Google camera on Oneplus 8 - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

I download the latest version of gcam, but it has too limits (many features that stock camera has, gcam hasn't such as 48 mpx shot or ultra-wide shot etc). It nice to have a gcam that can implement all the OP 8 features. Any solution?

Whats wrong with the camera app that comes with the OP8?

GCam MOD is far superior to most of the stock camera apps.

OnePlus 8 does fit all the specs for the GCam or Ultracam. Has the IMX 586 so seems likely we will vet a port.
Any news from the experts?

I’m curious as to how much GCAM improves the standard OP8 camera. If at all?
The pro is flawed, had one and returned it and actually prefer the footprint of the standard but I’d want better camera performance than the stock camera provides. Would be good to know how much of Google’s special sauce can be brought to the OP8

I tried the GCam Mod today with the Magisk Module for other cameras support.
I do see that the GCam is actually able to switch between the three cameras ( Tested by closing other cameras with finger while switching between the thee modes)
0.6x is switching to MACRO Camera
1x is shooting 12MP mode of the Main Camera
2x : is switching to the Top Camera and works well in Wide mode (if ratio is 4:3)
GCam version : 7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.6
Magisk : Aux_Mod_V2

All Gcam's are for non-rooted users since they are just an APK to install. I can verify the one on this page for the oneplus 7/7t/7pro works fully, but I can't really say if it is better or not cause I'm not a big camera person.

Gcam can be installed on Non Root but can't access the other cameras except the Main sensor.
to access other lenses you will need magisk module.
Detailed steps to install are here:
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums/topic/oneplus-8-and-8-pro-gcam-google-camera/

The latest OxygenOS opened up some access to aux cameras in Gcam without root. Ultrawide is possible to use now without root.
For a compatible OnePlus 8 Gcam + XML check the OnePlus 8 telegram Group : https://t.me/gcamOnePlus8
Gcam info here : https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/links/

I installed the latest GCam version from that last link along with the xml file on my T-Mobile OnePlus 8. Mostly it work great, but it cranes any time I try to switch to nightsight mode. Anyone else experiencing this?
Unrelated, I'm not sure if I have the latest OS version mentioned above that enables switching lenses, but I don't see to have that option. Looking at the last message I saw in the telegram group, it seems the requirements for the 8 vs 8Pro are different with regard to root and magisk. Root is not an option for me.

GCAM for Oneplus 6

Can any one port the GCAM mod for OP6. I used to get better images in my OP3 with Gcam mod. Even the photos of Oos camera in OP6 is not that good as that of Gcam pics of my OP3. I installed the Gcam mod by @SKULSHADY in OP6 but it wont post process the images and crashes are also high. Someone please help...
I don't think any of the devs has the OP6 yet, so there is nobody currently to work on a possible fix.
What is needed for a start are LOGS! No logs, no progress. That's how the community got the OP3/T to perform great with the Gcam Mod.
Nothing we can do but test, provide logs, tag the devs and wait.
I also found this statement on Reddit:
One of the developers (damit sind die Mod Devs gemeint) said that the HAL has been moved to the processor level for the 845 and hence there's no way that GCAM can work properly without root. It's not completely concrete yet but from what he said there's likely no possible way to get it working. It currently doesn't work on any snapdragon 845 devices except the S9 and even then it's extremely buggy and worse than stock

@ashwin murali
As you already have the OP6, could you please do some comparison shots with the OP3 (stock and with Gcam) in full resolution and quality? (for example on Google Photos)
I'm really curious how they compare. I already preordered the OP6 on Amazon but canceled it as soon as I heard about Gcam issues.
I don't mind to root the device if I can use GCam on Oneplus 6
I can confirm, any version I used so far of the gcam gives the same quality like the stock camera. No comparison required. The pictures are not really clear, lack details and have this kind of oil picture effect. sadly.
How to provide logs? Which version should I use to provide those? I'd be happy to support if possible without rooting my device (using it for corporate purposes so no root for me)
I'll root anyways so it wouldn't be a problem for me
what should i do after root?

We have to wait until new GCam app that is developed for Snapdragon 845 phones

Working GCam apks (normal/wide). Be proud of having the best camera ever.

For those who were unsuccessful in trying those GCam by cstark, at https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-cstark27/ , the above 2 links, you have to install both of seperately, It's worth using the stunning LG G7 camera! We should thank the developer for working for the OP6 being working on the LG G7. My settings in both cameras were.
1) Pixels auto HDR+ enabled.
2)Final JPG quality HDR+ 100%.
The issue I got was if changed to HDR+ Auto, it becomes unusable. So keep HDR+ On always. If you have better settings, share them below. .
Both wide and normal results in stunning images. Definitely better than Stock Camera. I hope the future updates will improve our beasts. Enjoy.
Portrait is broken in both I think.
I can't get slowmotion recording to work. Either app just closes.

because too many of these GCams do not work with the LG G7, now I found a new apk with both modes working as included in single apk.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v4.2t2.apk
Wow thanks! What are the recommended advanced settings?
In case you're like me and glanced over the OP, it will not work until you change HDR to always on instead of auto - as mentioned by the OP. I'm going to check it out. I've been disappointed with the low light photo quality on the stock camera. Hoping this helps!

