Lineage 15 UI on Honor? - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
i recently used a nexus 5x for some time and flashed it to lineage os 15.x. I am really stunned by the UI. The pull-up menu as well as theming (Icons and so on) as well as no useless apps just blew my mind.
Now I'm back to my Honor 6X and I'd really love to get that very UI (and maybe get rid of the bloatware). So I scrolled around in the ROM/Dev-section of this board but did not really find a everyday usable custom rom. All of those appear either to have unfixed bugs that prevent everyday usage (e.g. Slim-Rom has no working calls, MTP, fingerprint partially and so on, ELITE Rom seems the most used and maintained but seems partly buggy as well) or are not maintained.
So I started to wonder: Do I really need a custom rom? Would it be possible to get the Lineage OS 15 UI onto the normal Honor firmware without flashing something?

Get a Lineage theme and use a third party launcher. I use Pear Launcher. And there's Lawn chair launcher too

Samsung stock ROM motification (TouchWiz removal)

Hello,
While searching for a stable ROM for my "Samsung Galaxy S2 9.7" tablet (because I don't like TouchWiz) I got an idea. Instead of building a full custom ROM for the tablet, with all the bugs/repairs to go with it. Wouldn't it be easier (in my case) to just take the stock Samsung ROM and replace the UI only? I mean could the stock Samsung TouchWiz ROM files be replaced with the stock Android version of files? (e.g. System UI and/or UI framework)
This with the end result of having a already working stable ROM and there by minimizing the bug fixing to just the UI. I'm wondering, is this a stupid idea because this basically requires to rewrite the whole ROM or? I'm willing to study for Android development and develop this myself if it is worth it. (I don't have any experience with Android development but I do have experience with programming in general)
I know it is possible to replace the launcher and/or delete the stock apps, but the notification area and the settings app would still be TouchWiz. I would like to replace this also.
Thanks in advance,
Feonx
Why would you replace the stock ui, when you can get an entire new (and better) ROM with a different ui out there, I personally use CM12.1 which uses the Trebuchet Ui and it made my 4.2.2 android version into a 5.1.1. CM along with other ROMs out there come with some pretty great customisations that you can't get in a stock ROM (even rooted). But if you really want to develop or look for that specific type of ROM out there then go ahead and good luck.
Using CM12.1 on my SGH-T999
Thanks for your response AlienDrew!
Well the basic reason I want this is because CM 12 versions take a while before it is stable. My experience with custom ROMs is that it can be buggy or the ROM is a phone type of ROM on a tablet. I don't see the need for the whole ROM to be replaced if the "core" of Samsung is stable enough. All the work on making the ROM specifically for the hardware needs to be redone if CM is building it. I think Samsung is doing good work for optimizing the experience like for example the battery consumption.
I guess it would be very time consuming to do this. With my idea in mind, Samsung does the core maintenance and the only maintenance left to do (for CM or myself) is the UI witch would be much less work. I would really like to know a Android developers view on this.

Opinions on EMUI

I'm considering the M5 8.4 to replace my aging Nexus 7 (2013) and would like some feedback on the EMUI software experience.
Do you like the skin? Is it similar to stock Android?
Since there probably won't be many ROM options, how is Huawei's track record with updates?
Thanks,
Rick
Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
There should be lots of ROM options shortly if not right away, since the device is Treble compatible as are other EMUI 8.0 devices.
For whatever it's worth:
I am running EMUI - but debloated with Nova installed (I couldn't imagine Android without Nova). I'm also not 100% sure what features are EMUI vs stock Oreo.
There's a "Launch" feature built in to EMUI that allows you to specify which apps are allowed to launch in the background, allowed to be launched by a secondary app, and allowed to run in the background. I like this feature, but if you don't bother setting preferences for each app, EMUI kills background apps somewhat aggressively.
EMUI lets you choose between a collapsible navbar (if rooted you can use Exposed Edge Pro instead), and/or a one-button navigation system using the fingerprint sensor - tap for 'back,' hold for 'home,' swipe for 'recents.' I am using the one-button system in conjunction with Edge Pro and to me it's pretty seamless (but I still have to work on not hitting the sensor by accident).
The dialer and SMS skins are fine. Stock DPI options are a bit high, but you can change via developer options (after every reboot). Stock camera app no longer works if you change the DPI, but you can always use opencamera (or change the DPI back).
The other day I had an issue with background music playback about 45 minutes into streaming music via an old version of eDJing premium. Issues stopped after I disabled Doze (via root app that I had set to run at boot). That's probably an Android issue?
Battery life for me is in line with what I have experienced with every similar phablet I have previously owned.
Anyways, all EMUI 8.0 devices share key things in common, so the dev community is larger than it seems.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I also use Nova and will probably remove some of the reduny apps. I can see myself rooting and using Magisk.

