Moto G (XT1700) boots to some kind of recovery menu - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

(Newbie, sorry for any mistakes...)
This is a totally stock phone that a friend gave to me. He damaged it somehow, and the power button and both volume buttons are missing. When a power cable is plugged in, it boots to some kind of recovery screen, entirely in Chinese. I haven't been able to try any of the options - I can't select them. Is there anything I can do? (Posting here because it's the only place I know of that might be able to help.)

[Q] Possible dead digitizer/can't get into recovery question.

Ok, so I bought this phone as a project, it will boot fine to the lock screen, but I think the digitizer is jacked, but I want to test other things just to make sure. For instance I try to go into recovery mode by holding vol down and power and get nothing. So i dont know if the button is bad or I am not doing something right. Or if fast boot could be the cause, I cant get to menu to see if it is on. Also is there a way to get debugging on without using the phone? I'm guessing no, but I could do alot more to the phone if it was on.
Anyways. Any advice, or suggestions?
pull the battery, put it back, then try to get into recovery, and w/o usb debug or root, its very difficult to do anything with it in its current state
EDIT* also, its the button is having problems, the nice thing is that you can actually access the button itself under the volume rocker, to see if its an actual button hardware issue
Nope, battery pull didn't work, still booted normally. blah.

[Q] [Q} Broken Power Button, Phone won't go into Recovery or Download Mode

The power button on my phone recently has stopped working. I need to get it warrantied, but I am running CM 10.2. I need to Odin back to stock, but I can not get into Download Mode or the recovery. When I go into Download mode, the initial screen pops up, the one where you choose to hit up to continue, or down to reboot normally. After I hit up, the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I really need to get back to stock, as Bestbuy are being dicks, and demanding I do a factory reset before they send my phone in.
Anything? I still need help on this.

This has been covered at least 10 times in the past few months we need a sticky. Take your battery out hold your phone so the power button is facing a table or floor and slam that side a few times it should work again (Temporary). You might need to hit it on the surface really hard 10-20 times before it works. Just not to hard or else you might crack the screen. I used a mouse pad to soften the impact. This trick no longer works for me so I ripped the button off. After about a month of doing this I needed to use things that would only hit the button to make it work. About a month after that nothing worked so I just took it off the motherboard and now boot from a off state by plugging into the wall and enter odin mode deny the prompt and it kicks me into a workable state.

I can get into the system just fine. When I go into the recovery or download mode, it doesn't stay in that mode. I tried the banging thing, and it made my power button go from intermittently working, to not working at all.
keep doing it until it works. The button is sticking that is why it reboots/stopped working.

It sounds like your power button is physically broken, and it is activating intermittently, which is stopping the phone from entering download mode. My only experience with this problem is my own phone but ultimately mine got so bad that I had to rip the button off the motherboard, as ThePagel did. Your symptoms sound the same as mine.
You can try this procedure to get into recovery, which works for me without a power button. You will probably have the same problem you are having now with the phone rebooting on its own before you actually get into recovery, because the power button is activating.
1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery (this is a little tricky).
4. The phone should start and warn you that you are entering Download mode. If you want to use Odin to return to stock, do that now.
5. If you want to get into Recovery instead, press Volume Down to reboot and then *immediately* push and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously. The phone should reboot into recovery. Mine does.
If that doesn't work, and you can't get a new phone without returning it to stock, then prying the power button off the phone's motherboard may be your only solution.

Moto G Touch Screen not working!!

My brand new Moto G, just ready to use, no response to touch. I just turned on the phone and it reached the Lock screen. I swiped it many times, phone not unlock. I pushed the power button to get the shut down screen, no response when touching the Power Off. I cannot turn it off now. Phone could receive phone call, just the screen does not respond.
Any help is appreciated.

BEFORE ALL THIS: IF YOU HAVE WARRANTY USE IT!!!
There might be hardware damage but try this first. Hopefully you had already enabled usb debugging to make a backup, if so follow these commands:
adb pull /sdcard C:\
There is a way to simulate touchscreen events but you need usb debugging enabled. Reply if you want to see how.
Hard shutdown the phone by holding the power button for 20 seconds ish. Immadietly after the screen goes blank hold vol. down for 2 seconds and while holding it press and hold the power button as well. (Enter bootloader mode) Let go of the buttons after 5 seconds ish. Then choose recovery from the bootloader menu. This can be a bit tricky, you will see an android robot with a red exclamation point. At this point you need to rapidly press the vol. up and power button together. (Spamming them might work) (This video might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjNXkRtEQlo) Then choose wipe cache from the recovery menu. Reboot and see if it works. If not, try a factory reset from the recovery menu by following the steps above.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the response. I tried the recovery mode and then factory reset. Still screen was not responding to touch. I am going to return this phone to Sears. I don't know whether I should get another one or get a Moto E.
My opinion: get another moto g, you don't get as much bang for the buck with the moto e. Or get the moto g 4glte or moto g 2. So many options lol.

[Completed] Sony Xperia Tablet S SGPT1211 not responding to reset/power comands

Hello,
I think I might be at the end of the road with my tablet. I've never rooted it or tampered with it in an way, however yesterday it locked up so I did the usual soft reset (hold power and vol+ for 10 seconds) I then turned it back on and the sony logo popped up, but there it just hung. If I press and hold the power button it switches off, a brief press on the power button brings it back on in the same state. So I go Googling, including looking at threads on this site, all seemed to advise to try to get the Android recovery menu up. on the Sony this is done by holding the power and vol+ and then releasing the power button (only) when the son logo appears (this process to be started when the tablet is off) so I did this, and no response at all. Worse than that, where it would turn on and instantly hang, it now doesn't turn on at all. Hooking it up to my PC I can see the device in device manager, but it tells me my usb device has malfunctioned.
At the moment, my thoughts are to open it up, to:
1. Check that the power/volume buttons aren't stuck in some way (preventing the boot command being given correctly)
2. Remove and resolder if necessary internal battery to force a power cycle.
3. Bin it and get something new (it is 2.5yrs old so no big loss i suppose)
Any ideas where to look or similar experiences?
Thanks

Cant boot it up (only with charger and it loops)

Hi there,
Sorry for my bad english.
Im having a big issue right now with my Nexus 5.
My Android is 6.0 original's ROM (stock) and Im facing a new bug, I was using the cellphone and it turned off without my request, now, when I press the Power Button, it does nothing, when a press the combinations with Volume Up or Down, it does nothing. When I plug in the charger's jack, it boot up, but the boot loops. When I press the combination to Restore or Recovery, it shows the image but turns into boot loops again and I really dont know why.
I cant use it normally, without charging, if I do, this is the problem.
Is it soft bricked? I believe yes, but how can I solve this?
I cant remove the battery, it is "sealed".
How can I proceed?
Thx in adv.
Can you get into fastboot mode? If you can, you could try flashing a stock ROM.
What happens when you just plug in the charger without pressing any buttons?
The back of the phone can be easily removed with a pry tool. The black housing covering the motherboard can be removed and the battery disconnected from the motherboard.

Sounds like the power button has gone bad. If you plug it in and go to bootloader, does it still reboot before you can make a selection? This has been a common problem on the N5. Most of the time the only fix is to have the entire switch replaced by LG or local company... Unless you are very handy with a solder.
Same problem here.
For all those that have the same problem, it is the power button
Had the same problem. Solved it by removing the power button and installed "DTSO: Double Tap" that wakes the screen with the volume buttons.
the only problem is that i no longer have the ability to turn it on once the battery dies, other than open the phone and shunt the contacts.
But it works....
