Android P overview text selection option and app actions not shown on my pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Guys,
Can someone help me on this
I have installed android P dp2 on my phone and in the settings I searched for overview option it shows that the option exists but when I click on that it goes to suggestions tab in pixel launcher settings and in that this both options will not show up and I don't know what is the problem. Can someone tell me what is happening?

that's a to be released feature.

For me is the same. Some people already have them, but if I go in launcher suggestions I only have one option instead of 3.
So yeah, I think we have to wait for now.

[BUG] ADWLauncher EX Customize Menu failure

I recently upgraded from the CM7 stock ADW.Launcher (1.3.6) to ADWLauncher EX 1.2.2.
Firstly, I want to support the Dev of one of the best and most popular Apps out there.
The Feature I was most interested in was the ability to edit the Menu (I hate that More \|/ dropdown, totally unnecessary clicking).
When I try to do this:
Menu>More>ADWSettings>General Behavior>System Preferences>Customize Menu>
and then uncheck items, and/or move them around, the changes don't stick when I go back to my Home Screen.
Or more accurately, they stick about 1 in 20 tries, but I have found no rhyme or reason to it.
Anyone else experienced this same problem?
I was also discussing this on the CM Forum
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18309-force-adwlauncher-settings-into-settings-menu/
And I'll post a comment directly on the ADWLauncher EX page as well
http://jbthemes.com/anderweb/2011/01/adwlauncher-ex-1-2-2-released/#comments
Workaround
Well, I think this is almost certainly a bug, but I did figure out a workaround.
Menu>More>ADWSettings>General Behavior>System Preferences>Customize Menu>
Make the change(s) you want
Press Back button
Click back into Customize Menu>
Make the change(s) you want again
Press Home button
A way to put the ADW Launcher EX menu back into the settings menu?

I read your post on the other forum and was wondering if you or others have found a way to put the ADW Launcher EX menu back into the settings menu?
Once I purchased the EX version, made it my default, and deleted the regular ADW launcher, the ADW menu disappeared from the settings menu. I also tried to use root manager and move the file to /system/app folder from the /data/app, rebooted but nothing shows up.
Anyone have a solution to this?

Sorry to say, I haven't really come up with anything yet.
For the time being, I have settled on using the Customize Menu option, according to the hack I described above.
Since my [REQUEST] in the CM forum went totally unresponded, I think I will submit it in the Bug Tracker.
Skrki was discussing how Requests should be best handled, but until a more unified (and possibly democratic) approach is implemented, I think I'll just double-post in the Forums and Bug Tracker, and give links to each other.
I asked some devs here as well and they don't seem to know either... Let us know here if anyone reponds to you from the CM forums with an answer thanks!
This continues to be an issue...Customize Menu still does nothing, the workaround previously mentions seems to have some effect, but half of the menu items don't show up at all, regardless of what I do.
It's driving me nuts that I can't access the "Manage Apps" or "Remove Catalog" options...I don't even know what they do but they sound useful.
Has any progress been made on this?
I've tried using the workaround. It works, but not for the "Manage Apps". It is listed as enabled, but doesn't show. By far my most used menu item on stock, wish I could have it here.
I also found that the customize dock bar options dont stick either. Not sure what the issue is
So glad I found this thread confirming that I'm not crazy. No matter what I do the 'Manage Apps' button doesn't show up. Everything else seems to work fine, but this one button doesn't show. This happened on both my stock unrooted Nexus One and on a CM7 Nexus one (both with ADW Launcher EX). Since its been awhile anyone has posted here, as anyone found a solution yet?
Thanks.

