Flashpoint TV Police Drama. Which Google Play Region? - General Questions and Answers

Just wondering which country actually has the ability to buy all 5 seasons of the Police Television Drama "Flashpoint"
It's unavailable for me in Canada. And I'm currently in the United States and still have no luck...
Why is it so hard to get a show that's based in Toronto. Filmed in Toronto about Toronto's ETF (Emergency Task Force) for me a Torontonian?
If anybody could let me know who has the rights to this show.
Or which region / country has the ability to purchase the complete series on Google Play I'd be so grateful

iTunes Legal MP3 Downloads

I live in Hong Kong. For several happy months, I was able to use the iTunes UK music store and satisfy my (slightly strange) musical tastes. I was able to do that by registering with a UK credit card and my Hong Kong address, but with the postcode of my mother's house in the UK.
Now they seem to have rumbled this and I have been locked out. iTunes music store have boycotted Hong Kong customers, and their Hong Kong site only offers iPhone apps; but not music downloads.
Can anyone suggest how to persuade iTunes to allow downloads to people with a credit card address in Hong Kong?
many people sell giftcards online you can use those to pay with instead of a creditcard
lol i know this is general G&A, but itunes questions..........jeez lol
There are loads of apple forums

[Q] Billing countries

Anybody know if it's possible to add billing countries that aren't listed on the phone?
I recently purchased a pre from the UK, but I live in Australia. The pre was officially available in Australia, so I didn't think I would have any problems with it, but I can't purchase apps because Australia isn't listed as a billing coutry!
The countries in my list are: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Netherlands.
Alternatively, are there any unofficial app stores for WebOS?
Or would flashing an Australian ROM work?

It is not possible to add billing countries.
No webOS phone has ever been officially available in Australia. In fact, no webOS phone has ever been officially available in the Southern Hemisphere.
You have a device with UK app catalog access set in the device record on Palm's servers, and that can never be changed.
Preware is the alternative app catalog for webOS.
There is no such thing as an Australian ROM (there is no such thing as a ROM for webOS devices, it's flash memory not Read-Only Memory), and even if there was such a thing it wouldn't help you since the setting for which app catalog you are able to access is stored in the device record on Palm's servers.
The only way to purchase apps on a webOS phone in Australia is to have it first activated in another country (as you have done) and then use a credit card from a country in that area. For example, I live in Australia, buy webOS devices from the UK, ship them to the US for first activation, then ship them to Australia, and use a US debit card from www.simon.com to buy apps.
Yes, it is that hard, and yes that is the only way to do it.

Thanks for the info rwhitby.
You're right, I was mistaken about the pre being available in Australia. It's advertised on http://www.palm.com/au/ but can't actually be purchased.
One more question, why don't I have the US in my billing country list? I would much rather pay in USD than EUR or GBP, it's almost 25% cheaper (with current currency rates).

Your device record on the Palm servers is set to the UK App Catalog.
That device (or more precisely, that comms board in that device) can never purchase from the US App Catalog.
The set of billing countries cannot be changed once the device has been activated once.

Thanks again Rod.

Rod, first, great to see you and WebOS on XDA, which I've been part of for years. Question - do you know of anybody successfully claiming a new Pre2 through warranty (since HP never said that if you activate in the wrong country or wrong operator, you're f'ed where apps are concerned) in order to re-activate it with another SIM? I bought my Pre2 from the HP UK site via mail order to Sweden as soon as it appeared a couple of months ago, but of course, I never figured out that I should have activated it using a UK SIM card... I know you're getting these questions a lot so maybe you've heard of some success stories in that respect? It would perhaps also be a signal to HP if people started claiming returns based on the (un)availability of apps when not in an official country...
In my case, HP's UK store "knew" I was ordering TO Sweden, and still, no disclaimers or anything like that. It could be either a warranty case, or a consumer rights case.

Yes, we have heard of people having success with such claims.

Well, I am really sad to report that I failed (at least via mail) to get Palm UK to replace my phone on the grounds that I can't buy apps without activating it as above. Here's the response from Palm:
Unfortunately, in order to be able to purchase applications from the App Catalog, the phone would have had to be activated in a country in which the Web OS platform had been officially released (Spain, Ireland, France, UK, and Germany). On the other hand, we are not able to offer you a replacement Pre 2 for you to activate it in UK, to enable the payable applications to appear on the App Catalog.
Currently, there are no plans to include Sweden as a supported country for the applications availability.
Please remember that the e-mail support has been discontinued; we suggest that you call our technical support department to: 08 519 92029 (Sweden), or contact us via chat on: www.palm.com/chat
We apologize for these inconveniences.

The really sad thing is the statement that they "don't plan to include Sweden". They didn't say "right now", just that they don't. I am assuming that this goes for other countries not on the list as well... I wonder if anybody has any other information to contradict?
I just ordered my Pre2 from their UK site and they sent me an email telling me that in my country I wouldn't have access to the App Store. They asked me if I'd like to cancel my order. That was nice of them (I didn't cancel because I already knew it).
However, it really sucks that they don't plan to change something with this App store thing. It's like they don't want money from their customers.

Do you move around a lot?

I have a very frustrating problem I'm hoping some of you guys can help with: I work and move around in various countries. For example, my 'home' is in Canada, but I currently live and work in the UK. I also lived and worked in the US for a few years, recently.
What I discovered was that the game Dead Space, which I bought from EA on the Play Store last year during one of the sales, will not install outside of the US. Obviously, this is a problem because I no longer live in the US. I've emailed EA support multiple times but have received no response. I looked at the terms here, but I could not find any part that explicitly warns that this game will not install outside of the US.
For the most part, I accepted this fact because it was an isolated event. But now there is a sale on GTA 3 and Max Payne by Rockstar Games.
I'm currently visiting family in Canada and I'd like to purchase these games. However, I'm paranoid (and I think, rightfully) that if I purchase these games in Canada, I won't be able to play them once i return home in the UK.
Can someone advise? Those of you who have moved from country to country...what do you do with region restrictions? Perhaps we can also discuss this issue in general.

[Q] Movie Showtimes API

Hi,
I am trying to make a movie app which requires me making use of movie showtimes in theatres around my country (India). I know for a fact that such apis exist for US and Canada, but I am yet to come across one which works for India. The only solution I have is crawling the websites of ticket booking sites every friday at midnight, but I'm afraid that might fall within the gray area between legal and illegal bordering on illegal as I plan on making it adsponsored.
So anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!

Nexus 5 replacement / Play Store

Hi,
My Nexus 5 was purchased from the U.S. Play store, paid for with a U.S. card and delivered to a U.S. address. (my American colleague helped me out with all this!). My Google account was set up in the UK, although I am now living in West Africa, in Ghana to be precise
Google have kindly agreed to replace my handset, which I've managed to get back to the States. They can send me a time-sensitive URL to sort out the replacement process which basically involves entering U.S. card details for payment although no funds are actually removed from the card itself.
The problem is I need to access the U.S. Play store on my notebook so I can properly use the link (which is somehow linked to the U.S. store) but even using a VPN and selecting a U.S. city, I'm not managing to get into the U.S. Play store and see USD prices, still seeing UK
Does anyone have an idea how I can get into the U.S. play store while still based here in Ghana? If you've done something similar before, I would really appreciate some detailed instructions
Thanks!
