Out of curiosity, I've been using a flashlight to look into my Huawei's P20 camera just to find out if the camera has OIS ( see this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20/help/main-camera-ois-optical-image-t3794794 )
However, I can see some dust scattered around, and a smudge ( like putting your finger on a lens kind of smudge ) in the middle of the lens. This is unacceptable, given the price tag and the "flagship" status of the phone.
The phone is one month, one month and a half old. I'll contact Huawei and ask for a replacement, since it's kind of rubbish to have an almost new phone opened up and repaired.
You can see the issue in the pictures below:

I'll try to use a magnifier glass when I get back home.
Same/Similar problem
Hey there.
I have same Huawei P20 less than half years old and the rear bottom camera (under the actual glass/lens) dirty, similar like yours on the pictures but different is mine looks like when you have your phone in your pocket for while and get some dirt so not just dots. Can't imagine how is this possible. I cleaning my phone quiet often and the camera got dirty like this. The phone never been dropped or something like that and always kept in chase... I bought mine from carphonewarehouse so I went back and they said they can take it apart and clean it then put it back together under warranty but nothing really else but I don't want a opened up phone...
Did you contact with Huawei? What they said if yes? Or any news/ update since your post?
Thanks.
Same situation here with my P20. Dust started showing at the first 2 weeks of use. Now, after 2 months it's pretty bad. Also there are scratches on my camera glass. I can't believe that they didn't use sapphire glass for the cameras.

does this actually create issues in photos taken?
Only with the sun was in front of the camera.
Fixed the issue by buying a P20 PRO
It don't solve the problem...

It don't solve the problem... I have a P20 pro for a month already, I got at first the same issue like you but on the front camera, and second, it happened today, a huge black mark on pictures appeared, after check it, it come from the middle rear camera. No water, not dust on this one, but the lens is broken inside...! 600 $ for nothing!

So, I got The camera lens on my s6 fixed at a local repair. I made That decison because every charged me like 250 euro(286 dollars) for repair. So, I got it fixed for 50 euro(Huge drop in price, I know). After I got it fixed, my photos turned out to be Blurry. When I broke The camera lens I also noticed That The camera had also got scratched, but I still could got some decent shots, without The cameralens.
I also noticed That The new camera lens got a hq logo in left upper corner. I inmediately thought...this is not an original Samsung part. But my question is: does The scratched camera create Blurry pictures or is because The cameralens isnt a original Samsung part?
I also have some example pictures shot with The new cameralens. I also shot some.with my girlfriends s6.

What is the difference between the scratched "cameralens" and "camera"?
You mean the actual lens is scratched and also the big rounded square protective glass?
Well, in case a not quality replacement part was used, it can have an effect on the overall picture quality.

can you make a macro pic with flash? and pics on street to see more pics please?¿ clean your lens too
sorry for my poor english ( i am spanish ):good:
Sometimes in low indoor lighting I noticed some dark blobs that appear on the camera. They look like rather large particles scattered throughout the frame. I was suspecting maybe dust in the lens but I've seen a similar thing with my friend's Nexus 4 when is directly cast in sunlight - similar to when you look under a microscope and your hair eyelashes are in the way. Another thing I suspect it could be is some interference from the shiny black plastic ring within the camera lens (not the silver ring outside), as it appears to be made of a rough plastic-like material.
Sample (there are many more depending what angle the light is shining): https://www.dropbox.com/s/zm8h9jp3jhdy726/DSC_0476.JPG?dl=0
Has anyone experienced this as well?
Note that the lens/camera module that was replaced by Sony in Taiwan due to the left blur problem. They assured me that the phone was still waterproof. Unfortunately I am no longer in Taiwan so I can't get it repaired. In most situations the blobs are not visible but I do notice them when I'm filming in my room and the camera appears to be trying to pick up more light.
hmm, now that i look at my lens, i it appears there is a spot on the actual camera lens behind the main lens cover. Either dust got in during the lens replacement process, or it somehow got in later. So much for IP68 =/
Can you send it back and get a new device?

Nope, I bought it in Taiwan, and am studying overseas now. Perhaps next time I go to Taiwan I will turn it in. It's not a huge problem as none of my outdoor photos seem to have this problem - I only noticed it in videos I filmed in my room indoors with a certain lighting or flare (if you cover the light a bit it's gone, like you have a lens hood). It's not as obvious as previous reports of dust in the Xperia Z lens etc.
I looked into it with a magnifying glass and it does seem like there is at least one speck behind the lens cover.
Maybe there was some dust or paper in my pocket that somehow got in, but I had the phone in a case, and there's a rear protector film I applied that goes around the lens
Hi Guys,
The pictures and videos from the rear camera of my 6045K were getting increasingly muddy and lacking in contrast This is a picture taken with the rear camera and this is the same scene taken with the front camera. This is just another example of how bad things got at some point. It turns out there is some kind of dust accumulated on the inside of the protective glass in front of the lens - it may be seen against bright light falling on the lens at certain angle. Since there is no way to open the rear of thee phone and clean I had it clean by a service but it seems that dust is starting to accumulate once again - just a few days after it has been cleaned up. Few days is also how long it took after dust to appear when I first purchased the phone.
My question is - is it just bad design (have you noticed anything like it on your phones) or just a single case and a bad luck? Also, do you know how difficult it is to open the back cover as I am not willing to send my phone to a service for a week every few weeks.
Thank you,
Peter
So I got my s7 and after a week I try to take a picture today but see a lil black spot on the back camera.. Camera glass is clean without any scratches.. Very weird.. It stays in the pictures and video after taken as well.. Anybody with the same issue or a fix?

