I was just wondering if those of you who haven't ordered the Mi Mix 2S yet are you considering the OnePlus 6 instead? I'm kind of on the fence between this phone and the upcoming OP6. I like the fact that the OP6 has similar specs with reportedly very good camera and waterproofing.
Am I the only one debating this or are you guys convinced the Mi Plus 2s is the right phone for you?

My 1+1 is very old now so I had to decide between MI mix 2s or waiting for the 1+6, I bought the mi mix 2s because the price is lower, the design is just awesome and the camera is very good. Oneplus said everytime their new camera makes perfect images and it was crappy everytime
The only reason for me I would prefer the 1+6 over the 2s is the huge developer community behind oneplus devices, there are houndreds of Roms, kernels and mods. However with the new project treble we will see lots of Roms for the mi mix 2s for sure and if you check the xda page of the mi mix 2 you can see there is lots of development too (of course not as much as for 1+ devices). As far as I know the 1+6 will only be splashwater proof
B28 kinda important to me but don't need/want the 256gb and not paying that much for a network band lol. Will wait and see what OP6 brings or even u12 to replace u11.

I was ready to buy a Mi Mix 2S but I wanted to wait for the OnePlus 6 but that notch just kills it for me.
It does not have any symmetry or anything in its design, its just ugly IMO. Although I dont like the camera bump on the mi mix 2s either, with the provided case it looks actually quite good.
How about bringing the Mate 10 Pro into the equation as well? Personally I was waiting to choose between the 3 of them, but the notch brought the choice down to 2. 1+6 is too apple-ish imo. I think I will start another thread on 2S vs M10P btw.
Wanting a Snapdragon 845, there isn't a huge choice at reasonable prices.
I'll probably choose the Mi Mix 2S over the OnePlus 6 because:
- cheaper
- no ugly notch
- has wireless charging

How is your opinion about how the 2s feels in your hands? For me that's the only downside of the 2s, my 1+1 feels so much better (especially because of the weight) and without the case the 2s is very slippery...
Honestly, I was waiting for the OP6 launch but after seeing what they are offering, decided to go with the Mi Mix 2s. Then I saw that not only did Xiaomi not get rid of their stupid unlocking period, they actually increased it to 360 hours. Seriously, this is the kind of BS that makes me want to never buy another Xiaomi device. Went through tons of hassle with my Mi 6 unlocking and not feeling like doing it again so looks like it is OP6 for me.

Right now there are no custom roms or even stock roms for the MM2S, so waiting two weeks is not a problem for me at least. I wish I could unlock immediately, of course, but I don't think it's a problem waiting two weeks at this point.

I like to unlock the bootloader on all my devices as soon as I get it so I don't have to format again later. I just don't understand the reasoning behind this process I guess. Also, I wonder if the mi mix 2s will have a decent rom scene or at least better than the disappointing mi 6 custom development

Yeah, good point. Although unlocking will most probably result in wiping all your data, I have actually unlocked the Redmi Note 4 without wiping anything for some reason. This might not be the case, but also, I have read that using MIUI in-built backup will restore everything...
Regarding custom development, time will tell. But the fact that it's on the P preview is a good signal, I guess.
Also, GSI images seem to be working relatively good according to some users.
Im waiting to see what the mi7/8 brings to the table. Hopefully Xiaomi will include band 20.
Mi 7/8 will bring a notch to the table. Also probably 3D face recognition

I had a not-so-good experience with my OP3T and always wanted a Mix phone, because they are the most beautiful phones around
The speaker (calls) died after like 8 months or so, so i had to fit with earphones or the main speaker which is a pain in the ass, battery has been failing lately and also feels slightly sluggish on stock rom.
the biggest issue is the first one, TONS OF PEOPLE had problems with the 3T speaker and they made it look like it never happened, honestly if it wasnt a small bug i would say "whatever" but i could hardly use the MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE OF A PHONE, CALLING... also updates? op forgot about 3t after 5 released.

