My battery status doesn't go higher than 98%, even when it's docked or connected to AC and as fully charged as it can go. Is there a way for me to reset the current, fully charged battery state to 100%, so that's used as the baseline and there's no unnecessary charging?
Hope this makes any sense.
Thanks!
Ron
Just search for it. There are multiple threads on it. When it's completely dead you need to plug it in and reset your battery stats w/ CWM.

I did search, but couldn't find anything. I guess I used the wrong keywords...
Anyway, I did reset the battery stats using CWM, but that didn't make a difference. The battery status is still reported as 98%, even when in a dock and connected to AC. Are youe saying I should completely drain the battery before doing resetting the battery stats?
Thanks
Ron
It sounds like that's what he meant. I'm going to try it, because my battery indicator only goes to 97%.
(Don't worry; 'search' never seems to work very well for me either.)
Got the thread on it:

I'm going to try this as well. I'm having the same issue.
Cheers!
I've had this issue coincide with my installing TnT 5.0
In my case 96 % ceiling
Now a week later it's only charging to 94%

Tried this. Doesn't seem to make a difference. It still maxes out at 98%. I don't know if this is an issue, but I just don't want the battery to charge constantly, even when connected to AC or docked.
Does anyone know if this affects the battery lifespan?

Mine is maxing out at 95% even after draining and resetting it. Do we have any other fixes at all?
Do you only use the HTC charger that came with your phone? MicroUSB is MicroUSB and it will charge from any charger BUT I have heard that different milliamp chargers can cause undesired effects in the battery (of any phone) such as decreased lifespan or less battery life in the short term. Any truth to this? Only reason I ask is because A) I'm curious and B) I got my Sensation yesterday, charged it with the stock charger at work but left it by mistake. When I got home, I charged it with another charger I had lying around. After 8 hrs off the charger, I had dropped from 100% to 99% (awesome). I then made a phone call this morning for 6m and used the display for 15m and it dropped to 94%. I then left it in my pocket for another hour and it dropped to 90%. I don't get it! :-(
Two separate issues here:

The official HTC charger is 5V 1A. Some other chargers, such as car lighter chargers and USB ports only give out 0.5A, so charging takes much, much longer. In fact, if you use a 5V 0.5A charger whilst continuously using the phone for something battery-intensive like sat-nav, the charge will still drop, but not as fast as if it were not charging at all. You'll get a warning on the phone something along the lines of "the charger is not sufficient to charge the phone and use it at the same time" (can't remember the exact wording). make sure you use 5V 1A.

This much I know. But they aren't all 1a. My old Defy charger was like .8 and this is 1a. I'm not referring to charge times. I pointed out your GPS point to an OP in another thread. I'm referring to if using a different MA charger effects the quality of the battery or how long it can run on a charge.

Conclusions?
How many amps can one charge at?
I see car charger product that claim to output at 1a, 2.1a, even 5a.
Then I see that it may not matter what the output of the device is: that unless the cable you use to charge shorts the center two pins together, you will only get .5a.
Bump.......
I've always understood that a "trickle charge" or a slower charge is better. I only charge via usb for this reason. It takes much longer to charge, but supposedly it charges the battery in a better way and it will discharge slower.
Any truth to the battery conditioning tips I've seen about letting the battery charge and drain 3 times completely when new? I have read that these lithium batteries dont require that but I keep seeing conflicting info.

There are apps and processes that are part of the system that can drain power like that. Having a bad signal and constantly dropping connections can run down your battery. Did you pick up watchdog for free on amazon yesterday? That can tell you more about what is using the cpu.

High? My HTC Desire drained 1.75% per hour with CM7, so 2% for a dual-core phone running HTC Sense is pretty impressive, IMHO.

