Good evening xda community .
I have an Amazon Kindle Fire 5th Generation that doesnt power on.
Symtoms
Wont power on
Gets extremely hot
Attempted Fixes
Holding Down Power button for 30 Seconds
[*]Holding down Power and Volume up for 30 second
[*]Holding down Power and Volume Down Button for 30 seconds
[*]Disconnecting Battery from motherboard for a few minutes and reconnecting
[*]Disconnecting Battery, LCD, and Digitizer from mobo and reconnecting
So before I unplugged the battery from the mobo the tablet was just dead. After I unplugged it and plugged it back in one of the ICs get extremely hot so I know the battery is charged. I don't know much about tablets because my specialty is laptops but is it safe to say there is a short circuit or am I overlooking something?
Any help is appreciated. When we find a solution I will turn this thread into a tutorial for future use.

hi guys,
2 days ago I got a nexus 5 loved it until today I was playing a game (asphalt 8) and it just turned it self off don't know why just did now all im getting is a flashing red light I was on holiday with the phone could the plane have done something to it anyway guys please help me
thanks
Prime
No, the plane didn't do anything to the phone.
Did the battery die? Did you stick the phone on a charger after it turned off?
Best guess is that it's overheated to the thermal shutdown limit.
Leave it a while then try powering it back on

na, when you hit the safety shutdown temp, all it does is shut down, you can boot it right after. ive reached it many times(on purpose), it works.
what the op is describing sounds like the rlod on the nexus 4(red light of death). it happens when the phone thinks it went below 0%. on the n4 there are two solutions, one works sometimes, the other all the time. the one that works sometimes is leave it on the charger for several hours, then try to boot into the bootloader, then shut off the phone from there and keep charging. the method that works 100% is to remove the back cover, disconnect the battery, then reconnect it. this is a hard reset for the battery, and works 100% of the time on the nexus 4.

You may want to give this procedure a try, its copied directly from Google's product support page for the Nexus 7.
Make sure there isn’t any dust or lint in the power port.
Using the original power adapter and USB cable, plug your Nexus 7 into a functioning power outlet. Nexus 7 has specific power requirements, and the USB cable and power adapter that are included are designed to meet those requirements.
Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the tablet and the power adapter.
After 1 minute, check to see if a battery icon appears on the screen.
If the battery icon appears, press & hold the Power button for 15 to 30 seconds to see if the device turns on.
If the battery icon doesn't appear, try accessing the Android bootloader menu:
Press & hold the Volume down button. While holding Volume down, press & hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds until you see an Android robot and the word Start on the screen.
Press the Volume down button until Power off is highlighted. Press the Power button to select that option.
Disconnect the charger and reconnect it within 10 seconds. A battery icon should appear on your screen.
Once the battery icon appears on the screen, allow your tablet to charge for at least 1 hour before turning it back on.

I got a new one thanks for all your help
I just had a red blinking light and no charge indicator situation, as well. Nothing seemed to work: plugged it in for 20 minutes, unplugged it for 20 minutes, plugged it back in...and after another hour on the charger I finally noticed the blinking red light had gone away, and hitting power brought up the charging indicator as normal. Booted right up and has been fine since.
My Nexus 5 just started doing this. I was in the middle of playing a game while my phone was on the charger (Brave Frontier) and suddenly the screen went dead and I had the red flashing light. I'm guessing I was using the juice faster than the charger could fill it so I killed it. I couldn't get the battery indicator to come back but as I was typing this the red light finally stopped flashing and the phone rebooted.
This happened to my N5 today. I was on a Hangouts video chat while plugged in from wall charger and I noticed the battery was actually draining rather than charging. So I figured hangouts was discharging the battery faster than the charging. Eventually it went to 0% and stayed that way for a while and suddenly the screen went off and the LED started blinking red. Followed the steps posted here, plugged in, left for a while and the blinking stops and phone boots up.
Never Hangout-ing with low charge ever! D:
I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed so many times, but I couldn't find symptoms like the ones my Moto G has.
Two weeks ago, my Moto G reached out to 0% and shuted down. After that I've tried the following possible fixes:
Leave the phone out a day off the charger and then charging it for 3-4 hours or even all night long.
Pressing the power button for several minutes while connected to the wall charger.
Connecting it to several chargers (750, 1500 and 2000 mah).
Taking out the battery cover, disconnecting the battery flex and then reconnecting it.
A few things I noticed were that my phone came with a 450 mah charger in the box, and when I connect the phone, the LED light lits continuosly and it never goes off.
When I tried with 1500 and 2000 mah chargers, the LED lits too, and while pressing the power button, the LED light flashes one time after 2-3 minutes, and then flashes again after 5-6 minutes. But these flashes are very glimmer. And no matter what I do, the screen never lights up, and the LED light never goes off.
Please, I desperately need your help. I bought this phone two months ago and I've unlocked the bootloader, so I don't think warranty will cover the phone.
Thank you very much.
if you press power + vol down does the phone goes to recovery? i figured out that even if the phone does not boot you can go to recovery (or is it bootloader?) and than go to barcodes and press vol up. some codes will show up. after a min or so it will turn off. repeat this until the phone wont even boot to recovery. now plug it in the charger and hold power button for 2-3min and than leave it charging for an hour and than try to power it up. if it will not work try to unplug it and plug it in again after a minute and than hold the power button again for 2-3min and leave it charging for an hour again. i got my moto g booted after few tryes.
it seems that moto g wont charge until the battery is completely drained.
I'm sorry but the phone won't boot into bootloader mode neither. Are there any other recommendations? Thanks for your reply.
EDIT: I'll see if I can record a video of the phone's behavior. Maybe it could help.
How to resolve this dead battery issue...

