Huge CPU usage after update Google play services 12.7.x - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I got these problems these days:
1. My phone looses wifi signal and cannot reconnect again.
2. I activated cpu monitor from developer option and see huge CPU usage some time and fast battery draining.
3. Some time (when my phone cannot connect to the WiFi) I tried to soft rest the mate 8 then the phone hang and I have to use hard reset to reset the phone.
After that I checked my apps to find the problem and I saw the Google play service is updated to v 12.6.73 then I uninstalled the update in installed Google play services v 12.5.29
The problem is solved now but unfortunately the Google play services update automatically and then the problem begin again.
I cannot find any solution to disable Google play services automatically update .
(I have disabled automatic update from goolge play store but problem exist)

Battery drain in airplane mode (> 1%/hr)

OS: 4.4.2
Several of us have noticed a significant battery drain even in airplane mode, > 1%/hr . Typically, we've seen >10% discharge overnight.
Here is an example. Put it in airplane mode all night and had location services disabled. Here's the result, > 1%/hr drain. This was with Google Play Services 4.1.

This thread is to collect our observations, experiences, and hopefully find a resolution to this annoying issue. The MOTO G should, in theory, have bad-ass battery life.
Here are the further steps I took in determining a root cause.
1. Do a factory reset.
2. Full charge, leave it on charging for an additional 30mins beyond 100%.
3. Allow play store to update all built-in apps.
4. Add google account, and select the usual items for sync (no location!).
5. Disconnect power cable.
6. Discharge down to < 10%.
7. Full charge
8. Activate airplane mode.
9. Disable location services.
11. Lock screen
12. Disconnect charging cable.
OS: 4.4.2
Google Play Services: 4.0.34
So far, 5+hrs and no decrease in reported battery level. It is still showing 'charged' (i.e. it has not dropped to 99% yet).
Next test: Determine the effect of updating Google Play Services to 4.1
1. Update Google Play Services to 4.1 (newest one)
2. Use normally thru the day.
3. Fully charge phone at night.
4. Activate airplane mode.
5. Disable location services.
6. Lock screen.
7. Disconnect charging cable.
Google Play Services 4.1.31 was not available on Google Play for me. Here is the apk:

So when you upgraded to kitkat where you still on goole play services 4.0.34 ??
And if so where did you get google play services 4.1. If it was as an update on the playstore then fair enough but if you have downloaded it from elsewhere then maybe the 4.1 is not supported on moto g running kitkat etc. ie are you creating an issue yourself - of course we dont know yet if google play services is the cluprit anyway.
From your above post it seems your battery issue is fixed with bog standard kitkat, ie you say 5hrs and no drain yet.

Unfortunately, I can't be sure when I noticed the >1%/hr drain - whether before the google play services 4.1 update or after. The update that I installed was signed from Google, and the whole point of it was to decrease battery drain. I find it unlikely that it was the root cause of the battery drain. But, as you can see in my above, I plan to run an experiment to determine the effect of google play services 4.1 update.
I got the google play services 4.1 .apk from here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...player-new-google-drive-api-preview-and-more/
Btw, 7hrs, and it is still indicating 'charged', and has not gone down to 99%!

In installed Google Play Services 4.1. After going thru the same procedure, I am down to 97% after 3hrs using airplane mode and location services off the whole time. Perhaps Google Play Services is the culprit. However one of you mentioned that you observed the drain even with 4.0.3x ... strange. Maybe there are two difference phenomenon in effect? Will let it run some more to confirm the drain rate - then will revert to 4.0.3x to complete the A-B-A test .

Did a factory reset and the usual basic setup. This time around, my phone was automatically upgraded to google play services 4.1. I found the .apk for 4.0.34 and reverted to that. Then charged to full, and enabled airplane mode and disabled location services. After 2+ hrs, it is still at 100%!
I'll let it run all night to confirm. However, from the looks of it, it seems that google play services 4.1 is causing a ~1%/hr discharge in airplane mode with location services disabled. WTH google? I thought 4.1 was supposed to deliver *better* batt life.
Anywhoo ... will report in the morning.

I'm getting a 0.8% drain with everything disabled but 2G. Strange as this doesn't normally happen with me. Can't find a way to reduce it...
I had the same issue. With Google Play Service 4.1 I have 1% in 8 hours at airplane mode now. For me the manual upgrade did the trick. Battery seems to be better over all.