If you read up on the reviews, you will see that the Sensation has achieved <1%/hr drain with items syncing.
Im really anal and I dont open my phones accessories if I dont have to lol. I have been using a spare MT4G charger and its working fine. It is rated at 1 Amp like the factory Sensation charger is though.
For those wondering, as slow as these batteries discharge you will probably not see any gains in performance when you trickle charge a battery (for example over USB) over using the stock charger. It is recommended you fully charge the battery and fully discharge it the first time you use it. The battery life will get better after a couple cycles, yes they need to be "broken in". Like all rechargeable batteries they will degrade over time, it is inevitable. Since OEM batteries are so cheap these days I personally dont go too far out of my way to "properly" charge and discharge my battery. It will die when it dies, at that time I will just buy a new battery.

Wipe battery stats?
If that even works on this device, I know it was just placebo on Samsung devices.
Yes you wipe battery stats through custom recovery. But you need to calibrate your battery as well. Each time you switch ROMs, be sure to do this. I was having same issue except mine would hit 30% then instantly drop to 5%. Calibrating the battery and a few setcpu tweaks fixed my insane drainage.

Which App? All you need to do is go into CWM and wipe battery stats. Anything else you use will not work right on this phone. After that it needs to be 3 "FULL" battery cycles (fully charged to fully dead, or to 5-10% at least, then fully charged again).

Literally from one second to the next it goes down 10% or so. Don't have another battery but my wife has the same thing. Does it after a factory reset as well as after installing 60 apps. Before and after battery calibration. None of it makes any difference.
The only other thing I can think of is that a certain battery percentage kicks in a certain lower clock speed and that that process kicks 10% of the battery. Not likely in my mind, but possible.

After about 3 weeks after making this thread I still get the same thing.. From 30% down to 20% in seconds sometimes it happens at around 40% which is utterly absurd
I have also noticed this problem sometimes, when I do run it that low. My jump is from around 30 to 20 percent. I did wipe stats a couple of days ago after I flashed swiftytrix from ICS leak 1. However, after wipe stats, I didn't discharge to completely dead, but close to it. Does that matter?

DON'T ever do this! Discharging a Li-ion battery completely WILL decrease your battery life.
Next, the battery calibration app is nothing more but a hoax. It only deletes a file containing the battery stats which is ONLY used in the battery statistics screen in settings.
So please, DON'T!
It's true you get the same result from the battery calibrate app by wiping battery stats in recovery. Draining your battery does decrease battery life of li-ion batteries, same goes for your laptop. The theory to cycle your battery is a myth and actually wrecks your battery.

The 0% reported by the operating system is actually a bit higher than the voltage at which li-ion batteries will become damaged. Any modern phone should not allow you to discharge the battery to the point where it could cause damage.
Also there was an employee from Google IIRC that said wiping battery stats was useless because its only a file that keeps track of what apps used the battery and it wiped automatically when charged to 100%.

I admit, when that happens, the battery circuit is probably in a dumb state and it _may_ be useful then. But doing this regularly is incredibly dangerous for the battery. Yes, some phones bias the battery reading but the post suggests to actually force it empty while turning it back on and on and on and that really kills it.
Still, using the app is just pure nonsense.

You do realize why they make the reported 0% above the actual 0%. If you drain a lithium ion battery to actual 0% you'll permanently damage it. Also calibration is only useful if you want the OS to read the battery percentage more correctly. Lithium ion batteries themselves work perfectly fine with partial charge cycles.

That doesn't make any sense - you're stating in that post that turning on the phone damages the battery.
I will state this again: if you force your phone on and on again until it doesn't react, you may and on the long run probably will damage your battery. If your battery is not removable, this can also easily brick your device as seen with HP Touchpads.
If you feel that you must do something, simply drain the battery _once_ then charge it. This is the only thing that a sane electric engineer will ever advise.
Well that worked on my phone... i said that do at your own risk.... actually i am saying the same thing that drain your battery.. but if battery is not calibrate sometimes phone goes off even on 36% and if u charge at that point to hundread then that method will not work...
