My view 10 took quite a tumble today and now the finger print sensor and screen rotation don't work. I tried to add a fingerprint to see if it works, and it recognizes i touch the sensor the first time but thats it, every time i try to add a finger print i get one attempt but never another, and it never works period to unlock my screen or unlock apps like lastpass. Opened it back up after replacing the screen (I know, I'm really hard on phones) and looked everything over really well, no defects noted. The rest of the daughter board works and I reseated the finger print sensor and daughter board connections, as well as the main board connections, and checked all the pressure pins and grounds but still no luck. And I've done a factory reset to verify its not something funky going on. However the sensor itself and the cable and connections are all flawless. Any suggestions on what I should check/replace?
I'd really appreciate any ideas!

First time poster, though been a regular lurker.
It seems I have a slightly dodgy proximity sensor. Have checked with one of the proximity sensor apps and while the sensor detects if I have my hand over it, it is very unreliable when I take my hand off. It can take from anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds or sometimes never.
While ive been through other threads where people have a completely failed sensor, does anyone have this intermittent problem. Also is this a hardware or software issue.
Im currently htc-dev unlocked running Pacman v15.0.
Out there is a tool for recalibrating the sensor, but you would need to be S-OFF I think and it's done with a service tool (a special PG88DIAG.nbh)
Let me know if you are willing to try it, but it is VERY dangerous if you do the wrong things.
I had the exact problem from the very beginning. Got a phone and the very next day had a screen protector applied. For a few days proximity sensor created problems. The screen would go black when the call started, but until the call did not end, there was no way to bring the screen back. So, I used an app just like yourself to check and saw the same thing happening. Ultimately read extensively and realised it was due to screen protector. Took a scissor and cut off the protector above the sensor. A few months later when I had a new protector (of a different company) applied the same problem reappeared, so I had to cut it off from the top. Except that this time around I was sort of expecting it. I hope this help! :fingers-crossed:
I had the same problem and it continued no matter whether i remove the protector or cut the portion....im unable to most awesome ROM's.......only n sense 4.0 im able to re turn on the screen using power button.if there a way to completely disable this turn off during calls irrespective of the ROM its highly appreciated......
Looking forward for the solution

An update to my situation.. I ordered a new proximity sensor on e-bay and have replaced the same on my phone now. While I was at it, I cleaned up the window as it was pretty grimy and could have been the source of trouble. Also cleaned up the contacts with Isopropyl alcohol. End result.. Im still having the same problem!!
Im pretty sure now that its not a hardware problem and has to do with the calibration. What I have noticed that the sensor works fine in bright sunlight but not when there is less light around. Also am not using a screen guard!
Would it be possible to guide me to the right tools to recalibrate please?
Sorry, I haven't done this myself, but I'll search a bit how it's done by HTC.
They are using a special holding station where the devices are calibrated.
I got my phone yesterday and I set up the fingerprint sensor. I read in the reviews that it is extremely accurate and good, however I don't find this to be the case. After I unlock my phone it will take at least 2-3 tries before I manage to unlock it. Do you think I should try for a new phone, or it isn't something abnormal?
I have noticed that if I press the power button, and then put my finger on the sensor I don't always get a match. When I wake with the home button and leave my finger there I get it right 99% of the time. Trying to understand if or why my positioning would change/affect the sensor.
No problems here try re-register your fingers make sure it's oil free, wash hands and dry clean then register...
I'm having the same experience as the OP. Very inaccurate for me
Very accurate for me. I registered my thumb presses sideways cause that's the angle my thumb actually hits the button.
Yeah I registered sideways. Even registered a couple of different times but still same issue
hey guys, this is my first day here lol
so I wanna ask something regarding the touchscreen in my phone because I can't find any solutions anywhere on the net
I just replaced my touchscreen yesterday, it looks good, and it feels good
but then I realised something when I type
the new touchscreen isn't very responsive when I type/tap fast
then i tried something called Yet Another MultiTouch Test
turns out, everytime I tap fast on 2 different points, the touchscreen detects it as a swipe between those 2 points
so it doesn't register as taps, but a swipe
I already tried repairing through PC Companion, glove mode is off (but the weird thing is I can even touch the screen through 10 pieces of paper, and when I turn it on, there's no difference. hypersensitive?), touch & hold delay doesn't have anything to do with it (neither is pointer speed), and tap2wake is off
is this a software problem? or is there any chance that the service guy didn't install the screen properly? or is it just a defective screen?
Hey,
I replaced my Frame and Display with one from Aliexpress.
The LCD Quality is great, but I have similar touchscreen issues.
Mine has normal responsiveness, but has hickups while typing from time to time. It will swipe between two letters for example.
Rarely it also has ghost touches.
My theory is: something is either not grounded properly or shorted to ground by the flex cable, or it might have something to do with the frame beeing just ever so slightly bent and the touchscreen is under tension somehow.
Haven't had the time to rip the screen of the frame and re-adhere it, but that's what I'll try next.
Regarding the paper: My primary phone (Redmi Note 3 Pro) works through 8, so that's pretty normal.
Does enabling glove mode do anything for you? Does double tap to wake work?
For me, both of those don't work.

