New phone to choose LG g5 or the honor 8 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hello community,
While custom development is very important for me, and I would build my own stuff what is the best phone to buy?
I know lg is not open to devs but the have some working roms.
Bot on this thread of honor 8 it seem that is not much progress of developing due the lack of sources from honor.
So I holding off to buy the honor 8 is there any news of progressing with the release of sources?

Since you are a developer I'd say you would be better of getting the LG G5. As it runs on the Snapdragon 820, which is easier to develop custom ROMs for than the Kirin 950 used in the Honor 8. However the Honor 8 does have much better build quality than the LG G5.

I usually stop reading right at this point and recommend a Nexus.

Yeah, a Nexus is the perfect device for custom ROM developers.

If you have to choice between Honor 8 and LG G5. Go with the Honor 8. LG doesn't unlock bootloader. Their customer service is horrible. I bought a brand new unlock LG Flex 2 and the battery die in 10 months. I contacted LG and they wouldn't fix it under warranty because it was bought unlocked. Their reason was I didn't buy it brand new because it was unlocked. I provided proof of purchase and it clearly stated the phone is unlocked and brand new with the purchase date within warranty. They refused to fix it.
Stay away from LG. Look through all the LG section here. People are frustrated with LG phones. This is why LG keeps losing money in their mobiles business. They make unreliable products and don't honor their warranty

I was just in the same position a couple of weeks ago. My Xperia Z5 compact battery was dying, and wouldn't even make it through a day. I did a lot of comparison between the LG G5 and the Honor 8. I finally went with the 64GB version of the Honor 8, and I have no complaints so far.
This doesn't really answer your question, but I thought I'd throw in my experience.

If that is your only choice go for honor. G5 modular concept really messed up their build quality. A friend of mine has one a while the bottom does not fit all that secure after he fiddles with it a lot. Now he uses Moto Z, seems more secure to me.

Thanks all, I am now having a Oneplus X. I will go for the honor 8! Nexus 5x is nice phone my girlfriend have it and she love the fingerpint scanner so that's why I pick those 2 phones plus and wanted better cpu and charging

[Q] Cyanogenmod for LG G Pro 2 D838?

When will Cyanogenmod for LG G PRO 2 release? I'm waiting since forever.
why not just trade in for a OnePlus? it's similar spec, cheaper and CM as standard.
Yeah, did that only.
Oneplus one is cheaper but invite system is a headache but somehow I was able to get an invite and I finally got the oneplus one.
P. S. Selling an LG phone was none less than a nightmare as most people still prefer a crappy second hand Samsung phone compared to a second hand LG flagship device with awesome specs.
Actually, OnePlus now use their own OS - Oxygen.
and every tuesday, you can buy the OnePlus without invite.

Should I still buy the OPO?

Hi!
Well, I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 as a gift and as much as I appreciate it, I'm not a fan of the Samsung brand because of their build quality (it improved in those 2014-end devices but I'm talking about the GS4). The GS4 is being sold by the main stores at 399€ so I'm planning to sell it for 320€/350€, buy the OnePlus One and even buy a case/skin for it.
Well, trading the GS4 for the OPO is a no brainer but I am thinking in selling the GS4, get the money and save it to spend it later on a better 2015 phone.
What should I do? Should I buy the OPO, should I buy another device or should I wait? I would buy the OPO without a doubt if it was some months before but after hearing all the confusion between OnePlus and Cyanogen, CM12s being promised to around this date and still being unreleased... Should I wait for a possible "OnePlus Two"? Should I buy a Nexus device? (I currently own a Galaxy Nexus)
I need some advice
You won't get $350 for your s4, check swappa.com for me easy place to sell and to get a realistic idea of what you'll get for yours. I've had a lot of phones and the 1+1 is far and away my favorite. Dev community is excellent, hardware is top notch, great speakers, beautiful screen, awesome battery life, it's really does everything perfectly. How long do you typically keep your devices, though? If you want to keep your next phone for more than a year, I'd say to wait and see what 2015 flagships bring.
Without a doubt if your interested, buy the phone! I've recently bought a Nexus 6 and the OPO is still one of my favorite phones of all time even compared to the Nexus 6!

Nah man, I can sell it for 350/320€ without a problem. Here in Portugal mobile contracts are rare, 95% of the population buys the phones carrier locked (which means we can only use that carrier's SIM cards in our phones) and the devices are expensive. GS4 is being sold at 399€ new in the big carriers so I can sure sell it for less 50 or 80 euros.
I have my Galaxy Nexus for almost 3 years and I don't change my devices often, maybe 3 to 4 years. I also can't spend over 500€ on a device so I don't have wallet for a HTC or a LG or a high end Samsung (even though they aren't the best price/quality choices, I'm just stating xd).
I would be sad if I bought the OnePlus One today and June or July comes and "OnePlus Two" comes at the same price, with better specs and the CM12s. But I don't also want to wait until OnePlus decides do reveal or not a new device. That's why I'm asking here, to know the thoughts of the ones who bought the OPO since they sure are better informed than me.
Definitely get it. I had motorola, samsung, nexus etc I even had the LG G3 before coming to the 1+. I love it, hands down the best phone I have owned and I wouldn't get rid of it till it is properly dead.

