Guys,
My phone started to behave abnormally after updating to may 10th google play services. I constantly lose wifi and my phone gets frozen. I gotta retart it in every hour.
Also whenever i send a location it says "google services are updating" i uninstalled services and it updated itself then problems started again.
When the phone get frozen the heat increases like crazy and the battery depletes itself enermously if i dont restart it.
When i lose wifi i cannot see any other wifi networks in the settings. I lose them all and it appears as if there are no wifi networks.
I also wonder if this could be a battery issue? I will reset to factory settings tonight if noone has an answer to this.
Thanks. I am on aura 2.2 rom the latest version
I am also having an issue with google play services. I am using sport tracking apps and they all show google play services updating.
Do you also get random crashes and freezes? I checked many forums, it is very common among huawei users right now. It has affected many phones and you can find many complaints about it. But google provided no support right now.
I also read that factory resetting is not solving the issue. So i am not gonna waste time on that and wait for a new update.
But i can tell for the first time i regret using a huawei phone. Deeply loving it made me cover its faulty updates but i got tired of restarting the phone hourly
I had the exact same issues you described. Google Street View, Uber, and other apps would display 'google services are updating' and not work at all.
Fixed it by leaving the Google Play Services beta testing channel. I'm now running version 12.6.73 (040400) and all's back to normal.
On the other hand my P20 is still on the beta channel 12.6.73 (040408) and no issues.
There's an ongoing thread about an issue which seems what you're talking and is specific to Huawei phones. My problem related to this, is that I can't logon on Chrome... More details in the link below

Hi, on my Mate 9 in my Car with Android Auto, the Google Assistent dont run, and says everytime when i activate it: "There is no stable Internet Connection"
I hope google or Huawai will it correct it
Hello,
Same problems with my Mate 9 MHA-L09
It was said that this bug is reported by many people in Google issue tracker. Lots of Google Maps apps such as Uber and Taxify don't work well. It looks like wide range of Huawei devices is severely impacted by latest Play Services update to version 12.6.73. A good news is Google is working on it.
Two temporary solution for an end-user to try:
1. Clear cache & data of Google Play services
2. Go to Setting - App - Google Play Services, disable it to go back factory version.
Restart the phone and go to Google Play Store to do the update on Google Play Services.
Wonder if this is the same "bug" I've been having trouble with. Sometimes, & I can't nail down how it happens, if I wake up the phone, and it could have been screen off for 5 minutes, all night, 20-30 minutes...no pattern, that after waking it up, tap on anything and it might be 10-20 seconds before it does anything. EVERY app is like that. I thought it might have been with Nova launcher, but that doesn't seem to be it, rebooting the phone appears to "fix it". Just dumped cache on play, stopped, uninstalled, rebooted (play store isn't showing any updates, still at 11.xx). I'll just watch it and see how it act.
By me its help Temporary, Everythings run until the next restart of my phone and my smartwatch must reset to
So far, almost 24 hours later, dumping the storage, stopping, "uninstalling" the play services, and going back to the stock one (11.xx) seems to have cured my "lag". Everything is snappy again.
Can someone confirm that with this issue ongoing you can open events in the Calendar app? If possible from an Exchange account...
Currently I open Calendar, select an event, it opens and immediately closes. So Calendar now is also unusable for me What's going on?
Thanks!

I am solving the issue by hard resetting, uninstalling play services and when i update sometime later my phone starts losing wifi and battery is getting drained incredibly fast. Something gotta be related wtih the play services but no solution yet

Yes it has been fixed (sic!) with version 12.6.85 from version 12.6.73. The big errors have been fixed on software such as Uber and Map programmes. Still awaiting to see if the hardware problems are sorted, (my phone would be hot to the touch to the extent that glue on the phone cover would soften and become pliable).
To summarise.... So far so good.
I can confirm, I have upgraded to 12.6.85 earlier today and so far so good.
Clear now
So far, almost a week into the update, no issues on my end with the phone lagging.

