HTC U12+ - HTC U11+ Guides, News, & Discussion

So it got announced this morning and it looks like HTC spent all their research budget on cameras!
The only differences i can see
1) dual back and front cameras
2) snapdragon 845
And thats it!
Interestingly still on android 8.0 but they have promised an Android P upgrade, so anyone holding out for 8.1 update i doubt that is coming to either phone.
Cant see any reason for any u11+ owner to upgrade, smaller battery and tiny upgrades.

Who would want to Upgrade to/Buy another HTC device after their lawsy software updates!
Man HTC and SONY are running themselves to the grave. I mean the formula for success is very simple if they just simply stick with it:
Great Hardware+Great Software Support+Listen to Customers+Phone Availability in Markets+Great Pricing=Success!

Slow down Dj Moha !, doesnt matter what we do with our phone's, because we pay lot's money for it and we only want a decent support an updates, even just we use the phone for play or hit to someone in the head with it! That is our problem, if you dont want to claim right service its your problem and dont come to give us lesson's about how to use our phones

I'm not going to ditch a 3 months old great phone for a very similar one, that's for sure: I just hope U12+ ROMs or at least software features (see edge sense 2 or HDR10 support, in example, or Android P should HTC forget about us) will be easily ported to our devices by HTC itself or by some kind XDA developer, both being so similar spec-wise.

Please use a better translator, because I can't understand what you are saying. By the way how is age relevant here being a kid or a grown man doesn't matter, from your writing standards it seems you are indeed a "small kid" .
When you are paying a flagship price you should expect a flagship device treatment at the least!
I don't want to argue further because it's a waste of my time, what I stated earlier are valid points so unless you have something to counter those points I suggest you move on. If you don't understand why updates are needed then I am sorry there is nothing further I can say to change your mind.

Personally when i brought the u11+ i knew htc wouldnt be as good as other providers. They did just sell half their already cut down phone team to google. Its a matter of resource. If HTC have thrown all their software team into android 9 and the cost of android 8.1 that is fine by me. Assuming 9 comes out at a decent time compared to other providers.

Let's hope HTC will keep their good track at releasing major updates for flagship phones then!

That's a good thing IMO, since I bought the U11+ for the great cameras.
Hope HTC keeps up with their good work building practical and high quality phones. I am looking forward to changing to another HTC flagship next year.

Panel of u12+ is very close to u11+.
Here an example from hamdir, and btw the u11+ face looks better

Dj ignorance, you seriously have issues.
Ignore this guy, his people feed on anger, ignorance and useless online fights to feel manly.
HTC proved they can make the best hardware hands down the U11 PLUS is amazing but, Not getting any updates while even note Fe and s7 from almost 3 years for example gets the latest Samsung experience is really frustrating

It would be kernel related not rom, tbalden perhaps? ?

Hi guys, since I don't have an U11/U11+, to be honest I never even had a HTC, I'm pretty interested in this device. How is the bootloader unlocking procedure with HTC devices? Is there just the official method through HTCdev or is there any other unofficial method (exploits)? Last time I fiddled with custom ROMs was with my Nexus 5. I had some tries with an Axon 7, that resulted in two RMA trips. I'm about to renew my contract and want a new device. Right now I'm between S9+, OP6 and U12+.

What about warranty? I read somewhere that, here in Europe, they cannot deny me warranty service when it's software related. Is it true?
The main issue holding me from buying a S9+ in that pesky knox e-fuse! As long as I can roll back to factory configuration without flags for me is essential!
P.s.: Thanks for the reply

If you have problems, even with unlocked bootloader, which has nothing to do with unlocking/rooting/modifying, then it should be no problem.
Warranty is no problem here, at least not in Germany

What worries me is that it's needed to register to HTCdev to unlock the bootloader, right? And they could use this information to deny warranty services

Originaly targetted for begining of 2016 but since there are no news since then I would assume the answer is Never!
I am in the same struggle and I made the mistake to purchase it few months ago.
Hi guys
I contacted HTC customer support asking them when the HTC ME would receive the promised Marshmallow update. They replied saying that there are no more upgrades planned for this device. So seems like we are stuck on Lollipop forever. I am terribly disappointed in HTC. It is an unethical company which doesn't seem to be able to keep its promises. No wonder they are doing so poorly in their market shares globally and trailing behind the competition. I am definitely not buying any more HTC devices. And this comes from a loyal customer who has been using HTC phones all his life. But I guess it serves them right. A company that cannot keep its loyal customers is bound to doom.

