Hey guys and girls,
just wanted to know if the gcam mod for op6 will get better when Google releases the official gcam app for the pixel 3. or will it be easier for developers to get better results for the op6 gcam mod?
will the devs of gcam mod stop their work on the present mod because it is based on the sd835 gcam app? if so then why do the devs even work on the mod now and up until the official sd845 gcam app instead of saying "there will be no gcam mod for the op6 until Google releases the official gcam app for the pixel3 (sd845). we will begin working on this project once the 845 app is available".
are the devs working on the gcam mod just because they are so kind/helpful/... that they spend lots of their free time just to get a working mod right away instead of waiting for the actual app that Google will release shortly? or will all the development into the present app help the devs once the sd845gcam.app is out?
And when did Google release the gcam app for the pixel 2 last year - together with the phone release or was the software available before the phone release?
lots of questions,
would love some clarification!
thanks so much,
v.
The whole thread belongs in the original thread. How a forum should work, so you speak to the developers directly..
1: it might
2: it might
3: they would probably stop using that base.. But keep some things in the code. (might)
4. Well... There are things you just don't know if they even will work properly or not when developing something. There are people in this world that just want to TRY make stuff better or just have fun with it. It's like saying there is no need to save people from starving because we will never succeed... And we therefore don't even care for trying..
5. Sigh... .. Peace out.
thx for answering,
I did think about posting my questions in the thread you mention. but I figured it's too much off topic. I didn't want to interrupt the actual development thread as I'm not helping the thread with useful info regarding the mod.
thanks for your reply,
v.
Well, it's good but the autofocus is slow and not accurated, sometimes got tint pic and the Portraid Mod is bugged (crashed and freeze). Other than that, the CameraAPI is not used so no full features like 4K 60fps etc. and more scalable resolution for photo camera.
This is a very important question, to the point if i keep the phone or not....

Why is camera API not used ?
On old days of OP1 they ported from Find 7 (Camera 2.67)...
Maybe from Oppo R15?

any news?
Good morning, very very long time xda luker here, years in fact, so thought I would jump in and join this topic.
Obviously like most of us I've loved using the gcam port on my SM-A530F and now after the 9.0 update I had to go back to the stock samsung camera. So did a bit a of looking around and found this.
MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_TlnNeun_1.2_test_fix_Exynos.apk
It works. Well I say works, it's extremely buggy, so maybe someone here with a little more knowledge than me can have a play around with it and hopefully (fingers crossed) get it usable.
I'm getting hard restarts when you take a second photo while hdr is processing and in low light conditions it will sometimes crash.
From what I've seen, though I could be wrong and my settings need a tweak but you can't use flash, you can't use front facing camera, and you can't enable motion photo.
Also sometimes when processing hdr it will freeze and you will have to force close and start again.
I'm only after a decent hdr+ back camera, I don't realy care that the front isn't working as to be honest the stock a8 camera is fine for a selfie etc.
Thanks guys, I hope this has helped a little or it might not help at all, but I thought I would share this as it's a version of gcam that doesn't crash on startup and does take photo's we'll sometimes it takes photos. ??

My friend, i found a gcam that works. It can take photos, but after every shot you need to change to video and back. Its zoran gcam. The thing is, the zgcam its just for donators. Look for the telegram group [Galaxy] Official Google Camera and ask for Egoist. He will explain you how to get into the zoran group.

Rear portrait works. Playground needs AR core. To be honest I don't think playground is something I wanna test, seems like a silly thing to me. Motion don't works.

The version I mentioned above does the same, you have to go to settings then back to photo before you can take another shot and also wait for hdr processing to finish.
Confirmed working on SM-G930F!
Can confirm this version of a gcam port works on the SM-G930F, I've not played with the settings yet but I can take photos without any problems!
Let me know if anyone has any settings tweaks to improve this.

I tried the config that you advised and the phone get hard restart when i trying take a picture.
Hi there! I'm just sharing this Gcam version I accidentally bumped into on the port hub. This means I cannot provide any support or bugfix.
Tested and almost every aspect of it works except for slow motion and photo sphere.
Tested and working:
Front:Selfie:✓ normal shot✓ normal shot✓ normal video✓ normal video✓ night sight✓ night sight✓ portrait shot✓ portrait shot✓ lens blur✓ lens blur✓ time lapse
✓ panorama
✓ photo sphere
Definitely not working:
✕ Slow motion
The picture quality pretty good but there is no 48 mp. I'd say 12 just like on the Pixel phones.
16:9 ratio resolution is: 2160x3840
4:3 ratio resolution is: 3000x4000
Further testing needed.

What? I was kind of frustrated how only 6.1 Gcam works on our new device so I was downloading all sorts of gcam versions from the gcam port hub. Before this one worked, I installed 12 gcam versions of Gcam 7+ and none of them worked. For 13th try this one worked. This has nothing to do with your post or whatever.
Ctc. Then why did u post thanks it works.
You know what, just leave it. These things are just discoveries which no one else should take credit of other than the developer. Huge shot out to the one who created it. Over and out with you.