regarding tap2wake, it works
but turning glove mode on/off doesn't seem to make any difference, the weird thing is the phone still works with gloves even though glove mode is off, so turning on tap2wake is a bad idea because it detects touches through my pockets
and yeah, my lcd quality is great too, heck I gotta admit I like this more than the original
so I went back to the guy that replaced the screen, asked him to see what's wrong with it and maybe rip the screen and re-adhere it like you said, but he keeps insisting that "it's normal because there is no way it can match the quality of the original screen"
so yeah, there're no other way than to disassemble it by myself or go somewhere else and risk it getting worse than before
Got my U12+ Christmas gift this year -- fingerprint sensor doesn't work and the setting no longer exists either! I did a full factory reset and still got nothing. Is this just a me issue with a potential hardware failure, or has anyone else experienced this problem?
Not that anyone cares because it seems I'm the only one having this issue, I'm sending the phone into HTC for potential repair. Not holding my breath, but maybe I'll be surprised and they'll cover it under warranty. Time will tell....
HTC U12 plus
same here, today is 28/01/2020 and my fingerprint sensor disabled, i've tried eeeeverything, but nothing helps.
so do not recommend for me, washing sensor (any), reset, restart, wipe data, safe mode.

Wasn't going to reply to my own thread, but will now that someone else has this issue....
I sent the phone in for repair and they claim it was due to water damage and therefore not covered under warranty. Not much I can argue since if the sticker is colored it won't matter that it's never been submerged in water before.
It's been "in repair" status since Jan 15th and they said it can take up to 30 days before it's fixed and returned.
Thankfully I kept my old phone so I have something to use while this process plays out.
You're not the only one with that problem.
I'm experiencing same problem some a few days.
Fingerprint app simply won't open.
Will probably try factory reset before sending it to repair.
Since yesterday I have the same problem.
It looks like the fingerprint app crashes by opening.
I too have had the same problem since yesterday. Nobody solved?
Resolved. The connector had come off. It was enough to open the back and reconnect it.

I dropped my phone about 30cm height on a carpet, and the sensor stopped working. I certainly hope your solution works for me too...was it the little cable that connects the sensor to the phone motherboard? Hate opening these phones because I always manage to damage the case when I pry it open