In my opinion the emui is not bad.
The personalization of Android that Huawei made is pretty clean.
However they obviusly add some bugs:
- adaptive icons do not works correctly: you can have only the circular one (even with Nova)
- the resolution of the display or the information that the apps get are really strange: some app starts always in landscape, no matter the actual orientation, other render the pages in strange ways when the tablet in turned fron landscape to portait, etc... Really really annoying
- battery optimization is too agressive and it is not (for me) completely clear how to tune it
- every time the launcher is updated, it switch back to its stock launcher, and i have to set the nova again as default (this can be done just in the default app in the settings). Probably this will happen also for other apps.
The hardware is solid and the battery life is good.
The position of the touch sensor and of the hardware buttons are not imho right and a big design failure.
If you keep the tablet in portrait with the touch button in the buttom: the hardware buttons are almost inaccessible unless you have a prehensile bellybutton ?
In landscape if you try to change the volume with the hardware button your finger will touch the touch button and the current app is "closed" (the tablet swith back to the home screen). This is a software feature (bug?) that i will like to change

Also the Mediapad is now listed as enterprise device. I'd be surprised if they'd stop with updates soon.
As for EMUI:
It's a mixed bag for me. There are 3 annoying bugs which most likely have their origin in EMUI:
- 2 fingers at the same time without instantly moving makes the tablet not recognize the input anymore. (there is a thread on xda about it)
The other 2 are about the keyboard accessory which is probably irrelevant for you (for everybody else):
- flipping the cover from front to back triggers a "refresh", black screen on netflix or a return from edit mode to view mode in xodo pdf
- EMUI always asks if I want to start desktop mode when a keyboard is connected, doesn't matter if you tick the "don't remind me again" checkbox

Squircle works for me. I think all work. I'm not sure they work how they should. Not that I care.

This usually has to do with the apps, not EMUI. Install Rotation Control to force auto rotation across all apps.

This is probably the biggest issue with EMUI. But almost everything is tunable and with root/feedback from other EMUI users, I don't expect this to be a long term issue for anyone. (I started having issues playing music in the background without a charger plugged in - they fixed themselves last night and I'm not sure why. My preferred music player app was last updated in probably 2011, might or might not be a factor.)
every time the launcher is updated, it switch back to its stock launcher, and i have to set the nova again as default (this can be done just in the default app in the settings).

I can confirm that you do not have this issue as long as automatic updates are turned off. I have also seen a general improvement after uninstalling updates to Google Webview.
The one EMUI feature I like that I forgot to mention in my previous post, is Eye Comfort. It's a partial blue light filter that works better than any apps I've found on the Play Store.
Nope the adpative icons do not works, and this is something that you may corcern since this is one of the feature of Oreo and the app on oreo only gave icons to works as adpative. The circle one are just ugly.
Regarding the orietation, the same app works all correctly on my previous tablet and on all my other devices.
Root should not be required to solve implementation problem.
The sotck rom must be as much as posdible bug free.
For all this bug we should blame Huawei: have a look to the support fotum for nova launcher or chronus, just to understand the real situation.
As usual what it is important for someone count nothing for the others

Hi anyone on EMUI in the UK with the 10.8 Wifi version (CMR-W09). Would you please tell me what is the version you are on (Latest). As I am considering going back from Lineage for a short while as there are too many bugs just now. Stupidly I didn't note down what version of EMUI 8 I should be on and there are tonnes of them. Cheers.

SHT-W09C432B151 (8.0.0.151) is what you need
Hey there,
It's not a mixed zone for me:
1) If I wanted an Ipad I would have bought that.
2) I do not like limits in terms of app-drawer etc. (fixed this, now using Nova Pro)
3) battery optimization too heavy: hell, using the keyboard with firefox (nebo, playstore, and may more) is almost impossible as the screen brightness lowers even if automatic brightness adjustment is turned off ...
What I love is:
1) Battery live
2) How it all fits together (So the "Iphoneish feeling" that I cried about above is not my taste, but it's a consistent Design at least ...)
I bought the Mediapad mainly because of the Pen, the Hardware, and the Keyboard(if I am not hating it for ausing brightness trouble...) and these are the things that I really like!
I don't mind emui has some good features and of you use Nova you can make it look stock. I like the themes and the book cover feature. I like the battery optimisation it lasts so well.
I'm trying to get ahold of the stock firmware so I can root mine.

the tab has great features but some disadvantages (brightness bug with keyboard for me ... weird behavior at least)
Best of all certainly is the battery life! And I am using Nova ... That's why the look is not too much of an issue
I do notice the aggressive doze feature.

