My battery status doesn't go higher than 98%, even when it's docked or connected to AC and as fully charged as it can go. Is there a way for me to reset the current, fully charged battery state to 100%, so that's used as the baseline and there's no unnecessary charging?
Hope this makes any sense.
Thanks!
Ron
Just search for it. There are multiple threads on it. When it's completely dead you need to plug it in and reset your battery stats w/ CWM.

I did search, but couldn't find anything. I guess I used the wrong keywords...
Anyway, I did reset the battery stats using CWM, but that didn't make a difference. The battery status is still reported as 98%, even when in a dock and connected to AC. Are youe saying I should completely drain the battery before doing resetting the battery stats?
Thanks
Ron
It sounds like that's what he meant. I'm going to try it, because my battery indicator only goes to 97%.
(Don't worry; 'search' never seems to work very well for me either.)
Got the thread on it:

I'm going to try this as well. I'm having the same issue.
Cheers!
I've had this issue coincide with my installing TnT 5.0
In my case 96 % ceiling
Now a week later it's only charging to 94%

Tried this. Doesn't seem to make a difference. It still maxes out at 98%. I don't know if this is an issue, but I just don't want the battery to charge constantly, even when connected to AC or docked.
Does anyone know if this affects the battery lifespan?

Mine is maxing out at 95% even after draining and resetting it. Do we have any other fixes at all?

I just got my Gtab that I ordered from ebay in the mail yesterday.
The guy already had clockwork recovery installed and TNT, but I wanted Vegan, so I went through the steps and installed Vegan 5.1, let it boot, and then rebooted and installed the supplement 5.1.1.
The thing works great (except I can't get any market fix to work, but I'm just gonna use titanium backup to get the apps from my phone for now).
But the thing that's really bothering me is that the battery level is staying at 100%. It's not going down at all. The GTab died overnight, and it wouldn't even power on, so the battery was dead.
I plugged it in, and turned it on, and it's showing as 100%!! When I goto settings>about phone>status it force closes. Every time. Using spare parts and looking at battery history it says there is no history to display, and in battery info it says battery is at 100% but says it's charging.
I'm really confused. Do I have a dud battery? Please help as if this is a hardware/ bad battery problem I'd like to tell the guy on Ebay that I want a refund.
Does the charging light come on red, and go to green after it's charged?
You might try wiping battery stats with Clockworkmod, and see it that helps.

Same thing happens on my Gtab. Battery meter always shows 100%.
I know that the battery is not 100% full because when I plugged it in, the LED light is red and after a while it turned green.
I will try your suggestion tonight when I get home.

Yes, the battery light indicator seems to work fine. It is red, and then eventually turns green. But I'm a little worried, how long should I be expecting a good battery to last with brightness pretty low (around 15%) and just doing some browsing? I was guessing 8-9 hours.

I haven't tried to drain the battery. I always use it for a few hrs then plug it in.
Does any body know how to fix this problem?
thanks.
Try to drain it all the way, then plug it in and immediately reset battery stats.
Reboot and charge all the way ( green light)

I tried this but it still doesn't seem to work right. After following your suggestion, I used my gtab to browse the web. After about 1hr of browsing, the battery status changed to 97%. It does not seem right to me. Btw, my lcd brightness is set at 50%.
Or is the gtab battery that good?

They are threads here on how to correct - usually draining the battery and then resetting the battery status on clockworkmod.
It's really not "Stuck" at 100% - the battery meter is probably off so it's maxing out at 110%, so your device just says "100%" all the time. What eventually happens is that 110 drops below 100, and then your device will show 99, 98 etc. I had this issue on my original GTAB.
I had this and first total drain didn't work but 2nd time I just made sure it was not sleeping when it shut down from low battery.
Hi guys,
I've noticed that if I plug my phone to the wall charger, when it reaches 95% it just stops charging. I can unplug it and plug it again, and I can reach 100% by repeating the process multiple times, but not in one sitting?
Is this normal? Does it happen to you? Does it get better?
Same here
(Using SuperAosp-ST 4.4)
i have that 2
I got to 98 once !

