Hello
I tried MX Player 1.7.40 but can't figure out how to include a folder as there is no Save button, and hitting the left arrow makes MX Player forget the folder I added. I attached a screenshot.
What's the solution to get MX Player to remember folders?
Thank you.

Don't confuse with the tick mark on the right side. The right selection button is intended for batch hiding & removal of entries from list.
In simple theory, if something is listed on folders list without any strike marks, it's added to scan list.

Thanks but I found no way to add folders to the default "Notifications" and "Ring tones".
Does someone know how to play a video that lives in a different folder than those two?

Do you mean that you want to add ringtones & notification tones to folder list.?

No, I meant that I wanted to add a folder at the right so it'd be easier to navigate.
Turns out Android/EMUI/Huawei allow the user to do just that. I should have tried before asking :-/
After creating the folders, populating them with files, telling MX Player about them, it automagically updates the list of files and let me play them.
Thanks for the help.
Copy your videos to device/misc/Android and past them in this folder (you can also paste them in your own created folder) and MX player will read them. I don't know why but android apps cant access files outside this folder.
I had found the solution about it?
Yes i found the solution about it. Most of the people search the solution about it.
Let's Start
Go to Mx Player->Setting->List->Folders->Add video Folder you want to add then.
After that Just go to your file manager and go to the folder you have added in the mxplayer list then go to file Manager setting set to the "Show hidden files" then you can see the under the folder 1 file was hidden that's name is ".nomedia" delete this file.
"Now you can see the folder in the mxplayer."
Like, comment & share this knowledge to everyone...Thank You !!!

Hi everyone!
I used to use Gallery Enabler (later renamed into Media Hidden) to exclude folders from SD media scanning, but I seem can't find the app on Market anymore. Could anyone please post a download link to the app?
More information about the app can be found here:
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/media-hidden_gxdt.html
Thanks indeed!
You could try Pandora or Private Media as well. In my opinion pandora is better as it lets you play files without restoring them to their original location.
Otherwise a very simple way of hiding a folder from gallery is to insert a .nomedia file in the folder. Creating a .nomedia file is easy. Just open a text editor & save a blank file with the name ".nomedia".
Hope this helps.

Wicked!! Learn something new every day! I've been wondering if that was possible
You can also try Hide it Pro application. It can do all sorts of hiding like photos, videos, audio, application
I would like to hide certain folders from some applications but not others. In particular I would like to hide my podcasts from my mp3 player but not my podcast player.
Can this be done?
So I just got the Google Music beta invite and have been syncing my stuff to the cloud. But, I see no options to exclude folders, so it brings in all my podcasts from doggcatcher and my recorded calls. Has anyone found a way to exclude folders?
Yes, you can. I'm not at home right now so I can't look, but IIRC it's the second tab in the music manager. I removed the default on mine (since I didn't really want everything synced) and just added the folders for the artists I wanted access to.

Are you talking about from the app on the phone, or the web interface? Either way, I can't find what you're talking about
Music Manager is the run on PC that is putting content up into the cloud. You should had to have run it to select what to upload ... choices are iTunes, WMP, My Music folder or Other. Use Other to pick exactly what you want.. In the Web player you can remove uploaded content by selecting it and there will be a arrow in lower right corner to delete.

Ah! Ok, I understand what dbagjones is saying now. Maybe I wasn't too clear in my post. I meant exclude folders that are on the SD card in my phone. Hence why my Doggcatcher and recorded call files are being displayed in the music app. They aren't music so I don't want them in there.
The only way that I could find to selectively upload is to use the "Other folders" option on the "Select music" tab and just pick what I wanted uploaded.

That still isn't what I'm trying to do. I have .mp3 and .wma files on my phone that are NOT songs. The Google Music Beta app for Android must automatically scan your entire SD card. I'm not even trying to sync those to the cloud, whatsoever. I just want them to not show up in the app
Can't you put a .nomedia file in there?

yup, adding a .nomedia file to the directory you dont want included will have the media scanner skip that folder and it wont show up in any music app
I know that .nomedia works in the phone. But does it stop the Music Manager from uploading them from my compooter in the first place?
If not - is there another clever way to do this?
Hi all, I have try using Google Music and Shuttle Music Player.. it's quite weird that it even detects my mpg files or my recording files which are store inside other folders ...
It's frustrating that I have to go through the Song list and start to blacklist one by one...is there a way around this ? I can't see it in the app Settings ...