Looks like the lens has some dust on it, did you buy it from a retailer new or via eBay or Craigslist

From a friend
So it turns out I did some research and it seems it was some dust trapped on the lens cover inside.. Some how it got in with a waterproofed cased phone.. But the fix was actually tapping the phone on a hard surface a few times and the spot vanished.. Weird but it solved the problem.. Make sure u don't damage your phone tapping it and do it with a hard case at your own risk

Got absolutely the same spot in my daughter's phone. A technician proposed to replace the camera. After I've read above, maybe a cleaning only will work. We'll do it this week.
Ive got the same problem but about 5 specs. I've only had the phone for about 4 months. Ive replaced the rear camera lens glass but thats not got rid of it. The next step is to replace the camera module (£15 on ebay). But I'm worried i'll break the rear cover leading to more expense. It's a shame because its a good phone. None of my smart phones have lasted a year! Something always breaks. I had more joy with a g4 plus camera until my son threw it in the bath. I think Im going to sell this pbyone to someone more confident with repair and buy a Xiaomi from China.

I should add that this is shocking quality. A supposedly water proof phone that on launch cost over £500 with the camera as a main selling point. A quick google search will tell you that this issue frequently occurs on s5, s6, s7 etc. I think Samsung are more happy to sell new phones than make phones that last longer than the launch of the next model.

If you can't keep a phone without breaking it, the problem is on your end.
Well this s7 has been looked after. Its had a couple or waist height drops but it has a griffin case.
Thanks a lot....

Thanks a lot for the suggestion..i heard about it in some other blog and dint believe it until i saw it here on xda.... Surprisingly this happened with note 8.... And still surprising is the same solution..... Thanks again...
Tapping didn't work for me. I bought a new camera module off of AliExpress for $5. Paid a phone shop $5 to get the back off. Replaced the lens myself. The camera is perfect now. You must make sure the lens is exactly the same down to the colour of the flex and writing on it. The first two I got failed because they were different versions. Some ebay sellers use the wrong photo in their listings.
I had the same problem. Solved it perfectly by holding the phone 60 degrees on a flat surface with a little cloth on it and letting the phone face down drop on the surface. I dropped it face down because my front camera was affected. I had a screen protector and a case + cloth on the table so no damage what so ever. Just drop it. The dust will somehow move. I think this solution is better than digging into the lens and removing it. If the problem persists than take it to a service.
I tried that first and it didn't work. It cost me 10 bucks to replace the lens. Shops have a hot plate so they can remove the back cover easily. With the new lens my camera has far superior image quality. I think it was more than just a bit of dust that was wrong with it. The lens was damaged. Another issue can be the inside of the glass on the back cover gets dirty. Just replacing or cleaning that when the back cover is off made my pictures clearer and stopped the camera over exposing every shot.
Buddy, is it tape it on the camera phone or the whole phone?
Do you mean tap? You could try trapping or shaking the phone to move dust to the side but that didn't work for me. I replaced the camera lens and you should clean the inside of the protective glass on the back cover too.
Dopped my Ultra yesterday which has a case fitted but it fell on a stone which penetrated the 5x zoom glass (pic attached). A bit gutted as I've only had the phone a few weeks.
Just wondering if you think it can be repaired by a local phone repairer?
As this is a China only phone, do you think that they will be able to get the parts needed for a repair?
Thanks in advance
Surprisingly it can still take images using the 5x lens even though it looks like below. I assume there is some loss of clarity as I took this images right after the accident
Smashed my camera too!
As it's the transparent glass back, there is only one facility that can repair it. Luckily I'm in China so I can send it back to Xiaomi. If you are outside China you might be SOL.
That glass broke way to easily!
You can find the camera module here. But not sure about the back glass. You can mail them and ask. Maybe they can help.
https://www.vopmart.com/xiaomi-mi-10-ultra-replacement-parts.html
I found a site called, "cellspare". They have the whole rear glass. However, they're $100. As far as repair goes, the Mi 10 Ultra is no different than a Samsung to replace the rear glass.
Heat it up, make a small gap, and separate the adhesive. Any competent tech should be able to do it. It might even be something you could do on your own.
