ADW Launcher EX v.1.1

ADWLauncher EX 1.1 released and ADWNotifier free for everyone
Hi everyone and happy new year!
I’ve released an small update for ADWLauncher EX with the following changes:
Added option to open the app drawer in full screen (hiding the dock/dockbar)
Added options to tweak the “fancy icon backgrounds” (now you can select a custom color and enable/disable glossy effect)
Fix the dock icons reverting sometimes on rotation
Fixed import/export ADW settings for Samsung devices running android 2.2.1 update
Lots of fixes for “ForceCloses” and other stability and code improvements.
And to celebrate the new year and the ADWLauncherEX success, I’ve published the ADWNotifier app free for everyone on the market!

Thanks for the update. This is by far my favorite launcher.one suggestion, is there any way to get the cube and book transition in next release. Keep up the good work.

Maybe I'll try out ADW Launcher EX now that ADWNotifier is free. I saw no reason paying for a "feature", which is standard with Launcher Pro.

loving the launcher
but .... still getting lots of fcs even after the update
sticking with it tho as its very pretty and very quick. As a non-developer not sure what I can do to help with testing/debugging

Can EX import settings from the free launcher yet?

Hey, I installed ADWLauncherEX form market. Now, I'm running into some problems:
The Launcher won't save any settings, I set. In fact, every time I exit the settings dialog, the changelog pops up again. Anyone know, what to do about that?

same thing happens to me..
any ideas?
edit: found it, you have to use an app like root explorer and delete 2 directories located in dbdata/databases.I don't recall their exact name, but they both contained the string "adw" and were almost at the end of the list.

Thanks, that did the trick. Found only one folder cointaining the string "adw", but it worked nevertheless. If it weren't for these internet forums I'd have grey hairs by now.

no worries man..i found one aswell,but most of the people with the same problem wrote they found two..
Nevertheless it works like a charm so..

Launcher works great for me so gar on a Galaxy S. However, I noticed one annoying thing: Loading the shortcut list for applications takes an eternity (I have 300+ apps installed). The same thing goes for the dialog in ADWNotfier, where you can select the SMS oder Mail-App. This definitely needs some code improvement.

Hey, I downloaded the app yesterday and it still wont download to my phone I have the captivate and it just runs a bar saying authorizing i left it overnight and it still has that running so i canceled and redid it, still nothing it wont physically install whats wrong?

I love the speed of ADW EX.
Only significant complaint so far is that there's no direct access to System Preferences from the launcher menu. Shouldn't have to go into sub-menus to access the system prefs.
Question: Is there a way to get SMS/Gmail/Voicemail notifications in the dock?
Both LauncherPro+ and Go Launcher will attach such counts to the relevant icons, but I don't see this in ADWLauncher EX. In ADW Settings > General Preferences > System Preferences there's options for "Show notifications" and "Bubble font size", but I have no idea how these apply. I sent myself a SMS, and though my Notification bar was showing one message, there wasn't anything visible in the Launcher itself.

OK. Got it working. Didn't realize I need to download ADW Notifier as well.
Would be nice if the notifiers were smart and only wiped the numbers after you actually read the email (for example) rather than as soon as you open Gmail though. That's how Go Launcher seems to work.

So far I'm liking this. I am having a problem, and I don't know if it's a feature or a bug. Every time I swipe down on any part of the screen the notification bar will come down. I switched back to Launcher Pro and it did not do this. Also when switching to the hidden dock it drags the icon form the normal dock. I would also like to see a way to change the dock backgrounds like on Launcher pro. And I'm with saltorio, It would be nice if there was a system prefs from the main menu. But I could get used to it where it is now. Keep up the good job.

So is ADW ever going to get some widgets similar to LPP? Would live to give ADW a serious consideration but having to pay for other apps just to make up for ADWs shortcomings doesn't make sense.

[Q] Is my ADW missing settings? (screen shots)

So I downloaded the ADW launcher for my TF and Opened it and got everything situated how I wanted it then I went back into the market to get some themes and I can't figure out how to enable the themes. In the top right side of my screen I click and open a window with edit, settings, ADW settings ect and select ADW setttings and theres not really any settings in there. I have included a couple screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about. Maybe i'm just dumb and am missing something.

I have the same issue and was told that it's not compatible with Android 3.2 yet. So we just have to wait until the Dev can fix ADW.

[Q] Screen Shot RLS8 Reinstall touchwiz

Can anyone tell me how to take a screenshot with the RLS MOD Rom? I installed apex launcher as default so I am not sure if I need to reinstall to get back to all those apps or what because there are many of my apps missing that I can see in root explorer. I can not find the option to change the launcher.

Come to think of it the Pop-up browser is missing, the weather widget and other things as well? I am not sure why I can not find any of those things and I am by no means a first time flasher and can and have do pretty much anything on a phone. I relly just dont have time to research it becasue I work so much.