as far as i know, its an known bug
Its by design - charging the battery to only 95% level & then the following discharge. It elongates the battery life. It should never charge to level's exceeding the above.
It's not a bug.
Most batteries lifespan drop if being on high voltage too long (100%)
So usually manufacturers will try to let it state it is fully charged before it even reach 100% to extend the lifespan of the battery.
But if you really want to see it charged fully you can do a battery stats wipe in recovery after a ROM flash. It will be able to charge to 100% fully.
Hope that helps.

tried this methode, but no success.
i come from a X10 and SE build in a charging algorithm: battery charged fully, hold this value for one hour and let the battery fall till it reaches 90% and charge again.
do you mean such methode to extend battery life??
the phone from my boss (i9020) charges to 100%, my (i9023) only to 96%
96% is ok, as i said, being in high voltage often kills the battery. 96% keeps it's lifespan much longer.
Being said that, even extremely low voltage kills the battery too. So usually your phone will die before the battery reach 0%
Not this again
From the FAQ post, in this very forum, which should be read before posting a new thread:
Q: I unplugged my phone, and my battery dropped from 100% to 95% immediately, or it won't/takes along time to charge past 99%, what gives?
The answer leads to this informative article about what your battery gauge is telling you, and why 100% is probably not what you want ...

While I thank you for your reply and linking to that article, that is a related issue but not exactly the same. The usual behaviour is for the battery to indicate a 100% charge and then drop to a lower level, as you bolded in your post. The behaviour I'm talking about is it never going over 95%.
Not a big difference, but enough to notice the change and ask about it. Don't you think?
I myself own a GT-I9020T & have never seen the charge levels exceed beyond 95%.
You are right, your description is subtly different than the post in the FAQ. I have to admit laziness in assuming that they would be one and the same 'problem' ... apologies if they're not.
Well, you did give useful info even though you thought it was an old, tired question. I can't see a reason to give apologies there
Turn the tethering on while charging; it'll charge the battery up to 100%
I think my Vibrant had the same issue / feature. It's probably a Samsung feature and not a bug.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Mine hits 100pct sometimes but will always stop charging until it drops below 90. A good feature to save the battery. Makes 0 sense for it to be charging every time it drops 1pct for hours at night while on the charger.
I'm wondering if people seeing a difference in the overall charge cap is a matter of rom? I've been using cm for practically ever but I know some people are on stock. I'm sure it's possible something is modded in there to make sure it hits 100 before it stops.
Just a thought.
On nexus s with stock rom I was able to charge to 100%

I have done bump charging and everything I can think of to get my battery to top off at 100% when I remove it from a power source. Every single time though it drops to anywhere from 95-97% within a minute.
Do I need to clear the battery stats and hope for the best? Do I need to request a new battery from Verizon?
Also, to clear battery stats do I need to run the phone down to nearly dead, clear stats, then charge it up? I have conflicting info on when to clear or if it's even a wise idea on the Thunderbolt.

I've been wondering about this as well. Good question
I always turn the phone off, charge to 100% then boot and immediately clear stats. After that let it drain till dead. I like to let it charge back up all the way with the phone off. Then use it normally. Always worked for me.

If you leave it on the charger for an extended period of time it will always drop off a few percent rather quickly. A new battery will not fix that. From what I understand it is a feature that helps prevent overcharging. As for battery stats I only clear them if I switch from a standard to an extended battery or sometimes if you flash a ROM when not already charged to 100% and notice the battery has gotten worse.

This. The battery charges to full and then will stop charging to prevent overcharging. Also it's good practice as said above to clear stats after loading a new ROM or switching out batteries.
There is an app on the market called battery calibration which walks you through step by step the proper way to calibrate it. Obviously you have to be rooted but you can clear stats without having to reboot into recovery. Of course you can run the new Das Bamf rom with their toolkit which also has a clear battery stats option in it.
What I do in the mornings when I wake up after charging all night, is reboot and continue to let it charge until I walk out the door.