I wouldn't be sad, theres always going to be the 'next' follow up phone, even if you buy the 'newest' it doesnt take long for a successor to come along or at least the rumours. With the Oneplus One you are still getting great value for money, stable CM11S, CM12S due shortly (definitely), along with OxygenOS and lot of other custom ROMs to pick from. Not to mention the obvious like nexus-easy bootloader unlock and root.
You can also now get a OPO relatively easy, plenty of invites knocking about or just purchase directly every Tuesday. I imagine its going to be pretty hard to get hold of an invite for the Oneplus Two when its released, as I'm guessing it will be invite only for the first while, so factor that into your thoughts around waiting time/availabilty.
I've had the Galaxy S4, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 all within the last 5 months and overall the OPO is better than them all. Theres no added bloat, no difficulty/warranty issues unlocking the bootloader, solid stock CM and as many custom ROMs as you like and the battery life is fantastic. In terms of the nexus 5, its basically a nexus 6 for those who were underwhelmed by the nexus 6, in terms of large (without being too large) screen, great battery life (non 2k screen), decent camera and very reasonable price.

Which LG G Flex 2 Variant to Buy

Hello all
I am going to buy the LG G Flex 2 since it have a great discounted price at the moment
But I am confused between the different variants available, in particular H950, H955 and F510.
All of these three variants support the LTE bands for my carrier. I know that H955 does not have 3 gb of ram so it is out for me.
Now between H950 and F510, are both having 3gb of RAM? what about update to Marshmallow? Is root possible?
I would appreciate your help since I could not come up with these information from internet/XDA search
i would advise u to NOT buy the flex 2.
my flex 2 died at the start of this month didn't even work for a year it was complete stock n never dropped. its stuck in a bootloop n boots normally only when charging so it seems like its a hardware problem. also there are no customs roms for this device n it seems like the support for this device will soon die thanks to the locked bootloader. u r better off buying a s6, s7, oneplus 3T if possible. i bought the s7 edge n it rocks. its better to stay away from lg for the time being. the g4 g5 v10 v20 flex 2 according to various blogs, posts, sites these models are prone to bootloop.
This phone it's only good if you wanna get looks from people. If you want performance, get another phone. When you try to load something like a game of even a video on youtube, it gets hot. No unlocked bootloader. The only root posibility is on android 5.1 (from my opinion, 5.1 UI sucks).
I would advise you to not buy this phone.
The 2GB Ram versions don't have enough Ram. (In my opinion.)
The 3GB H950, is totally screwed by AT&T. :crying:
The phone also has lots of hardware issues with screens and overheating.
If you have money, got for the One Plus 3/T, if you don't have money, something like the Huawei P9 Lite is great. :victory:

Is Oneplus 6 best phone with Snapdragon 845 for rooting?

I am looking at purchasing a new phone to replace my Samsung Galaxy S5 and do not want to deal with anymore Knox BS. I been reading up on phones that do not void warranty for rooting. If I am going to buy a new phone I want it to last me several years and so have opted for the Snapdragon 845 and hopefully a nice bright display that can be seen pretty well in the sun.
So I wanted to ask this of you all that have used it or compared it to other phones would you say the Oneplus 6 phone is the best phone to get at this time that can also be rooted without voiding warranty. I know other brands like Xiaomi or Moto also provide warranty after rooting but what is your opinion?
I skipped the Pixel 2 as it has such a small screen and cost several hundred dollars more as I prefer to be at least in the 6" screen size.
Yes. You'll have a lot of change to deal with, but yes.
It's a great phone, never heard of someone being disappointed by it. Unfortunately it's turning OnePlus into a meme now so they're probably going to be the next Samsung... anyway that'll probably be several phone iterations away.
Thanks for the information. Yeah I hope it does not turn into another Samsung in the future!
Thanks for the information!

What is a budget phone with good community support in the half of 2020?

Hello.
I am bit of tired of that 2000 USD smartphone marketing crap and I am looking for something that may cost around 300$ (it may be like 5 years old phone, I don't care) with long term developers community on XDA.
From what I remember the Google phones and Samsung Galaxy were quite good at getting updates by community.
My latest phone is ASUS ZENFONE MAX ZC550KL (bought for like 200USD at the very begining of 2016). Its still a very nice phone, but it has troubles with GSM antena when I am outside of my country. It may or not be a problem with custom rom (AimRom), but nevertheless I need a backup phone in case this would break. Somehow I feel that this zenfone is at its limits.
If I remember correctly I was considering A20, A40 or A50 but I didn't check them out on XDA tho
Thank you
Oh v30 or v50
