Hi, I left Canada for good without paying off my phone bill and am hoping to unlock my S7 Edge.
I can't really call Telus to ask them to do this for obvious reasons.
Tenk.

Well, they could blacklist your emei number and when that happens, your phone will stop working I believe, maybe I'm wrong

Maybe you got away with it, is up to them, enjoy the phone while is working, they could block it at any time, or maybe they do not really care, good luck

It's not blacklisted, so far so good.
Carriers don't tend to share a block list, if it gets IMEI blocked by a Canadian telco it'll probably only affect Canadian networks. That's why a lot of phones get sold for cheap on eBay, the person broke the contract, it got blocked in their country but they sell it to another country.

I am going to take your advice and stay away from this phone then as I need it to work with ATT here and other gsm networks abroad.

Dont quote me on that but even if so it wont work as well as just getting a gsm model.
Just a quick question I hope I can get a quick reply on.to help a friend. From what I can tell this phone should work on ATT with a carrier unlock. Just want to be 100% sure before I tell him to go ahead and buy one. But from what I can tell it should be fine (Although may or may not have 4G on ATT, but thats not hugely important).

Thats what I thought. Just wanted to be sure. Ive never had to deal with bringing a phone from one carrier to another before. I know it needs to be carrier unlocked. Just wasn't 100% sure if GSM was ATT compatible. Also thanks for the advice on the ebay protect. Will let my friend know about that.

I need to know if the SM-986U1 bootloader is un-lockable. I bought this phone new, factory unlocked. Activated service with Boost Mobile and everything works great but the (allow OEM unlock) option in developer mode is missing. Can someone please help?
it's not unlockable without paid service
What do you mean by paid service?

most likely you misunderstood samsungs or whoevers terminology that u ordered from.. they likely listed it as "unlocked" but didnt specify as beimg sim/carrier unlocked.

I think they will need to flash a firmware from a region that supports it, otherwise we are also limited by hardware in North America. The sim tray is designed to not allow two Sims.

Indeed. Since just unlocking the BL would be the first step ( major ). The ATT and perhaps Verizon ones have dual imei on boxes incase you weren't aware and the general consensus appears to be that they do posses the HW but are crippled by the software that prevents eSim functionality.

You are right, I am aware. One thing that you should know is that there can only be one sim in NA (North America) variants. The two IMEIs are there coz one is for e-Sim. Now this e-Sim capability is crippled by using software.

LOL my bad my sleepy head was trying to help some one flash beta on a live chat at the time and somehow I didn't read esim, probably just read it as sim.
To be honest I really want that functionality and one of the reasons I bought it unlocked was for esim. I ordered OnLine and when it arrived I was disappointed to see only one imei Samsung no where said they will disable the capability and sell it so frustrating.
Is there any way to carrier unlock this from AT&T? I remember years ago there were some that you could use Odin to carrier unlock. Just curious if its possible with this one or if there is another method.

Odin is a Samsung tool, so that wouldn't work on a Motorola.
What's the model number of the device?
I know there are some different tools for different phones, Odin was just the one I remembered.. I was thinking there was a fairly universal one but couldn't remember or find it. The model number is XT2113.

Metro SIM *can* be used on a T-Mo one without unlocking it though. MVNO rules are weird

Considering it for a potential buy. Buyer is asking $75, so the price is right. I won't be going on metro though, I have way too many lines as it is. It's cheaper to just unlock than pay for 4 months of service, she had it on network for 40ish days and the metro rep says I can pick up where she left off.....which surprised me. I figured it'd be continuous service and/or per an account....but apparently not.

I wonder if it's unlocked, if it would be work on Verizon's network. It lists band 13 in the specs (I don't see any CDMA listed but I could have missed it, and I'm not really concerned about 3g anyway). But I guess it won't be listed in verizon's white list (IIRC that's how they validate IMEIs?). I've heard of peeps calling to get the imei added, but that seems like a long shot.....

And no, 180 days total is what Metro requires - doesn't have to be continuous or even on the same number

You don't have to pay for the full 6 months of service to get it unlocked. I've gotten 4 phones so far from Metro and I always only pay the 1st month, cancel, then chuck it in a drawer and leave it there for the next 5 months. Haven't had any issues unlocking. I've heard of people filing FCC complaints to get devices unlocked early, but I think they may have paid for their devices outright instead of getting it in some sort of promo. YMMV.

But the past 10 or so messages have been about Metro, not T-Mobile

Yes.
Your IMEI is basically blacklisted because you still owe the carrier, so you may only use the phone on their network. To remove the lock, you have to pay it off. Rooting has nothing to do with it and will not help you.

Ever try to jail break an iPhone? Apple locks them up again pretty much after every update. I have no problem with imei being locked down until paid for. Carriers offer financing to stay with them, not act like a bank and give free interest for competitors. Helps stop theft too, phone useless except for parts.
