How to auto-receive MMS when the data is off? - General Questions and Answers

A few months back, my phone automatically turned on the data when receiving or sending MMS. Now I have to do it manually. Is there a way for it to be turned on when an MMS is reiceived or sent?
I'm using the S7 Edge Exynos, Textra SMS. Rooted.
Thank you!

I do not quite understand, do you want the mobile data to reactivate automatically when you receive the MMS message?

I have the same issue. On my Redmi 3s, the data was automatically switched on / off when sending / receiving MMS (using Textra).
After flashing a custom Nougat rom, i have to manually toggle data
If anyone has a solution or a workaround...

[Q] Issues sending MMS messages

I'm having issues sending MMS messages on my GS5. I contacted Sprint support and they really aren't much help so I just wanted to see if anyone else was having issues?
The Sprint rep had me dial ##72786# which sent it into the hands-free activation mode again, but they ultimately weren't able to fix anything.

Check in /system/etc if apns-conf.xml exists. If not, there's your problem. But I need more info to assist here, do you still have data/LTE, phone signal, none at all, are you using third party messaging app?
Okay, network connectivity exists. Normal text messages send fine with no issues and I can actually receive MMS messages. I'm using the stock messaging application because I was having issues receiving MMS via the Hangouts app when I let it handle my text messaging.
The file you requested was there...my post count isn't high enough to post the screenshot of it. I'm not currently rooted.

Try using 8sms.... It allows you to send MMS over WiFi (you can turn OFF mobile data, and still be able to send MMS as long as you have a WiFi connection). Sprint supports MMS over WiFi and is one of VERY few carriers in the world that support it, so try out 8sms

Can you receive MMS in stock messages app? Is it just Hangouts?
I can receive messages in all apps, Hangouts and the stock app. It just seemed to have issues sending MMS within any app that I have tried so far. Currently using the stock app.
I can give 8SMS a try.
I had an issue the other day sending texts. I went into application manager and deleted cache and data for the MMS program and it's worked fine since.

Agreed, try first clear cache/data for sms stock app (do not open), go update prl/profile, reboot. Them open app and see if works. If so, profit. If not and you have time, redo ROM flash of stock or what you're on. I'd say try my APN flash zip in Android development to see but that is at your own risk and, if something broke (highly unlikely though) you'd need to Reflash stock ROM to reset all. All this worth a try.

I had this issue when my phone was new. Did the activation thing and a PRL update, which fixed it for me.

[Q] I can receive MMS, but can't send, when on Wifi

Hi all,
My S3 is running Bonestock 3.4 (Android 4.1.2) and I've noticed that, if I am running on wifi (4G data is still on), I can receive MMS messages (e.g., group messages, pictures, videos are sometimes sketchy), but I cannot send any type of MMS message, whether it is a response to a group message or photos/videos. If I turn off wifi and re-send the message, it will go through fine.
FYI - I am using the stock Samsung messaging app, but I had the same issue w/ Hangouts.
It's my understanding that MMS requires mobile data. For what it's worth, when I am on wifi, my mobile data is still turned on. I was wondering if there is some sort of workaround for this, or if it will be necessary for me to disable wifi any time I want to send an MMS message.
As far as workarounds go (and as weird as this may sound), I would prefer not installing a 3rd party messaging app.
Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nexus 5 does not auto recieve MMS

Hey!
Yesterday I bought a N5 and today I noticed my friends dont recieve my pictures if I do not turn on my Mobile Data. This isn't really bad..the worst thing is that if I do not have Mobile Data turned on I do not know I even got an MMS.
So I must get my data always on to even know somebody sent me a picture? If there was a way I could at least get a warning that MMS ciuldn't be downloaded because there is no networtk that would be great.
How is everyone else experiencing this?
Oh, and I have Android Lollipop
MMS (pic messages) is data dependent. Even if on WiFi, MMS will use data

You HAVE to have data on to do anything MMS related. Unless you're using an instant message client like WhatsApp you REQUIRE to have data on.
Actually, in part MMS send and receive configuration is dependent on carrier configurations and not only device or ROM settings.
Somehow, I think data switching for MMS is okay when data is off and other times it is broken. Some kind of receiver or meta-info with the mms transmit.
Textra app on playstore used to have "temporarily activate mobile data for mms" in a troubleshooting section. I don't see it in the current new version for Lollipop, maybe soon though.
Some phones and ROMs and carriers will turn data on for mms and not tally against plan data usage limits, so data could otherwise be technically off so zero or very low data plans don't overage.
Is there a way to make the Nexus 5 auto turn on data whenever sending or receiving a mms?
I'm using go sms and there's a setting for that but it doesn't work

[Q] Auto data for mms

I'm using a nexus 5 with lollipop and I'm using go sms pro for my messaging app. I have setting for the data to automatically turn on whenever I send a mms or receive a mms but this setting doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know how to get this work? I have to manually turn on my data whenever I receive or send mms.

MMS question

Hi all,
Coming from lollipop android, I noticed on my old mobile, when sending MMS without mobile data on, the MMS would activate the mobile data temporarily and then send the MMS and then switch mobile data off.
However on Samsung, you need to have mobile data on to send/ receive MMS.
Is this normal for Samsung?
Tia.