Setting>Motion> Check Palm swipe to capture then do a palm swipe.
When you go into the app drawer in apex you have three headings up top: Apps, Downloaded and Widgets. The "Apps" heading has everything.
Also go into Apex Settings>Drawer Settings> Hidden apps and make sure something you are looking for isn't hidden.
If you really want to get touchwiz back go into system settings> Application manager> Apex Launcher and hit "clear defaults". Next time you hit the home key it will ask you if you want to use apex or TW.

[Q] Access stock laucher settings?

I am trying to get support for a widget app (Fancy Widgets) that doesn't seem to display quite correctly (seems to be using a font that is a bit too large in their widget ... a font larger than what was used/displayed on my old Droid 4).
The author wants me to try changing some Launcher Settings, like Grid size, as part of their debugging.
How do I do that? The author suggests a long press on the multiple task key on the lower right. I tried that, but nothing happens Well, nothing but getting the expect list of tasks running.
Honestly, I have never seen a place to change the stock Launcher Settings, on any of my Motorola android phones. But I am stuck that the author seems pretty insistent that I do this, and doesn't want to provide further support until I do.
Again, does anyone know if there is a way to get into the stock Launcher's settings on these phones?

No, the settings you are describing pertain to 3rd part launchers, not the stock launcher. I believe the app dev is mistaken.

[Q] Auto-Rotate not working for Android screens

I just started using my first Android phone 2 days ago, so this is probably a really dumb question, but I've figured almost everything else out and this one not so intuitive.
When I'm in the home screen or the alphabetical list of all apps, if I turn the phone horizontal it won't switch to landscape. It only rotates if I open the keyboard. The settings menu and most apps auto-rotate fine, so I know the phone can sense it right., it's just the basic Android screens that won't landscape unless the keyboard is open.
I'm using CM11 from 21-OCT-2014 and the only extras I've installed are gapps, k9 mail, firefox, google translate and google wallet. The "Auto-rotate screen" box is checked, as are the "0 degrees" and "90 degrees" rotation mode boxes.

Probably depends on the launcher (home screens and app drawer is handled by launcher). Some have a setting to enable it, some don't...

I dunno if this is normal behavior, something I can change in a setting, or a bug in something, and if so what?
Not quite sure what a launcher is, but I only installed the stuff I mentioned before, so I assume my launcher is whatever comes with CM11 or Gapps.

Done, and it worked! Thanks much. Any explanation as to why editing a system file was necessary to do something that seems to me should be automatic? Will I have to do this again after updates or anything?
(Of course nothing is simple the first time; took me over an hour to do this; figured easiest way would be from terminal, but had to find the file without a whereis command, then didn't know how to hit "ESC" when trying to edit with VI since there's no ESC key on our keyboard, finally found it in a menu, then wasn't able to save cuz readonly... tried again after su but same result, considered changing permissions but since I really didn't know what I was doing, did a web search, found a tutorial for editing it with ES file manager, which I installed, but the 2-year old tutorial had different menu structure for putting ES into "root explorer" mode, but finally got it modifiedt, saved, rebooted).

And I still dunno what launcher I'm using. After posting I did some web searches earlier, seems CM has its own launcher (forgot name, something that sounded french), and GApps has a launcher, but I read the CM version of GApps (that I used) doesn't change the launcher, but I also read the launcher from GApps is the one that will pop up google now if you swipe on the side of the screen, and that keeps happening to me (by accident as I'm trying to figure out how to use this thing) so it seems I have the GApps launcher. I dunno.
My problem is solved as mentioned in previous post, just rambling as I'm trying to understand all this.

Just upgraded CM to new version and had to do this again. Is there any way to make this more permanent?

Use a different launcher? Nova, GoLauncher, Apex, Aviate, etc... most should have options for this.

Is there no way to fix it permanently in the default launcher? I'd just rather not use too many add-ons unless truly needed, but am getting tired of looking up this thread every time I update CM so I can find the text I need to re-insert. I'm happy to figure out how to submit a real bug report but dunno if it's a CM issue or google issue or what...

There's no bug. This is by design.
If you don't like it, you can change the launcher or keep doing the build.prop hack.

Curious... why do you think it would have been purposely designed this way? I just assumed it was one of those things that worked right for some phones but not others or something.... There's already settings to turn off rotation (and to select which specific orientation to allow rotation), so if someone wanted it off for some reason they should be able to turn it off that way...
Either way, if it's not a bug report, then it's a feature request, either way I'd like to at least *try* to get it changed before I give up and try an alternative. I'd imagine the developer or whatever wouldn't want people switching to alternative launchers if there's something he could easily fix fix anyway. And I imagine since it's so easy to fix by editing that file, it can't be that hard to fix in the program or whatever, and since supported in other launchers it's not some system limitation or something...
Anyway just my thoughts. I'm still very thankful for being told the workaround, and I'll probably figure out how to write a shell script that adds that line for me so I can just run that after each update (instead of looking up this thread and manually editing a file on an annoying little device). Android is all about choice, you've been given several workarounds which fix the problem.
Other than that, this is how the stock launcher in CM is designed. A lot of people don't want the home screen to rotate when the phone rotates, I'm one of them.
