Hi I am trying to retrieve a photo that has been saved as a wallpaper on my gfs Samsung Galaxy gt 15500.
When the photo was taken it was saved to the sd card but as some stage the sd card got corrupted and as far as I know she got rid of it.
She needs a new phone but refuses to do so without the picture (its very personal and cannot be recreated). Is there anyway of getting it?. I have rooted the phone and when into data via AstroFileManager but I cant find it anywhere.
I have also tried Wallpaper Set & Save but it is not compatible with 2.2.
Any help is appreciated as my life wont be worth living if I cant get the pic
Thanks
I have an idea
Use go launcher, hide the dock, hide all icons, hide the status bar and then take a screenshot!!!!

Thank you so much QuantumFoam.
Ill try it out later on her phone. If all goes well it means I have that important picture for her and I get a new phone to play around with.
I rooted it, updated the firmware and flashed a new kernel already and the thing is flying........let the flashing of the rom commence!!!

Big thumbs down on that.
Downloaded and installed go launcher ex. It immediately changed the background to some stock picture of the sky.
I changed back to my original launcher and the picture that I was trying to save is gone. This is not good.
The photo still remains as a contact pic, but yet again I cannot find anywhere its saved. Its as if its in a cache somewhere.
Does anybody have any ideas? (I didnt want to get into detail but the picture is of somebody who passed away and is very important to my gf)
You didn't mention that it's as a contact pic
There's a way to see your contacts on Google
Open Google on your computer, go to the more tab and click Even more. There should be contacts there
Hi,
I've got an overlay on the homescreen that I can't account for. Can somebody take a look at this picture and tell me what I'm seeing, and more importantly, tell me how to make it go away?

That looks like it is stuck in "Factory Mode" - Search Q&A section for "Factory Mode".
Can you let us know what you did/flashed so we can possibly grow a knowledge base.

Is it actually on your home screen or just the s suggest widget? Try just long press widget and trash it then open it again?
Also were you updating at the time, might have something to do with it

I wish I could tell you what was done to it, but I believe it arrived to us this way. It was sent to our office for use with promotional materials. i searched through and found the Factory Mode you referenced, that sounds right. I'll have to fight with it at home. No PC here to root it with.
Regarding the widget, the overlay is persistant across all homescreens.
Thanks for the help
So if anyone using Instagram and having issues with the picture after cropping and pre-posting where the entire image is black, I'd like to sincerely thank zephiK for pointing out the workaround!! The workaround is simple and as follows..
Open Instagram and click on your profile tab and hit the menu button, under camera turn off the bottom option of the two that says "high-quality image processing" try and sample a shot on Instagram and see if the pic appears to be normal.. Voila!!! Again thanks to zephiK for pointing this out to me and was good to hear I wasn't alone..
Anyone else still having issues after trying this quick and easy workaround please post back here and lets us know.
Thanks XDA!!
Go into instagram settings, toggle high quality image processing

I'm glad it's something stupid lol cuz other than that I have zero issues...

Which one is it on right now? If its unchecked, check it. If its checked, uncheck it.
I don't use Instagram, I do have the app and its checked and I can take a picture and it shows it just fine. I have read this problem in another thread and thats what they suggested and it worked.

Real quick question regarding at the moment all AOSP ROMs and Instagram.. Is anyone having an issue where when taking a pic the picture is captured ok, you can crop it and add effects but when going to actually post the picture where you add description and location the picture is just all black??
I use Instagram very very frequently for work and as well for my kids and family...
If anyone else experiencing the issue please post back and or if any work arounds available please give me a heads up...

After the May update, when I take a pic and open it directly from the bottom left, after it finishes getting processed, I have to go back to camera screen and open the pic again to see the final version. Normally after getting processed it was automatically showing the proceesed version. Is this happening to anyone else ? I tried clearing the data of camera and also gallery, still happens.
Nope, mine shows up as soon as I take it. What settings are you using on the camera app?

I'm talking about the special occasions where the pic is still getting rendered when you open it from the bottom left. If it gets rendered before you open it, it shows the final version yeah, but i'm not talking about that. Before the May update it was showing the final pic after the processing gets completed. Not using any special settings that impacts this.
I have no real delay between taking the picture and it shows in the little circle on the bottom left of the camera app. That is what you are talking about, correct.

Are you also on AVDA?
Just tried it in portrait mode. I took the picture and directly opened it. First it shows the clear background and after some milliseconds the background got blurred. So I would say I do not have that bug.
Which effect are you using, which device and camera sw and so on. Something must be different.

Portrait effect is different, i'm not talking about that. Portrait effect processing is also fine on mine. No, nothing is different and this problem exists on May update, confirmed on Reddit too. It happens on normal pics, not portraits. Also i'm not using any effects, I think you're not understanding the problem.

The problem is clear on my first post and title. Not any processing is missing. After you take a pic and immediately open it from bottom left, if it's still processing, it still shows the old pic after processing gets completed. You have to go back and open the pic again to see the final version.

The flow is most likely clear, but what kind of processing is missing?
I was able to see late portrait processing, but you mentioned it is not what you complain about.
Is e.g. HDR missing in the fast view?

I really don't know how clear I can make it anymore. Look, after you take a pic, it automatically processes the pic you know that right ? Sometimes that process takes long, and after taking the pic if you open it from the bottom left immediately, it's still getting processed and you can see a loading icon at the bottom. After it finishes it should normally show the final version, and it was doing that before the update. But now, after it processes, it still shows the unprocessed image and you have to go back and open the pic again to see the final version.

Therefore I was asking already which processing is missing in the first view. In other words, how can I see the bug you are describing. What is the visible difference between the picture you see when you open fast and when you open it again later?
Especially identifying the "sometimes long" would it make it much more easy to reproduce.
Because if I open the picture directly after having taken it, it looks the same like opened again later. (Except my portrait example.)

Bro. Nothing is missing. The picture should be different looking most of the time after processing gets completed. I can't say directly “this is missing”. That's not the problem. Yeah I also have AVDA, but people on Reddit already found out that it's happening because of the latest version of the Gallery app + if you're on May update. And it gets fixed if you uninstall the updates of Gallery.
Looking different = image processing missing. E.g. missing blue sky due to not done HDR processing?
A link to Reddit would help, because if I open the pictures directly they instantly look the way they should do (except portrait a.s.o.). But maybe the processing is too fast in my case.

Image processing is not missing. It's just not showing it after it gets completed (it shows if you go back and open the pic again). I think since you think you don't have any problems you can leave this thread, it already got polluted by various misunderstandings by you.
Please be so kind and share the link to the information on Reddit. Thank you.
Edit: Found it by myself

No further information, except that it is a Snapdragon and mine is an Exynos one.
(It is not worth nitpicking if image processing is (not) missing when it is not shown...)
