Hi I've tried using several NXT-L29 Nougat roms but they all fail
Notes:
- My device is not rooted and I can't root because several business apps I use won't run on rooted phones (banking, etc)
- If the OTA update for this ROM is available in the next month I don't mind waiting.
- I've successfully updated my ROM twice before by putting an update.app in the dload folder on my SD Card
- I don't care if I have to restore my phone from a backup and lose my data
- I've tried downloading several NX-L29 and NXT-L29 Nougat firmware and none of them have worked.
- I tried unlocking my bootloader using several methods (including paid ones) and was unsuccessful
I'm only after an official stock firmware and would like to just copy the update.app to a dload folder on my sd card to update unless there is another safe method.
I suspect I'm just using the wrong ROMs or perhaps missing a step.
Can anyone point me to which ROM I should use or give me any tips on how to get around the problems I'm having?
You and update via UPDATE. APP
I'm in the same boat as well...
I want to upgrade but don't want to root.
I am tempted to use firmware finder to load it across and install it via the system updater...
I thought the official update would be released by q1 2017 so the end of March....

I tried using DC Unlocker, but it wouldn't give me the code I needed to unlock. I only have Windows 10 Enterprise/pro machines and tried on several but no go.
Vendor: hw
Country: spcseas (Malaysia I believe)
I don't mind using TWRP, but as I mentioned, I can't unlock the bootloader. I spent several hours trying this.
Widows 10 also working i have the same as you
When u connect to dc , choose factory mod
Don't operate usb debugging function

I downloaded an udate usg a firmware download app. It did update my device, but bluetooth isn't working and it gives an error when booting. I'm trying to now wipe it and start from scratch by unlocking the boot loader and using twrp.
Whats the best Nougat ROM to use and where can I get it? I tried downloading my old ROM do downgrade but couldn't find it anywhere and I have so many roms I've tried they all got mixed up and I don't know which one to use.. I'd go back to B320 if I could, but would prefer to move forward with a stable, compatible version of Nougat. Any suggestions on which ROM to try and where to get it?
Which rom ur phone now working on
I Have a Huawei mate 8 NXT-L29C185B190. Couple of months ago I rooted my android. With TWRP and unlocked bootloader. I by mistake formated my phone with TWRP and then all my data including the Huawei mate 8 themes and icons were gone. The icons were like the older versions of android(messed up). Just a minute ago I got an OTA update. So I removed my root by SuperSU and then tried to update it. But then it redirected me to TWRP. I didn't what to do so I rebooted the device. What should I do to install the update and get stock version? (The update is not installed)
SRK Tool

Before trying to update you might want to fix the problems of your device, get SRK Tool, root your device, then go to utilities and flash the HW Init folder, that should solve the themes and the icons problem, then flash stock recovery and then get and flash
L29 C185 B190 through the Dload method, only after doing all this you should take the OTA without issues (dont worry when you doad L29 C185 B190 root is lost).
You could also try to only flash stock recovery (using SRK Tool) and take the OTA but very much likely the theme and icons problem will still be there, if the OTA update works that is.

Its just that I am really scared that my phone may hardbrick. I looked on XDA Developers for this stock firmware but found it on another website. But the thing is that I'm scared if that websites porvides false information

The HW_Init folder contains the folder structure needed so the themes can be applied, it also contains the default themes which are lost when you format Data from TWRP, its a quick fix and the SRK Tool makes it easier for you.

Ok, I rooted my phone(Huawei mate 8 NXT-L29C185B190)(L29B) using the SRK tool before and I did it again. So for the hw init folders I should check it on the internet right? Do u know how to flash it?

Open the tool (SRK tool) then select the option 7-Utility then select option 12 and then 1(mate 8), once the process started be aware of your devices screen, it should ask for root permission for an ADB shell and you have to grant access otherwise it wont work but dont worry you can try manytimes untill you get it right, your phone wont explode o anything like that If all went well , youll be asked to press any key at the end to reboot your phone, after reboot you should be able to apply themes and icons like usual.
About the firmware, this is the link where its being downloaded: http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=91645&version=357954&siteCode=pk, seems like its directly from huawei server, you could download it to your PC and explore it with firmware extractor or you could just flash it throught the dload method, if is not right for your phone it doesnt flash it.

