Hi There,
Yesterday morning I went to work with a completely charged Moto G. When I arrived at work my screen was black and had become unresponsive.
The powerbutton doesn't wake up the phone, tried several times, holding it for more than 150sec. When connected to a charger (tried multipe) the charging led lights up, not blinking.
I have read on a motorola forum that this could indicate that there's insufficient power in the battery to activate the display.
However it was completely charged.
My Moto G has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted and has a custom rom (C-Rom, [ROM][AOSP][KK][12/05] **C-RoM** -4.4.2- -v6.5)
Is there anything I can try or is my phone a brick now?

I am having the same problem too.
My moto G drained its battery until it shut down. Then i promptly went to charge it. The screen is blank and and notification light is on.

PS My Moto g bootloader unlocked, stock rom,rooted and it is on the Faux123kernel

No luck yet, left it on the charger for a whole night, still just the white charging led. No response to the power button.
But I refuse to believe it is completely dead. Before I had a HTC Desire S, tried many custom roms, never bricked it.
I just can't imagine what happend the day before yesterday.
Perhaps I'll try and find a more powerfull charger.

I think I found a solution. I followed these steps
1. Charge your phone via USB cable on your computer.
2. The white notification light should come on.
3. Then, do not touch any buttons on your phone.
4 The iconic Battery Logo(white background) should appear after several minutes.
Followed these steps and my phone eventually turned on

Still no luck, trying a different cable (blackberry) now.
Not working for me, still just a beautiful white led indicator.
Start to think it's probably dead. Or battery thinks it's drained somehow.
Maybe anyone else has an idea?
Ok, I opened the Moto G and disconnected the battery, reconnected it after 10 sec. still no luck
Odd thing though and not very promising is that when the battery is disconnected the charging led still lights up when charger is connected.
Could this just mean that only the battery is fully drained or that the device is messed up?
Guess I going for a new one.
See if a new battery helps
Bought a new one today, so I can try and fix the other. First I will leave it for at least 24 hours.
Perhaps I will exchange the batteries at one time to see if that helps.

Black screen but charging led lights up
I am experiencing the same issue.
I bought a dead moto g for part replacement with my current moto g. Just out of curiosity, I plugged in the charger to the newly arrived moto g and observed the similar behavior.
To go further, I swapped the battery and tried to turn it on, and voila, it boots!! It has C-ROM. But it won't charge the battery any how. Its again back to
original behavior : No Screen, No Battery Charging, Only notification LED glows. I kept it on charger for whole night, but no luck.
The notification LED turns on even if I the battery is removed and charger is plugged in. What does that really mean?
Is there a probability that the charging circuit is broken? or it has something to do with bootloader, C-ROM and custom kernel? Does any one thinks reverting back to Stock ROM will help out in any way?

Exactly the same with my little brother his Moto G 4G (1st gen) (stock rom, BL unlocked & rooted).
Solid white LED when plugged in, no other response.
The most advertised trick does not work (step 6: flashboot screen doesn't show up)

Plug it into the charger
Hold the VOL DOWN key
While still holding the VOL DOWN key, press and hold the POWER key
Hold both keys down for over 120 seconds. This is more than two minutes and will seem like a long time. You might want to time yourself to make sure you hold it longer than two minutes.
After holding the keys down for more than two minutes, release them.
The Flash Boot screen will display, and the Normal Reboot option will be highlighted
Press the VOL UP key and the device will start a normal reboot.
If you have tried the above and it didn't work, try this:
Plug in the phone for 15 minutes.
Proceed to Step 2 above.

Update: an overnight charge on a 5V 1A charger did the trick. White led was gone this morning, booted normally.

i hv been facing the same problem since past 2 days, it was working gud wen suddenly it went bad. i remember using it and putting it back into my pocket & after like 10 mins wen i tried to open it, it didn't respond. i tried to hard reset it (by pressing vol down n power button) & by forced reset but it didnt work. now, i have put it on charge on a source of 5v 1A charger. i hope it works and works well. now my question is that i remember my cell was nearly 50% charged wen all of ds happened, so i wish to know that is dre some hardware problem or dead battery problem?? thnx in advance

I don't know why a USB charger and a PC connection should make any difference when the phone is not booted up.
I had the same problem. I solved it by removing the battery by opening the phone (mine was out of warranty) and taking it to repair shop where they charged the battery for an hour. Then when I put it back in, the phone rebooted normally with 10% charge.
But ever since, my battery life has deteriorated. Doesn't even last one full day. And I have had the same issue twice. I think I need a new battery.

