There is a lot to find about updating your OS here on XDA. The latest ROM can be found on lineageos.org.
Basically:
1st time
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Install latest TWRP
3. Wipe Data, System, Cache, Dalvik Cache partitions from withing TWRP
4. Flash latest ROM from within TWRP
5. Flash latest GApps package from within TWRP
6. Flash latest SuperSU or Magisk (I prefer SuperSU) from within TWRP
Before I forget... make sure you've got the proper Nougat RUU installed! More info can be found here.
Since you are currently using a branded ATT device, and are S-On... No you cannot upgrade beyond current version. If you were to S-Off and convert device to Dev/Unlocked version, you could then upgrade to latest build available.

Problem: I unblocked my Moto g4 running Nougat and installed the latest version of twrp; everything was going well. Then I rooted my phone and installed superSU using twrp --- That is when the problem began and I can no longer boot into my regular system. Everytime my phone boots it boots into twrp recovery mode -
I used these two guides to do this:

What can I do to simply boot up into my regular Nougat system?

When you flashed SuperSU, did you wipe cache and dalvik/ART cache in TWRP?
Did you accidentally wipe your system partition? If so, you have no OS to boot into, on this case, you'll have to flash a custom ROM for your model number or a modified TWRP flashable zip of your stock firmware.
If these things don't work then you've corrupted something, are you certain that you unlocked your device correctly? Are you certain that you covered all the bases for rooting your device?

I think I might have corrupted something- In the meantime I flashed the original stock ROM that I got with the device - which was Marshmallow 6.0 but now I can't update back to 7.0. I flashed 6.0 because I couldnt find any official 7.0 ROMS for my Moto g4. Thanks for your response! If you have any idea why I can't update please let me know!

That question is better answered by asking in the G4 forum, I'm not familiar enough with your device hardware/software specifics.

Download and flash: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4302781&d=1508010356
You should now be rooted with Magisk.
Make sure you have TWRP 3.1.x from the twrp thread

Is it really that easy? i have mine rooted with TWRP 3.1, i can flash that file and I'll have magisk? I'm on the same HW/SW version as the OP.
since the Oreo is coming out, will I need to flash stock to get the Stock Oreo update when its released? I assume so. I am new to the Mates and they seem to have a much different flash method/path than the Nexus 6p and HTC devices i have done in the past. I'm kind of leery to pursue Installing ROM's and Magisk (never used it yet) but would like to. Any tips or links to detailed instructions for the Mate flashing? I cant find, what I feel, to be detailed instructions on XDA.
thanks

If you're rooted with SuperSU or Phh you will need to restore your stock boot image before flashing Magisk,
this can be done by downloading your firmware from http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/ then extacting update.app and opening it in Huawei Update Extractor where you extract BOOT.IMG.
Flash it using fastboot flash boot boot.img.
As long as you're using firmware B182+ (Loop device support) and TWRP 3.1.x you can install official Magisk/SuperSU.
Oreo will be a full firmware so it shouldn't need to verify any partition, meaning you will only need to restore stock recovery.
I have an oneplus 6 with official OSS 5.1.5 and TWRP installed. But after OTA update my phone to OSS 5.1.6, i cannot boot to TWRP anymore. Is TWRP gone after OTA update? My OEM unlocking still unlocked.
Have u not read anything in these forums, tutorials or anything?
There are like 50 threads on how to upgrade and about the new partitions for op6, it is even clear when u installed twrp too

Hi, just to clarify when you install an OTA on the oneplus 6 it uses the new partitioning system which is different so to remedy the situation just try reflashing TWRP enchilada installer using fastboot.

Previously, i've installed Beta(unofficial) version of TWRP, now i want to re-install TWRP with Official version , do i need to remove or do something firstly?
To fix it just download the official TWRP for oneplus 6 from the official team win recovery project page and then you put that on your phone, and flash using your currently installed TWRP then after that make sure you also install the root package as installing the new version of TWRP will modify the new boot image, Also a good time to mention that it will install in both slots (Seamless update slots) Treble slots if you will just to be aware.

Just follow one of the many upgrade guides. Skip the part about upgrading to 5.1.6 but for the rest follow the steps exactly. No need to explain all this in yet another thread imo. You'll need a pc though.
that's would be great if twrp can be flashed and stays there without wiping as well as root.
Pleasssseeeeee read before creating a new thread

You can't boot into twrp because it's not there anymore. The OTA created a completely stock version of the OS that you're now booted on. You need to reinstall twrp and magisk according to the posted guides. This is going to be the case with all OTAs. The stock updater looks for root, and when it's there, it installs a complete OS, not an incremental update.
want know if i do Unlock Bootloader & Install TWRP Recovery that will stop the update

yeap but why you want ota update when you have bl unlocked and twrp installed
Sorry to disagree, but my Poco F1 is unlocked and rooted (twrp + magix) and i still receive ota
It just "unroot" and replace twrp by the stock recovery each time an ota updates the phone
Yesterday i received the Android 10 OTA update. just have to reflash recovery with minimal_adb_fastboot, then reinstall magix. Tha't all
(if any question, i root for Titanium backup usage and Adfree )
Unlocked boot custom recovery never got one update so flashed a beta ROM instead and never looked back if I want to update just download the latest version of the ROM I currently use and flash away........
Flash Orangefox recovery enable ota update feature, then clean flash your stock rom. You don't have to do anything after that. when update shows up download and update as usual
hello there.
sorry for making a new thread .. ive asked my question multiple times no one answered properly. so here's the situation:
just received the phone from china . i'm on android pie hos. and want to update to ob7 . having root and twrp is it the right way to do it? :
1. update to ob7 using local update and full zip file.
2. unlock the bootloader and flash twrp 70 (or 74 i'm not sure?) using adb
3. flash magisk and twrp installer in twrp recovery
4. done!
i heared its better to use twrp 70 and dont know the reason. whats wrong with the latest version?
Not sure if that will work, but locally upgrading from h2OS to OOS worked on my old op6 when I had it.
If it does not work;
Backup your files first then you need to unlock your bootloader.
Then boot twrp via command prompt. Once booted into twrp. Wipe data and do a factory reset there. Flash twrp installer then reboot into recovery.
Flash OB7, twrp installer and magisk then reboot to recovery again and flash ob7, twrp installer and magisk then reboot to system
I'm using .74
Not sure what the problem is/are.
Regards

It can be done but I wasn't happy with it there were loads of bugs.. Issues slowdowns etc.. I would suggest strictly against it..

Which route you want to follow twrp or official? If its official i'd say try the msm tool.. That will put you on oldest pie and then you can do OTA..
Twrp is self explanatory..