The firmware is legit! its straight from huawei, if you download it and extract it you will see a manual from huawei telling about the update and whatnot, its safe to push through Dload.
Your welcome and good luck!
Oh thanks man just one last question before the start the process. So ehen you flash the stock firmware won't the stock recovery automatically be applied and if not is it necessary to flash stock recovery first then flash stock firmware? And theabove firmware link which u put, idit the firmware for NXT-L29C185B190 ( THE 64 GB 4 GB RAM MOCHA BROWN)
And I also heard if it is not the right version for your phone it can hardbrick it that why I am just making sure about the firmware. And when before I flash my firmware should is it need to factory reset the phone
Your welcome.

For the dload method you dont need the stock recovery, I have just learned that the E recovery its always inside the Mate 8 eventhough you have a custom recovery, so you just need to place the update app inside a folder called dload, the folder should be on you external SD card, then what you do is turn off your device and then press and hold volume up, volume down and the power button at the same time until you see a screen telling you that is checking the firmware, if the firmware is correct then E recovery will do its thing and flash the firmware, the stock recovery will be included, you will loose root and the bootloader will close again.
Or you could flash stock recovery just to be safe and then do the upgrade process (dload), you can do that with the SRK Tool, just be sure to install a stock recovery acording to your version of EMUI.
About the firmware, I cant say, I do no own that variant, thats for you to find out, google is your friend!
About bricking, you can only do that if you downgrade the wrong way or if you flash an incremental OTA file incorrectly and even then theres many ways and tools to bring the mate 8 back to life.
My advice is that if you are goin to be messing up with your device, always do it whith an open booltoader, always back up your base firmware right after opening bootloader, back up your cust, oem info and custom bin and always check that developer options are enabled and that Enable OEM unlock and USB debuggin optiond are enabled as well.

Hi everyone.
I am facing a LOT of troubles with my phone (as stated in this thread).
Anyway now I have again unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP 3.1.1, rooted but I have a strange ROM installed by a service tech shop after the phone became unusable.
The problem is that this ROM does not show an update option in settings so I am stuck at 1st march security patches.
Here attached my actual Build Prop file.
The ROM seems to be a BLN-L21C900B300 (never heard of this and not even found on Firmware Finder) and the fingerprints show a "test keys" rom:
device: HWBLN-H
Display: BLN-L21C900B300
Fingerprint: Huawei/generic_a15/generic_a15:7.0/NRD90M/jslave04010520/:user/test keys
If I try to flash via TWRP a BLN-L21C432B360 (which was my previous stock ROM) it does not work and on TWRP appears the following:
......
write radio image
check_write_data_to_partition
write data error
E; unknown command (errno)
update_huawei_pkg_from_ota_zip: update package from zip failed
updater process ended with ERROR: 7
error installing zip file '/external_sd/update_full_BLN-L21_hw_eu_zip'
I cannot flash the FULL zip file with the core of the ROM but I can luckily flash the data, so I could get back Radio Fm and possibility to install themes....
To make the story short: is there someone who knows what this error is? Maybe I can get a solution.
Moreover: maybe this strange "device: HWBLN-H Display: BLN-L21C900B300 Fingerprint: Huawei/generic_a15/generic_a15:7.0/NRD90M/jslave04010520/:user/test keys" is preventing me to flash?
Changing build prop file can be useful?
Thanks to all.

I forgot to mention: dload not working. Always error.
That's why I think TWRP is the only solution
B300 (at least for the BLN-L24) is the first of two update packages to rollback from Nougat to MM. The first update will take you from the latest firmware to B300 and then the second update will complete the rollback to your device's stock firmware.
dload this package to complete the rollback then do a factory reset and wipe cache partition in stock recovery. After that download and update to the latest firmware and proceed to unlock BL and flash twrp and you should be good to go.

but you mean that I have to downgrade from Nougat to MM again?
And before doing it I have to flash the stock recovery?
My phone was, we can say, flashed in some way by the tech shop to this strange version of Nougat and with the "test keys" fingertips.
With the files you provide I should "dload"?
I do not understand your post.

Download the zip I linked above from Huawei website. Extract the update.app and put it in dload folder on your external SD card and force flash (power vol - vol +). It will flash all the stock images and return your phone to factory firmware android 6.0 EMUI 4.1. It might bootloop after this but booting into stock recovery (power vol +) and perform factory reset followed by wipe cache partition will get you booting. Then you can OTA update to latest firmware and root again.
Well, I will try this weekend. Now the risk to stay without phone during working days is too high
Ah, BTW, thanks for suggestion.

