Can someone help me find what took over my missed call notification to show ads? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

UPDATE: Look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76594893&postcount=7
First of all, thanks to all who can help me figure this out. It has been a while since I’ve been on this forum and I did manage to try and stay out of trouble with my devices. I am careful about what I put on the phone and I have several antivirus apps running but I can’t figure out this one. This started happening this week on my stock galaxy s8+ unlocked straight from Samsung unmodified by cell carriers. The notification screen now reads “One missed call from 19:00” and I posted a pic of it below this text. I thought a new version of Google Voice was doing this but I uninstalled it. Anyone knows how to figure out what app is taking over my missed call notifications?

When the pop up is opened like on the picture, have you tried hitting the recent button to see what the app is called? It'll usually say the app name on the top left corner in recents

I don’t press on the ads and do not want to take a chance.

It might be the hiya app

I don’t think it’s the hiya because there is a separate pop up from hiya that is purple and shows caller name and not 19:00.

Just hold down on the notification and check the app info

I found the scumbag app. It's called "App Backup & Restore - Easiest backup tool". Latest update displays ads after every call. This is like a virus because it runs when the app is not open.

remove the "phone" permission for the app and it wont be able to post ads after your call

Notifications mess with active app when using Pebble, Troubleshooting advice needed

Hi everyone,
Nexus 5 on different recent CM11 nightlies, and Pebble V3R1 on firmwares from 2.4 to 2.6, fwiw.
So I'm using a "Notification Center" app to get notifications to my Pebble smartwatch. The app uses NotificationListener, then filters through custom settings (like "no notifications for app xyz"), then sends the message to the Pebble (or not).
Now whenever I'm having the phone on and an app running, taking WhatsApp with the keyboard up as an example now, and I get a new notification that wasn't previously there (like the first Hangouts message since I last dismissed Hangouts notifications), and the message is not filtered out but actually forwarded to the watch, WhatsApp will behave like when you hit the home button and open it again right away, which means the keyboard will minimize in that case, which is annoying, to say the least. It also happens when I dismiss the notification on the phone from the watch.
I also found out over time that this issue exists for four different apps (had to buy every single one :victory: ) from independent developers. I contacted two of them personally and none of them has a clue what to do or is able to reproduce the issue. Also no one else seems to have reported this one.
There are options to work around the problem like disabling notifications being sent to the watch while the phone screen is on, but that's not convenient, because I enjoy having those notifications on the watch while using a fullscreen app, for example. But I'm really out of ideas as to where to look or who to talk to to get a step further with this weird issue.
Also I can not reproduce it using other NotificationListener apps, like tasker + relevant plugin to execute some stuff.
If anyone had really any input, like how would I go about finding out "who" actually messes with the active app, or anything really, I'd be grateful.
Thanks, Silkey
Edit: And just minutes after posting I find another one: whenever opening or closing the main menu on the pebble the exact same thing happens. I guess I'll have to take this one over to the pebble developers. I'll leave this here though if I may, maybe someday someone will experience this too and stumble upon this thread.
Edit2: With the first edit and some help on IRC we were now able to be 100% sure it's an pebble issue. Sorry for this one, I guess.

[Q] random notification sound

I'm most likely going to repair or flash another ftf file but before I do that I want to know whether anyone else is having the same issue.
From time to time I kept hearing my phones notification, but when I check it there isn't any notifications I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Today I have figured out it was "themes" that was causing this, I cannot seem to block the notification nor stop this random notification sound from it. Just to be clear again, there are no notifications from "themes" i dont know why it shows on the list but it is definitely causing this problem.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue? or help check whether "themes" is shown on your app notification list?
the following shows the most recent app notification
Settings/sound and notification/app notification
also refer to the attached screen shot for your reference.
thanks
EDIT: same thing happening on my xperia z2 tablet
Got the same on my 6603. Stock UK, lb and unrooted.
Random notifications, maybe twice a day.
Themes is the second item in the "most recent" in App Notifications.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app

im on D6603_23.1.A.0.690_R4C_Customized US_1288-7827, "second item" means it is pretty recent, the "most recent" goes in chronological order. This is funny, must be a bug in lollipop, need to inform Sony
Audio bug
I don't have that bug with the France firmware but I have a similar problem: when I'm watching videos in YouTube and one notification appears, video volume decreases and does not increase again
When I have my mail program on the PC open and it detects a spam message and deletes that, the phone is making a notification, but because it sees the message deleted near instantly, the notification is immediately removed. Maybe you have something similar happening.

