v20 says "mobile network unavailable - Android Apps and Games

First time poster and a real newby when it comes to tweaking phones.
I have an unlocked LG V20 which I purchased (and really like) from T-Mobile. I am trying to use it with Consumer Cellular. I have gotten it to work sometimes but it connects very seldom.
I had to set up the APN settings manually which seems weird but like I said, it works - sometimes.
Currently, I cant seem to send texts or even call anyone. The phone says it's registered on the network.
I was having an issue with it de-selecting the APN settings I had made (and saved) for Consumer Cellular. As it was a T-mobile phone, I figured it was trying to go back to the T-Mobile APN so I figured out how to delete the T-Mobile APN. I also deleted all other APN choices except the one I had made for Consumer Cellular. Now it seems to keep the CC APN selected but only for a short time. After awhile, it will de-select the APN so there is no APN selected at all.
Now it cant make calls at all
I am also getting an "er082" error (red phone icon) regarding WiFi calling.
Any help would be much appreciated. I really like this phone and would like it to work
Thanks,
Jim

No 3G icon or data connection

Hello everyone,
I got my Captivate yesterday shipped from letstalk.com. Everything with it has been working well, except I don't get a data connection with it at all, except WiFi.
As instructed by the sticker on the box the sim I am using is from my old phone, a Samsung SGH-A707 flip phone. The sim is a little over two years old. When the sim is in that phone, I get a 3G icon immediately.
I have tried turning the phone off, leaving it for several minutes, turning it back on again. Also removing the battery.
When I go to Settings, Wireless and Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, I see ATT WAP listed. I have tried adding another Access Point Network based on settings seen elsewhere in this forum which differed slightly by specifying a username and password, and not having the proxy and port set. But selecting this other APN has no change.
When I go to Network Operators all I see is an unselectable 'Default Setup' item. Others have reported seeing network connection information there, can anyone confirm on their Captivate?
Checking or unchecking 'Data roaming' does not seem to have any effect.
Under Settings, About Phone, Status the Mobile Network Type is listed as 'HSDPA' but Mobile Network State is 'Disconnected'.
LetsTalk are sending me a new SIM to try, but since I get a 3G connection on my old phone my suspicion is that this is a phone problem.
Does anyone have any other ideas though? Any help would be much appreciated.
Wow well you found something I hadn't yet. There was some talk about whether the captivate did hsdpa or not.. and according to the setting you looked at, it does. In that setting does it show your network is on aT&T? You shouldn't have to create a new APN, the default one should work. Sure you don't have the phone in airplane mode? I'm sure that's a stupid question, just asking.
If you don't have a 3G sim card I hear 3G wont work. You can get a new sim from ATT for free. Oh and about hsdpa ATT disables that Icon and uses a 3G one. I seen a test somewhere with two dif phones one with a 3G icon and one with the H getting the same speeds.

Yeah it shows AT&T under Network.
Nope, not in airplane mode, but thanks for checking, I'd rather you'd assume I was stupid than not ask me the question!

It is a 3G sim, at least that's what it is labeled as. Like I said I (apparently) got a 3G signal on my old phone. And a new sim is on the way.
on the sim does it say 3G with flames around it lol (thats how my last sim was and it was 3G)
I went to the ATT store to get my captivate. I had an old sim ATT logo with flames that worked in a N1, N97, Bold 9700 and iPhone. I too showed no 3G. They had to replace my sim and it started working. They couldn't explain it.

Great, that gives me some hope the new sim that is on the way could fix it, thanks!
I had this problem as well. This fix worked for me:
Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile Networks
Check both boxes
- Use packet data
- Data roaming
ATT / Captivate Android 2.2
Hope this helps,
Did you find a solution for this? I'm having the exact same problem with my Captivate. No 3G icon and no packet data connection or mms. When I try to go to a page it immediately gives me the "not found: check your data connection" page, and when I try to send a mms, the 3G icon appears like if it was trying to connect and send it and then disappears when the message fails to send.
I just updated to 2.2 today and I no longer have 3G as well.
just an FYI as long as wifi is turned on you will not see the 3g icon.
I have noticed that when you turn wifi off you generally will not see the 3g icon until you do something with the phone that requires data connections
Turn off wifi and try opening a website via browser...the 3G icon should pop-up automatically at that point