Since you have nothing to lose right now just try the whole rollback process. Here is the update that the service center used to get your phone to BLN-L21C900B300. You can try flashing that again through dload or skip to trying to flash this. There are two different firmwares listed as the 2nd part of the rollback and you already said the last one I gave you failed so give this one a shot. Let me know how it works out for you:good:

Have you tried the Team MT huawei multitool to flash the images from the firmware? Use the Huawei update extractor tool to get the boot, cust, recovery, system and userdata.img from the firmware you tried to flash and then put them in the unbrick folder in the multi tool. Put phone in fastboot and run the Multi tool and use the unbrick option. I know your phone is not bricked but this way it will flash all 5 images in order through fastboot. You could actually try and flash the most current firmware with this method and avoid having to system update from MM to Nougat.
yes, exactly, I am trying with multitool . another bro suggested me how to do it even if with a slightly different method.
"You need flash the oeminfo via multi tool and then same firmware file for your current version via dload. It should be fixed".
WTF....never sweat so much for a phone. And never had those problems flashing samsung... and I was flashaholic
Yes, I have learned so much about this phone and the flashing/brick/unbrick process in the last 2 weeks.

When I go to multitool "unbrick", it asks for custom.img, but in no update.app of my firmware is present.
Moreover now I just can enter erecovery. It does not boot. I can enter fastboot only. Multitool is now not recognizing the phone. Do you know how to proceed?
I put in dload the firmware .app, but it says "software install failed"
Pheew...I managed to have again that fuc..ng C900B300.
I entered fastboot and repeated the unlock bootloader process. That way the phone got a hard reset and started over. Believe me when I say I tried all the methods I knew.
I think there is something locked somewhere in my partitions (I am not an expert of course) that prevent me to do deep modifications. Now I just can TWRP data but not the core. And again I have no update option. I think I am stuck forever at this stage with 1st march patches and nougat 7.0.
I do not think I will be ever able to have Oreo.
Amen. I am really tired to waste my time with this s**t. Next phone will be again a Samsung or One+. Full stop. Stop chinese brands.
Where are you located, Europe?
Yes
Ok bro I really hope this is it. Full firmware BLN-L21C432B151. I already downloaded it myself and checked with extractor tool it has all the images you need. Since you have fastboot back use the multi tool unbrick again and now that you have all the necessary images cross your fingers it will work.
And I agree with you about the phone. Made up my mind im giving this turd to my sister and getting the OP5T in a few weeks.
Thanks. I will do it this weekend. Today I spent 5 hours to get back my configuration after the hard reset with the apps I use for work. Cannot risk again tomorrow.
In another thread, sashank suggested to change OEM file because probably phone doesn't recognize the firmware I want to install.
It didn't work and lead me to start from scratch with the same strange build.
I will try your method but first I must study better the procedure because I don't want to mess up everything and risking to throw the phone in the garbage (where it belongs in the end...).
Thanks.
Hello.
I need a help with my Honor 8, it's been bricked and I honestly don't know if there is much to do in my current situation.
So the phone has locked bootloader and stock recovery.
Fastboot always returns 'Command not allowed'
What exactly happened:
I was running Stock ROM, rooted, TWRP Recovery with unlocked bootloader.
An official OTA update popped-up on my phone, I was in a rush and I missclicked (don't even ask lol) and the update started installing, I knew I'm screwed.
So I was about to play with fastboot, but it always returned 'Command not allowed'.
And probably the worst mistake happened a few minutes ago (6:00 am trying to fix it half a sleep), I was reading some posts about the dload method, >>FASTFORWARD I installed an official update using the dload method and locked my bootloader by doing this.
QUICK SUMMARY:
So I'm stuck on a bootloop.
The 3 button combo works.
Stock Recovery works as well.
Fastboot does NOT work. (I tried flashing, unlocking, temp-booting.. but nothing)
adb always returns error:
Code:
device unauthorized.
This adb server's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.
Is there ANYTHING I can do in my current situation? :crying:
Thanks in advance for any help.
Have a nice day.
Hello, as long as you have an official recovery, a proper BOOT.IMG and the dload method is working there is still a chance( i hope), the only thing you need to know is that if the firmware is the wrong for your phone it will deny it. It means that is if you try to install an android 6.0 based stock ROM over a 7.0 ROM , it will say software upgrade failed or something like that.
You need to know under which Android version you were and install the same or maybe a more recent one but not to far away from your actual ROM, try the next one. You can also try to downgrade USING a rollback package that you can download on honor official site. Make sure that's the the correct file for your phone.
Hope you'll make it bro, let me know how the situation evolve
(sorry for any language mistake, english isn't my native language.)