What's the diff between this and Mi 8? Really, I'm just wondering what the mi mix series in general vs mi's in general are different, in what way?
Well, the Mi 8 is 5mm taller and a bit lighter, has a notched AMOLED screen,dual GPS, and the FaceID functions. 2S has QI wireless charging though.
Most of the internals seem to be same, so it's really screen type and front design that sets them apart.
As much as I miss AMOLED, having a notchless screen and a smaller phone works fine for me!
Really disapointed with this policy to copy the notch from Apple phone....thank God, the 2S haven't that.
Mi 8 has QC 4.0, 2S has QC 3.0.
Overall, Mi 8 is the same as 2S, but with 6,21 amoled screen, with 2248×1080, 20-megapixel selfie camera. dual GPS, Android 8.1 Oreo with interface MIUI 10...and a notch....
Can't tell about the bezels, it seems to be almost the same.
If you like notch, this phone have some improvements over Mix 2S...

MIX series has a unique design to get rid of the notch and use no top bezel. Unless manufacturers figure out a way to shoot photos through the screen or use Vivo solution with retractable camera, there is no way around notch/top bezel. I was waiting to see Lenovo with "full screen display" and look what they done. The only reason i bought MIX 2S is that phone look way too cool and i do not mind flipping it when taking a selfie.
Anything more than 6" is hard to fit in the pocket and will require huge battery, so for me this is a best phone i've seen this year so far, not to mention quick updates from MIUI. I am using Smart Launcher for years and i think it's better that any GUI, unfortunately, manufacturers will always find and excuse to install bunch of bloatware. Only complain is that this phone is too heavy because of the ceramic back
I currently own a Mi Mix 2 at the moment, and I have to say that it is perfect in my eyes aside from one pretty significant issue. Whenever you scroll through text, or anything really, there is a blurring effect similar to ghosting on LCD displays only waay worse. If you do a quick Google you can see gifs that demonstrate how bad it is. Everything else about the panel is perfect with regards to color reproduction and brightness.
My question is this, has the issue been resolved in the Mi Mix 2s? I read on a display benchmark that the response time from black to white has decreased 10ms.

So there's no text blur or ghosting on yours? The Mi Mix 2 I have is insanely smooth, but still has ghosting pretty evidently.

I'm interested in buying this phone but I am really worried about this 'ghosting' issue that was present in the Mi MIX 2. I searched online to see if the issue was still present in the Mi MIX 2S and found this statement in the AnandTech review:
"What is probably the Mi MIX 2S’s biggest weak point is the screen. I was subjectively quite annoyed with the pixel response time as it very much results in visible ghosting and smearing, especially in scrolling text."
The reason this worries me is because my eyes are very sensitive. I bought a ZTE Axon 7 last year and had nothing but trouble for months with headaches and eyestrain. I found this was due to the phone using an AMOLED panel with Pulse-Width Modulation. I stopped using the phone immediately and my symptoms disappeared the next day. Users also reported these symptoms with the Samsung Galaxy S7 which uses the exact same display panel.
I have a Mi Mix 2s and it most definitely has severe ghosting when scrolling. If you are sensitive to that stuff this phone ain't for you I'm afraid. Text gets pretty blurred when scrolling. The panel has a very bad refresh rate. The phone is super smooth in operation though. But stuff gets blurred.
The ghosting is tolerable. If you updated to miui 10 pie rom + enable force gpu rendering, it will be better and almost unnoticeable.
The major drawback from this ghosting screen is VR. This phone is almost unusable for vr headset, since moving head a little will create severe motion blur.

Thanks for those responses. I didn't see these messages until now because I wasn't quoted in the replies. That really sucks if the phone suffers from bad ghosting. The problem is, Xiaomi devices aren't sold officially within the UK and so I can't just pop into a store and try it out for myself. I know my eyes are supersensitive when it comes to PWM flickering but I might be OK with the ghosting, especially if I can enable GPU rendering and apply tempered-glass to reduce the effect as suggested. Would this really make a big difference?
I know I'm fine with my ZUK Z2 which does NOT use PWM and has response times of 18ms Black to White and 30ms 50% Grey to 80% Grey. In comparison the Mi MIX 2S is 25.4ms and 56ms respectively, which is a fair amount worse on paper.
This really is colossally disappointing because the Mi MIX 2S is like my dream phone despite it's few flaws. Unfortunately the Mi MIX 2 also suffers the same problem and the Mi MIX 3 will be far too expensive. I have a choice of the Pocophone F1 too but I can't stand the notch and those horrid rounded corners. The Mi A2 is another but the 3,000mAh battery capacity is not sufficient in 2018.

GPU rendering does not help one bit. Placebo. It's hardware limitation.