Hello sir, I tried this and now i have 3G(icon popped up and internet/mms works) but am i incurring roaming charges?
For me even that's not working, I think my stupid phone is broken.
When I got a refub'ed Captivate for my partner via AT&T online store since it was only $49, I followed the instructions that came on the box, and everything worked except no 3G/data. So thinking that it might be because of a refurb'ed unit, I called AT&T. They told me to bring it into a corp office store. Fortunately, there's one right down the street from me. I took it in, they fiddled with it for about an hour, including swapping 3 different SIMs, and told me that it was a defective phone. I asked then how do I get a replacement. The rep told me to contact cust service for them to ship a replacement out and it'll include instruction to ship the defective one back since they can't replace refurb unit there at the store. So I went out to my car, called the cust service. The cust service rep told me that I have to send the defective one in first before they'll send me a replacement. I got angry and I went right back in the store, grabbed the rep that was helping me out and told him to please talk to the cust service rep to work things out because I'm not leaving the store until it's resolved. So they talked on the phone for about another 30 min. Then they hung up. The rep fiddled with it for another min, then handed me the phone and the 3G/data was working. Appearantly it was the way that the phone was registered with the system, something was out of whack and 3G/data was not available for that phone line. I then recalled that when I ordered the phone from AT&T, I got an email with instructions that I had to follow, which I did, then I followed the instructions that came with the box. I didn't think much at the time, but it seems like the instruction was telling to do the same thing as the email's instruction was except it was via a slightly different way. So I think I might have inadvertly register the phone twice. In any case, when that happens, 3G/data is not available and yet, the reps checking in the system found the account was setup correctly with the proper plans, changed plans, swapped SIMs, and came to the conclusion of defective phone when the phone was perfectly fine. I don't know if this will help any one. But if your phone is not flashed or rooted, you might want to have AT&T check your account and phone registration.
Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names. Inside that option go to Menu -> Reset to default. (Reboot your phone)
Worked for me, i have a samsung captivate thats rooted running on 2.2 froyo and i was deleting some user data, believe it was dialer data (do not delete that, it also deletes your texts) and i all of a sudden my internet stopped working,i tried every setting and i even think there weren't any APN in the list of APNs because of deleting rampage, so i reset my phone and after that i reset the APN back to default settings and rebooted my phone and it worked. For some of you guys, if it still has an APN(the cingular one) in the list of APNs then all you have to do is reset it back to default by clicking menu with the menu button on your phone and click reset. It should work.

Worked like a charm on my Samsung Vibrant S on Virigin ... this gem of a tip shall be remembered. This started yesterday on the road when data was needed for a work emergency. If only I'd known it then. :-(
Now to fix the Wi-fi from turning itself on and off of it's own free will. *sigh*
Thanks for posting on an old post Sreenadh. You saved the day!

[Q]Lumia 710 T-Mobile Straight Talk

I've checked the forums and while I see some mentions of ATT configs I don't see much for TMo.
I have a Lumia 710, and a tmobile version Straight Talk sim. I had the sim cut by TMO in order to fit the phone and calling and texts work well. However I can't enable the cellular data. I checked Straight Talks setup info and in Android it's as detailed, but in WP7 it's a lil different(I guess mms and APN are in diff pages).
I tried just setting APN to wap.tracfone and nada. Is there anyone else who is having or has had this issue to give some suggestion? Again, most of what I've found here and elsehwhere are all about using an ATT sim.
EDIT: Not sure if it's necessary to note, but I had to flash the 1600.3031.8773.12121 firmware from australia, no network there just says Australia 227.
EDIT: I also have the the Nokia Network Setup app due to this, but it gives me no options just auto does whatever and says "T-Mobile". The APN settings that have worked for me in the past is to set the APN and port alone, however the APN settings in WP7 want a proxy/url with a port. I've seen this mentioned in another post from April after some more googling, but o replies there also.

Strange APN [email protected]

Hi all
As a T-mobile UK customer I have been finding that I lose internet on my phone every 6 or 7 days, typically lasting for about 6 hours.
During my last converstaion with support I mentioned that i had the following in the APN settings
[email protected]
They seem to think that it might be a Tmobile USA profile and hence the problem (how the wrong APN could work for 95% of the time is beyond me).
I did take the handset to the USA last year but did not have data roaming turned on. Does anyone know how i ended up with the wrong APN? A quick google search returns no results for the APN listed...
I have since manually changed the APN and things seem ok (for now).

