Failed wireless charging adapter on Essential - Essential Phone Accessories

I'm a big fan of wireless charging so I had to give an adapter a chance. I tried this adapter -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N38ZPX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- because an amazon review stated it worked on the Essential. Unfortunately the one I received did not work on my essential phone (tested with / without case). I also tested the adapter on my nexus 6P and it worked on that phone. I think I'm giving up on wireless charging the phone but wanted to put this out for anyone thinking about giving an adapter a chance.. I would try a different one.

[Q] MHL connection

Hello,
So I know there has been couple threads in regards to MHL's before but none answered my question...
I went ahead and bought a MHL connector yesterday, tried hooking it in to my flatscreen with new HDMI cable I also bought at the same time, all from frys electronics. I had seen pictures of that MHL connector on multiple post stating it works so I sure figured it would for me. But for some reason I was unable to get mine to work.
I have tried
rebooting the phone (with and without mhl plugged in)
giving the phone a full charge before trying it.
plugging power output to laptop or wall (laptop is closer than wall but either way none worked)
but at no time did I get a response from my phone or tv other than it charging my phone? I am understanding that when I plug it in to the MHL I should have a new icon popping up on the top of my screen but it's not
I am currently running zydroid latest rom 2.0 (great rom by the way)
Is anyone else having such issue or can anyone assist me in this regard. Or even better yet, anyone with zydroid rom able to assist me?
Thanks a bunch
I'm on stock but I have one that is made by Samsung? I've heard of knock off ones not working with phones but I guess that's people's own experience....And with my mhl converter to hdmi it has to have my phone charger connected directly to the converter while the other end of mhl converter connects to my phone. It's a mess of cords but it works....I've tried others and this is the best one that works with my galaxy s2 and sensation. I bought mine on amazon for like 13 bucks.....try searching Samsung mhl to hdmi ....hope u figure it out.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
I figured it out... turned out to be the MHL was defective, Thanks bud
HTC One S MHL Connection
I have the OEM HTC Sensation MHL adapter and it works perfectly on the HTC ONE S.
You can also buy the MHL adapter from monoprice.com which works and offers 7.2 audio.

Best micro-usb cable

Hi,
I've got quite weird problem. Most micro-usb cables doesn't fit nicely with my phone. I've to push it and it feels like I could break something. Is there company that makes good quality cables like Samsung's original ones?
Pretty easy to get oem cables on ebay.
Ok, but is there any particular company, except oem, that you would recommend?
OEM Micro USB Cable
I have searched everywhere, there is no OEM Micro USB Cable available for Galaxy S4.
On ebay , when you select OEM warranty , no results shows up for Micro USB cable.
Can anyone help me find a replacement, the charger is working fine but I'm unable to find the best cable?
Please advice.
Thanks,
Sid
I've bought an Aukey cable and it works really fine.
Try blueridge. They make some of the best cables. I have one and it even supports fast charging ( qualcomm quick charge )

double yes on the blueridge, been using them a while now and no issues
So Blueridge, Thanks.
try look for Remax micro usb cable which is very durable and good quality. But beware of counterfeit one as there's a lot in the market right now.
I've just got myself an LG cable from ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331618247629 ... The OEM Samsung cable was over 2 years old and was the reason my phone was charging slowly (car charger was fine and swapped an HTC cable onto the Samsung charger and that was fine so definitely the cable ...) - at 300/400mA. With this cable it will charge at the full 1900mA, it seems to fit better (more securely) into the USB port on the phone and it's also slightly longer which is, for me, an advantage.
HTH.

What phone do you use? I threw my stock usb cable (S4) away after it started "connecting/disconnecting" on its own when connected to my PC!
I'm now using my old Blackberry 9380 USB cable which is short and thick AND has NEVER done the same as experienced with stock Samsung cable. I charge with it and flash new ROMS, no problem! :good:
This one time my old stock usb cable disconnected WHILE I'm flashing my S4 with new rom - almost bricked it!
thank you

Hello,.
I can only recommend you one cable, the Anker nylon braided micro usb one, it is the best usb cable I've ever owned.
You do even get a 18 month warranty, you won't be disappointed.

As for your problem, it happened too with my new cables. It's pretty normal I think, it's usually over after 2-4 weeks.
I also used a lot of different cables (from my mice, music players, other phones) and those worked w/o any problems as well. Fit like a glove that fits nicely.
Mine is from iOrange-E. It is 6.6ft long and reversible also. Works fine for me.
I love my 6 foot Monoprice cable... Amazing and only 3 bucks with the gold plating(for looks, of course).
These that came with this extra charger are the best I've tried so far.

Review for CHOETECH USB Type A to C Cable

Full Disclaimer: I was offered a discount in exchange for a review, however, I still had to pay for the cable and will be providing the most unbiased review as possible.