This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051 explains why this happens.
Basically the battery meter is lying to you when it says 100% right when you take it off the charger, it's actually a couple percentage points below 100%. This is because keeping the phone at 100% while on the charger shortens the battery life.
So basically don't worry it's normal.
Everyone: I know why it happens and that it's normal.
I am talking about why after I do a bump charge and keep recharging it to 100% (i.e. take it off power, let it dip to 95%, put it back on power, charge till green). After it immediately goes green I pull it off and less than a minute later it's down to 96 or 97%, for example.
Hello. This issue has been going on for a while now. But when I take my phone off the charger when its not fully charged. The battery percentage keeps going up. Battery stats are wonked out.
Do you have Clockwworkmod recovery installed? Or is this a pure stock unrooted?
EDIT: Mr. Jacob, what are you tense about? LOL ! Just kidding....
Try using an app called battery calibration (can be found in the app market) when the phone is fully charged. This will reset all the battery stat logs and set your 100% to a true 100%
I have clockwork installed. I'm running SkyICS rom. And I have already tried battery calibration.
PS: And nothing really xD its been my screen name since the early Xbox days

Battery calibration does nothing. Normally I wouldn't recommend that u COMPLETELY drain the skyrocket battery as its lithium based and can cause dead cells, yours needs calibrating, and wiping battery stats or using a battery calibration app won't help (both of these are myths by the way, Google if). Use phone until its completely dead, and won't turn on at all, only vibrate with a black screen. Then charge phone for a continuous 8 hours uninterrupted, that should fix it

As a first try, charge to 100%. Then go into CWM recovery and wipe battery stats. It should be good to go....On ICS, thsi seems to fix it for me.
IF you then stilll have weird battery problems a proper recallibration will be in order.
I had to just wipe battery stats when charged to 100%. DON'T just wait for 100%. Alow the phone to get to fully charged.....if you have "Full Charge" notification on your ROM wait for that.

Half of this is right chappatti
charging to 100% and letting it sit for at least an hour even after full charge notification is the best way. Wiping battery stats in cwm won't actually do anything though, thats a myth.
Actually, for lithium ion batteries, it is not recommended to let them discharge to zero. It's better to run it down to 10% or so (i usually do about 5%). and then charge it completely. Rinse and repeat over a few days, and there should be a difference.

What a revelation !! It's like realising my religion is all wrong !
BUT, BUT, BUT : reading the whole battery stats discussion, it i also clear that the business of charging for an hour after 100% is also not worthwhile, but is just a customer gimmick to make people feel thier batteries are topped off. This was started by HTC and the consensus is that is also does not help.
The simple solution is to let the battery go through 2-3 charge-discharge cycles.

A good read. Very useful, thanks !
I had this same issue with my Exynos G2, my problem was flashing different roms or putting a theme on. My fix came not by wiping battery stats but only doing flashes at 100% and plugged in. I never noticed it on my SR though. I'm not saying don't try what the others say, just giving you more options.
Hi all,
I have noticed continued drop in my battery life max percentage over the last few months.
It used to charge to 100% and I'd get the "Remove to save power" popup but then it started charging to only to 97% max, now its only charging to 89% max. I can leave it hooked up for days and it won't charge past that!
The mV stats are at like 4230 or so when charged to 89% so I think its got proper capacity but the actual percentage is reporting wrong... this happens on any ROM, Samno's, Thiaiz etc.
I've tried wiping battery stats so many times both with the market app and with CWM. I've even tried "bump" charging with no luck.
I don't know what else to try... I wonder if its becoming a bad battery... Has anyone else experienced any similar issues?

hehe yeah, I guess I should do the same, so I don't end up going more crazy than I am already!

Your battery is probably going bad.
Charge it to 90% instead of 100%. It can extend the life of the battery.