Because that one worked? That's why I thanked. Still nevertheless I was disappointed how we only get 6.1 gcam while there are 7+ gcams out there so I started downloading 7+ gcam versions hoping one of them will work. I'm really in love with up to date stuff. So as I said I really stumbled upon this version and nothing it has to do with your share. Only that the version you shared was too incomplete for me and made me want a newer version. That's why I found this 7+ verison because the 6+ version didn't satisfy me. Why should I have mentioned your posts while your post barely had anything to do with me finding this working 7+ verison? It's not like you made that Gcam verison or I made this one. These are just shares and we share them so others will be able to use their camera to their fullest. It's not like I stole from you or anyone, or I took credits for anything.

Oh, sorry. I mistook you for someone else.
This was the only post that I saw about gcam for the device. I thought you were the OP of that thread. I didn't ever see your post with 7+ gcam. If I saw I wouldn't made a double with the same version. After seeing the 6.1 version I went to celzoalvedo or what site, I mean the port hub and started looking for a newer working version. I don't even know what's going on.
Indeed I thanked in that thread but for op's post, not yours I slipped over your version share. If I saw it, I wouldn't have downloaded 12+ versions from the port hub and saved myself from a lot of annoyances. Now I understand what you're talking about. Now I understand why you asked if I'm a developer, I guess. I was just happy that the 13th version of gcam I downloaded from the port hub worked and in that sudden spike of success/joy I shared on xda for others to use too. Sorry for being ignorant and not seeing your previous comment on that thread. I'd not even have made this thread if I saw your post.

Btw stock camera output's colors may look saturated but to my eyes they're accurate based on the scene.

Try clearing the appdata and setting it to default again.Or try switching between the gcam default and medium saturation a few times. Coz mine also started out pretty desaturated but sort of corrected itself after fiddling a bit and restarting the app. I would have shown samples but its not letting me to.most probably because mines a new account.

GCam MOD is far superior to most of the stock camera apps.
OnePlus 8 does fit all the specs for the GCam or Ultracam. Has the IMX 586 so seems likely we will vet a port.
Any news from the experts?
I’m curious as to how much GCAM improves the standard OP8 camera. If at all?
The pro is flawed, had one and returned it and actually prefer the footprint of the standard but I’d want better camera performance than the stock camera provides. Would be good to know how much of Google’s special sauce can be brought to the OP8

I tried the GCam Mod today with the Magisk Module for other cameras support.
I do see that the GCam is actually able to switch between the three cameras ( Tested by closing other cameras with finger while switching between the thee modes)
0.6x is switching to MACRO Camera
1x is shooting 12MP mode of the Main Camera
2x : is switching to the Top Camera and works well in Wide mode (if ratio is 4:3)
GCam version : 7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.6
Magisk : Aux_Mod_V2

All Gcam's are for non-rooted users since they are just an APK to install. I can verify the one on this page for the oneplus 7/7t/7pro works fully, but I can't really say if it is better or not cause I'm not a big camera person.

Gcam can be installed on Non Root but can't access the other cameras except the Main sensor.
to access other lenses you will need magisk module.
Detailed steps to install are here:
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums/topic/oneplus-8-and-8-pro-gcam-google-camera/
The latest OxygenOS opened up some access to aux cameras in Gcam without root. Ultrawide is possible to use now without root.
For a compatible OnePlus 8 Gcam + XML check the OnePlus 8 telegram Group : https://t.me/gcamOnePlus8
Gcam info here : https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/links/
I installed the latest GCam version from that last link along with the xml file on my T-Mobile OnePlus 8. Mostly it work great, but it cranes any time I try to switch to nightsight mode. Anyone else experiencing this?
Unrelated, I'm not sure if I have the latest OS version mentioned above that enables switching lenses, but I don't see to have that option. Looking at the last message I saw in the telegram group, it seems the requirements for the 8 vs 8Pro are different with regard to root and magisk. Root is not an option for me.
Was considering the LG Velvet 5G but was just wondering if anyone has used gcam on it yet?
In the gcam hub useful links I can see the other LG phones like V60 but no Velvet.
Thanks in advance!
I have, It's not built just for the Velvet but it is built to work with ultra-wide cameras. The video should definitely be taken on the default camera app, normal photos you should use GCAM for. Photos at night come out horrible from GCAM, and okay if not bad from the normal camera app. Other people's experience may vary though if they found a better build
TLDR (?) Hey there. New to this thread but plenty of experience with Gcam variants and LG phones. I also happen to be a photographer! Anyways, don't expect magic out of the Velvet.... and it looks like support for this specific variant will be slow-but-steady. All things aside, I'm using the "GreatnessCam 2.1.1" found celsoazevedo's Gcam hub which is great once tweaked. The main camera's aperture means pretty damn decent low-light photography, especially when HDR+ is enabled. The ultra-wide angle's aperture is less narrow and the ISO sensitivity over-compensates which translates into terrible low-light photography in almost any setting. Of note, that Greatness variant will crash when ultra-wide angle is enabled in video mode, and Night Site isn't fully functional. Yet. I hope this helped a little, and if you (or anyone else) is curious about something more specific, please ask away.
What version of GCam is working for you guys? I have tried a few but with no luck. (GreatnessCam 2.1.1 is not working for me, lags alot)

After many downloads I got one that seem to work properly, though not my favorite.

Has anyone had success with a better camera app for the Velvet 5G? I see theres a bunch of modded gCam configs for a lot of the LG G series phones that improve them, not seeing anything really for the Velvet yet.