I have 2 phones and 2 tablets all of them set to not auto update. Yet once again this AM I'm on the train and my damn phone updates about 10 different apps. I'm in the middle of playing a game which slows to a crawl while Google takes over my device. Finally get home and start my tablet and guess what the sob starts updating. I'm beyond frustrated with this so if anyone has a 100% guaranteed way of stopping this behavior it would be greatly appreciated

each app has an auto update option in its settings, you may want to check there and see if its still set to auto update, even with the main settings turned off.
if thats the case, you would have to manually turn them all off.

Thanks for the tip but I still cannot for the life of me stop auto update. My second phone hasn't been used for about 5 days so I turned it on today. I have both data and wifi off on it. I go in and double check everything is set to not update. Turn wifi on and within 1 minute its updating 9 apps
If it was only happening on one device I would suspect that its an isolated case but all 4 can't have the same issue. I tried freezing the play store function and my tablet started doing some very strange things. I'm relatively new to android (8 months) and the only problems I've ever had were all related to the damn play store. In case you haven't figured it out I REALLY hate the play store with a passion.
Anyone know how to contact google direct via phone?

I was going to suggest freezing the play app, but didn't because I thought it would cause issues.
Alternatively, you could see if the amazon store has all your apps. If so, delete the play store and see if amazon can be controlled to do what you want.

This seems very strange. my N5, stock and unrooted (5.01) battery was getting bad so I replaced it with a unit from ebay. It looked like a genuine OEM battery but I suspect it wasn't.
And despite all the videos on Youtube etc. saying you can prise the back off the N5 without breaking anything I managed to break two tabs
Anyway after I put it all back my first heartstopping moment was NFC had stopped working, both for charging and for communications. A quick Google search revealed that was because the back had not snapped on properly so the antenna in the back was not contacting the motherboard contacts properly. A quick press of the back the case, a click and all was well,
But now the phone won't do trusted face or locations which it did before. If I go to trusted face and choose improve face matching I receive an error Couldn't start finding your face. And now face unlock never works as well as trusted location (my home).
I can't believe a new battery would affect that but perhaps somebody in these forums might have some knowledge of this problem?
I will wait for 5.1 to see if it fixes the problem, else I guess I have to live with it.
Thanks
Sounds like maybe the front facing camera connection might have been disturbed during battery installation.
If it was me, I'd go into the camera app and see if the front facing camera is working properly.
If not, pull the back off again and check around the camera for anything loose. Verify your antenna connections.
Best of Luck
That one of the first things I tried and the camera is fine. Also GPS works fine so trusted location should work.

As you mentioned, waiting for the 5.1 OTA is going the be the best option short of factory resetting and losing all your data.
Hopefully the OTA will fix it for you when it arrives to your device.
If you prefer not to wait on Google, you could Download the 5.1 OTA and ADB sideload it using the STOCK recovery.

You are completely stock. Unlocked or Locked bootloader. No root permissions.

The problem is not from your battery.
Trusted places and faces are broken after the last Google Play update on a number of Nexus devices after they added the "on-body detection."
Some users get it to work, some temporarily, but it is not an issue with your new battery. From the forums i read, some users (not Nexus 5 ) got it to work by turning smart lock off and on, re-doing your locations in google maps, side loading the Google Play Services apk, uninstalling the Google Play Services and reverting it to previous version (mine is grayed out.)
I notice huge battery drain coming from the Google Play Services then I disconnected the GPS and it was no longer draining. I am assuming it's having trouble or a bug where it's searching my location for the Trusted places and draining my battery. This is only an assumption though. Hopefully it will be fixed in a future update. I still have not found a fix for my N5 or N7 2013 yet.
Just so others are not put off ive changed my Battery with no issues and have taken the back off 6 times. No clips broke. It is important to make sure all clips are pushed home and you should gently press the back allover as there are a lot of connections on the back that need to make contacts with the board