Answer.....I have exact similar problem for last one week and i figured it out how to recover..u have to leave the phone for 24 hours to discharge and then open the battery...See youtube tutorial how to open it....
then go to any local mobile repairing shop and ask him to charge or boost your battery..they have some kind of boost machine..ask them to do it for 10 min the put on the battery and hold the power button led will blink 3 times put the phone in charge i guarantee you u ll get ur moto g back....i have also sucessfully removed the outer glass from digitizer,,...but that another story...hope i helped you...
I recently ran into this... I let my XT1032 battery deplete to 0% and then had a difficult time getting it to recharge.
When the phone was plugged in to any of these:
- my desktop PC
- powered USB hub
- game console USB port
it powered on briefly and showed the white screen with 0% battery indicator. The screen would then go blank and then after a few minutes the phone would boot successfully to my lock screen. However, it seemed to stop taking charge at this point and after a few minutes would shut itself down again. And the cycle would repeat.
I was able to get it to boot to the bootloader through normal means (Vol. Down + Power). But it behaved similarly in that it seemed to stop taking a charge and so after a few minutes it would power down as the battery ran out. And the cycle would repeat.
What finally worked for me was to use a different charger (and cable). I ended up using the charger that came with my tablet (Nexus 7) and the phone charged up the battery without issue -- I'm not sure whether the charging cable made a difference.
There's some discussion here:
http://androidforums.com/threads/moto-g-died-and-now-wont-charge.837568/
that suggests that when the phone hits 0% battery, it becomes fussy about the charger and that a high charging current is required or else the charging circuit shuts down.
My experience would support that theory. Seems a rather dumb design on Motorola's part...
Lesson here is to not let your device run down to 0%!
Hi Guys,
I have a tablet that my boss gave me today to 'fix'. The problem that it is having is that it isn't turning on, nor does it appear to be even charging. He said he used it until it was dead, then plugged it in overnight to charge, but when he tried it this morning, it wouldn't turn back on. I've had it for about two hours now, plugged into an outlet (the plug is a bulky black 2pronged adapter with samsung written on the side and I have a usb 3.0 plug). I tested the charger out on my Galaxy S5 and it started charging without any problems, so that tells me that the charger is working.
After 2 hours of supposedly charging, when I press power nothing happens. When I press the home button, nothing happens. I read on here that some were having really slow charging times, but I figured after two hours, there should be at least enough power to show the little batter logo on the screen during charging. Now, though, since that indicator doesn't even show up, I'm starting to think maybe I should just take it back to VZW. I was looking at the back of the device to see if it had a removable back cover and maybe resetting the battery would fix it, but I didn't see an indention where you can pull the cover off at (like on the note or my s5).
Any suggestions?
2 hour are not so much, if you used not the original charger. Let it on the charger for around 12 hour and try again - disconnect charger, reconnect again if you can see something...
Plug it in, keep the power button pressed for at least 30 seconds. See if that starts it up.
Hi.
You might try getting an usb volt- & ampere-meter off ebay. They're about 10 bucks or so.
It'll tell you if the tablet is drawing power at all.
Regards

I have a Surface 2 tablet that stopped booting about 6 months ago. The charging light on the plug will come on when attached. It is supposed to be running Windows RT 8.1 with latest patches. I tried long press power, Long press power with Vol+, Long press power with Vol-, etc. Plug in with and without type cover. Power on with micro-HDMI to monitor. There does not appear to be any sign of life.
I checked the power supply and the voltage reading seems good.
I looked at several video and the Surface 2 is pretty difficult to disassemble. I heard that there is a recovery USB available but I am not sure it is worth me spending time on it. Can someone tell me if recover through USB will at least show a logo or something on screen before it read from the USB? Is there any use for the seemingly dead tablet? The Surface 2 has a great screen. I hope I could use it as a picture frame or eReader of some sort.
As a last resort you might try and hold the power button down for 24 hours (rubber band and ice cream stick works).
Then release the power button from the rubber band and then short press the power button.
Mine is pretty much dead but that method at least gets the surface logo appearing. (I get a little buzz from the Surface when i press the power button). Logo stays for 15 or so seconds. Then the screen goes black with no other signs of life. I only get once chance to do this before I have to wait another 24 hours. Pressing the button again does nothing. I then wait another 24 hours in the vain hope that it springs back to life.
Also tried using recovery stick to see if it boots. It doesn't.
Hope you have a better result.
Broke the display summer 2022, phone sat for 9 months before I finally decided to get new display + frame assembly and move everything over. Phone will not accept charge at all, I can boot it and hold the power button and it'll boot until the video splash screen (after the initial ZTE one), can also boot into FTM and recovery modes as well but still need to hold the power button the whole time, and it only lasts maybe 30 seconds before it quits. It flashes a dead battery icon for a fraction of a second when doing this. I tried with the original battery, then I ordered another one but it was also just as dead and did not allow it to accept a charge. I even just replaced the charge board in the device, still no change.
I'm guessing the battery is too dead to get it to accept a charge? This was the case on a previous device of mine, but I can't MacGuyver a way to apply 5V1A directly to this type of battery / connector. Sometimes when I boot in FTM mode, my charger brick shows it starts to take a charge, but even with holding the power button it only stays on for maybe 30 sec after I started holding it down to boot the device, and it doesn't do it every time.
Any tips, even hail Mary "try this" ones, are greatly appreciated!