Hi. Does gcam have the same shutter lag as original camera app?
If it does, so how to fix that? Any tips is appreciated.
Sorry if it is not right place to ask. I am just frustrated and do not find any solution for that.
Thanks!
IMO gcam sucks compared to stock... This is why I have uninstalled it.
I have oneplus 7t pro mclaren.
Will it work with oneplus 7t pro mclaren?

No Gcam works?

I have installed 2 versions of the Gcam and none of them work, or it gives FC or my A8 reboots. You can help me with a version that works correctly without root
Regards
Would definitely appreciate a good one that makes good use of both front cameras.

Do you think that the native camera of the A8 is better than the Gcam in all circumstances,or the Gcam by day can be better option or get more detail?
I still can not find a usable Gcam ...?

What no one has mentioned yet is that Samsung broke some of the code that supported Gcam in the Oreo firmware update for the A8. Now, when you install Gcam the HDR option does not even show up; and it crashes the phone if you try to enable it (by forcing all images to be HDR, for example).
I'm thinking of rooting and using Magisk and the Camera2API enabler module -- has anyone tried this?
Edit: You also can't rollback to N using Odin because of changes to the bootloader
There are a lot of working GCam for A8 2018. I tried several of them. The one that works every time would be iDan's Gcam 3.2.9. Portrait, HDR and RAW works. As of now, I am trying out newer gcam with Night Sight hoping one would work. I report a new Gcam working in the A8/A8+ 2018 Telegram.

Going to try this one. Ty
A GCam port you might be interested in is another IDan GCam port, dated 2018/09/12 and version 1.8 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77603383&postcount=170 (based on GCam v5.1?)
It's running okay on my A530F (v8.0, October 2018 security patch) and I've been able to capture front and rear camera videos and photos (though the front camera didn't seem to like the wider angle shots). I've not had time to test the other features, though at least this port doesn't appear to reboot the A8.
Edit: as noted below, portrait mode crashes the device credit to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78456952&postcount=11

Can I confirm that the GCam 3.2.9 you mention is the one from here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-idan/ ? Trying this build https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exy.apk the front portrait mode produces a strange pair of photos with different tones and the rear portrait mode appears to crash the device (A530, October 2018 v 8.0 security patch). The normal camera modes seem to work okay.
I can not make any version of Gcam work and the only one I could manage to take some pictures came out worse than with the native, very pale ... I would like to know if you know of any dev that is working on our A8 to carry a Gcam in conditions

Agree, the photos are worst then the stock camera. The thing is that no one is developing nothing for a8, so i don't think we gonna have a good gcam on this phone. We will have to try all the exynos versions.

Best working camera for custom ROMs

I thought I'd just create a post to discuss cameras for the F2 Pro running custom ROMs.
So far I've been testing ANX Camera and various GCams, but found both don't work 100%.
I've found some forums talking about Gcam and the Telegram groups talking about ANX Cam, but am yet to find one that fully works.
ANX Cam.
I've found the picture quality to be really good and appears better than Gcam from what I can tell.
Working: Default 16MP, 64MP Cam works and the 2x zoom.
Not Working > Portrait mode crashes, front pop up cam crashes, but working on video, wide 0.6 cam doesn't work
Flashed modules in Magisk:
ANX Cam
ANXCameraHotfix.190.BootloopFix.zip
48MPFixQ_181.GlossyIntelligentCock.zip
ANXCameraProvider.190.BountifulDistantHapuka.zip
ANXCameraHotfix.190.BootloopFix.zip
Then install ANX Cam from PlayStore
GCam:
Using Gcam 7.3.018 by Urnyx05 version 2.4 Gcam 7.3.018 Urnyx05 v2.4
Also trying GreatnessCam 2.3 GreatnessCam
Working: Wide angle 0.6 cam works, portrait works
Not Working: Both Gcam's seem to work, but unable to get the 64MP cam to work and 2x zoom.
I've just found it tricky with all the various Gcam versions and ANX cam mods to find a single working solution. If could get Gcam that works could scrap ANX or vice versa.
Can you share your cam config if it's working?
OK, I'm reviving this thread.

My experience with Gcam. It mostly works except the 64MP camera and doesmt have the 2x zoom. But I think otherwise everything works ok.
I've been using the Anx camerw port but is a pain as need magisk modules just to run it and the selfie can doesn't work or wide angle.
So gcam is by far the easiest

Does the stock camera work, yes. It's quality is essentially the same as all other LOS devices and their stock cameras. They work, so-so quality.
When you say lanes, I'm going to assume you mean the auxiliary cameras? No they do not work. There are some versions of GCam out now with all of them working. That being said, the version I still like, that just works is has been this one:
GCam_dev_6beta3.201224.0112build-8.1.101.apk (<-- celsoazevedo.com link)
That version does not have the auxiliary cameras working either. I use it though as everything just seems to work without issue, no tweaking of settings between functions, etc.