Okay, here's the morning report. With Google Play Services 4.0.34: 9+hrs in airplane mode and location services disabled and still at 100%!
Then, did a factory reset, and the usual updating of factory apps - which also updated Google Play Services to 4.1. Full charged. Now, I'm down to 98% after < 2hrs.
In summary:
Factory reset and Google Play Services 4.0.34. 0% discharge after 9+ hrs.
Factory reset and Google Play Services 4.1. > 1%/hr discharge.
Sigh, any ideas .. ?
Interesting. May have to downgrade my Moto x and try this as well. I'm getting 1 percent per hour loss with airplane mode or not. No real difference either way...which isn't right.

Just to be clear:
With Google Play Services 4.0.34 you had > 1%/hr drain in airplane mode.
And now with Google Play Services 4.1 you have 1% in 8 hrs in airplane mode.
Questions:
1. Was the previous Google Play Services 4.0.34 for sure, or was it 4.0.33? Because the phone initially comes with 4.0.33.
2. Did you do a factory reset each time? If not, did you have other apps installed?

Make sure you try 4.0.34, and not 4.0.33.
Please do report your findings back to this thread.

JB 4.3, Google Play Services 4.0.34, I uninstalled the updates so it's 3. something, still draining around 0.9% I'm tempted to get my bootloader unlocked and do some real digging, like change governors, etc.
Btw I also had the drain on 4.4.2 with everything updated.
Using Google Play Services 4.1
Just noticed that my wifi was set to always available for scanning. Even though wifi was off, phone in airplane mode, and location disabled - the battery screen still showed 25% drain due to wifi. However, the battery was discharged down to 96% in < 4hrs. 25% of that only accounts for 1% ... the rest of the 3% still discharged in some other manner ..
Recharging back to 100%, and disabled always available for scanning. Will see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, I think I have grounds to replace the phone. Can't think of anything else to do .. battery drain with a factory reset and airplane mode ... sheesh.

Have you tried this specific combination: KitKat 4.4.2 with Google Play Services 4.0.34?

I haven't. I've just updated to 4.4.2 and did a factory reset. Going to start from scratch with no extra apps, and add slowly to debug it.

How to fix Google Play Services Has Stopped ?

Hi all.
Out of the blue I got this error message every minute.
I use Unofficial Beanstalk ROM 5.0.2.
Stock kernel.
I cleared cache, and Dalvik. I also cleared cache of Google Play Services and Google Services Framework.
But this error keeps coming back.
I haven't changed anything in the phone nor have I messed with any system settings.
I can't find any decent solution to the problem.
The apk shows version 7.5.71 (1955121-438)
Appreciate your help.

AFAIK, there is no "decent" solution at this time.
Please change your Location setting to Device Only. It will stop the FCs for the time being.

No one knows why it happens or how to solve this? wierd.
How is this related to device location settings?
Out of nowhere I get "Google Play Services" has stopped working messages like every 20sek. Working with the phone is impossible and my Moto 360 doesn't work anymore either Using Stockrom CM12S with franco kernel, any ideas or solution?
Same problem here. This is so annoying!
Will try "device only" now. AFAIK this uses only GPS to get your current location - so this should dramaticly increase battery drain, right?
This trick didn't help
Same case. I am also getting these errors. there are solutions people have posted to disable GPS. But the phone is useless when it is without GPS.
Waiting for a fix ASAP.
For me it actually did! In another thread another solution came up: try enabling "keep awake", "wake up" and "autostart" in Privacy Guard for the Google Play Services. This also worked for me (although my Privacy Guard was not enabled for the Google Play Services the settings still did matter! So make sure to really enable them in the submenu!).
The random crashing seems to occur when:
location "high accuracy" PLUS Google Play Services are limited in Privacy Guard (keep awake, wake up, autostart)
Disabling one of the two should fix the problem.
BTW disabling GPS didn't solve the problem for me. "device only" means you only use GPS and not network location. The network location thing is what causes the crashing in combination with the Privacy Guard. So (at least for me) no need to disable GPS.
Looks good. Let me see if there is any issues now. I remember we all changed the "keep awake", "wake up" and "autostart" in Privacy Guard for the Google Play Services in an older version of Google Play Services.
Hope this is all fixed now and should not drain the battery (as it did in previous version).
How I solved the Play Services stopped FCs
Hardly this last version of Google Play Services will work properly, either clearing the data, blocking services on Privacy Guard, etc. Tested many things and the problem comes from the last update of Play Services, which includes in its changelog suspiciously some "Location Api improvements".
In my experience these last days the problem it seems to come when the services requests for location. If you use Apps asking frequently for locations you'll have the error very often, making usefulness your phone, as least mine. Using 3 Apps needing GPS location at same time is frustrating..
How I solved for now:
Go to Play Store, find Google Play Services in your Apps
Click on Uninstall (only will uninstall the last update of Google Play Services).
From that moment, some advice about certain Google Apps (Hangouts, Google Maps, etc.) may appear if you have these Apps installed. Ignore them, otherwise you'll need to update again if you want to use them, but...
But I can't find google play services in play store.

having strange wifi problems.