Did New battery helped u in booting device?? because i am having the same problem.
same problem here.just call from Moto Care they told to charge bettery for 7 hours min.then on the phone.let see if it works i will update..

Same Problem to me not for me this problem is faced by several moto g users are facing this if they unlocked their device bootloader.
I have a simple solution for that I have faced this issue long time ago and now I know a permanent solution. You all have usb cables in your house...just took a old one and cut it from the mini usb side..there are 4 wires...you have to care about red and black..open your moto g battery and took it off from the phone now connect the usb cable to your pc and touch the red wire to the positive and black to the negative ...just do this for 45 seconds and immediately connect the battery to the phone and connect the charger...phone will starts charging from 0 % pls do not wait to connect the switch and back cover just charge it upto 20 % the cover it up.....DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY DRAIN MORE THAN 30% AS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN LI ION BATTERIES...

Interesting, but how did you determine the negative and positive terminals on the battery flex? Can you, please, mark the attached photo of the battery of moto g to help the community?
Also, as a side note I think I discovered a solution - I connected the phone to my PC's usb 2.0 port and held the power button for 2 minutes - at which the LED blinked momentarily and then continues to shine. I left the phone connected and continued to browse for solutions to this battery charging dilemma - then about 5 minutes the LED stopped shining (and I breathed a sigh :silly: !!! becaue this is the sign of battery being charged!) and after about 30 minutes of charging I turned the phone on and it was 16% charged. Well I haven't been able to reproduce this solution (since, I have been extra cautious with the battery now!) but I would surely like to know if anyone can reproduce this solution:
1. Plug in your phone to USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with original moto g cable and confirm that the LED shines continuously.
2. Hold the power button for 2 minutes (which I discovered to be a long time if you just continuously stare at the phone!) after which you will notice that the led with blink momentarily before continuing to shine continuously. (I suggest you continue holding it for another 2 minutes after which the led will blink again momentarily)
3. Leave the power button and leave the phone attached to the port for at least 30 mins before attempting to power on.
I've had the Moto G since january and I've never had any major problems with it. The other day it had like 40%-60% battery.
So I left it on the table and came back like half an hour later to check messages but when I hit the power button it didn't react. At first I thought it was some kind of lag, the I kept pressing the power button and no response so I assumed that the battery had been drained, which I found odd considering that half an hour ago it had half charge. So I connected the device and there was no response. I waited a couple of minutes, came back and tried to turn it on again and it didn't even show the battery screen. I panicked and started searching online for solutions. So far I have tried the following :
-Power button for 20 sec
-Power for 2+ minutes
-Power + Vol Down for 2+ minutes
All while connected to a 850mA wall adapter (Razr HD)
None of them worked
I read about people switching to a 2A charger but I don't have any spare wall adapters so I was checking my portable battery which said 2A on one port so I gave it a try. The phone turned on just fine. I was able to get to the home screen and I thought the nightmare was over. I turned the screen off and left it charging for a couple of minutes when I came back it didn't respond again. So after that the 2A was of no use. When I switched back to the wall adapter it turned on but it didn't make it past the bootlogo.
So now it turns on randomly and shows the 'unlocked bootloader screen' and sometimes makes it to the boot logo. Sometimes it shows the battery screen which says 40 'something' percent.
I don't want to give up on this phone yet and I can't ask for a replacement since its unlocked and rooted.
Has anyone had this or a similar problem? If so, did you find a solution?
Well, title says it all. My girlfriend's Moto G just went totally dead one day. I took it apart and measured that the battery voltage was very low. I also tried to charge the phone but all that it did is blinking white LED if Power button is pressed.
So, i went to eBay and purchased a new battery which arrived today. Popped it into Moto G aaand.. still no life. Even the white LED did flash no more Tried almost every single trick that I have found, still no luck, however few hours of charging with my G3 charger bring the white LED back to life. Now if I press Power button for a few seconds, white LED flashes quickly 2 times and then it goes away and nothing on screen. If I just let it charge without touching anything, I can see white LED flashing sometimes. Gonna leave it charging overnight and see if that brings it back to life. Any tricks what else I can do with this phone or should I just toss it away?