I decided to replace my aging, but beloved, Nexus 7 2013 WiFi (running LineagoOS 15.0) with something a bit meatier. After much consideration, I ordered and received a 32GB M5 8.4 (SHT-W09) from Amazon UK.
First up, the hardware is awesome. I really notice the difference with the move to 4GB RAM and the updated CPU / GPU. The performance is worlds apart from the Nexus 7 - very zippy, very responsive, games run great etc. The display also is a significant improvement - I really like the 16:9 ratio too and don't agree with review feedback that it impacts eBook and web browsing. It works great for those and just looks incredible for movies and TV. No surprises so far, then, given the 5 year old spec of the N7. On the subject of this display, note that both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix now support HD playback on the SHT-W09. Absolutely brilliant. Audio is fine, I'd always listen through Bose BT OE headphones anyway. The lack of 3.5" headphone jack doesn't bother me in the least.
So, on to the OP question about EMUI. To be honest, I really don't like it. The sheer number of junk apps installed is disappointing, especially as some (YouTube, for example) cannot be uninstalled. Note that of the 32GB available, only 16GB was available out of the box. Adoptable storage has been explicitly disabled in EMUI, so there's no option to use external SD as internal storage. A bit disappointing, but a 128GB MicroSD gives plenty of storage for media, if not apps. Within the UI itself, I miss the app drawer button (I'm sure there's an option somewhere) and it all just doesn't feel "familiar" enough for my liking. The Themes idea is great, but the version delivered with the tab only seems to support local themes - there's no "Theme Store" as such, unlike the phone version of the app. As such, customisation feels limited. I've simply installed Nova and couldn't be happier with the end result.
A really worthy replacement for the king of Android tablets, the Nexus 7 2013, so I'd encourage the OP to give it a go!
@mroshaw similar for me. I replaced my Nexus 7 (2012) by the SHT-W09 and I am quite happy. I uninstalled all the apps I do not use (ebay, facebook, some games, ...) and I replaced the laucher with the Pixel-Launcher. The only parts which still remember me that I am running on EMUI are the top bar and the configuration settings, but I can live with that.
I do not regret having it bought. There are not many Android tablets out offering such a build quality and performance for such a price tag.
I am growing to like the emui. It's got some grand security features. Like others, I uninstalled a TON of apps, disabled others, then I put an AOSP P Dark theme (from here on xda). The theme takes care of the notifications bar icons - I didn't really like the emui ones - plus "stock-ifies" most of the UI.
@mroshaw To activate the app drawer button, go to Settings, Display, Home Secreen Stlye, choose Drawer.
To enable SD card storage, Settings, Storage, Default Location. I have 45GBs out of the internal 64GB once I adb uninstalled bloat.
The deal breaker for me with EMUI is the missing option to plug in the tablet via USB and mount its storage to be visible and usable with any files operation (I use Linux only). There is no HiSuite for Linux and doing everything via adb is just a pain in the neck.
Having said that, the alternative is Lineage OS as the currently only alternative ROM, but this breaks two other things which are a deal breaker as well: No Bluetooth connectivity (its just dosn't pair anything properly), so no BT audio, which sucks when there is no headphone jack. Plus, with a custom ROM you lose L1 security in widevine, so no HD streaming with Netflix or Amazon video.
Fortunately, my usage for the tablet is different from my beloved N7; I mainly use it as a score reader for my piano. I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for the N7; for that I bought the Lenovo Tab 4 Plus and it's a perfect replacement - except there are no custom ROM, But you can root it and the Lenovo UI is pretty much stock.
@DF5JT mtp works for me to access the device's internal and sdcard storage. Probably you need to configure your udev rules to identify your device correctly.