Android P Beta without HTC

Can please somebody explain this? Android P Beta with oppo, Essential, and and and without HTC? Am I missing something?
Without Security Updates since 5 Months.
Flagship Phone U11+ still with Android 8.0 without any update and now Android Beta without HTC
In my opinion there is no bigger hater than a disappointed and deluded fan.
U12+ can be double so good as the U11+ ...but HTC will not have my money
You must wait HTC U12 recieve Android P first.
i'm agree, i dont know how HTC could create a great device with a ****ing poor screen brightnes like a U11+ and now we are out of the android P as well ??
Mister HTC's i'll give you a free advice !!, dont make a lot HTC U12+, because surely them coming with a **** poor screen and really **** android updates, so we aren't stupids to pay again for a incomplete product, dont matter how great could be the U12+ this time you really pis off us !!!!
By the way !!..we are still waiting for update to enable HDR screen !!

Why? Why Xperia XZ2 has already took part to Android P beta? Why Nokia do monthly updates and HTC no?
I wad literally saying this same thing yesterday. HTC dropped the ball and lost a great chances at client retention and publicity. Nokia however, did great and essential.

They seem to not care anymore. Sick of such awesome products that are hrc devices be castrated by mediocre management.
So let's start
Sharing IMEI will help. I will give it a week then msg them
To be honest if you contact HTC about the lack of updates they will ask for your imei anyway. They did me the other week, and still said my phone was up to date. Not sure what else you're expecting? I won't be giving my imei as its a security risk, but good luck with getting anywhere with HTC.

I think most of us are disappointed, i for one will never buy an HTC device again no matter how great it is unless it's a Pixel.
Now one explanation could be for why we are left out from the list of devices you mentioned is because until now HTC hasn't confirmed whether our device supports project Treble moving forward. In theory our device should support it, but it looks like HTC doesn't care about U11+ and instead is solely focusing on the coming U12+.

Yes. Agree. But HTC U11+ is still the Flagship phone!! Damn.
I can understand that HTC is focused on the U12+ but the U11+ was mostly bought by old date supporters and fans. With this behavior HTC is going to sell even less units of U12+. I am the first one not going to buy the U12+. For the first time after 8 year I will skip the phone, even if will be absolutely amazing. I am gonna do that as revenge for this behavior of HTC
Back to your comments HTC U11+ in theory supports:
- HDR
- Project Treble
-Monthly Updates
Practically they release a phone with just one major update and Monthly Updates stuck on December 2017.
Are the Management at HtC thinking that with Edge Sense 2.0 ( No phisically and no soft buttons...) They are going to sell planty of U12+? Good Luck
I can imagine to buy again an HTC phone only if is going to be a Google Made Pixel.

HTC have no money to spend on niche product like U11+. They are folding down the company and realigning resources to focus on VR. Phone business is probably a spin off project now.
Glad to see that Google finally stepped in to sort out updates problem as it's been going for a while and the matter look pathetic. Don't think above applies to HTC though.
U11+ supports treble. It's just that nothing gets pushed to make any use of it. Again, resource and money are the constraint.
The u11 is the flagship of 2017, the u11+ is just a refined one, which is not used as a flagship by HTC. The press just made it a flagship, which is not true. It will get updates soon again, but first they focus on the new HTC release and final software improvements, then the older devices wl have some love again. HTC needed to cut and change stuff inside their company, so that's no wonder they can't focus properly on a new device and properly at the same time on older.

Some questions about U12+ before making a switch

I currently own an iPhone X but I feel like iOS 11 is garbage in lots of aspects compared to it's predecessors and also notch is annoying when watching movies.. I've used to own Samsung S/Note phones but I am done with their laggy TouchWiz/Samsung Experience UI. That said, U12+ looks like a phone worth giving a shot. I like to take videos and photos with my phone so camera plays an important role. Is it good? Does it have any major overheating issues? Second thing - how does HTC deal with updates? Can I count on receiving security updates in 1-2 months or they don't really care much? The last thing is battery - I currently get to around 4,5h SoT with my iPhone, any chance HTC performs the same or better? I will be grateful for any responses before I spend my money

Let me try to answer some of your questions:
1. Camera: It has the best Camera right after the P20 Pro. So you should be all set here, and gain great results from it.
2. Overheating: It is on the release software 1.15.401.4 getting warmer, but not that hot, from time to time, due to some improvement on clocking of the CPU that are necessary. This has been dealt with and an update is currently starting to roll out and address such issues.
3. Updates: It has been an up and down during the last years to be honest. But HTC finally established so called QMRs (Quaterly Maintenance Releases) for the U12+ as well the U11. As I write the OTA is imminent to roll out to all variants now. The may jump an QMR if there are no security patches by Google that explicitly adress their very devices. To understand the often misguided discussion about that very topic you might make yourself familiar with the Google Security Bulletin, and what it tells you.
4. SoT: I always get 5 - 7h SoT with battery holding up for 24h. I'm quite pleased by those results imho.