Woohoo, after a few tries & factory resets I was able to boot my phone again using the dload method :victory: The TWRP recovery has vanished and it seems like there is no sign of root(?) either, I'm gonna redo everything again, thanks so much for your help, you saved me bro <3 Have a wonderful day.

Try to flash the rollback package and then an EMUI 4.x ROM. They're both available on honor official site

Hi Ryan,
Thank you so much for responding.
I could see two ROM in the official site http://www.hihonor.com/in/support/
HONOR 8 Firmware (FRD-L02, C675B130CUSTC675D002, India)
HONOR 8 Firmware (FRD-L02, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1, C675B160, India Channel)
I tried with both the ROMs but no luck
I placed the update.APP file inside sdcard but the update stops at 5% showing that it has failed.
I also tried flashing the recovery.IMG in fastboot mode.
I have lost all the hopes in my new phone
In the rescue mode it says UNLOCKED.
Please guide me with some detailed steps.
Thanks
Flash the stock recovery of the ROM that was previously installed on your phone , then with dload method flash the rollback package downloaded from honor site , and finally flash one of the two ROM, it may resolve your issue because the phone won't accept a lower firmware without flashing the rollback package first. As long as you can use dload method it should be fine.
If it doesn't work try to flash boot.img , recovery.img, cust.img, vendor.img and system.img extracted from a clean firmware downloaded on honor official site
Let us know how the situation evolve
I've somehow bricked my 6X.
I have an EU version successfully debranded to India variant BLN-L22 and upgraded to EMUI 8.0, unencrypted and rooted with Magisk.
Something went wrong during the flash of AEX for hi6250 devices (which is reported to be 6X compatible ): I was mainly stuck in a bootloop except for two times when the phone booted, but internal storage wasn't recognized properly (in settings I was able to see the correct percentage of available space but in default file manager I wasn't able to access it and also downloading files to internal storage was impossible, as if my it was full - which isn't true since I was able to move file there through TWRP file manager).
At that point I was pretty pissed, I've forced fastboot and used update.bat to flash stock Oreo again and here things screwed up.
I took a full TWRP backup before experimenting with AEX and copied it to my pc; I'm able to push it to internal storage through adb, but then TWRP isn't able to restore it, dunno why.
My phone is in these condition now:
fastboot is available, commands from pc are working here
bootloader is unlocked
FRP is unlocked
I have a working TWRP recovery (askuccio 3.2.3) which I can access and use; I'm able to replace it with Elemental 3.2.1, with the one provided in the "update.bat" thread (which is another 3.2.1 version) or with stock recovery
if I replace TWRP with stock recovery and boot into it, it shows the update screen and it freeze at 5%, then reboot; no factory reset option there
when I'm into TWRP I can push files from pc to internal memory through adb
pretty sure my phone is still decrypted, dunno if it's still rooted tho
eRecovery is gone
I have no idea how eRecovery gone missing since I never touched that partition; trying to flash ERECOVERY_RAMDISK.img through fastboot using "fastboot flash erecovery_ramdisk erecovery_ramdisk.img" which fails (remote: command not allowed) and "fastboot flash recovery2 erecovery_ramdisk.img" which fails (remote: partition length get error) as well as through Multi Tool (the size or path does not match the file system markup); if I try to boot into eRecovery I get error mode screen: Func NO : 11 (recovery image) Error No : 2 (load failed) and I have no idea how to try to restore it in another way (pretty sure all I need is to factory reset through it and then reflash the firmware for unbrick my phone).
Atm I've tried only Multi Tool: I can successfully flash everything in the unbrick section but it doesn't solve my problem (guess it's due to my missing eRecovery).
I still need to try Image Download method (which I would like to keep it as last resource since it requires to disassemble my device and since I have a working fastboot and TWRP), HuRu and dload (I don't have a micro SD big enough atm, only 2GB - dunno if it can can work from internal storage the same).
Thank you for any help.

I would say the safest option you have is to restore to Nougat via dloading the b340 image which you might have used for debranding. You should be able to restore easily.