Not sure if that applies to me. I had the problem after I replaced the battery (though it could be coincidental) but before 5.1 where I understand is when on-body detection was first implemented.
I managed to get trusted places to work by walking around my section and getting the phone to recognise a new location which is basically the same as my home but with a different name. That seems to work but I still cannot get face detection, either with unlock or improve matching.
I found the reason for my large battery drain, it was one of my weather apps refreshing through Google play Services. I also did a temp fix for Trust Places like the other user did. I added two places next to my house, close enough to all cross each other. That did the trick for now.
Here's what worked for me
I got a phone call when my Nexus 5 was locked and instantly Trusted Face crashed and gave me a force close message. Here's how I managed to fix it:
1) First, I removed the existing face data and turned off Trusted Face.
2) From Settings --> Apps --> All, I found Trusted Face and Cleared Cache, Data, Force Stopped the app and then disabled & enabled the app.
3) Rebooted the phone holding the power button (Not through the menu)
4) Turned on Trusted Face and registered my face.
5) Then I had coffee, but that's not relevant to the case.
Note: I know some of the above steps are unnecessary and repetitive, but nothing else worked for me.
Good Luck !
Thanks. I tried that and now Trusted Face is working again.

I'm glad it worked.
Few days ago, around the 15th of october I started having every few seconds crashes of the google play services.
The error is java.lang.illegalArgumentException wakelock not active.
The frequency of the error makes the phone unusuable.
Initially I though the problem was because I was on older stock release (KTU84Q). Due to a problem I had with my car bluetooth with newer versions I choosed to keep 4.4.4 stock.
So I let the phone make all the incremental updates (OTA) up to the last one (5.1.1 LMY48B).
Unfortunatelly the problem with play services did not go away. So I did a full wipe and went through the initial install procedure. A few minutes latter, still while setting up the phone the crash came back. Except the ROM apps at this point there are no other apps installed. I notice the crashes happened when play services was updated right after I set up my google account.
The play services version that crashes is 8.2.99. I downgraded to 8.2.98 and I still have the crashes. So I went down to 8.1.15 and no more crashes.
The problem is that after a while the phone updates to 8.2.99.
So the questions are:
Is it only me that has this problem?
How do I fix this?
In any case how do I prevent the update of the playservices?
After little search I found the solution.
I had to enable privacy guard and then enable KEEP AWAKE of Google Play Services.
Has anyone noticed that Timeline in Google Maps doesn't work properly most of the times? A lot of times I go to places and later on I find out that Timeline haven't had detected my travel time and location... If you haven't noticed, I suggest you keep an eye on that and see if that's the case.
Me too.
But actually only since the update to Nougat.
Same problem, with the same phone. Some days have no data, and other work perfectly. I have tried lots of reset and reinstall and I have no idea why it randomly works.
It is probably because Maps may be being stopped after your screen gets locked. Go to Settings -> Battery -> Close Apps after screen lock and unselect Maps from the list of apps displayed and see if it helps
Made sure to check that Maps wasn't selected in the close app after screen lock thing, but timeline still isn't working. If anybody has any other ideas they would be much appreciated!
I have this exact problem as well. I don't know that causes it.
But I have a different phone - Huawei Mate 9 pro. That's where the problem is.
My previous phone, Huawei p9, did not have this problem at all...
Exactly same here. Huawei Mate 9.
Someone solve this issue?
My timeline isn't working at all. I cant even view my timeline in my maps. It shows 'Cant connect to maps. Try again in a few minutes'. Anyone else facing this? Any solution for this?
Same problem with my HUAWEI Mate 9: location hardly recorded in timeline. I have disabled stopping of app when locked for Google Maps and any other app that might relate to it.
I guess that HUAWEI implemented other aggressive power saving routines, which conflicts with the timeline recording. Did anybody observe this exact issue on a phone from another company? Having such unexpected and undocumented behavior in the operating system makes me suspicious agains the Chinese producer.
Would be great if somebody could find a solution, work-around, or at least an explanation.
BTW: I'm surprised to see so few postings here. Is this issue discussed on a more popular place?
I've been observing the same problem recently, some days it tracks my timeline perfectly and on other days it thinks I spent the day at home, despite being out and about for up to 10 hours at a time.
Using Mate 9 L29 and its been happening on multiple different firmware versions
Me too, I guess the issue is from the software.
Or may be the google app issue too
I have the same issue with my honor 8, any fix?
I have the same problem with my P10.
Before I had an HTC one m7 and I had no problem at all.
Did anyone find some solution?
I used to have this issue with my Honor 8 but now it works as it should. So, I don't have a specific fix for it and I don't know how it started to work suddenly but... A few months ago my phone refused to connect to any WiFi network and I had to send it in to get it repaired, they replaced the board and the WiFi was working.
And well, I noticed that Google Maps Timeline was working all of a sudden, and it still works. Weird since a board replacement shouldn't have fixed the Maps Timeline it since it's most likely software related.
Does anyone have an update on this issue? I've experienced the same thing since I bought my Honor8 a few months ago (timeline history doesn't work/works very infrequently). Could it be due to a defect in the onboard GPS? Or is it purely a software bug?
Same issue with my mate 9... I've found no fix. I've tried clearing all cache, disconnecting the account, and reconnecting the account to google location sharing, but with no success
I got the same **** ?
I have the same problem as OP with my Huawei Mate 10 pro EMUI 8.0, Android 8.0, Security Patch 6. November 2017.
But i have find out:
I have 3 different Google Accounts. When i delete the two and work only with one, the timeline will be logged in Google Maps.
So i think it hasn't to do with power savings in my case.
Google Maps Timeline does not know how to log with more than one Google Account.