Hi!
So I own iPhone X from about 2 months, and I owned iPhone from the first iPhone 2G! ... anyway I don't like anymore iOS , especially the iOS 11
Anyway:
1) HTC u12+ is a fast and fluid phone, I can say that is smoother than iPhone x
2) Photo and Video are better than iPhone x, the autofocus is fast, the colour are correct and the final image is amazing, in many ways better than pixel 2xl that it is a monster camera phone.
3) no major overheating issues.. somethimes under the sun at 35 Celsius can happen a little bit warm but not in a normal day
4) htc is fast to update to every new mayor release of android, until now the secure patch was slow but it seems that is changed now (read up)
5) battery is good but i think will be better with the new upcoming update (and better than iPhone x)
6) I can say only this.. the phone is very good: remember only that is a little bigger than iPhone x, and the screen is more accurate in color than iPhone x but is less brighter so if you work outside all the day maybe is not the best choice for you, if you work in a office or you don't stay all day under the sun is great
ciao !
Get iOS 12 betas a try?
It's been getting some serious good points for a beta compared to iOS 11.
Also if it managed to hold you off until September when it's finalized. The U12 will.be cheaper with HTC discounts or mint condition used phones on resale sites.
By then you'll have more information on the fall phone releases.

You ever happened to check security with SnoopSnitch, as it would show that the U11 is still secure. And did you ever check the Google Security Bulletin, if there are updates affecting HTC, or if not. This update discussion is absolutely unnecessary, due to the fact that the Patch Level is only half of the truth and information. But nobody cares to take in all information needed. You neither guessing by you post.

he talked about the major android updates and yes, HTC updates phones fast, when switching from let's say nougat to Oreo, or in the case soon from Oreo to P
also from where did you get the device? if it's from EMEA, then it's normal you might face issues with language, since you got a 128gb version, which is not available in Germany

I really feel a litte bit like an beta tester -normaly Android is spread in all languages, and (as I'm an IT guy) I kow that there are compairing tools -is somethig have an gap -you will noticed.
And I really like HTC -I buy it since 2002 -16 Years! At least2 device, for me and my wife, additional for work and employees -let's say roundabout 4 devices at 16 years -that will be 64 at a minimum -plus all I have to support from my family and fried which I have recommended to friend and customer. Round it up to 150, beginning from Typhoo, Feeler and the whole spectrum.
It makes a litle bit sad if you always try to buy Flagships and waiting for updates. My Samsung A5, a really low cost Device says in weeks, not moths, there are Updates. :|
And as I'm IT Professional -better then Antivirus and other just cobble things which are just follow vulnerabiles is to get a Patch for it. I have the problem that I get annoyed fram Ads -and I just have some Apps installen, no games, no bull**** -mostly buyed full versions. And "tap and hold" to see which process the Ad cause doe not work -they find a new way to cover it. :/
Patches really elp, in special he great december Update from Android AFAIR...
Is it really to much to expect to get more then one or two updates after paying 700+ Euro, and can read all menue?

When are we getting Pie?

HTC said they will let us know soon about dates when Pie will be released but it's been forever ago.
Also is the U12 xda scene dead or HTC themselves dead? I know the way the U12 handles everything, it's tough to makes roms for it etc. Or maybe not many really bothered to even buy the phone because HTC is just not doing well. HTC needs to fix themselves. Get with the norm. Bessless phones, wireless charging etc. Make a phone that blows every other phone out the water with fantastic marketing and they'll get back to the top.
Marketing isn't going to happen. Did you even compare how much money HTC owns, with how expensive global marketing is. Obviously not, cause we got to accept the fact, that marketing isn't an option for HTC to grow.

Funny how the discussions aremore lively in the U11 area. Anyhow, I saw a great deal on a u12+ today and despite hunting for an s9+ 256gb Duos, I was tempted and then ran here to verify if it got Pie. Shocking that it has not, which means more than likely my u11 is OOL with the last update having been made in Dec 2017.
The apparent thing is that HTC is contacting its smartphone business and its Asian models- its core market- are being ignored for updates, so that tells me everything.
If the current U12 isn't being updated, then the u11 is out, and I am onto Samsung. I can wait until the s10 is announced, then s9 prices will fall. Same for the u12 128. I like the Edge and the cameras. They keep me connected to the phone, but security and future support seems to have been ended.