MIUI 10 VS Android Pie

Hello everyone, I am looking everywhere to find a proper review of the MIUI 10 VS android Pie experience but no where i could find. Previously I did participate in some thread to ask similar question but I guess it is not in depth enough and it is not accessible to everyone, so here I would like to do a simple comparison between the 2 OS that I have been using so far. To be fair to developer, I would not mention which custom rom I am on for those as on both, i dont face any major bug that will break as daily driver. AFAIK, everything works fine in both MIUI 10 and Android Pie.
1.)Battery
- this is the most well discussed topic in all ROM. So i will put it as the first topic. From my experience of using both. MIUI 10 have better idle battery time and also usage time. People reporting android Pie have much higher SOT but from my experience. Nop. But of course, one thing i notice obviously is how consistent the Pie drain battery. Unlike MIUI10, it can stay at the 90-100 mark for long time, but then when it drops down to 80+ it will drain quick until 30-50% and then start showing slower drain again. Im not sure is it MIUI 10 done it purposely so people will have that placebo effect of "great battery life", but after all, the final SOT and idle time still show longer time in MIUI 10.
Winner: MIUI 10
2.) User friendliness
- MIUI gesture
Swipe up from bottom to back home. Swipe left or right from edge to Back, Swipe up and hold for like 0.5s for recent. then finally, swipe longer and hold for previous apps.
- the good: It is ergonomic, fast, seamless, and never ONE time failed me.
- the bad: especially in youtube or any landscape mode apps, the gesture will mess up sometimes, sometimes instead of following the screen rotation, it stays in the portrait mode of gesture, but sometimes it DOES change accordingly to the screen rotation. Plus if landscape + fullscreen video. 50% of the time I mess up on the gesture. but it dont takes more than 2 tries to get it correct.
Pie's Pill gesture
middle still act as home button. left navigation still act as back button, but with the missing recent button. It switched to the swipe up of the pill to get you to the recent screen. And by holding and sliding left and right on the pill will allow you to scroll around all your apps just like how you Alt-tabbing your window apps.
- the good: you can copy words/sentence from one page of the the pill pull up to another page. The page is not only a graphical image of your last used apps, but you can interact with the content within. Also the swipe up for recent had gotten faster and easier now to switch between apps. From my usage, switching between apps has become effortless with Pie, slightly ahead of MIUI 10 in this segment.
- the bad: the pill left and right sliding seems like a gimmick to me, I don't use it as often as it seems the recent will do the job. The pill left/right sliding require your finger to be on the screen all the time while sliding, and then release to the apps you landed. The problem here is that you don't often land at the right spot, it scrolls fast sometimes, and the other times, its skipping app to app, one by one.
Winner: MIUI 10
3.) Exclusively Features
- Digital Wellbeing by Pie
This is the best awesome thing I can say happened to Pie. Many of us here are obsessed with our phone. Picking up almost every second our mind went blank or free for a second in our daily life. Digital Wellbeing is one of the apps that I hope it will be matured one day enough to allow us to use our phone in a mindful state. Not to be obsessed with it but not to throw it all together to get left behind the technology.
- Remote control by MIUI
The next best thing that I can do with my Redmi note 5 (whyred) is with the IR, i can control most home appliances like my TV and aircond. Which further improve the minimalism of my dream home because I manage to hide and keep all the controller in the drawer and control all with just my phone. And this is where MIUI did great at. Maybe there are 3rd party apps that function the same, but i dont bother to search one for it as the xiaomi build in one are just great.
- Google feed by Pie/oreo
This is the second most visited place for me in my phone. the google feed, I love reading article, update with newest update, world news, etc.... and this just made my life so much easier. Just scroll the the left of my phone and there i got it. LOVE
- vault by MIUI
The previous MIUI 9 i am using, have integrated (seems of) google feed in the app vault. It function the same by scrolling to the left of your homescreen but ever since I update to MIUI 10. the google feed is gone and no where to be found or make it available. I have tried many way but no. So the temporary solution is to place a shortcut of Goggle app on the home screen. Which is quite pain in the eyes to me.
-Drawer
Speaking of home screen minimalism. MIUI 10 do not offer drawer, while Pie does. So to make a clean and minimalist homescreen with Pie is just a breeze. But not that bad on MIUI 10 either. I group 4 folder. Junk, Google app, Tools, Daily. and just with 4 folder my MIUI 10 is clean. But of course I prefer one with drawer. After some understanding of the MIUI 10 gesture that I love of, it make sense that a slide up drawer like the Orea/Pie will not be able to work fluently. SO ya, we have to sacrifice something else to get the thing we want more.
-Alarm
This is a small issue here. Both winner here on MIUI 10 and Pie. Why? Because MIUI 10 has a smart alarm, which give me gentle wake comparing to those old school alarm we got. The smart alarm offered by MIUI 10 is great and amazing. First, it plays soft music, then it will report the current time, today's weather, and remind you to be happy today. (all spoken in chinese). Yes I am chinese so I understand what it says. I cant find anywhere else to change setting for the smart alarm (language, type, sound, etc) So I will assume it only speak chinese for now. XD
While at the same time, Pie implemented a new clock that the alarm is sync with spotify! Here, I can make one playlist, with all gentle wake up music as my alarm, so my alarm will not sound the same anymore. It's very difficult to comment which is better alarm here. MIUI 10 alarm give me a smile on my wake up time. and the weather today, so I know how i need to wear to my office. while the Pie one give me a fresh new alarm everyday.
-Clock
A quick one here, the clock in Pie remain the same except the alarm+spotify, but the clock in MIUI 10 almost got a complete overhaul. The timer especially, have a build in Zen function to me. You can choose the sound to play thruout the timer you set from Campfire, sea breeze, to forest sound.... Which is a very fast and simple companion apps for me to practice my meditation.... very very very practical to me. Not at all a gimmick feature
Winner: Both, I wish there is a rom that I can mix and match with aroma and to get the best out of both world. Both have their own signature here. especially the Pie with their new Digital wellbeing.
4.) Responsiveness
-First, I don't like to compare the "free available ram". For me this is bs. The ram is there for a reason and the purpose of ram to be there is for you to store temporary memory, so why clear or why you need to have a lot of "free available ram"? Those are unused memory and its just a waste. So as long you are using your phone and your ram still able to cope with your number of "active app" opened .... then you are good to go.
- The responsiveness I am talking here is the buttery and fluidity of the phone. The scrolling seems to be a tad bit smoother in MIUI 10. But the animation of Android Pie is unbeatable. The moment you pull up the recent with the pill, and select any apps, the apps just trigger and fire up seamlessly almost like instant. You still see tiny stutter in MIUI 10 edge gesture especially if you pull up to return to home gesture.
Winner: Still MIUI 10, because of how buttery it is scrolling social apps like insta or facebook.
REMEMBER... this is not a bias review nor an 100% accurate review. It is all base on my personal experience. I have been flashing and trying rom and kernel since many years ago, and I know much or less, and I know what thing is BS and what not. Currently I am still on Pie, but seems like Masik just release their new Masik X. I am very eagerly to jump back to MIUI 10.
For your info. Im a die hard fan of pure android, since the samsung galaxy nexus, to nexus 4, the redmi note 3, and now note 5. I swear by how much I love pure android experience. But today, MIUI 10 is really catching up the game. Be open minded.
Just gonna put this here for y'all