RESOLVED: There, I fixed it! So for anyone with this issue, its a pretty ****ty design from HTC...the port that connects the finger print sensor to the mainboard pops off rather easy. If you drop your phone on its back the port pops out. I bought one of those bathroom hanger suction thingies from a cheap plastic store and used it to pull the back panel away so I could fit a guitar pick. Works like a charm. Remember to take out the sim tray, and be very careful not to crack the back cover. Start from the bottom (just above the charging port) lifting the panel with the suction tool only slightly and go around in a circle. Don't push your prying tool in further than 20mm or you might damage the finger sensor cable. Patience is key. Thanks to C0rs41r above for the info. All the best.
Me too ?i have this problem, i don't know why the printerfinger scanner doesn't work , when i go to settings > security, i cannot see the option . What should i do?
Thanks This worked for me. It was very easy to fix. There is a single snap connector. I didn't even need to remove the entire back piece. I was able to slide a pry tool along the top, back left and bottom and open it like a book. The ribbon likes to sit on the back. Don't be fooled, its not directly attached. Just move it into place and press down. You will feel it pop into place. Turn on the phone and you should be able to open the Fingerprint app again.
Meus amigos, estou com o mesmo problema no meu HTC U12 +, a impressão digital não funciona, a configuração não está disponível, como conseguiram resolver?
Alternative solution identified after 2 years!
In short, I registered my fingerprint through Google Pay.
Background: The fingerprint setting is missing from general menu but I realise I could wake my phone by touching the fingerprint sensor, so I believe it's software issue rather than hardware issue.
I had the issue for around 2 years now and none of the suggested fix worked (reset, remove security lock, resitting fingerprint sensor).
Before this, whenever I try to get back the fingerprint setting by removing security lock, I ignored the prompt from Google Pay mentioning that it needs to have security lock in place to work. But today I went into the reminder, and it brought me to page where I can setup the security lock and fingerprint, YES! FINGERPRINT!
So I managed to add 5 fingerprints (same amount as stock setting) and unlock my phone successfully. However the fingerprint setting is still missing from the general menu, and I couldn't found a way to get into the screen lock setting within Google Pay either. Whenever I need to reset my fingerprint data, I will need to remove security lock from general menu, and go into Google Pay so that it will prompt me about the security requirement, then I can re-add my fingerprint through it.
Hi,
My customer brought to me a Samsung A40 after water damage. After cleaning up and replacing the screen to the original one everything looked great until the first call. It appeared that both the light sensor and the proximity one are not even visible under *#0*# menu. I can easily bypass that by switching the power off button to end the call but since then the smartphone also doesn't turn off the screen :/
I've set to turn off the screen after 15s, udpated the software, performed wipe cache and full factory reset. None of them had worked. Screen if not manually locked remains ON all the time. Can it be connected somehow to the damaged sensors? During the call screen is still blinking.
I would be gratefull for any tip in this case.
I can even root the device to just get rid of that "not turning off of the screen". Is there some app maybe to force screen lock after some time of not active?
BR
Check for moisture and/or corrosion on the ribbon cable connectors.
Water damage is unpredictable especially if the battery is not pull immediately.
The best thing to do is flush liberally with anhydrous isopropyl alcohol* and completely dry.
Salt water is always lethal... eventually.
*isopropyl or any solvent will poison LCDs, never use it near them. Use best judgment otherwise.

Thanks for the reply. I've already put the phone apart and cleaned every single pcb, connectors, cables with isopropyl in ultrasonic wash and manually with toothbrush. Left it to complete dry for about 48 hours and put it back together. Before that the phone was completely dead. Now everything is working except those 2 sensors. I don't have any datasheet to this mainboard so i don't even know what else can I measure.
Whole thing happened like 2 months ago and the customer just tried to manually lock the screen but its not always possible and he noticed that his battery is drawing pretty fast due to screen on. On the current stage I'm just looking for some workaround to force the screen sleep and remains until power button pressed.
What is funny. The screen goes to sleep after 15s when connected to charger and locks after 1 minute just like I've set in the settings...
When it is inpluged from charger screen remains awake all the time :/ Maybe that's some clue for anyone?
More tests: light sensor seems to be working correctly. It adjust brightness when covered and uncovered despite the fact that it is not visible under "sensors" in "*#0*#" menu Proximity sensor still doesn't work. When calling someone screen remains black and just flashes from time to time...
But the main problem is still with those screen always awake. It is only going to sleep when connected to PC or charger :/ No moisture visible anywhere. I've found a post with the same problem but there was visible that phone was detecting periodically USB connection when it was unplugged. In my case Samsung is not noticing anything on tray etc. It just remains awake until pressed power button or connected to charger
I will try to replace USB charging PCB and give You the feedback
Maybe contacts on a BGA chipset corroded and shorted out a logic circuit pathway.
If it's under a chipset... game over, however it may on be an accessible area. Optical aid and good light.
It's also possible the water shorted out something enough to damage a chipset.
Replacing the USB PCB did the job. Everything works correctly, screen is going to sleep. Moreover the proximity sensor has started to work correctly
We may close this topic.
For the record, you can use *#77692# for the light sensor and proximity sensor if they don't show up in *#0*#.
