I know this is a recurring issue with this phone.. I got it last month (April) and never got this issue. However we got the may update yesterday and ever since then it has been out of control. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Hi,

I'm on the verge of buying a Nexus S but I am now reading about many freezing issues where the phone loses all responsiveness after the backlight goes out on occasion - the only solution being to pull the battery and reboot, only to have it happen again.
This thread shows that some people are returning their phones to Samsung and are seeing a fault diagnosis of 'bad BGA' and a fix of 'PBA replaced'
Original Problem:
Technical Inquiry
Phone Freezing / Locked U
Freeze/Delay Between Menu
Problem found:
BAD BGA COMPONENT
WARRANTY, REPLACE PART
Solution:
Replaced PBA
Passed All Functional Testing
Just how wide a problem is this, is it something that will affect pretty much everyone at some point or are these cases failry isolated?
edit: I am buying from someone who has this phone on contract so I am wondering also if I will be able to get support from Samsung should I run into this problem. Are warranty issues dealt with by Samsung direct or are they passed through the carrier when originally obtained on contract?
Any thoughts?
never experienced any of these problems. you have a 30 day return policy (maybe less now)

Unfortunately not, see my edit above.
Also, it seems users are running into this problem after owning the device for a while, taking them beyond their 28 day / 30 day return
i've had mine since it was first available and never had any problem like this.
I've also never seen this.

same. ive had it maybe like a 1.5 week after release date
It happens to me if i mess around with custom kernels and o/c speed but so far if i use netarchy's stable CFS, it'll be fine. No freezing and having to pull my batt.
It happens if i use hornity or some BFS kernels. Haven't tried Jame Bond yet to test it out.
i think the OP is confusing the SGS issues with SNS
the SNS doesn't have any of those problems listed.

the thread the OP linked is Nexus S
only time that has happened to me is when i overclock to 1.4 ghz and the phone can not handle it
Ok, it's encouraging that this isn't affecting everyone but still a bit worrying.

Wrong - as zephiK has pointed out, the link is to a whole load of people having issued with the Nexus S, NOT the Galaxy S.
I believe the most problems with smartphones are in software, not hardware. And software could/should be patched/updated.
and this is one of the reasons that preventing me from walking into cpw and buying it tomorrow.
I am Having this exact issue with my phone. it is unusable the phone freezes every 20 minutes. Hope Samsung finds a fix for this soon.
I just got my nexus s the other day but I haven't had any freezing either I hope those with the issue get it sorted out though
loading another ROM would help, or perhaps it might be a hardware issue, in which case, take it back for an exchange

Happens in stock rom, and many other custom roms too. So I dun think its the rom problem
oh dear, this is exactly what I'm concerned about. Any pattern as to which are affected by this, ie just slcd or just samoled? Only a thought.
I shall soon receive my second nexus s and I really don't want to have this problem!
I'm using the i9023 if that info helps.
Yes thanks but it's not what I wanted to hear as the chances are that this is the one I will receive.
I've heard of people reporting successfully fixing this with a full reflash, others say it's a hardware issue.
Keep us posted.
Had a problem with very low sound volume on the headphones, so I replaced the phone within the 30 days... google backup restored all my apps automagically...
Observation....
On my old phone I always had a 4-6+ second delay when accessing the 4g/wifi network (browser, maps, etc...) and I thought this was just normal...
Well it's not normal... The new phone has less than a second when connecting. Opening apps that connect to the internet just come striaght up without delay...
I've seen issues like this when the initial DNS entry was bad, but Im not sure if this was the problem here...
Not sure why the old phone had the initial connection problem, but this replaced phone ROCKS!
I'm having the same issue, except my delay seems like more than a minute. I guess I should exchange the phone as it has only been 6 days. My phone was manufactured on 4/11, so I guess it's part of the first batch problem phones.
Did you get your first G2x when it came out around April 20th?
Lol soo by putting resolved on the thread you meant resolved by replacing phone....lol
I actually thought you had figured something productive out and wanted to share it with the community....
G2X

That's the exact same thing I was going to say. It sounds like the "resolution" is to get a new phone. lol Well in that case...I have a resolution for those who have "light leakage" ......wait for it....here it comes....EXCHANGE THE PHONE! lol
The DNS problem has been mentioned many times before. Just install Set DNS from the market to fix the problem.