Thanks for showing the image. My review is not to beat out one of those. I love both of it but some bit from each of them. But from your image, i think it will be misleading if you dont explain clearly. SOT depend on usage a lot. it varies from user to user. Plus it depends on ur signal strength on both wifi and 4g. and from your picture, it seems that you are not on your data. and probably thats is the reason you have strong battery life.

thanks for the info. It's logical if that is the case. Normally some user like me have 4g on mostly all of the time which ranging from 25-35 hours of phone usage per charge.
For me:

- Miui 10 better: features ( remote, dual apps, VoLTE, dual 4G, themes... ), mobile signal, stability, stock camera, some Miui based Rom has good enough customizable

Mobile signal should be the same in all the roms (same modem if we want to stay in arb3). However MIUI is more optimist with the indicator.

It's possible to update the modem while your on arb3, without updating the bootloader itself so you can stay on arb3. People on arb4 modems would be all different depending on which update there currently on.

Nothing special for me: format, wipe all, flash Rom + Magisk, restore apps by Titanium Backup, using L Speed to get better Doze

If you mean the icon that represents the signal strength, in android they can be flawed and aren't reliable indicators, need to look at SIM status where it says Signal strength -108 dBm 32 asu that's an accurate number.
Not sure if that's what you meant, yeah modem, and dsp, and bluetooth can all update without the bootloader. :good:
Plus if landscape + fullscreen video. 50% of the time I mess up on the gesture. but it dont takes more than 2 tries to get it correct. @kuance in fullscreen setting there is a option, during fullscreen video or game gesture require two swipe to take effect that maybe the reason

Yes, thats the reason but i do not want to turn that off because i need to secure my video experience just in case i accidentally swipe it off.
@kuance well mate, I totally agree with you. I was a huge Nexus fan but I have to admit that Google has lost is way. Google gesture are ridiculous, they have simply redisigned the old navbar. No gesture at all, no full screen use, no killer feature compared to other OEM.
I would like to consider also security of a rom, and Xiaomi is pretty quick in merging monthly security update.
I have bought whyred to run Los or other custom rom, but I can just say that now I can't find any good reason to change MIUI 10 with any other rom in xda. And it's just because MIUI 10 is simply amazing.
I think that sooner or later Xiaomi wil be involved in some privacy issue, cause I'm pretty sure that a lot of user info are sended to Xiaomi servers. But I'm not an idiot, and I know very well that using a smartphone, any Smartphone, your privacy simply does not exist.

