can't open .sup file - MX Player

I found out in the changelog, mx player started supporting .sup file, so I just tried to open it with a streaming video, but it says "can't read this file. Please make sure that the file is a valid format."
In the log file, it says "subtitle too large". seems the sup file size is problem? it's 11.3MB.
want to attach the log file, but can't find any button or something for attachment. I feel really stupid

There might be a "Manage Attachment" button on the bottom. If you can't find, kindly upload it anywhere else (like dropbox, gdrive) & share the link here.

Hi,
The issue doesn't seem to be on MX Player. The current subtitle file size is limited to 20MB. It should absolutely work fine in your case.
Based on the logs, As directory listing is not enabled on the server, MX has tried to get the subtitles by replacing the video extension in the URL with popular subtitle extension (in your case Trust.S01E07.HDTV.x264-RBB.sub or Trust.S01E07.HDTV.x264-RBB.srt, etc). But, the server has always returned with the 376MB file (i.e video) which is too large for the subtitle. That's why it was not used. Just try to manually load the subtitle, it will work.

Thanks for the reply.
However that was the result I got when I loaded the .sup file manually. The video is a network stream and the .sup file is saved in my phone and I opened it by "subtitles - open" under the 3dot menu.

[Feature Request] SMB Share / Network Folders

Hello,
I have a few questions, I hope some one can answer them.
I would like to know if it is possible to set a video folder that is on a network or a web site. I have all my DVDs copied onto my server and would like to access them from my devices.
When I try to add a folder, via settings, it will not show me a network. If I go to Network stream I have to type in the complete url to the file its self for it to play.
Example: 13.125.44.133:4040/movies/61/video_ts/vts_01_1.vob
I would like to be able to see the directory with the list of folders that the movies are in and then select the folder and have the app play the movie.
Example:
Movies/
61
2012
After Earth
....
Maybe the only way to access to this folders its using a file explorer with the capabilities of accessing to network folders.
I was able to locate the file, like you suggested. I am using ES File Explore, it allowed me to save the path and also associate the vob files with MX Player. So now I have one more question. When I ripped my DVD's, they are just like on the DVD. There is 4 or 5 vob files numbered 1, 2, 3... When I select the first vob file and it plays to the end it goes back to the ES File Explore app and does not continue on to the second vob file. Is there a switch so that it will do this or will it just not do this?
MX Player currently has no built-in SMB share support. External apps like ES File Explorer only pass 1 file URI at a time to MX.
This has been previously requested before. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/nYpihpAVJq0/discussion
It's already on the feature requests list. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297
i see that there is a "back to list" i uncheck this and it went to the next file, seam to work.
Interesting, I didn't think that they would have changed so quickly to passing all the URIs in the folder. Well, good to see that you found a solution.
Related: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/bug-report-video-button-lan-mounted-t2967882
An amendment to what I said above; MX still doesn't receive all the URIs, but rather does predictive requests based on filename, as a quickfix to this issue.
I use ES file explorer to do this, you can 'save' the location as a shortcut to the desktop of your device (long press on the folder, select save to desktop)
There are currently a few bugs with this in the latest version which i have my own thread about, subtitles dont load and some videos require software playback to prevent audio going out of sync but it works and works well in general.
Anyone using this feature could tell me how it works when there are 2 files - video and subtitles?

If the directory listing is enabled on the host, MX Player can get the list of files. So, it will automatically load the subtitle as we. Else, MX Player will try to get the subtitle by assumption (by just replacing video extension with subtitle extensions). But, it doesn't work everywhere.
So, it's better to enable directory listing if you are using a local server.

[Q] File Name display incorectly in playback

I am using mainly MX player to watch videos on an Samsung S3 Galaxy Tab.
Videos are located on a smb shared drive on my network, and i select the file to read using a file browser app.
since sevral months, display of the file name looks like an encoded string (>200 random alphanumerical caracters) but i cannot see the real path/file name anymore.
is there a way to fix that?
Best regards

File Manager HD is transcoding file name to their own format which can't be recognized by other apps.
I recommend using other file browsers which does not change file name such as BubbleUPnP, ES Explorer, etc.

[Q] MX Not Detecting Files

HI!
I usually download all my torrents on mobile including my TV shows.Recently,I downloaded arrested development season 1,mkv file and was watching it using mx Pla:yer prowhen all of a sudden my mx player stopped detecting those videos. So now I have to use my file explorer then navigate to downloads and then finally select a file and click it.This ****'s irritating ,so could you guys give me your advice, since you people know more?
@rashadthegre check
Settings > List > Folders
And see if your download folder is in the list of folders to be searched by MX.

Hi,
MX Player can detect most files with default setting.
But there are still some devices not detecting all files unless adding folders manually.
It would be help for improving default setting if you send system log after refreshing video list.
Please make sure that log should be gather immediately after refreshing video list because it will be erased periodically.
Thanks

Some of your video folders contains a file named ".nomedia". It actually represents that there is no media content inside the folder. So, if you keep any videos inside that directory or any subdirectory, it will be ignored.
For example your download folder in internal memory & media folder on external memory has ".nomedia" files. That's why it's not getting listed.
Either you have to delete those files or alternatively you can force MX Player to scan the directories even if ".nomedia" file found (Goto Settings >> List & Disable "Recognise .nomedia". Then, Refresh the video list.

[Q] On Nexus 5x, file managers can't open with MX player.