[Q] Impact of Themes and Google Now

Hello everybody!
I'm interested in buying the Mate 8 but still have a few question I weren't able to find answers to.
I currently own a Nexus 5 and like the clean look of stock Android.
First questions are in regards to themes.
1. Do they still apply when you change the launcher or this somehow linked to the EMUI stock launcher?
2. Can you change the dropdown menu (notifications and quick settings) with these themes, too, in order to make it more like stock Android? Screenshots of the dropdown menu are rarely given.
3. How easy is it to create themes by oneself?
All in all I'd like to have a clean stock look as especially these bubbles around the icons are a pain to my eyes.
I would prefer to NOT have to flash a custom ROM.
The second part of my questions is in regard to Google Now.
1. Do you have the Google Now cards available?
2. Is Google Now on Tap working?
I hope you guys can enlighten me
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

1. Do they still apply when you change the launcher or this somehow linked to the EMUI stock launcher?
EMUI themes still apply when you change launchers. You can set your custom icons on the launcher desktop, but the themed icon will still appear in other places like the recent apps screen or in notifications. So you will still see ugly rounded square or circle boarder with your icons outside of your launcher desktop. Fortunately this can be solved by installing custom EMUI theme with stock icons, which you can find here: http://foerster.io/hack-huawei-enable-pure-icons-with-no-borders-backgrounds-etc/
2. Can you change the dropdown menu (notifications and quick settings) with these themes, too, in order to make it more like stock Android? Screenshots of the dropdown menu are rarely given.
Themes can change the dropdown menu to a certain extent, mostly changing the shortcut icons. I've yet to see any theme that can make the dropdown menu look completely stock, I don't think it's possible because they operate differently. To me the EMUI dropdown UI looked decent enough (albeit in a different style) so I don't mind it so much.
3. How easy is it to create themes by oneself?
Don't know, never tried it myself.
1. Do you have the Google Now cards available?
I have the international version of the phone (L29), most google services are pre-installed including google now cards. If you get the Chinese version you'll have to install google services yourself, which I heard is a fairly easy process.
2. Is Google Now on Tap working?
You can turn on the now on tap function in google cards settings, but it doesn't seem to work when I long press the home button.
Please note that I'm still on an early EMUI build (B103) and have not yet received any OTA, I don't know if later updates changes anything.
Overall I did get a fairly decent looking UI running on my mate 8. Some UI elements will remain in EMUI style (most notably recent apps and notification dropdown and settings screen) as you can't change those without a custom ROM or at least some root hack, but I don't mind those too much, in fact I liked some of the EMUI design. The worse part of EMUI 4.0 is the launcher and the forced icon background on 3rd party apps, but like I said earlier these can all be averted with 3rd party launcher and custom theme. If you're a diehard fans for the "stock-look" who won't accept any non-material design element then this may not be good enough for you, but it is good enough for me.
@beachletter
Thank you a million times, Sir!
So did I get this right and you also tried to achieve a more or less stock look?
If so, could you please provide screenshots of your dropdown menu and maybe of your homescreen?
Did you own a Nexus phone before the Mate 8, too?
Regarding the dropdown menu of notifications: if I understand it correctly it's more or less working like a timeline, not like on other phones. This can't be changed, can it? I guess I know the answer as themes are supposed to only change the look and not the way things work, but yeah...
This is what my ui looks like after getting custom launcher and material design icon theme.

I like stock icons and stock recent apps screen, but for notification and quick settings drop down I actually liked EMUI's implementation. I used CM and other near-stock rom in my previous phones.
See the post above for screenshots.
Alright, thanks again!
Now I have most of the information I can possibly get to make the right decision. Hopefully I will
Okay, so I've bought a Mate 8 to test things.
While it is really well designed, is nice to hold and snappy as well, I still can't get myself to like the software that much.
I have tried to apply the theme @beachletter provided but it somehow doesn't apply correctly and therefore many icons still have that bubble around it (e.g. Chrome, Play Store). Dialer and Contacts are still the same icons.
Regarding Google Now on Tap: this functionality was added with B152 firmware update which immediately showed up while setting up the device.
Additionally I have to say that the horizontal scrolling in the recent apps menu is even more unintuitive than I've thought it would be.

