honor 10 ceo taking questions and discussing, have your say - Huawei P20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Here's the link, https://www.xda-developers.com/chat-with-the-honor-ceo-on-xda-every-friday-starting-today/
I've said my two cents on page 18.
If they don't overturn their choice to leave the bootloader the way it is, then my Huawei /Honor marriage starts and ends with the p20 pro

New phone to choose LG g5 or the honor 8

Hello community,
While custom development is very important for me, and I would build my own stuff what is the best phone to buy?
I know lg is not open to devs but the have some working roms.
Bot on this thread of honor 8 it seem that is not much progress of developing due the lack of sources from honor.
So I holding off to buy the honor 8 is there any news of progressing with the release of sources?
Since you are a developer I'd say you would be better of getting the LG G5. As it runs on the Snapdragon 820, which is easier to develop custom ROMs for than the Kirin 950 used in the Honor 8. However the Honor 8 does have much better build quality than the LG G5.

I usually stop reading right at this point and recommend a Nexus.

Yeah, a Nexus is the perfect device for custom ROM developers.
If you have to choice between Honor 8 and LG G5. Go with the Honor 8. LG doesn't unlock bootloader. Their customer service is horrible. I bought a brand new unlock LG Flex 2 and the battery die in 10 months. I contacted LG and they wouldn't fix it under warranty because it was bought unlocked. Their reason was I didn't buy it brand new because it was unlocked. I provided proof of purchase and it clearly stated the phone is unlocked and brand new with the purchase date within warranty. They refused to fix it.
Stay away from LG. Look through all the LG section here. People are frustrated with LG phones. This is why LG keeps losing money in their mobiles business. They make unreliable products and don't honor their warranty
I was just in the same position a couple of weeks ago. My Xperia Z5 compact battery was dying, and wouldn't even make it through a day. I did a lot of comparison between the LG G5 and the Honor 8. I finally went with the 64GB version of the Honor 8, and I have no complaints so far.
This doesn't really answer your question, but I thought I'd throw in my experience.
If that is your only choice go for honor. G5 modular concept really messed up their build quality. A friend of mine has one a while the bottom does not fit all that secure after he fiddles with it a lot. Now he uses Moto Z, seems more secure to me.
Thanks all, I am now having a Oneplus X. I will go for the honor 8! Nexus 5x is nice phone my girlfriend have it and she love the fingerpint scanner so that's why I pick those 2 phones plus and wanted better cpu and charging

Huawei P10 how to check if its actually new

Hey you beautiful people, I'm about to do a trade in from our local sell/buy website and i would be receiving a "vacuum sealed" Huawei P10
Now, half of my personality is "I don't trust nobody" and I have requested from the guy to take a picture of the little sticker containing imei and such, so in hopes I can check if the phone was ever activated or whatnot
I got the picture I asked for but I haven't found a place or a way to check it if the phone is actually new.
I tried using the imei.info website which gave me nothing on if the phone is activated or not, now I had the idea maybe it doesn't say because it wasn't actually activated so I typed in my personal phones imei (samsung phone) and i got a whole different set of info, now I had the idea "okay, maybe because its a Samsung and not a Huawei phone and the set of info you get is different from brand to brand, so I grabbed my mommas phone, she has a Huawei P10 lite, typed in her phones imei and the infos i got was 98% the same to what the p10 had, except my moms phone had 2 additional sections of the dates the phone was bought which matches the expiring date of the warranty if you add 2 years to the purchase date
But, still no info of phone activation knowing one phone is definitely used and I question the validity of the P10 I would be receiving
I wouldn't use the P10 I would sell it and get a smart watch to go with my samsung phone, already have a buyer for the p10, but I would still like to know if you can actually check if the phone was activated (in this case a huawei p10) without opening the seal and booting the phone up and looking for the uptime and other things like total calls time, etc in the details of the phone in the settings
My apologies if the post is long, I like to give as much details as I can

Nice, no doubt... But for me and many other people,, if not most, i think they buy the Mate 30 X or Mate 40 X or what the model no. will be, if they make this size of a phone again... When the 5G will become standard for all.
I think my self 5G will be running for most people in Europe in the Q3/Q4 2020. But we will see.
I really looking forward to see what it will give us all in reality.

"in screen fingerprint reader" is not accurate, however they're referencing the mate 20 x presentation where it was stated that 5G would be coming to the 20x
On hold for now.

Nice yes but, 4100-4200mah battery, i really dont like that.
Display and battery size is for me no. 1 all other thungs coming after.
I had a dream of a m30x, but im sure after the m20x 5g, there will not be one.
So if Huawei dont release a phone with 7,2 inch minimum i think i will buy the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 pro, unless a similar phone with better specs will come.
But still i hope for somthing, i really wanna try Hong Meng/Ark OS, but maybe all other Chinese mobile brand will come to this OS to... Hope so.
And i hope its totally new thinking without Android, im 100% Android man, but in my opinion Android need to wake up. Every time they release some new stuff, its minimal like Samsung, nothing big or special at all.
Could be good for customers with some competition i guess [emoji1303]

Yeah i know, but you get faster 40W changing in return. This is still the best phone for me and faster changing, more ram/storage and 5G for the future is nice. It's too bad the didn't upgrade the 5G model more.
Does anyone actually know if this phone is available to buy in Europe or China? I know that some Finnish, Norwegian and the Swiss network Sunrise did announce sale and tariffs but I cannot see this phone online to buy sim free/outright.
I have a feeling that the availability will be limited to China only until the Mate 30 series is launched. Only then, if the US ban is lifted then we might see a Mate 30X with long delays due to preparations etc…. otherwise they might launch the Mate 20x globally with Mate X in September as these models are pre-Trump ban certified models, Lets see how it goes.
If anyone finds a sale link from Asia or other location that accepts secure payment methods (not western union etc.… ) then do please post it here.