... just to be clear with what you are saying, you are using a file browser app on Android, navigating to an SMB share, and when selecting a video on the SMB then MX is not offered as a playback option?
May want to first check your device app defaults then.
I'm having either the same issue or a similar one. Everything works fine on my Nexus 7, but this is a problem on my Nexus 5X. If I select files with certain extensions from network locations, MX Player is not listed in the "Open with" popup where you select the app you want to open the file with. Only Media Viewer and Podcast Addict are listed in this pop-up. Trying different file types out, MX Player is listed if I select an mpg or wmv file, but not avi and mp4. I'm selecting the file in an app that let's me browse files on my NAS. If I save the video locally on my phone, there is no problem when I select the local copy, MX Player is listed in the "Open with" pop-up. When the file is still on the NAS, I think the format of the link it's trying to open is hxxp://192.168.X.X:XXXX/Folder/filename.mp4 where hxxp is replaced with http (forum rules don't allow new accounts to post links).
It's weird that I have the exact same setup, apps, OS version, files, network, etc. on my Nexus 7 and everything works fine. The same setup also worked previously on my Nexus 5. I've had this problem since I got my 5X, which was shortly after the phone was released.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with it being Marshmallow, because I have Marshmallow on my Nexus 7 where everything seems to work OK. I'm not sure how to check to see what the URL is with the other apps. I was only guessing the URL with the NAS app because there's a "share" feature in that app where it lets me share the file with a friend and it displays the http URL I posted when I do that.

That's strange.
Just open mpg or mkv which can be opened in MX Player. Then check the properties in mxplayer. The URL pattern will be similar to that only except change in file/directory name.

I opened a MKV file and the path is pretty much the same as I said previously, but ends with "...mvk?_basic=lotsofletters=".
Playing around with it now again, I notice that even though I have VLC installed on my phone, it also does not show up in the "Open with" pop-up for the same file extensions that MX Player is missing for. It seems like my phone is just handling files with those extensions strangely. I think the apps that are listed in this pop-up are determined by the "App links" assigned by each app. In the list of apps' "App links" in my phone settings, MX Player and VLC both only list "*". I looked up Podcast Addict since that app is listed in the "Open with" screen for AVI files, and that has about 10 or so youtube and soundcloud URLs, but also "*". It never single-outs AVI files specifically. This whole thing just confuses me. I think it's just a bizarre bug with the Nexus 5X.

Hahah, well, things just got weirder. I was about to reply to your post and went to double check that only "Media Viewer" and "Podcast Addict" were showing in the "Open with" pop-up, but now... everything works fine. MX Player and VLC both show up when I select AVIs and MP4s. Maybe when I was tinkering around in the App Links section I changed some setting? Or maybe just looking at them "woke" the phone up somehow? I have no idea. I don't recall ever doing anything with the settings on the Nexus 7, either, but who knows. I think everything is fine now.
I had to get my phone repaired and got it back today. Surprisingly it works now. I can select MX player from Total Commander when I click a video file. Only problem now is that MX player doesn't see any subtitles. It works from ES file explorer, but not from Total Commander. It's over samba btw

When MX Player gets a remote URL it will try to find the subtitle with the same name in assumption. When the local host denies or returrns with 404, it may not show the subtitles. Either Total commander has to fix the issue or you have to wait till mx player gets native SMB support.
Yes it does indeed seem to do that. I just tested a video that had a subtitle with the same filename and it works. It doesn't work however with subtitles that have language codes in them like video.en.srt. This did work with ES file explorer.
I seem to have the same issue as the OP: playing a video file from samba or FTP (tested with Solid Explorer and ES File Explorer) only returns the default Video Player app and nothing else.
This is true at least for files having wmv or mp4 file extensions. Avi or mkv files can be opened by MX Player, VLC player and Yatse, which should actually work with all kind of video files.
I checked the "App links" section in the settings, and MX Player and VLC are defined as being able to open * links and have all permissions set.
This is on my Moto X 2014, which worked as expected in Lollipop.
Any idea what I could check to fix the issue?
Thanks

Bah, I installed "Intent Intercept" app from Google Play to try and provide some additional information to help resolve this issue... and lo and behold MX Player now appears as a valid target for playing remote WMVs and MP4s...
Have no clue about what happened, but the issue seem to be Android-related, and has nothing to do with MX.
Thanks anyway!

Don't confuse with the tick mark on the right side. The right selection button is intended for batch hiding & removal of entries from list.
In simple theory, if something is listed on folders list without any strike marks, it's added to scan list.

No, I meant that I wanted to add a folder at the right so it'd be easier to navigate.
Turns out Android/EMUI/Huawei allow the user to do just that. I should have tried before asking :-/
After creating the folders, populating them with files, telling MX Player about them, it automagically updates the list of files and let me play them.
Thanks for the help.
Copy your videos to device/misc/Android and past them in this folder (you can also paste them in your own created folder) and MX player will read them. I don't know why but android apps cant access files outside this folder.
I had found the solution about it?
Yes i found the solution about it. Most of the people search the solution about it.
Let's Start
Go to Mx Player->Setting->List->Folders->Add video Folder you want to add then.
After that Just go to your file manager and go to the folder you have added in the mxplayer list then go to file Manager setting set to the "Show hidden files" then you can see the under the folder 1 file was hidden that's name is ".nomedia" delete this file.
"Now you can see the folder in the mxplayer."
Like, comment & share this knowledge to everyone...Thank You !!!