*Sigh* I don't think there's even a phone in existence at the moment that meets the criteria I'm looking for. The Honor View 10 was looking like the phone for me until Huawei decided to stop bootloader unlocking. All the other non-OLED alternatives like the Pocophone, Mi MIX 2S and Mi A2 have their own problems as I mentioned previously.
I wish more manufacturers would adopt 120Hz panels like Razer. I think that's the future. I'd also like to see more in-screen fingerprint scanners but at least we know for certain that technology is coming to the mainstream shortly.

Yeah it's really the only flaw with this phone. I see it easily when using it but it's not a dealbreaker for me. But I understand it is if you are sensitive to that kind of stuff I know some can get dizzy and **** because of it. Most phones have at least one thing that can be bothersome. I still wait for the perfect phone for me! This is pretty close though.

Well thanks for your feedback, I had a hard time finding a definitive answer on this since a lot of people claim they don't notice anything wrong with the screen on the Mi MIX 2S. Regrettably I think it's probably best for me to avoid this phone and wait for something else. Right now there's nothing else that matches what I'm looking for.
Hopefully they'll fix the screen issues in the Mi MIX 3 but I don't like the thought of spending more than £300 on a phone, so it won't be for me. And they might end up using OLED which means unbearable PWM flickering.

I think you make the right choice. Every time I scroll on my 2s I see like a ghost image standing still for a split millisecond while content scrolls. It's enough to notice it all the time and while it bothers me a bit I can live with it. Good luck whatever you decide to get in the future =)
I have the same bad surprise with a Mi Mix 2. The perfect phone for many of my criterias, but this blurred text is very annoying for me.

Which one is the super? ?
None 8a better than the P20pro. Here's why.
The performance in flagships have plateaued because most of them can handle anything without breaking a sweat. The Kirin 970 is still good.
Now the p20 pro has a camera that is still unbeatable... Esp those handheld 4/5 sec long exposure shots.
If you still want to buy a phone, still, don't get any of these cause the UI remotely follows a similar role model. Get the Pixel 2 XL.
Of these two (Nex or 2S), the Nex is better, IMHO.
Vivo nex is a far better option than mi mix 2s.
I'm currently using nex, though i have not used mix 2s.
I have used mix 2 as it was launched in my country India.
Mix 2 was a strictly good phone. Nothing Excellent about it.
But the vivo nex is much superior. The display quality is enough to beat mi mix 2s.
Better camera , latest tech and battery are other few advantages.

My previous phone was a Mi Mix 2, cant compare these 2, the Nex is a beast!
I have been using the Mix 2s for about a month now and i am observing this forum to see if its worth "upgrading" to the Nex in the next few months. I always have a fear of early batch production issues and it seems like there is a thread that already exists dedicated to poor display panels. Suffered with the Sony xperias and even galaxies. Lesson learnt, wait until the later batches have been manufactured.
As to Mix 2s over Nex, i can already see several advantages that puts the Nex as the top pick! Aside from the new tech that is yet to be implemented in the Mix series, and im saying this with the lack of visibility over the dev community on funtouch os, i would think that Vivo would only be inferior in the software department. Xiaomi so far has a huge community dedicated to MIUI and they're after all, focusing on this aspect as part of their selling point. Nonetheless, MIUI is still buggy as heck so i would be wary of FuntouchOS unless someone can vouch for that software which clearly looks like an iOS copycat (imho)
My opinion on the 2s:
Pro
1. Looks pretty; first time using a ceramic phone, becareful it shatters unforgivably
2. Small form factor despite a 6 inch screen, well because of that display
3. Fast, 845 SD same as the NEX. This one should not show any difference with the NEX
Cons
1. lacks in a good camera (despite the high DXOmark score, the rear camera is buggy and is inconsistent, dont get me started on that poor Front camera)
2. battery, soso (probably due to average size batter and LCD panel)
3. lacks a punchy speaker (false stereo, dont expect an immersive experience)
4. Proximity sensor is inconsistent (using a new tech leveraging infra tech, which is also not consistent when you're on the phone)
5. Buggy software (this one is frustrating, apps occasionally crash and i cant use spotify now for some odd reason, yet to reformat but ill do that when miui10 comes out)