You can buy it from etoren. It's a European online store. I bought mine from them in January. I have actually bought many phones from them and is tax free and 2-3 days delivery with DHL.

Also a Global model number is easier to search. I know that the Chinese 5G is EVR-AN00.

Huawei Mate 20X 5G - 5G Speed Test
Its finally here, The Huawei Mate 20X 5G the most powerful 5G handset available today, in this video I share some of my results of 5G speeds around London and give you some exclusive behind the scenes never before seen footage regarding what Huawei are working on within the 5G sector. #huaweimate20x5g #harmonyos #5GisON
You can watch the Video here: https://youtu.be/JResgwXSBbA
Or feel free to read my article below:
5G 5G 5G, What is it all about and How good is the new Huawei Mate 20 X 5G? Well in todays video I will be sharing Huawei’s idea of the future of 5G and sharing my results of 5G speeds around London using the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G.
First off lets take a look at Huawei’s first 5g handset to hit the market, yes I have tried the Mate X which is the gorgeous foldable smartphone from Huawei but in this video I will only be focusing on the Mate 20 X 5G as I feel it’s a device most consumers will purchase when you consider the hefty price differences between the 2.
It is a huge device and it’s pretty heavy, then again it needs to be to house the Huawei Balong 5000 which is the worlds first 7nm multi-mode 5G chipset. It provides industry leading 5G speeds and supports both NSA & SA architecture to aid in a smooth transition of the ever evolving 5G network. There is so much new technology that has gone into the Mate 20 X 5G that the battery has had to be reduced from 5000 to 4200mah, and both the headphone jack and top speaker have had to be removed too. Who says that you don’t need to compromise to be a part of the future?
So I attended a Huawei photo walk around London and thought it would be an ideal opportunity to test the 5G speeds using a sim card from EE in the Mate 20 X 5G and I would say that the results made for interesting reading. Some were what I expected and others not so much. I recorded download speeds of between 98.4 all the way up to nearly 400 megabits per second during the photo walk, so what does this mean, well simply put the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G is more than capable of providing higher speeds than the ones I experienced, however the Networks in the UK are still in their 5G infancy and as such need time to expand the 5G availability for consumers as currently its only available in certain areas and even then it’s not wide reaching after all I managed to hit download speeds of 170 megabits per second using 4G on the Mate 20 X 5G by simply sitting in my living room.
So I know most people are thinking well 5G is good for downloading movies and music but there is so much more to this than meets the eye and having seen first hand what Huawei has planned for 5G I must admit that’s what I find more exciting. Imagine a world of never having to download a game to your phone again but instead simply using cloud gaming whilst on the go? Yep that’s right if you are into games like Assasins creed, Fortnite or any heavy, demanding and intensive games then 5G is for you. Think about playing the full versions of these games not the mobile versions on your smartphone. By utilising the power of servers and hardware designed to run the full fat version of these titles and then streaming the games from those to your smartphone using 5G means real gaming for the hardcore gamer, not to mention smooth online multiplayer action where you could be playing against someone using a PC whilst you are on your Mate 20 X 5G.
This also applies to Cloud VR gaming and experiences, where a smartphone doesn’t really have the power of full VR but you could experience new worlds and VR games over 5G by using a VR headset and equipment that would move in real time to your actions without having to invest in millions of pounds of equipment that is needed to give you a smooth and seemless out of body experience. What about from a professional point of view? Cloud PC will cover that, if you need large files from the office or you need to network at the same time with other members of your team or clients you could do it now over 5G without having to download huge GB’s of files, presentations, production work etc will all be at hand anytime you need it. Just think if you could produce and render plans, blueprints, videos, documents on the fly and in real time and as you do others can add to it with their ideas and make any alterations if needed. 360 live streaming would also be possible, imagine Google maps but instead, in real time and the ability of even being able to see people walking around but again in 360 degrees simply from your smartphone, this would bring massive improvement to security, navigation and lets be honest it would be a lot of fun.
Overall the Mate 20 X 5G is a great first 5G handset from Huawei and I really enjoyed testing it out, but what excites me more is what 5G will bring to the smartphone and the direction Huawei is heading in. From what I have seen I can clearly see why Huawei is the leader in 5G and I can’t wait to see what else they bring to the speed table.
It has been available in UAE for past couple of weeks. It only comes in green color and for some reason when I hold it, it feels slightly thicker and heavier than then 4g version.

Pre-order Honor 20?

Followed the advert link on xda to pre-order Honor 20 and get smart watch free, thought it might be an opportunity to make some profit on ebay, gumtree etc.
Anybody with any thoughts on how the list price of the Honor 20 might vary after the release date?

Huawei Mate 30 pro in the Netherlands

According to some twitter posts from Huawei nl, the Mate 30 pro is officially available at Mediamarkt stores in the Netherlands by 21/02/2020.
The price will be around €950
950€...that's still a hefty sum. Paid a lot less for mine 2nd hand but in new condition.
Looking at it, you can buy a brand new note 10+ for less than this and that phone comes with google play. I ask myself how many people will pay this price for a handicapped device. Not all of them are ready to side load google or even go without google.
Hell, the other day I had a note 10+ in my hands and you can say what you want but that is also a nice piece of tech.
It is official in UK as well.