When using wifi, my mate 8 will remain connected but the internet does not function sometimes. The wifi works because usually im using my PC at the same time. But ive noticed it hangs on other wifi connections too. Im not quite sure whats wrong, i turned on my data speeds and it downloads 307 b/s while doing this strange stuttering. It usually causes youtube errors or some game apps that make you watch ads will result in a splash screen error message. Not quite sure whats wrong with it but its annoying having to wait about 30 seconds for it to load my webpage even if the wifi was just working fine a second ago. Any tips or help? Anyone experiencing the same thing, im on B352 AL-10 firmware.
Hey there! I am having the same issue and drives me nuts as I don't have a proper data connection at home.
I currently have the same problem. I have to restart my phone and I do that, all related apps to google play stops as well displaying a message "google play services are updating". I found a work around this issue that I downgrade "google play services" using apitode then updating the service using play store.
But is really frustrating to do that 2-3 times a day.

Can't Download or Update Apps via Play Store (Watch Version)

Now I have get this trouble that I am unable to download new apps or update existing apps via the watch version of the Play Store (both do not progress from "download pending".
I have read about different soloutions:
https://productforums.google.com/fo.../DoIB9mtIY20;context-place=forum/android-wear
I have tried everything exept factory reset. It is not even sure that factory reset will be the solution, and I am not so happy about making a factory reset (because I did that recently when I changed Phone.)
Anyone else here with the same problem?
Perhaps an there will come a android wear update soon that fix this
Are you using internet over bluetooth or using wifi?
in either case check so that google services are not blocked in your region.
and try this steps:
go to seetings/app find play store and then clear data and cache (in the watch)
turn wifi off from settings
connect the watch to your phone through bluetooth
connect your phone to a working wifi network or cellular data with good speed
now go to play store and see if its working
Thanks for the tips. I have tried that but it is not getting any better.
Have tried using internet through phone or with the watch wifi or 4G.
I do not know about google services in my region but I live in Sweden and it works fine on my phone.

After factory reset it works again!
What I've had luck with thus far
Experienced this exactly with ZTE quartz and pocophone. Download pending and nothing you can do but reset the watch.
However!!! Following an advice in this thread, on the watch (after reset) I quickly disabled automatic updates of play store (open play store on your watch, drag from the top, tap the wheel, mess around there... it's easy to find) - then manually updated everything over Bluetooth EXCEPT THE GOOGLE APP (you can update Wear OS, just not the Google app) and for a few days now everything seems to work fine with downloads from the play store.
Just that Google Assistant on the watch only responds with on-screen text, but doesn't respond vocally without the update to its watch app. And I'm afraid of updating it :-\

[PRIVACY] When you force stop & disable Google Play Services, does that one action alone change your Android 12 Settings to remove Google spyware?
As part of the research in the thread on Google Maps no longer working only with GPS, and as a follow on to preventing Google from turning on Wi-Fi location scanning, I noticed something really INTERESTING when I forced stopped & disabled Google Play Services.
STEP 1
Google Play Services is running and Google Maps exists on Android 12 (but I'm never logged into anything because my phone is set up for privacy, which means there are no Google or Samsung accounts).
STEP 2
I force stop & disable Google Play Services.
STEP 3
That immediately causes Android 12 to complain about Google Maps not being able to work.
STEP 4
No big deal. So I force stop & disable Google Maps.
STEP 5
That not only stops Google Maps from complaining but that removes Google Maps from my homescreen.
STEP 6
Nice. But it also does two very interesting things (probably more I haven't noticed yet).
STEP 7
Notice that the Android 12 LOCATION SERVICES menu is now COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
(I tested this twice by re-enabling Google Play Services so it's definitely repeatable.)
STEP 8
Interestingly, even the Organic Maps offline maps app had its settings COMPLETELY CHANGED!
(Again, I tested this twice and it's consistent that these things are directly related.)
In summary, by force stopping & disabling Google Play Services, two things immediately happened.
1. The Android Location Services "google alert crap" was all completely wiped out (yay!)
2. Any app that had a switch for "Google Play Services" location spyware was also wiped out (yay!)
I just did it a few minutes ago and everything else seems to be working just fine (I will report back tomorrow)......
Can someone who knows more than I do about this shed some light on what's going on?
