I understand why this may upset you, he/she could have used better words to make this thread.
I do think it is a valid thread if people were to make a rundown of features and bugs offered by the kernels. We also compare different Roms and their features.
Which brings me to another issue, we have 3 custom kernels not 2...

I expected that you tested the kernels and posted some results. But boy was I wrong...
You know, there's nothing wrong with discussing different developers work, respectfully, and talking about pros and cons, outside of development threads of course, but ranking and rating them is a bit much.
Openly rating developers work is pretty disrespectful to the hard working members who actually contribute work to this site, so others can make their phones kewl. This site was created for developers and it isn't Amazon, so please keep ratings to selling and consumer report sites. Developers contribute here for fun and for free, and don't need their work rated by anyone here. Flash things and see what YOU like, it's the least you can do after getting all this cool free stuff on xda.

Hey there everyone.
I'm from the Vibrant section, and I have some questions for you Galaxy S 4G users, please do know I searched around, but I thought it'd be best to have all the information anyone had on this particular topic all in one thread, so if anyone feels this is useless, feel free to delete it, I'm just trying to gain some knowledge. My girlfriend has a GS4G, and although the devs have done a great job modding Samsung's ROMs.. they don't compare to AOSP ROMs in my opinion.
Now, for the questions.
1. Why is it we can't get a working kernel to boot for the GS4G? (Someone please do explain in detail.)
2. How far has someone gone/gotten? (I know krylon handed the work to someone, but I don't think they've reported back?)
And please, no stupid answers. This is pure discussion. If a kernel dev is what we need, I could try to find one that's willing to work with me, but we'd need testers and such.

We are already working on this now. Read through my kernel thread. I have specific milestones to getting cm7 on our phone. I will not skip steps to get to cm7 sooner, compromising stability and functionality. If you want to help, please pm me.

Alright, flame me.. because I'm definitely doing something wrong. I'm in no way demanding an ETA or even demanding anyone to start working on this, I simply wanted to group the information anyone knows so we could help each other.. you know.. kind of what a community does?
Guys, being cynical and trolling won't get us anywhere, and tell you the truth, it's childish and starting to bore.
The guy said he wanted a technical status summary and specifically said he wants to help.
In this case, i think we do need to maintain a thread of work chords and specify the barriers.
I thank every new dev with a will to help.
I think he deserves a different attitude than a noob, especially if we don't want to scare all devs from here.
That's my opinion anyway.

It's ok. I've responded to a few of these threads. It's surprising how many people don't click 'search' and search for 'cm7' or 'cyanogenmod'. I also don't expect people to read both rootz and xda. So if you read my op on the kernel thread, I have a "Plans" section (on both forums!).

Lets keep this thread going I am also wondering how come there is so little development here but what developers we have are dedicated!
We have great developers that work hard on cm. The sgs 4g is the problem of not having it, freaking sammy with their experiments. i really enjoy their masterpieces(devs). Op you just have to have some patience, cm will come to us i believe in our devs.

Then why didn't you group all the information that is already available in the 50 other threads about CM7 into this one?
if you really wanted to do that, you could have made your OP a summary with bullet points of the details of everything that was already discussed, and then updated it with new information that comes along.

Before flaming and insulting did you notice the date on the first post?
Personally I think the person that cast the raise dead spell should be getting beat with the flame bat.
I swear sometimes people are too eager to flame somebody. Its like they had a bad day come to xda to post behind a anonymous screen name and then walk away feeling better. But that is just me, Im sure my observation is wrong.

First of all, this has never been my primary device. I have never owned this device. I used to own the Samsung Vibrant, now I own a Nexus S. My girlfriend owned a Galaxy S 4G, and was using her phone to try to bring something new to you guys. (First ICS theme for this device ring a bell?) It's not my job to group 50 other threads about CM7 into this one. That's not what a community is. I am in no way a recognized developer, I know my stuff, but I have a long way to go. But it's people like you that make devs want to leave and stop posting their stuff. You swear people have time to do everything. And indeed that was my intention, but I wasn't going to pull useless information from other threads that members have posted, that are often inaccurate. This thread was mostly meant for devs, that could actually help out, and working together.
In other news, I finally have some time to mess around with stuff, might look into more themes or something, but I lack a device to work on, so I guess if some people would like to help (testing, etc.) I'd be glad to push things out from time to time.
I saw the new Galaxy Nexus on the Google Store; how does this compare to the Skyrocket? I've just been thinking what phone I will want to upgrade to next. Should I wait for the Galaxy S3? I'm bad at keeping up with phones and was just wondering what the natural next upgrade from a Skyrocket will be. I've found I don't particularly like the large size of the phone, it's low resolution, and especially the Samsung bloatware (I'm using a Custom ROM so I don't have to worry about it anymore but I still don't like it being on there to begin with).
Perhaps you could join this conversation in one of the 2-3 already existing threads, instead of everyone making new ones every 10 minutes.

As a new user the best advice I can give u is to search before posting anything new in a thread, whether it be for discussions purposes, or posing a question. Searching first is rule 1 of xda, which u agreed to when u signed up

They are not based on aosp, they are based off the sdk but with a few fixes from aosp

This is NOT a valid question. It requires a ridiculous level of obliviousness to think that you'd be the only person to think that porting AOSP JB would be a good idea. Of course people are working on it. Jeez, it's like people are getting less intelligent with each passing day.

I think that it would be cool if we had a poll thread with every rom listed so we can have an idea of the most popular Roms. I know when I am new to a phone I want to know the top rated roms to save time flashing. What do you guys think? Just a poll with every Rom and just let people vote on their favorites.

adding a poll of all active roms would help bring light to some under rated roms as long as it wasn't perceived as a best rom poll which would be very difficult as it most likely would turn into one.
It's against the rules, and there are good reasons why that is the case.
Such threads often lead to debates about "best roms," which creates unnecessary drama.
They also annoy the devs, and can lead to hurt feelings.
The devs almost unanimously do not like them, and if you haven't gathered from the name of this site, this is a developer forum.
This thread will be locked like the 500 others like it before this.

Joshua I dint think you're getting the main reason of the rule..it all kinda comes down to common courtesy..the devs aren't paid to dev nor do they have to share their work with us... You as the user can at the least say thanks to them..best Rom or most popular threads has a chance of putting certain rom devs down...each rom is great I've tried almost every one in this forum

This question is kind of disrespectful for the devs. Basically, to each his own. Read the thread of every ROM you are interested in and see what people who use it say. Then try for yourself and decide.

As a up and coming dev I have to agree with @logswithmoss .....
The reason is that when there are options and you pick our rom then it shows us that you like what we have done to it .....
But the OP did not even included our rom base on omni , zombi-pop ...

When I see a vote box, I just have to vote. Not sure why. lol
No disrespect to any of the devs! You all do an awesome job! We appreciate your hard work. I think logswithmoss is right. It could be used as a gauge as to what people (overall) like in their ROM but that doesn't mean other don't like the ones that were not voted highly.
To me, any Dev that spends their own time to contribute to the ROM for the masses, is a good dev!