I think there are two versions of the U11 Life, one with Android One (which has already been update), and one with stock Sense (which has not).
For those bashing people about being unreasonable about expectations for security and software updates, HTC has a binding Federal Trade Commission settlement due to past issues in providing security updates. The FTC also performs inspections of the company every two years as part of the settlement.
https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/pre...-ftc-charges-it-failed-secure-millions-mobile
My guess is that if HTC is violating this judgement, the smartphone division is in trouble or maybe it's planning to pull out of the US at a minimum. Since there's a judgement, if you're in the US, you could contact the FTC to see if there is current compliance with the settlement terms.
Have any of you seen some of the complaints about Pie? I'm not so sure I'm in an all fired hurry to get it and I am one that is usually chomping at the bit for the latest OS update. It also seems that the issue with our delay is Sense. I don't know much about the Life versions of the U11 and the U12 but I'm guessing they don't have the same version of Sense or any Sense. I'm just guessing here because from what I've been seeing from people testing beta versions and some that have the full version it doesn't play nice with launchers.

A new update is coming, but not Pie.
An update, any update is taking entirely too long

For the 500th time: Android OS updates and sexurity updates are separate, with HTC delinquent on the latter, coupling them to former. This is why people are upset. The security updates are actually mandatory for HTC's compliance with a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission in the US and why we bexame accustomed to them being on top of things. Lack of compliance with the settlement is indicating the company is not going in a good direction.
Again: OS updates and security updates are not the same thing and people want both, often calling for the former in order to get the latter.
I Think The King is over and HTC on end of way.......i buy htc device from hd2 to this u11+ and u12+ but i think we should search for other king for use
I dropped my U11 a few days ago and looked around for a different brands but just couldn't cut the apron strings with HTC so bought a U12+. Love it so far but i'm pretty sure this purely familiarity on my part as there are some cracking phones around for less right now but the update situation, both security & pie is dismal especially with no comm's from htc itsself, that's just sloppy & extremely bad form...

I was just saying in another thread that the UI, namely Sense, was a key factor in my picking this device. The specs aren't bad either and the look was the talk of the town, not that it influenced me as much as the substance of the device, but it darn sure didn't hurt.

I'd love to hear from other HTC fans like me what their thoughts are on the next device. Honestly I'm kind of stumped on this one and given great pause at the thought of leaving. I've had some sour experiences with Moto and Sammy but that was back in the flip phone days. That Sony phone awhile back looked pretty good until I read about its custom UI. Huawei has some interesting devices and with HTC I never had to consider screen notches. Motos and their battery life issues, not that HTC always got it right. Sammys have a lot of features, some are even pretty cool, eye tracking for screen scroll, blink gestures but... Anyone really got any strong hopefuls?

HTC , Android 9 pie update status (finally)

Hello guys ,
Eventually the date of the update was clear. Congratulations for HTC. I had hoped to get the Android Q update.
https://www.facebook.com/101063233083/posts/10159086719528084/
We want to share the release schedule of the Android Pie updates for #HTC smartphones. Please note, certain regions & carrier deployment may affect these dates. U11 rollout will begin late May, 2019; U11+ will begin late June, 2019; U12+ will begin mid-June, 2019. Thank you.

Hello guys ,
Yesterday on Facebook shared the post about the update status on HTC official page. But after 5 minutes they wiped. I copied this post.
We wanted to share with you the status on the Android 9 update.
HTC is currently working on ensuring the update is compatible with our phones and we anticipate a release to customers of U12+ and U11+ models starting Q2 of 2019.
Please note, the exact timing defers to the mobile operators' availabilities in different countries.
What do you think about this?

Not really sure but the news today said that HTC is now negotiating with some companies in India for selling their brand. If so, it is no ground to post that message in the FB.
I do really hope my U11+ can get pie.
Only problem with that statement for UK anyway, the U11+ was only available from HTC direct. So mobile operators would have no input or changes to make. We've all been waiting long enough now they really should be releasing information.

Back in February, we wrote about the disappearance of the HTC Mail app from the Play Store, but it was quickly restored. More recently, we received a tip about the Sense Home launcher also vanishing, but closer inspection shows that a total of 14 HTC apps have been unpublished in the last three months.
Looking at the latest HTC Corporation activity in App Brain, we can see that the Sense Home launcher and contacts app People were unpublished just this month. 12 more apps, including Calendar, Dot View, and Speak suffered a similar fate in February, while the Mail app that went and then returned is once again conspicuous by its absence.

What can we except form HTC? Are they dead? New skin? RIP HTC?
Potentially dead. The Pie update is very late now. They seem to be moving away from phones too. I have a feeling we may not get Pie as HTC concentrates it's resources else where. This is the first HTC phone I've been truly disappointed with and will certainly be my last. Already looking to one+ for my next phone.