This isn't a Google Music/Shuttle Player issue. This is how Android hunts for media.
To prevent any app from indexing a location that has media files (and by extension, showing up in any music/gallery/movie player app), you have to add a .nomedia file inside the directory that contains the files.
You can do this one of two ways; you can open a blank notepad file, save it with the filename ".nomedia" and set the filetype to "all types", or you can download this one which I made here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xat4bgykd5tugvl/nomedia.zip
Extract from the above folder, and copy and paste the .nomedia file into any folder that contains things you don't want to see in your media players. Then close Play Music/Shuttle or force close/clear data on them, and open them back up again. You won't see them anymore.
thank you so much ... that helps a lot
Hello,
I have a few questions, I hope some one can answer them.
I would like to know if it is possible to set a video folder that is on a network or a web site. I have all my DVDs copied onto my server and would like to access them from my devices.
When I try to add a folder, via settings, it will not show me a network. If I go to Network stream I have to type in the complete url to the file its self for it to play.
Example: 13.125.44.133:4040/movies/61/video_ts/vts_01_1.vob
I would like to be able to see the directory with the list of folders that the movies are in and then select the folder and have the app play the movie.
Example:
Movies/
61
2012
After Earth
....
Maybe the only way to access to this folders its using a file explorer with the capabilities of accessing to network folders.
I was able to locate the file, like you suggested. I am using ES File Explore, it allowed me to save the path and also associate the vob files with MX Player. So now I have one more question. When I ripped my DVD's, they are just like on the DVD. There is 4 or 5 vob files numbered 1, 2, 3... When I select the first vob file and it plays to the end it goes back to the ES File Explore app and does not continue on to the second vob file. Is there a switch so that it will do this or will it just not do this?
MX Player currently has no built-in SMB share support. External apps like ES File Explorer only pass 1 file URI at a time to MX.
This has been previously requested before. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/nYpihpAVJq0/discussion
It's already on the feature requests list. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297
i see that there is a "back to list" i uncheck this and it went to the next file, seam to work.
Interesting, I didn't think that they would have changed so quickly to passing all the URIs in the folder. Well, good to see that you found a solution.
Related: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/bug-report-video-button-lan-mounted-t2967882
An amendment to what I said above; MX still doesn't receive all the URIs, but rather does predictive requests based on filename, as a quickfix to this issue.
I use ES file explorer to do this, you can 'save' the location as a shortcut to the desktop of your device (long press on the folder, select save to desktop)
There are currently a few bugs with this in the latest version which i have my own thread about, subtitles dont load and some videos require software playback to prevent audio going out of sync but it works and works well in general.
Anyone using this feature could tell me how it works when there are 2 files - video and subtitles?

If the directory listing is enabled on the host, MX Player can get the list of files. So, it will automatically load the subtitle as we. Else, MX Player will try to get the subtitle by assumption (by just replacing video extension with subtitle extensions). But, it doesn't work everywhere.
So, it's better to enable directory listing if you are using a local server.
HI!
I usually download all my torrents on mobile including my TV shows.Recently,I downloaded arrested development season 1,mkv file and was watching it using mx Pla:yer prowhen all of a sudden my mx player stopped detecting those videos. So now I have to use my file explorer then navigate to downloads and then finally select a file and click it.This ****'s irritating ,so could you guys give me your advice, since you people know more?
@rashadthegre check
Settings > List > Folders
And see if your download folder is in the list of folders to be searched by MX.

Hi,
MX Player can detect most files with default setting.
But there are still some devices not detecting all files unless adding folders manually.
It would be help for improving default setting if you send system log after refreshing video list.
Please make sure that log should be gather immediately after refreshing video list because it will be erased periodically.
Thanks

I am having the same issue. I have added the folders that my videos are in, on mutiple levels, adding every folder from the desired video folder up to root and still it has none of my desired videos and I must resort to using VLC. Here is my bug report, maybe I could get some help?

Some of your video folders contains a file named ".nomedia". It actually represents that there is no media content inside the folder. So, if you keep any videos inside that directory or any subdirectory, it will be ignored.
For example your download folder in internal memory & media folder on external memory has ".nomedia" files. That's why it's not getting listed.
Either you have to delete those files or alternatively you can force MX Player to scan the directories even if ".nomedia" file found (Goto Settings >> List & Disable "Recognise .nomedia". Then, Refresh the video list.

.vdat looks like just alias of .mp4
Anyway it will be added on next version for convenient use.