I wonder if this is a software problem that will be resolved with Gingerbread update... hopefully.
Anyway, now the problem has really been resolved. Thanks.
By chance, I was the 1st one to get the g2x at my local store on day one...
I did notice that this new phone though I was in Asia when I first turned it on... The market picked up all asian apps until I used the gps...

I got burned by waiting for a software update by tmobile/Samsung to fix their vibrant GPS and lag problem which never happened. Never again.
The g2x is the new phone standard IMHO, and anything less is going to be returned from this point on.

Unfortunately, the Set DNS app (with phone rooted) did not fix the problem.
Exchanging the phone today. This one did not have major screen bleeding or reboots... hopefully the next one is the same.
I installed Busy Box a few days ago,and works great... then i installed MM about an hour ago,but whenever i launch MM it does it's "check" and says it doesn't see or detect BB... why would it be doing so?
[update] FIXED
What did you do to fix it?
I stressed out over this too, my solution was just restarting the darn metamorph app and everything worked just fine.
Thanks I just wanted some constructive advice or tips on how to fix this since the issue has been reported and the community has been asked for help; yet the answer was found and totally disregarded to make any note of it for anyone else who may have any other similar issues and come looking for a solution.

sorry about that... i wasn't getting notifications to my thread like i was suppose to.
i just reinstalled it (BB) and it recognized it,must have had a bad instal or a wonky APK... but all is fine now.
Calls drop often. Usually within the first minute, and then every time when Im calling back after 10sec. The phone itself does not lose signal. Strange thing is, if I'm getting phone call after first/second drop, phone continues connection without problems... But Only when Im receiving a phone call not when Im trying to re-call someone.
- I tried replacing my sim and the issue persists. No problems with other phones using this Sim (even in the same locations).
These are pretty annoying issues. Anybody else experiencing them? Is there a different radio I can try for the phone? Is there any log I can access showing a reason for the call drop, or any trouble shooting I can do? This seems to be independent of WCDMA Only/Preferred/GSM/WCDMA (Auto) settings. Or if, how to change these settings?
Note: This has nothing to do with the network. I've been with the same company (Orange Europe) for about 2.5 years, and have never had this happen before. This has been consistent since I got my OnePlus (about 1 week ago)
That's true. I'm experiencing this as well for quite some time now. At first I joked and said: Hey, the NSA joined our conversation.....again. But after some time it really annoys me. This has nothing to do with the ROM or kernel as I have tried out various combinations. What I found out is that it got better after I returned to stock CM 11s with stock kernel. But it's not gone completly.
Honestly I neither know how to fix it nor what is causing the problem. Try to reflash the CM11S 25R firmware and see if it gets better. I think something is wrong with the modem software since CM11S 22R,25R and CM11 builds are using the same modem software. Maybe the announced update for the end of this month or early next month will fix this. I really hope so because a phone which is not able to hold a call, can't be considered as a real phone.
Oh im pitty You, If You'll get something just please let me know. Any advices or help will be appreciated. Maybe waiting for new CM relase will solve the problem, I do rly like this OS even with so many bugs... there is always an option. Move to stock 4.4 published by OP on official website.
Anyone else facing the same issue? Was there ever a fix for this issue? I'm on 38R and still encountering this issue
Same here.
See this thread for answers and work around. No solution as of yet.

Hey People,
Unfortunately, I have a little problem with my One. It runs barely a day without random reboot. When I load it over night the One reboots always . I have already opened a ticket in jira. Unfortunately, there is still no answer came. Maybe you have an idea. Last_kgms files attached to the jira ticket.

Hey. Re-flashed the complete stock firmware two weeks ago without flashing another rom. Seems to fixed my reboots. Thinking about trying cm12. Not sure how stable it is.