Reach out to HTC and ask them for the source code, easy to build a pie/q rom and even keep up community support long after.
Sent from my HTC U11 plus using Tapatalk
HTC don't pay me to do that though do they? If you bought a laptop and Asus or Apple chucked you a CD and said, you're getting no updates so there's the source code, fix any driver compatibility issues, flaws in the programming or security breaches yourself would you be happy with that?
I've paid them for a phone on the understanding I'd get HDR and Android updates. It took almost a year to fix the notification bug they created and they have pushed zero security patches other than those included with an update.

Yep, how truly i still hope it will get better honestly i am loosing my hopes i had. I've been using HTC phone even when they were creating phones under the name Qtek. Always stood by them and was always an enthusiastic supporter but i truly - with so much pain - believe it will only get worse in support. Although phones still rock this baby will almost certainly be my last HTC phone where presumably i too will be moving over towards OnePlus..
It is really sad but perhaps better, since I don't think any brand really can survive against the money Apple and Samsung are spending to buy customers.. i hope they will survive with VR..
I've been with HTC since the Touch HD so not as long as you. Back then they were innovators. The HD2 showed a phone could run two os and then we had the m7 with ultra pixel camera ( although the pink tint issue was a big problem) and the m8 led the way again with camera tech.
HTC promised updates within 90 days when they initially streamlined the amount of phones they were going to produce and now present day with no updates, finally a post stating there will be updates beginning Q2 and then nothing...
They can't completely blame it on carriers as the U11+ in Europe at least was a HTC direct phone. So where's the update? No where close is my guess. It seems they just string us along in the hope we get bored.
I don't agree that companies can't compete with apple and Samsung. There's plenty of smaller manufacturers doing a better job than HTC and in that sense HTC deserves everything it gets for failing it's customers.

True, although it didn't succeed both Sony and LG where perhaps LG still has a position, but Sony left the battlefield quite quietly its a pitty and indeed was so much fun with the HD2 and M7. Both i still have and both still work where the HD2 is running MM. Had it even with Windows Phone 7 running.. ahh what the heck, OnePlus 7 pro looks great, so perhaps a worthy replacement.. presentation is 14th May apparently.
The only thing putting me off the oneplus 7 pro is the pop up selfie camera. Not sure how I feel about it. Other than that it seems a decent spec from the leaks we've had. Not long to wait though and with nothing forthcoming on the HTC update front looks like I may jump ship before it gets pushed. This has been by far the worst experience I've had with a phone provider and I can't recall ever wanting to get rid of a phone as quick as this one.
Sent from my HTC U11 plus using Tapatalk
I'd say that an absolute lack of any info - not a single leak - about their next phone is a pretty good indication that they're out of the smartphone business. And therefore lack of the update is also highly likely, though... even if they sold off their smartphone department the new owner might conduct it (if the code is already more or less created) for the sake of keeping the image.
Anyway, that's for 99% also my last - though only second... - HTC, even though that's a nearly perfect phone for me and I don't care much for updates (especially with those newer Androids that seem to differ less and less). Why then? Well, last time when I was that satisfied with a phone - with my previous One M7 - I kept using it for over 4 years, and would likely continue if it wasn't for the battery. Now I've had the U11+ for over 1 year - and I don't think there'll be any new HTCs in 2022. Sad, as I can't see a proper alternative right now, so I have to hope for something really new.

Sadly HTC use mushroom communications at best these days
Sorry guys, HTC had been disappointing with support and updates. I have to ditch U11+.
Personally I think HTC had ditches us the loyal supported without providing any security patches since 2017. This make us all expose to all kind of vulnerability possible, too bad.
I am wishing those that still think that HTC has a chance coming back, good luck guys.
I don't think anyone is under any illusion as to what's going to happen. Android Q is already in beta testing for about 13 manufacturers and HTC can't even release Android Pie. Once I've found a new phone I like I will be jumping this sinking ship.

Wait for "Late June"
Finally! The update will come. It would be nice if it actually comes from Android Q. Waiting for Pie to come after Q
Definitely won't come with Q, and a pretty poor show from HTC. Probably being the last to roll out Pie when they used to say updates within 90 days.

Pie update in Taiwan, soft bricking some devices https://www.droid-life.com/2019/06/05/htc-pulls-pie-update-for-u11/
Brilliant HTC are far behind everyone else in releasing Pie and when they do release it, it screws up some phones. Very generous of HTC offering to fix phones borked my their own mistake. I mean really! That's the least they should be doing.