[Completed] Google Play App Update Popups

Having hunted for a thread about this and coming up empty handed, I've decided to ask it myself. Recently (within the past three months I would say) Google updated the Play Store to give you these popups on the bottom of the screen for whenever an app is auto-updated inviting you to back the app up. These popups take up about a third of the screen on my new Note 5; it was far worse on my old galaxy nexus. Furthermore, the popup will close the keyboard and change the focus of the screen, meaning that in order to get back to composing a message you must do three things: wait for this unnecessary notification to go away, then tap the screen so the focus goes back to the app you were using, and tap again inside your text box. If the app you were using is particularly sloppy, this loss of focus might actually also clear the text field.
Even if you're not doing anything important however, a sudden popup that takes up a third of the screen is enough to send you to the loony bin if you react the way you would like to and you're in a public place. Now, there is no setting available in the play store related to this. The popups contain a check box that allows you to specify "never show again," but short of waiting until I intercepted each and every last one of them for each and every last auto updated app, there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of these horrible things. I could possibly disable all notifications from the play store through the apps menu in the settings, but that would be counter productive. Has anyone managed to get rid of this awful feature? And is there anyone that we can hang for coming up with that idea in the first place? After all, one of the best things about notifications on Android (at least previously) is that they specifically DON'T interrupt you; they're up there in the notification panel where they belong!

You did not mention about the exact device model.
However there is a general forum for android here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help where you can get better help and support if you try to ask over there.
Good luck.

How to stop incoming calls from preventing you to use the phone?

Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

Ahh yeah you need a specific one. This works well
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/themes/app-root-google-dialer-10-1-161735957-t3636608
grab version 17 or newer
Great thanks
But the problem is that i think i have to root the phone, because even after installing the latest version and allowing permissions to the Dialer app i still get the calls from the default HTC original dialer.. Im using the last version (17)

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app
Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.
I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!
You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)

Permanently remove voicemail notification from status bar

Greetings everyone, I have a really annoying problem with my OP7 Pro. Lately, there is a notification on the status bar for voicemail. However, the SIM card I'm using in the phone is very basic - it only offers straight calling and SMS. Voicemail is not even a feature that's provided by the mobile company. So, I cannot understand why it suddenly showed up or what I can do to get rid of it. Since I have no access to voicemail, there are obviously no messages that I could check for, nor would I be able to delete any non-existent message.
I've long pressed on the pulldown notification and chose to "turn off" the notifications. Then there will be a message that states "you will not see these notifications anymore". Except, it's not true. About 5 to 10 seconds later, the voicemail notification is already back on the status bar. I've also checked the Phone app and cleared Cache as well as Storage. When I cleared Storage, the voicemail notification did indeed disappear - for about 5 seconds. Then it shows right back up again.
If someone could offer any suggestions how I could get rid of it forever, it would be so helpful.
If it helps, I'm using standard stock Oxygen ROM 10.3.7
Thank you!

Not sure if there is an easier or better way to solve this on the OnePlus 7 Pro, but back when I had a Samsung Note 9 I had a similar issue where it would consistently show a notification for Wifi Calling. I used an app called AutoNotification, which is on the Play Store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autonotification&hl=en_US. This app is from the creator of Tasker, and has been a godsend for me. To actually purchase the app, I think you'll need to install the main app called AutoApps or something. Definitely worth a try! Hope it works for you If you need help setting it up feel free to ask.