That's strange, on my phone the dialer and contacts have separate icons (although I usually don't use contacts because I can quick dial any name in dialer to search my contact list) , and I don't see any icon background/border for chrome or play store.
Maybe you should check out the newest version of the theme here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/hack-enable-pure-icons-borders-t3315731
and FYI the launcher I use is NOVA Prime
Good to know google now is back in B152. Unfortunately my phone doesn't get any OTA update above B103 yet. But at least there's no camera focusing issue on my phone, even with B103.

It's not that bad anymore. I installed Nova Prime as well and added icon packs to fit my preferences.
But with the new theme it's working, even in the status bar! Thanks for providing the link!

3rd party launchers - recents tab

I'm currently on Android 10 and reluctantly sticking with the pixel launcher. When I use Lawnchair or Nova I get the the recents tab as sort of an overlay over the homescreen. This happens a few times a day and the only thing I can do to get rid of it is to reboot. This is wicked annoying. Has anyone experienced this and/or know if there's a fix?

I've not experienced this ? although I am using Lawnchair with QuickSwitch on a LC build that supports Q as a recents provider, but I've had no real issues regarding the weird recents overlay stuff.

I also experience this with Nova launcher. I am really missing the clear all button. I am guessing some compatibility issue with the pixel launcher. I typically freeze or delete the stock launcher, however when I froze it I lost the ability to open the recent tab at all.
Im using Evie launcher. Its simple, but does what I want for my Pixel 3A.

I don't use gesture navigation, rather I prefer the old-style three-button system navigation (System settings -> System -> Gestures -> System navigation -> 3-button navigation). I'm not sure this suggestion will help you but it was offered to me through the Discord support site:
After a reboot go into Nova Launcher's settings and scroll near the bottom. Click on "Set Default Launcher". The normal Android prompt asks if you want to "Use Nova Launcher as Home". Tap "Always". It will appear as if the Nova Launcher Settings window is re-drawn. Back out of Nova's settings.
Now when you tap on the square recents button you'll see your recent application list in a manner which is similar to Android 9. Even though you told Android 10 to always use Nova Launcher, after each reboot you'll need to follow this process to get the three-button navigation to work in Nova Launcher the way it traditionally has. So this isn't really a fix but a circumvention for how Android 10 and third-party launcher software work together.

Thanks I'll try that. So far it seems to work. I used to just go into settings and pick there default home there. Fingers crossed!

I sent an email to Nova about this and this is on Googles side according to them. They sent this back
Hello,
You can read Google's official statement and our statement about the issues you and anyone else using Android 10 is experiencing. Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android.
We understand that this statement was made 2 months during a beta of Android 10. However, as is stated in the below URL, this issue will remain broken even after Android 10 is released in its final form, which was September 3rd, 2019. What this means is that Google knew well ahead of time that they had no plans to fix this until much later so it's still a relative issue today.
Google's statement: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/07/android-q-beta-5-update.html
Our statement: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
What this means is that Nova, nor any other 3rd party launcher, can fix or change this in any way at this time. This issue is 100% on Google's end and Google is the only ones who can fix this issue. Their entire statement is below. Please note that the statement was from some time in July 2019, but it still pertains today and will continue to pertain until Google includes a fix for it in an upcoming release of Android 10.
PLEASE READ OUR SIGNATURE BELOW
If you didn't do so this time, please always use Nova Settings -> Contact Support to contact us as this provides us with a ton of useful information that can and will help us help you quicker and better. When doing so, please make sure the supportdetails.txt file remains attached to your email.
Answers to your questions are often found in the FAQ's so please read them prior to sending an email to possibly find your answer without having to wait for a response: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq You can also always access the FAQ's via Nova Settings -> FAQ's.
Yeah, looks like I'm stuck with the Pixel Launcher, which is not too bad really.
I knew Android 10 gestures don't work with 3rd party launcher, but now recents is buggy as well... Almost as if they tied the recents in with the launcher.
Don't want to sound like I'm ranting, but... My Huawei had these gestures since Android Pie (EMUI 9) and it worked properly from day one. Just saying...
I'll have to wait.

