Phone charges only with certain charger - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone didn't come with a charger so I had to buy one off ebay. The thing is my phone will only charge with said charger and no other, but will charge with any cable plugged into my laptop.
Is this by design or is there a weird issue with my phone? Anybody else had similar issues?
Thanks.

htc car charger compatibility?

Are accessories compatible across all htc models? I have an old htc car charger, which would obviously need an adapter for mini/micro usb, but otherwise is the power output etc all the same?

Apparently mini and microUSB have the same pinout. It should work.
I bought a Motorola microUSB rapid charger for mine. It was listed as compatible by the vendor... we'll see I've been using Motorola chargers with my G1.
Make sure your charger can provide a full 1A, not 500mA (standard USB current). I've found the phone can draw nearly 500mA under heavy use, so the battery doesn't get much charge. My G1 actually draws more power than the charger supplies when doing navigation...

Except I already have a charger (if it works) and an adapter should be significantly cheaper...

Usual Car charger vs. USB Car Charger

It is not a secret, that charging over data cable is slower, rather than over electrical plug. I think it is due to USB max current is 500mAh, while my direct charger output in 1000 mAh.
I wondering if the same is relevant to car chargers. I'm having the one of so-called USB Car Chargers, which has the USB plug as output, than you connect it to your phone thru the data cable.
If I buy a usual mini-usb car charger, would I get any benefits in charging speed?
Thanks.
usb max current is 500ma on the spec, you can draw much more than that over the copper.. as long as it's not being regulated by "compliant" circuitry/drivers, you should be able to draw 1000ma
Ive been looking into this tonight, and I checked my GF's iPhone wall charger (which is basically a wall USB charger) and it outputs 1000ma as well, and ive found a few usb car chargers putting out 700, 800, and even over 1000ma... only problem i have is i need it to be compact... i currently have a 500ma one in the car but that didnt seem to really charge the phone...

The reason I am asking is similar:
When I am driving with gps and 3G turned on my phone is never fully charged. In fact, it seems it even uncharging a bit. I am wondering if the same happening with usual mini-usb car charger.
And if I want to buy new on ebay, they never specify the mAh parameter.
I bought a 1000mAh USB car charger for a couple bucks at monoprice.com.

same here... when i have the turn by turn going on full brightness and such it does uncharge a bit over time... but look on the bright side, its not getting raped as much as it would be if it were just using the battery

I mean link to the item you've bought.
If I search for micro usb car charger I would get only this:
Motorola V8, V9 Series Car Charger for RAZR2

Hmmm... they don't seem to have it on their site anymore, which is odd cuz I ordered it only a month ago. Here's the info off my e-invoice:
Product ID-3523, Car Charger (Cigarette Lighter) to USB Female Converter - Black $1.16
You might want to email them and ask when they'll have them back in stock.

Samsung PMA wireless charger won't charge S6?

I got this charging pad (http://www.att.com/chargers/samsung-pma-7-wireless-charging-pad.html) with my S6 when I bought it. However, it has not worked at all. Whenever I put my phone on it, the blue light just starts blinking; the charger doesn't charge the phone. I have tried different outlets with different wall adapters and different microUSB cables, but nothing works. However, the S6 works fine with my Duracell PowerMat and my Qi charger. Is anyone else having this issue with the PMA (or Qi) OEM Samsung wireless charger? Any tips? Thanks in advance.
Yes...not sure what's causing it.

I just read the reviews on AT&T's site and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue. I'll probably try to get an exchange.

Anker PowerDrive +2 Quick Charge 3.0 makes Xperia XZ shuts down

Dears,
Recently, I bought car charger (Anker PowerDrive +2 Quick Charge 3.0) that makes a weird behavior with my XZ. When I turn off the car, the phone turns off too
if you plug the car charger out, the phone turns off.. if u plug the cable out from the phone while the car is on and the charger is plugged in, phone doesnt turn off.
I found two sony talks about the same problem
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ/In-car-USB-charging-XZ-auto-shut-down/td-p/1167260
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...ther-with-car-if-I-m-charging-it/td-p/1203501
I tried another anker car charger (Anker powerdrive+ 3.0) and doesnt make the same problem.
Do you know if it is a SW problem? or I shall just through away the Anker PowerDrive +2?
Thanks,
I have the same issue! Same charger anker, makes same in different car also with the anker

This is odd... Anker tests say that it is compatible with the XZ. but seems this Anker model was not tested with the XZ. I have the Anker Powerdrive +1 car charger (has one usb port) and it works fine.
Mine is the 3.0 but with 2ports one for qc2 other for qc3, i think thats the issue with the 2 port charger

True, the one with one port works fine

Fast Charge + Belkin Cable = No charge?

Hey guys,
So got my S8+ and so far very happy. I'm having an issue of sorts, where if I use the original wall adaptor and a 3rd party cable such as Belkin, my phone says it's charging but the percentage stays the same. I've tested this with a brand new Belkin USB-C 1.8M cable and a USB micro cable using the included adaptor.
It was on 8% when I went to bed, and 8% when I first woke up. Changing the settings to disable fast charging made them work, but this seems like it could generate a lot of problems for people who don't even know about fast charging, especially as it's on by default.
Anyone else noticed this?
Sounds like a faulty cable.

I originally thought that, but surely can't be the case if I have two cables doing it? And if it charged fine without fast charging, is that still a possibility? As the only thing that changes is voltage I believe?

Your belkin cables are ok BUT not compatible with fast charging. I THINK the phone must talk some way to charger to enable fast charging but your cables are not transmitting that info to the cgarger.
I advise you to buy original samsung spare cables.

I know this, but generally if the device detects that the cable is not compatible with fast charging, it falls back to normal charging. That's how it was with my S7 Edge.
I'm just imagining all the people reporting their phone as faulty when it's not.