Can you enter fastboot mode, if you can that might indicate a sign of life.
Can't enter fastboot either Tried to press Vol - and Power, white LED flashed only one time but still no luck :/ Maybe the mobo is bad?

Just standard use, but one night it just died. It did not wake with overnight charging. It is now sitting on my desk without charger, gonna try it in the evening when i go home. If it does not wake, i think it really is dead
Try looking up the led codes from Motorola's site or something. That might help if there are any. Seems to me that you have some hardware damage. But I might be wrong.
Try keeping it on charger for a few hours, then with charger connected, press power and keep it pressed for like 2 straight minutes. That should at least wake the device. If it doesn't work, I'm afraid it is busted :/

Tried that too, even pressed Power button over 2 minutes but all it does is white LED flashing randomly. Without charger it does absolutely nothing. I think the motherboard is busted
Seems like hardware damage to me too, use it for parts or sell it I guess.
why don't you take it to service center
it will be your best bet if engineer have a look whats the issue. just a get a approx cost. they will let you know. :good:

I had been lurking around here for a while. Let me give some background information. I had the Moto G 1st Gen for about 2 years now. A few months ago it suddenly soft bricked and I was able to get it working again after reading the posts here on how to load the firmware again. A few days ago it bricked again and I load up the firmware again. Until last night, it suddenly start lagging while I was using my apps. It took a while to load the UI as well. So I used some app and then exit out to the home screen, and let the screen lock by itself instead of me pressing the power button to close there were still 50% battery.
This morning I woke up to the battery drained out. I can no longer charge it. When I plug it in the outlet the LED light no longer flash 3x, it only flash 1x and that was it. I left it like that for half an hour and realize it's not charging at all (the plug is usually warm if it's charging). Power button trick didn't work, nothing worked. But the LED light does flash 1x every time I plug it in to wall charge. I know people say it need a higher voltage to get it powered up....I have been using a 5V-1A power output to charge my phone previously without problems. Usually when it drained out I plug it in, it will load to the white screen with a charging battery. Now it does nothing except just flash 1x when it detect the wall charger.
Anyone had this problem before and able to get it back up working? I'm afraid it's completely dead?
I have never had any problem with my Nexus 5. It is now my standby device. Accordingly it doesn't get used much. One day I left it ON and didn't use it for 2 weeks. When I picked it up again it was OFF and didn't want to turn on. Naturally I thought the battery had drained and put it to charge.
Instead of the battery symbol on the screen (indicating it is being charged), I get a sequence of 8 red blinks on the bottom notification light (which is just above the charging port), each blink lasting 0.5 seconds, then 0.5 seconds off (so total duration of blinking sequence is 8 seconds), then 1.5 seconds off, then blinking sequence starts again.
I left it connected to the charger for 2 weeks. Nothing changed.
I then replaced the battery with a brand new OEM battery, same thing again.
I cannot get into recovery mode nor is the phone recognised when I connect it to the PC.
Any ideas? Anyone knows the meaning of this blinking sequence?

what is the current state of the phone? do you just get the blinking when charge cable connected? no boot loop ?
So currently the phone doesn't switch on and cannot be charged it would seem.
There is no bootloop.
And yes, the blinking only goes on whilst a charging lead is connected or whilst it's on a wireless charging cradle. No blinking when removed from the charger.

you said you replaced the battery , I would check that connection , try removing the battery if possible and reconnecting it. Try the old battery too if you still have .
In my experience i'v seen that blinking light in other devices when they overheat.
I only replaced the battery because of the blinking problem as I suspected a deep discharged battery. Anyway the connections are good. 100%.
I never had overheat issues on my N5 as it was just used for basic functions, no gaming etc. I wouldn't imagine the device had overheated while it was left unattended on my desk, and there definitely is no overheating happening now as it doesn't even switch on...

sounds like your hammerhead finally checked out ... the old saying goes " if you don't use it, you lose it " .... try all combinations like hold power and volume down at the same time for 10 seconds , power and volume up ..etc
other than that i'd take a multi meter and make absolute sure you have power to the motherboard , then if you still do, it could be a short ..
if you want to go even further, a complete tear down of the phone, check for corrosion ( whitish residue on terminals and motherboard ) clean off with toothbrush only ( no water or liquid of any kind ) be careful removing ribbon cables and re-inserting them ... you can find lots of stuff on youtube for that.