i am an (almost) happy Mix 3 user. Almost because the slider mechanism as example given.. I don´t have any problems with it for now, besides a light wobble that seems to be normal on this model in most cases. I am more concerned about the longlivity of the mechanism and the dust that can get into it (using a FitBag for it). I got my device some weeks ago but i am not sure if a phone made of one peace is just easier to maintain. I always have a look for dust between the both halfes of the Mix 3 and baby it. Some kind of stress..
Now the Mi 9T Pro is available for preorder in Europe i think to replace the Mix 3 with it. The problem is that i am not sure if this is a logical step in performance and features..
I am using the back camera a lot and the Mix 3 one is great for me. I don´t want to make a step backwards, but i think a phone made out of one peace makes me feel better in some way.. Can´t discribe it any better.. Maybe i can´t decide and thinking about to much..

No, stick with mix, cams are better, gcam will also be better, magnetic mechanism will also do better then the pop up on Mi9t pro, less prone to brake. Thats my opinion, but if you look for something different Mi9t pro is good alternative for Mix 3, but I wouldnt go for it, maybe ill replace mine with Mix 4 in couple of months, but for now ill enjoy in this beauty
I actually went for the Mix 3 because I was concerned about the longevity of pop up cameras. To me, knowing that the slider mechanism is not motorized and uses less moving parts was a big bonus over other phones with motorized cameras. That being said, dust can be an issue, I find myself wiping off dust from the front camera quite regularly. And the motorized cameras in other phones haven't started breaking yet, so I think time will tell how reliable they are.
I'm using a case (wich let me use slider normally) and i don't fight with the dust so frequently. I LOVE this phone and i love the slider too, less breakble than popup cameras

Not really less breakable. Even people in this forum have managed it.
Pop up camera is hidden and hides when phones dropped. Motor will last longer than the amount of times you'd use the camera.
Slider has more weak points - wobbles, has a gap and stuff can get in.
Break slider break screen. Break pop up camera lose camera.

Apart "stuff can get in" part wich i really can't understand because apart some little dust wich can be easily cleaned, idk what people fimd inside their phones LoL, i think that 1 fall = one break for both mechanisms ?, so durable or not it's a war that comes to an end with the same result in that case

Dust etc scratches the camera which it's done on mines so camera will be better protected with pop up and probably better water resistance as well.
Slider is a good way round the notch but not the best way especially with the unwanted extra 30-40g weight and thickness
I think the MI 9T Pro is a little bit more thicker than the Mix 3. Really hard to decide..
The MI 9T Pro is more a mainstream phone and I like the "prototype character" and the exclusivity of the Mix series. Beside the maintenance the phones needs I am very happy with it. First world problems.
By the way. I am always using a Fitbag to protect the phone when carrying it in the pocket. I don't like cases, they add bulk and hide the beauty of the phones. I never had any scratch or something else because of dirt and dust.

Totally agree. I've also been looking hard at the Mi 9, mostly because of the weight and thickness. On the other hand, I really like the Mix 3, performance is great, battery is fine (for me), so if I keep it a while there will be something out by then that's better than the Mi 9, or the Mi 9 will be cheaper at that time.
I got my Mi 9T Pro yesterday but i really can´t decide between the both.. I "played" a little bit with the 9T Pro and tested everything, but i can´t help myself - for now i like the Mix 3 more, especially design wise. The slider is so much cooler than the popup cam.. Overall the 9T Pro looks so "normal" when you compare it with the Mix 3, the Mix 3 really stands out of the masses - that is why i always choosed the Mix series.
I also started to migrate my data to the 9T Pro but i stopped it at last to go on with the Mix for today. Maybe i start another try today evening, but i am really unsure.
Even if the 9T Pro is a little bit lighter, the battery much bigger and the display looks a bit more colorful compared to the Mix 3, the slider free display.. I am really unsure in the end if this would be my daily driver.
I am not a gamer, but a power user on Chrome and some board apps. Never got the hardware to it´s limits. I also take photos very often, and in my first impression the cam of the Mix 3 is also better. I did a direct comparsion with both phones photos on a calibrated display on my computer.

Try some low light pictures. Then it's easy to decide. I would never buy a phone without OIS.
I finally decided to return the Mix 3 and to use the MI 9T Pro. I also did some test shots with the cam and can't heavily tell a difference, even in low light (stock and gcam).
I use the MI 9T Pro now as using a normal phone while I babied the Mix 3 every now and than because of dust between slider and body.