Pros:
- Lengthy
- Durable
- No issues with charging/data transfer
Cons:
- Isn't a unibody connector like the stock ones from Google (not a big problem though, haven't had issues with it, just noticed it and I'm being nitpicky)
Summary: I've owned this cable for about two weeks now, and it has worked flawlessly. Many ROMS have been transferred and many hours of charging has this cable helped me with. I also slammed my car door on it accidentally and it just put a small mark into the side of the cable, while the cable itself still works flawlessly. It's an awesome cord that does its job and I look forward to using it. Anyone here should know how frustratingly short the Type A to C cable that Google has sent with us is, was a breath of fresh air to have all this room to work with finally.
I also had a chance to compare this 2m type A to type C cable with the equivalent Google 1m version (got it at a discount) and so far I am impressed.
The cable came in fairly simple "no frills" packaging. The build quality is solid, though it doesn't feel as "premium" as Google's offering. However, it's also only $9 on amazon for a 2m cable (with free prime shipping) compared to $13 for Google's version which is only 1m. It plugs in at both ends with a satisfying click. The cable is compliant with type C spec (verified using the ChechR app). It charges my Nexus 6P at the same speed as the Google cable when tried with a variety of different type A chargers I had lying around. The data transfer rates are also pretty much identical.
All in all, well worth the price and does a fine job. Highly recommended if you're looking for a longer cable that will perform well and won't damage your device.
I want to try the longer 3m cable as there are so few on the market
Reviewed and purchased cable in Dec , USB suddenly stopped charging a=or syncing with Mac or PC.
Contacted support today to get a replacement. Good construction and can't understand the sudden epic fail.
If support monitoring this tread please contact me.
thank you
Still waiting for support. I would think they would want to know when their products fail and why?

Working ethernet adapter

Utechsmart usb c ethernet adapter works great if you need a hard line ethernet adapter for your phone. Haven't done any speed tests but worked for setting up networks.
Thanks for the advice! Are you referring to the 6 in one adapter? Its rather bulky, and expensive. I only really need the ethernet on its own.
Do you have any idea what the ethernet chipset is?
I had great luck with the Cable Matters ethernet adapter and the Belkin one. I tested both and while the Belkin one was more compatible with a few random methods I was experimenting with, I ended up keeping the Cable Matters one because it was cheaper and I ended up not going with the method I was trying to do. They both allow you to charge your phone (also supports power delivery charging if that matters) while using it. I use it for ethernet tethering and it works really well
Cable Matters: https://www.cablematters.com/pc-1370-125-usb-c-to-ethernet-adapter-with-power-delivery.aspx
Belkin: https://www.belkin.com/us/business/audio-video-adapters/usb-c-to-ethernet-charge-adapter/p/p-inc001/
p.s. I tested this about half a year ago and the Belkin one was over $50 at the time but now it has gone down in price at the time of posting this it is like $33 or something so I would probably recommend it over the Cable Matters one. The build quality on the Belkin was a bit better than the Cable Matters product.

Lenovo Tab M8 OTG + Charging

I picked up a Lenovo Tab M8 from walmart (Part number: ZA5C0045US). It comes with a small dock that charges the table via a two pin connector.
I was trying to set this up with an OTG cable so that I can attach a high end sound card. I notice that once I plug the OTG cable, the tablet stops charging via the dock. It's like OTG and charging is not allowed at the same time.
I also tried making my own OTG + charging cable (with a 10K resistor between the ID pin and ground), but it seems that the OTG function will not work unless the ID pin is grounded. I know that other devices allow for OTG + charging when the ID pin has a resistor to ground with a certain value.
Is there a way of finding out if lenovo tablets allow this? If so, where can I go an find out what type of resistor value this tablet will detect as allowing the function of OTG + charging?
Also, this tablet is rooted. Is there a software based solution like my old Nexus 7 (2013) where you could enable OTG + charging?
I've been at this for a couple of days now, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Have you had any progress on this? I would like the same function.
Doing some reading though. I think a 10k resistor is too low, normally seen 64k or 100k
Hi, I just signed up to leave a reply here. I also was looking for a replacement for my slightly outdated Nexus 2013 in my car and stumbled upon this thread. So got a used M8 (TB 8505F ZA5G0038SE) and gave it a try.
With a 10k (measured 9.8k) resistor between ID pin and ground, OTG and charge works perfectly, without changing anything in software. With a 2A charger, battery charging is pretty slow, but the battery doesn't drain while using navigation and music (contrary to the Nexus )
So, for me it is a quite good solution.
Thank you for the info guys
I also have a TB 8505F and needed this function in my car.
For me the 10K resistor works, now it both charges and I can use my accessory (OBD2 reader)
Before this I tried a 100K resistor and that did not work so I had started to give up.
Just an update, maybe someone needs the info: I tried to make a second Y-OTG-cable with the same components, and it didn't work. Charging went on and off, no otg function. I decided to play again with the resistor values and it worked again with 12.9k. Maybe there is a certain range, which the second cable was slightly out of.
Hi All, i just bought the same tablet for similar purpose and i was wondering if when the cable is built using the 10k-12.9k resistor, i can still use the docking station that it comes with>? has anyone tried it out like this?