How do I do that?
I mean, flash OEMINFO and Custom Bin and then dload method as per debranding guide or HWOTA7, since I'm on Oreo/Emui8 now?
You already debrnaded to Indian version and then updated to Oreo right?

Exactly. I was on BLN-L21 Nougat (EU), debranded to BLN-L22 (Indian) through fast method (flash oem and cust bin, dload, update through system update) and then upgraded to Oreo through HWOTA8_BLN - script method.
Multi Tool list my device as BLN-L22 8.0.0.510(C675).
Just dload b340 indian variant. You should be fine
I restored my device countless times with HuRUpdater, the best tool I used on Huawei devices. It always go fine, but a microSD of at least 3GB is required (files to flash are usually 2,70GB). Probably the device won't boot with stock recovery because as you pointed out, it needs to format first before booting since that you was decrypted. HuRUpdater needs to be executed from microSD because it flashes files from there to internal storage, so flashing from there isn't allowed due obvious reasons.
Looks like you'll need to dload, as my friend Shashank1320 said. You need to start again with a fully working system before going elsewhere and at the moment things look bad. The rest is always obtainable again (TWRP, ecc.)

dload doesn't work, I guess it's because I miss eRecovery.
If I hold vol+ vol- and power my phone boot into TWRP; I've tried replacing it with stock recovery but it freeze at 5%.
Any way to flash eRecovery from fastboot or as a zip from TWRP?
Gonna get a SD and for HuRu if I won't be able to solve it differently.
Edit: managed to boot into dload screen, but it states "software install failed".

That message is because the package you picked is wrong. What was your build number, BLNL22C636B510CUST..? (Don't remember if this is the build of first Indian Oreo build dated June/July 2018)

I'm not sure since I don't have my device at hand atm: yesterday I got a 16GB SD and tried with HuRU but without success (trying to flash the zip returned me an error with every version of the package), so I contacted the assistance since I still have some months of warranty. I've tried to restore it as stock as possible before handling them the phone so I hope they won't make me trouble and fix it
Anyway I've always used firmware provided by shashank, both to debrand to indian variant and to upgrade to Oreo, so you may recover build number from those threads for scientific purposes!

For me HuRUpdater never failed a shot, you just have to choose the correct build and rename the zips as per instructions in OP. Usually the zips are three, by the way. "BLN-L22HNC675CUSTC675D1B510 (8.0.0.510)" is the correct build number for Oreo India, if you use HuRU with the three zips included in this build the successful flash is guaranteed (done it personally many, many times).
Now, if you contacted assistance and you can take advantage of remaining months of warranty wait and see what they say. Good luck!
Reflash EMUI 8 with Hwota 8, but first wipe data partition with TWRP.

Wait: wiping /data with TWRP makes it visible through custom recoveries since that it removes encryption, but when you flash whole EMUI 8 on system stock recovery_ramdisk is reflashed on the recovery partition too, and it forces to reformat /data before booting because if not it'll say that OS is seriously corrupted bla bla bla... EMUI 8 doesn't have to run encrypted?
By the way HuRU is faster, easier and leaves bootloader unlocked.

Nope: don't get me wrong, but I'm here since 2012 and I'm pretty used to this kind of stuff.
I can assure you I haven't picked wrong packages nor any other noobish error: in fact I wouldn't even had to post here if I had encountered just some standard problem lol... my device wasn't fixable through usual ways, or else I would have been able to

Just heard back from assistance and they are waiting for a new motherboard since there was nothing to do, good to me I was still covered by warranty.
Now it would be nice to know what screwed up my device so bad, since I hadn't any problem till the flash of AEX for hi6250 devices (so 6X compatible) and even in the case it wasn't flashing a wrong rom has never fked up a motherboard in my experience, but whatever.
My only trouble is I'm pretty sure I won't be able to unlock bootloader when my phone will be back, now
Also, thank you to everyone who tried to help!
try this
i had issues also until i found this step by step, i named everything just as he has pictured and made sure to just add the .zips all 3 needed, got correct FW from FW finder and also be sure to put the actual HuRuUpdater.zip in the same folder with the FW files and name the parent folder just like the pic on post shows...poof working stock FW and did not relock my BL....Honor 8 FRD-L04 reverted from no OS to stock 7.0 on EMUI 5 https://www.getdroidtips.com/hurupdater-tool/#comment-109621