That can't be the case;
I've been using two sony devices for 5 years, with my 3 google accounts, and I have like every day logged in my main account.
Then I switched to the shiny new Mate 10 Pro... FML.
Recently on my Note 10+ (SM-N975U1) running stock Pie and Dec 1 2019 update, I have been experience 2 issues.
Notifications for some apps are delayed
App updates hang on Google Play Store
For the app updates, they stall with "Download Pending" or the download stalls with <100% complete.
Resolution steps that have NOT worked
Clearing cache and data for Google Play Store
Rebooting phone
Rebooting into Safe Mode
Changing from Wifi to Cell Network Data and vice versa
Stop/starting app updates
Current Workaround
Closing/swiping the Google Play Store and opening it again. It will eventually complete downloading after multiple attempts and install/update an app - you will have to repeat this continuously for every app you want to install or update.
Is there anyway to debug this without doing a complete reset?
This is a problem I've had on many phones over the last few years. It took me a while to figure it out but it's bluetooth related. More specifically, I had the "Dynamic Lock" option enabled on my Windows 10 work laptop (which basically just locks my pc when my phone gets far enough away). I disabled this and now all my notifications come immediately and play store updates work as they should. I realize that you may not have that enabled and if that is the case then turn off your bluetooth for a while and see what happens. It worked for me and several others on the samsung community forum.

Thank you! I turned off Bluetooth but nothing happened but after I rebooted with Bluetooth off everything started to work again. Is there a permanent fix for this? I am assuming turning back on Bluetooth will cause this to happen again? The strange thing this never happened to my Note 8.

I have no idea why this happens. What I do know I have had this issue on LG phones, Pixels, and Motorola's. It isn't a Samsung thing. I think it's an Android Bluetooth issue.
This is an old thread - but in case someone else finds it, I came across someone's suspicions in another thread that their Plantronics headset was causing some kind of problem with their Bluetooth. I began unplugging my Savi headset when not in use and it seems to help... YMMV.
This has been going on since Pie; made me upgrade from my Note 8 to Note 10 and it came right back. Infuriating.
You may also want to try to rub a lucky stone and do some chanting as well, because it's about as effective as hoping for a fix after all this time.
