Where to find a pic that is saved as a wallpaper? - General Topics

Hi I am trying to retrieve a photo that has been saved as a wallpaper on my gfs Samsung Galaxy gt 15500.
When the photo was taken it was saved to the sd card but as some stage the sd card got corrupted and as far as I know she got rid of it.
She needs a new phone but refuses to do so without the picture (its very personal and cannot be recreated). Is there anyway of getting it?. I have rooted the phone and when into data via AstroFileManager but I cant find it anywhere.
I have also tried Wallpaper Set & Save but it is not compatible with 2.2.
Any help is appreciated as my life wont be worth living if I cant get the pic
Thanks

I have an idea
Use go launcher, hide the dock, hide all icons, hide the status bar and then take a screenshot!!!!

You're too kind

Thank you so much QuantumFoam.
Ill try it out later on her phone. If all goes well it means I have that important picture for her and I get a new phone to play around with.
I rooted it, updated the firmware and flashed a new kernel already and the thing is flying........let the flashing of the rom commence!!!

Big thumbs down on that.
Downloaded and installed go launcher ex. It immediately changed the background to some stock picture of the sky.
I changed back to my original launcher and the picture that I was trying to save is gone. This is not good.
The photo still remains as a contact pic, but yet again I cannot find anywhere its saved. Its as if its in a cache somewhere.
Does anybody have any ideas? (I didnt want to get into detail but the picture is of somebody who passed away and is very important to my gf)

You didn't mention that it's as a contact pic
There's a way to see your contacts on Google
Open Google on your computer, go to the more tab and click Even more. There should be contacts there

as long as you have the android sdk downloaded you can use the ddms.bat in the tools folder to take screen shots with out having to root your phone
Enable USB Debugging then need to open up the DDMS application from within the "tools" folder in the Android SDK's main folder. After DDMS launches, select your handset from the menu on the left (it should be the only device listed). You might see an error message, but the debug tool should be loaded. Then, click CTRL-S on your keyboard. This will bring up the "Device Screen Capture" interface. From here, a static image is captured from what is appearing on your handset. You can save the image (nicely defaulted as PNG) and then refresh to your heart's content to grab updated or different screenshots from your phone.
That's it!
oh yea i forgot about that
cant get the lockscreen clear on mine i have the full theme clear except for the lock..i even tried the lockscreen alone but nothing
you still didnt get it dammm
no i still dont get it lol i have tried alot of times i just got the full theme working but not the lockscreen which is weird :S is there any way to manually do it?

Change sense mail icon and have it display unread messages?

So im able to change the stock sense mail icon using desktop visualizer but then when i receive an email it does not display a 1 over the icon. I do not use email notifications as i get many emails through my exchange account throughout the day and dont need to be notified but i like having the unread number on my icon. Is there any way to have a custom icon and have it display then number of unread messages over top of it? Thanks!
Anybody....
sorry bro im pretty sure that it is possible but its going to take alot of time for one to find out how to do this and they require dev skills that i dont have im just a flasher/donator... not trying to be rude in anyway but i dont think someone will want to take the time to find out how to do this... who know someone might have already done this and shared it over the internet but you just need to look for it...

Unfortunately im in no way shape or form a developer. I have a good understanding of things but dont come up with my own mod's or tweaks. I would be more than willing to do this myself if i knew how.
i would be more than happy to assist you with that. give me the icon you would like me to replace the stock one with. and just so were clear, you are talking about the green bubble on the mail app right?

ok. do you want this as the app icon or as the bubble? just curious because that would cover most of the icon.
I would use the icon as a shortcut for the mail app. The unread count can be smaller if that is possible. I really appreciate this and will definitely donate when completed.

[MOD REQUEST] SecMMS.apk

Alright well sprints latest OTA has the SecMMS.apk that does not show single pictures as slideshows, but instead shows them normally. Well i tried pulling the apk and using it on the verizon s3 but it didn't work I put in system/app and alas nothing worked. So im requesting that somebody edit it/mod it/whatever needs to be done, to make it work on our S3's
I attached the zip file that has the SecMMS.apk in it as well as the odex file, i would like it to work on deodexed stock roms
and here's the framework-res.apk https://www.dropbox.com/s/t6et6bqelqj0ed8/framework-res.apk
Thanks in advance!
Bump, anything anybody?
For me it only shows as a slideshow if text is included. Otherwise it just pulls up as a normal pic. Are you sure the sprint mms app behaves differently?

I would assume you have to be rooted since it will most likely have to be pushed to your system apps, i tried pushing it there but it wouldn't work.
As far as the one click root, if you aren't flashing any kind of system img then you should keep your data, but i always assume that ill be losing my data when rooting.

Interestingly I can only save pics that are part of the slideshow presentation by pausing then hitting menu > save attachment. On the regular image view the only option is Set picture as. However, from the message list view I can long press both types (those with text and without) and the option to save attachment is there.

Thats good to know, i really wanna use the touchwiz messaging but i can't stand that slideshow view. It just looks so odd, not sure why the hell samsung thought it was smart to use in the first place. That's why im hoping this can modded to work for us
And @Mods if you happen to see this can you move this thread to the theme/app section so it gets more attention. Thank you

You will also need at least framework-res.apk from the most recent Sprint stock image in order to properly decompile this apk.

EASYMODE

Yet another thing VZW decided we did not need,
this will give you the option for EasyMode under the settings/ Personalize / Home Screen.
once on your new homescreen you can swipe left or right, left for quick contacts, and right to add quick apps.
just flash in recovery and enjoy
EasyMode.zip - 9.97 MB

No but it did remove the icon from the dock and I had to put it back from the app drawer. It also seemed to disable the green notification on the messaging icon when a message arrives . I loaded it just to see what it was like, won't be going back on after next flash.

Default Gallery App Change

Hi
Seems like Google Photo's is hard coded to be the default picture viewer.
If you install something else you are not prompted to choose the new default as you would expect.
Disabling google photo's and trying to force new default doesn't work either.
Perhaps with future ROM?
Anything anyone achieved without root etc. till now? Thanks.
Reorienting back and recent keys seems like a no go either, what do people do to get round that?
Thanks for any tips already.

Tryna different camera. Counterintuitive? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But you will get the option that you want.
But this has ALWAYS been the case with HTC. I have installed the HTC camera app on other phones, and it was imperative to have the HTC Gallery app to be able to review the photos after they are taken. I know that it's a different gallery app that we are taking about, but I think have the Camera App is the real issue here. The app defines the default photos app.
I may be wrong, but that's something that I discovered a while back.

You could use a custom rom like leedroid, there you can define your favorite app for pictures and it will launch from the camera.
And you can use custom roms without root.

Sure I know about that, it was just a hint to the right direction.
There are some very good guides for it.
What if you sideload the old Gallery app?

install htc album from apk mirror, then disable the google photos app. It should default to htc album then.
It should but it doesn't, and I don't know why... When I disable google photos and install htc gallery nothing hapens when I try to open photos from camera.
Any fix for this yet?
Would love to see a fix too!
I got around all the little issues with Photos by disabling that app.
Then got "QuickPic" from Google Play and made it Gallery app in it's settings.
Aggravation instantly gone. Works fine without giving an argument about everything.

on our rom you can pick any gallery app as preview album in the camera app.
I've tried many apps as I've never really used Google photos before and had no luck with any. But I've started to like it now. Especially since they added opening straight to albums in the settings.