Yo bro, im glad that someone understand the intention of me doing this comparison. I am not here to bash how bad Android Pie is or whatever bad thing it has. As I said, i am a die hard fan of nexus and pure android experience. I remembered my Redmi note 3 pro. The first day I unbox my phone is also the first day I switch to pure android. In the meantime, trying to switch to MIUI trying to "give a chance" to the so called "bloated" OS.... I cant. I give up, and still back to pure android. But it's different today. It seems that the chinese has closed the gap (if not ahead) of what their big brother is doing now... Cheers.
ps: i still hope Google did something amazing like what they have in the past. Well, the new digital wellbeing is great.... and thats all.... even the smart alarm from MIUI 10 is amazing. But that's special case for me because I know that theres not a lot of chinese here.

Vertical recent apps Android 10?

Is there any way to get vertical recent apps on Android 10 open beta? The horizontal recent is pretty much useless as it only shows one app on the screen.
Normally you install another launcher (Apex Classic as an option) and you have it (back).

Tried. But didn't work. I also tried old OnePlus launcher, that didn't work either.

Hmm try using an alternative launcher and freezing/disabling the oneplus launchers
If freezing / disabling is what it takes, that is a pity for bon-rooters. That would really be customer unfriendly. I hate this whole gesture based thing because I use my fix gestures since 2014 when I started using Apex launcher. It would mean I need to reprogram my brains.
Freezing also breaks gestures
Perhaps soon it'll be introduced:

Here's hoping anyway!
I disabled the horizontal recents in pie.
Now after the update to 10, I don't have recents at all.
I reinstalled the oneplus Launcher. Still no recents.
Any ideas?
Is there any solution for this, the recent apps on the oneplus 7 pro is just horrible
Although the 7 pro is a brilliant phone, Oxygen isnt that great : I come from a Samsung with goodlock and i have to say that i am disappointed at the lack of options in oxygen.

Not that I know of, unfortunately. I've actually just forced myself to get used to it....
There is no vertical recents provider in Android 10.
I have looked all over the playstore for an app that can do something like this but sadly nothing.
As an alternative i am using Jina sidebar and sort the apps there by last used.
Everyone complains about samsung's UI and raves about oxygen, but now that i have it i feel very much opposite
Oneplus 7 pro hardware is fantastic certainly for the price i paid for it, but the software leaves a lot to be desired. Sadly the country i live in has no possibilities for returning your purchase, otherwise i would run back to samsung.
Come on oneplus, make some software !
Any updates on this matter ?
When hell freezes over I'll get used to this stupid horizontal app switcher
If at least I could remap that button to one of those third party recent apps, but not even that.
Once ago (android P) I could freeze the default launcher, and things went back to normal. Now, if I freeze the launcher, nothing comes up.
I think back then the default provider was replaced by an alternative provider, which I would gladly download again if I remembered the name. Something with "quick" on it.

better gesture navigation - 3rd party launchers?

hi, i'm still on stock oneui 2.5, and the 3rd party gesture implementation is so bad that bugs the hell out of me constantly. it's just so much bugged that i wonder how did they come to the conclusion that it was a nice idea to upload it as ready.
has it got any better in 3.0? in that case i might look for roms, otherwise, have you found a workaround or a fix of any genre?
i tried onehand operation+ and task changer but it's totally another thing; they don't feature quick switch by swiping up-right nor all the fluidity that comes in the stock launcher.
any ideas?
I have also searched and I have not achieved

so sad that they released something that feels more like a beta than a release and stopped the updates there
You might find FNG (fluid navigation) to be a great alternative.
Rule #1 never update an OS that is fast, stable and is fulfilling its mission.
My 10+ is still running on Pie and it's original OneUI version. No issues.
3rd party launchers are not as stable, are slower, use more battery and are an apk that can boot loop the phone just like that.
Been there, done that.