Launchers and gestures problems

Pixel launcher has the annoying search bar on its home screen which is irremovable.
Nova launcher is arguably the best for customizability. But there's something that ticks me off when using Nova. Whenever you open recent apps the transition isn't smooth as with Pixel. It has a small hiccup.
(See https://imgur.com/a/lewvZu3 for what I mean)
I tried almost every launcher on the market and they all had the same problem.
So I contacted Nova's development team to give them my feedback. This is what they had to say:
"Hello,
PLEASE READ THIS RESPONSE IN FULL!
You can read Google's official statement and our statement about the issues you and anyone else using Android 10 and Android 11 are experiencing. Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android(Stated March 2019.).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google has no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
This includes things such as the CLOSE ALL/CLEAR ALL button not showing up when you access the Recent Apps screen. As well as a delay of being able to tap on app icons when returning to the home screen from another app, from viewing the Recent Apps screen or anything similar.
These problems will still be there when Android 11 is released in its final form as Google has made it clear it's not going to fix/change things any time soon.
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as contacting any launcher developer isn't the correct thing to do and isn't going to accomplish anything.
SAMSUNG USERS: Samsung has enabled full system gestures to be enabled within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can enable those gestures, but things are still very broken, especially when it comes to animations and how smooth the gestures work. This is NOT something Nova, or any other 3rd party launcher can fix. Only Google can fix it.
In the end, none of this is something we(Nova) can fix or change in any way and neither can any other 3rd party launcher for that matter. It is ultimately up to Google and only Google to fix full system gestures completely. Though they have made it clear that full system gestures will remain broken even with the final release of Android 11 and likely well beyond that.
We understand that this statement was made during a beta version of Android 10. However, as is stated in the below URL, this issue will remain broken even after Android 10, and now Android 11, is released in its final form. What this means is that Google knew well ahead of time that they had no plans to fix this until much later so it's still a relative issue today.
GOOGLE'S STATEMENT:
https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/07/android-q-beta-5-update.html
OUR STATEMENT:
https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers. However, please note, there are still a lot of issues with the gesture system such as animations not working, Close All button not showing up and several other things. This is not something any launcher developer, including us here at Nova, can fix or change in any way.
This is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If you experience any issues at all while using full system gestures, it is highly suggested that you contact Google directly and/or file bug reports with them directly so that your voice can be heard by them directly.
ACTION LAUNCHER'S FALSE CLAIMS: Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019, is actually misleading and 100% incorrect. They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and similar stuff. Full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way.
If you actually try to use the full system gestures in Action Launcher, you'll see they are still as broken as they have been and will remain that way until Google fixes things themselves."
Edit: uploaded an animated gif of the example but XDA converted it to a still image, so I had to upload on imgur.
I'm using Nova as well. Have you also had an issue when swiping up and holding to access recent apps, the apps fill the entire screen instead of showing the smaller preview window?

Just updated to A11 beta and the bugs are gone. It's working smoothly now.
The gestures work fine if you're willing to root and use QuickSwitch with a supported launcher. (No third party launchers support A11 with QuickSwitch yet though)

Question Missing Features after Android 13 update

My S22 Ultra on AT&T updated to Android 13, UI5, and my Galaxy Watch 4 also updated. Certain features disappeared and I've tried every setting that my have gotten changed. I currently switch my Sym between 3 phones (in addition to the S22 Ultra, I have a Fold 3 and a Z Flip 5g), all locked to AT&T. The features that are important to me that seem to have disappeared are:
1. The bubbles and unread message counter on each app icon on the home screen are missing, and
2. The notification indicator on the Watch 4 does not appear.
I'm not seeing threads on this forum or Android Central describing this issue. Anyone else experiencing this and/or any ideas for resolving?

contact Samsung support please
Contacting Samsung was the first thing I tried. All I could find was the interactive "support" tab on the Samsung website. Absolutely worthless for understanding a problem let alone solving it. Do you have another way to contact Samsung support? A telephone number perhaps?
You cannot check which category of the app a notification is from anymore.
App icon badges with numbers is in the launcher settings. Long press homescreen and select settings
Well, that seemed to work. Thank you!