Whoops.... I have just found out where the the APN settings came from.
In an attempt to get my MMS working I just ran the HTC Connection Manager. For the first time in 1.5 years my MMS is working but I have noticed that my new APN settings say [email protected]
So it seems that HTC use APNs that T-mobile UK are not familiar with? Annoyingly I have no way of viewing the new APN or editing it
Does anyone know which settings the HTC connection manager uses? I am concerned that although MMS is working, if my internet connection goes down again, the UK helpdesk might just shrug their shoulders and pass the buck to HTC, who in turn will pass it back
Ok so I spoke to HTC UK today, they told that they have no way of finding out what APN their app uses, they suggested that I use the generic T-mobile APN that they have on their system, which I did and the MMS stopped working again.... so I ran their app and alll is fine again (for now).
I guess that I will have to try to email HTC. It is rather annoying that MS decided that customers shouldn't be allowed to see existing APNs.
I do have a dev account, tbh I only subscribed so that I could get mango early, if that means that I can sideload something that will show me the APN in use then please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Cheers

Accidentally changed APN setting now no call/text but data connection is fine

I was out in the country trying to get my phone connected to a network as the rest of my family (same plan) had connections with their iphones. Low and behold a new setting shows up in mobile networks that I had not seen before, Access Point Names. My biggest mistake was changing settings in something I knew nothing about but I did and pressed restore factory default. Once I reached an area that had a data connection, it seemed all worked well until I tried to send a text. I soon found out I couldn't send or receive any texts/calls.
I've flashed to stock, updated prl, and nothing has worked. I tried to change apn settings using those from this site 4GLTE, but it proved futile. Now I'm stuck and more frustrated than I was before I couldn't get service.
I feel like an idiot and really could use some help! Thanks!

call your carrier and check your apn setting with them. Fastest and easiest way.

Can someone explain how APN setting configuration actually works?

So, let me explain the problem I had as context for my question.
I have a HTC M8 from Verizon that is totally unlocked (bootloader, SIM, etc) and rooted. I am running a recent version of LineageOS
My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S5 from Verizon that is rooted. She is running the latest available stock firmware from Verizon (with some bloat removed).
On the Verizon network with our Verizon SIM cards neither of us could edit APN settings.
We have been off contract for a while and just switched to Total Wireless.
I had 0 issues with my phone as the proper APN for Total Wireless was obviously loaded properly into my phone when I put in their SIM.
My wife OTOH was not able to get any internet access and upon examining her settings I noticed she lacked the newer TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN that my phone had.
I was not however able to edit her APN settings.
From everything I was finding online it seemed that the phone was clearly unlocked since the TW SIM worked to make/receive phone calls. Also it appeared people were stating that the presence of an APN is a function of the SIM and that if the APN wasn't there or I couldn't add it, then the SIM was the problem.
In the end I was able to install build.prop editor and make the following changes:
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
This allowed me to add an APN. I copied the settings from my HTC *exactly* (triple checked) and still no Internet.
Finally I chose the option "Reset to default" and it appeared that it deleted the APN I added and added another TRACFONE.VZWENTP that was just slightly different then what I had on my phone (it set the "Bearer" option to 'LTE' instead of 'unspecified'). Everything then worked.
This experience leaves me to believe the following:
1) The ability to edit the APNs is a function of the ROM, not the SIM, since I was able to edit with build.prop and then make the change.
If this is the case however, why would a custom ROM like LineageOS not have this unlocked by default???
2) The APN is actually stored in the SIM card.
This must be the case because when I "Reset to default" there was nowhere that it could have gotten these changed settings from other than the SIM card as it was unable to even reach out to the internet at the time (wifi was off).
This was all just such a hassle and there are hundreds of posts out there about people in similar situation who state they can't access their APN settings.
If my wife's phone wasn't rooted I would not have been able to use build.prop editor to make the APN editable and then I would never have been able to get internet. What could I have done in that situation?
Again - my issue was resolved, but I am trying to understand specifically how these things are controlled and unlocked - especially for someone who doesn't have root access to their phone.
Oh - I just wanted to add that I worked with Total Wireless over chat for close to an hour while I was researching this on my own.
I helped them out from the beginning by telling them that I thought the APN was the issue and the block head kept telling me that I needed to edit my APN settings.
When I continued to tell him they were greyed out and I couldn't do it he just kept repeating as if they have never experienced this before and there *must* be a way for me to edit my APN settings.
I haven't had a build on my HTC or my wife's G5 that I can remember where I have ever been able to edit them manually, so I would expect that grayed out APN settings are pretty standard. Ofc I may have had a total moron over chat (likely), but he seemed to be consulting either their internal KB or another associate - so the fact that it was so difficult for them to figure this out (in fact they never did, I did) and they never would likely have if my phone wasn't rooted is very perplexing to me as to the root problem.
