Can't flash over Japanese firmware to global model. - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm revisiting a situation here because it just seems very odd. Japanese versions of the z5 premium can be flashed over to global with no issues but for some reason, global versions of the z5 premium can't be flashed over to Japanese firmware. It doesn't make any sense. I have an unlocked and rooted z5 premium E6853 and I've been trying to flash over to the Japanese firmware with no success. I can install custom firmwares just fine but this one doesn't seem to want to work. It's possible there could be some limitation built into the firmware that could be worked around but I don't have the knowledge to do this. If anyone would like to take a look at it, I would really appreciate it. I've uploaded the firmware here but you can also get it from xperiafirm.

[Q] Switching firmwares

Hello friends, I'm trying to fix up a GT-N8000 for a friend, it's got ZCBLL5 firmware on it(he got it from china somehow). It did not come with the play store(or any google apps), and since he's an apple guy, he turned to me for help. As it's not my tablet, and i haven't messed much with samsung devices, i don';t want to brick it, so i'm turning to the xda community for a bit of help. We're located in canada, however i see there isn't a canadian firmwrae for this variant. Which would be the best region FW to install, and would it mess up the 3g ability, like would it mess up the IMEI or the CSC. Or would i be better off to root and sideload/flash GAPPS? And would the 3g still function here in canada with the chinese FW. Thanks in advance
Well the german firmware is the one which is updated first so I would advice either the German one or the Nordic one, once you do that you will stop receiving OTA and will have to manually update. I am from India and have installed german and Nordic ones cell services just work fine. The issue with IMEI getting messed to my knowledge will happen only with custom roms.
Once you install any of these roms you will get gapps automatically

[Q] Mobile Data doesn't work.

Hi! I have really mysterious problem with my Moto G. I have Global GSM (because I live in Europe) , 16GB model purchased in US. Of course I'm running stock US ROM (4.4.2). Yesterday I purchased mobile data bundle from T-Mobile, then enabled it and everything was working fine for ~20 minutes. After that mobile data icon disappeared. Now every time when I try to enable mobile data icon does not appear and for example Chrome shows me that I'm offline. Is that because I'm running US ROM in Europe? Also if this is important I have little homescreen lag with stock launcher on US ROM but my friend with UK works really smooth. If so can i flash my US model to UK ROM without problems? Sorry for such dumb questions but I'm new to Android (I was running iOS before). I was searching whole Moto G forum but didn't find any familiar problem. Is there any reason or I need to flash/wipe?
I have a similar or maybe the same problem.
My mobile data drops every now and then. Most of the times it happens when I leave home in the morning. Somehow the switch from wifi at home to the mobile data does not happen and I am offline.
I did not find a solution yet other then rebooting the phone which brings back connectivity.
I found some threads in the internet where Kitkat users with different phones face similar issues, but no solution yet.

I believe this must be a KitKat SW issue.
Or, maybe it is a Moto G issue, because I also ordered the international model in the US and use it in Malaysia, similar to what you did. Still I tend towards a SW issue in KitKat.
I will monitor this problem and post as soon as I have a solution.
The problem is you didn't just flash the US 4.4.2 ROM, you also flashed the US MODEM firmware which is included in the Stock Firmware Images. I was having something similar happen on a UK handset with US ROM / MODEM firmware. Flashing the UK 4.4.2 Firmware Image here solved it. I suggest you don't flash another region's Modem firmware.
FYI: Custom ROMs don't normally change the Modem firmware.
Just for my understanding:
In the US there are two versions to purchase, the "US" and the "International" version.
Since I live in Malaysia I ordered the "International" version, I suppose the thread starter did the same. Would this problem still affect us??
Since I doubt Motorola will do anything, you could experiment yourself. There is a Retail Asian Stock firmware image you could try flashing and see if things improve. Also there is now a 4.4.2 Stock Retail EU firmware image.
Asian Stock Retail firmware image (4.3):

EU Stock Retail firmware image (4.4.2):

I'm looking for a Xperia Z3 D6643 firmware without operator customizations. I already downloaded the XperiFirm, but have only 6633 and 6653 Z3 firmwares.
If someone know where do I can find this, case you need more information about my device, I will provide.
Thanks!
IaguCool already is working in this, thanks a lot
I've seen now in the XperiFirm thread, IagoCool is already discovering the D6643 firmwares on Sony's servers. Thanks!

So, I've seen, I hate the operator's customizations. My phone is with Claro's customization.
I want a unbranded firmware, like the "1281-5466 Customized BR" Z2 firmware.. I thinking about install the Commercial and Journalists version, but I'm not confortable to do that, so I will wait for the "Customized BR".

So, I will wait, I've seen the file size, 1.5 GB vs 1.1 GB of the Claro's customized version, I think this will have much more crap. Waiting for the unbranded / retail version...
Still waiting for the D6643 retail firmware.
Same here... still waiting for generic D6643 firmware....
I'm also waiting for the D6643 Customized BR, without operator stuff : )
what would this journalists version lack that the official firmware should have? in my opinion, if you want journalists to write about your phone, you wouldn't cripple it, would you? anyways, if i had my phone with me now I would install that. but it hasn't arrived yet
Hello everyone,
I'm also looking for a customized version of firmware without operators stuff, and I seen the "Promoter" and "Store-Front" versions in XperiFirm, anyone know about it?
Sorry for my poor english...
up
Waiting too...
Still Waiting for that! Someone found it?

Japanese version SCL24

I'm considering this version imported. I understand it has different bands, and a TV tuner integrated. But what do we know about UK compatibility and is it possible to root it?

Considering this version as well, obviously because of the cheaper price for such a great phone, however without the ability to root or flash roms doesnt quite seal the deal.
I am trying to see if there is an alternative model no, as whats listed is scl24... aka sm-n915? if anyone has any information that would be great as i cannot find any information on this model except from the official au site.
First of all... i have scl24, root with custom rom. And it work in israel, except a gps problem i dont have any other.
Hi all, you can go to vietnamese site to download the 5.0.1 firmware for SCL24 as: http://choimobile.vn/threads/scl24-...-edge-au-beta-3-full-unlock-10-06-2015.60411/
The best for me is Beta3 with auto unlock for Sim and every things work great.
PS: Thanks to Mr. MANH IT for this super rom.

3 UK firmware flashing options...

I have an XZ Premium (G8141) from the 3UK network. I want to use it in the US, likely as a WiFi only device. I want to flash the firmware to remove the 3UK branding. Trying to decide the best option. I don't really care about the fingerprint sensor working or not. If I did decide to use it on a mobile network it would be TMobile US.
I downloaded XperiFirm and for the G8141 there are a number of "Customized" options. If I went this way I imagine I would go with the Customized CE1 or UK version right? That would remove network customization and be a stock Sony firmware?
In the G8142 section there is a Customized US firmware. Is flashing this an option to get a US based firmware? What would be the negative side of doing this?
I appreciate any input. Thank you!

The only difference between the two customised versions is that the US one will have the fingerprint reader disabled.
Any customised firmware build will work, removing the 3UK logo, but avoid the US version if you use fingerprint unlock
Thank you for the response! Another question, are the Customized firmwares official Sony ones?
