Hello guys
I have a little problem, who seems to be stupid but.. I accidentally putted some (salted) water on my phone at the beach, and now, the Power button seems to be dead..By the way, the phone didn't get submerged. The button is getting activated by itself and it causes bootloop, some times just random lock, power menu who is displayed at random moments.. and, obviously, when I press the button, the phone doesn't get locked, and then the button doesn't work.
Need I to disassemble my phone to fix it ? Any ideas?
Thanks. :good:
(Sry for my crappy english x) )
Well dude, since that you perfectly know the motive, that's surely an hardware issue other than software related. Some salt could be still inside, remained there once water dried out from the phone. Yeah, you'll need to disassemble it.

Hey ya all
Ive tried to google for this issue but haven't found anything. I got it yesterday evening, about 1-2 hours after OTA update to 2.3.4.
So what happens is when I hit the on/off button to turn of the screen, it sometimes goes black for about half a second and then turns back on. Same when I try to wake it, goes light and then goes dark. So it seams like a dubbleclick almost.
Sometimes I've also got the issue that my Home button just keeps making screen shots, took me a while to figure out thats conected to the power button. How am I supposed to take a screenshot? Could it be a simple hardware issue where the button gets stuck? I've tried to remove the backcover and clean up, but it all seams fine for my untrained eye.
How are you holding the phone when this happens? This same thing happens to me sometimes if I kind of wrap my hand around it when I pick it up. I unconsciously hit the volume button like half a second before I hit the power button, and the volume button wakes the phone & then the power button turns it right back off.
It can happen whatever way Im holding it im afraid, and it has only occured since last night. Lets see if someone else got this after 2.3.4 or if its just a wierd coincidence.
And also, as I said, it seam to bug out my screenshot function.
That's not a coincidence, happens to me as well.
My guess is that's because of the new screenshot feature (hold Power+Home). Can anyone hazard a guess as to how to turn it off?
Well, guess it's a good thing it aint then, hopefully it'll get fixed.
No one else with this issue? It anoyys me alot
I have this issue, but it only happens if I press the button too fast or something. I don't know how to explain.
happens to me too
Randomly enough, just tried the screenshot function and it said saved to Camera folder but it's not there. What app is used to take it? Someone said it was MySketcher but I don't know
I spoke to HTC support sweden today and they didnt seam to be aware of this issue atleast. Keeps happening to me about 30% of the times i hit the button.. I dont think its hardware issue but didnt care to factory reset the phone yet.. Anyone of you with the issue has other than stock rom? Did it only happen after you upgraded to latest firmware? Ive only had it since 2.3.4.
I'm getting this exact same issue since upgrading to 2.3.4. I have a stock ROM too. It's really annoying, press the on/off button and it doesnt always turn it off, it does exactly the same as what the op says.
Also getting it take screen shots when I press the home button.

Was abit tricky to understand you, well anyway, so you had it repaired then? Id love to avoid that, hate being without the phone. But maybe thats the only solution.
Thanks for your input.
Yea I'm not so sure if this is a software thing. I haven't experienced this during regular use, but I have experienced a double-press effect while in Clockwork Mod. If I press the button on the leftmost part and do it slowly, I can get a double click without actually clicking it twice. Scares the crap out of me when I'm flashing roms and kernels.
So maybe something is up with the power button itself? Too sensitive maybe?
same issue here, was afraid it was my button. first i thought it was crt animations that were causting it. i have to go in to build.prop and turn off power+home screen shots because half the time i hit home it take a screenshot. not sure what's up with the power button.
have the issue on both bulletproof and eaglesblood, both 2.3.4
Happens to me as well and drives me absolutely insane.. The problem is definitely hardware.. I got a replacement back cover under warranty and after two weeks the problem is back just as bad.
To somewhat remedy the screen off/on flicker, i use 'screen off and lock' for long press of search button.. Not the same I know, but at least it doesn't flicker back on.
As for recovery, you can use home/menu for up/down, back for back and search for select.. I find this light years easier than having to ninja push the power button to avoid a double press.
I wish there was some way to fix the damn button tho.. I don't understand how HTC screwed it up so bad.

Having the same problem. Is the problem with the back cover or the phone itself? I looked at the button underneath the case and it looks bent. I was thinking maybe a tiny piece of paper inside would help, if it does, I'll report back
EDIT: playing with the button with the case off shows no problem. It has to be the way the case interacts with the button
EDIT 2: A piece of paper doesn't completely relieve the problem but does make it much harder to reproduce, and in my opinion, it's much nicer to press now
EDIT 3: Thicker paper=issue solved. I'll send HTC an email about it not reaching the button all the way, maybe they can do a recall on affected backings

I ripped off a little piece of paper from a paper cd case about the width of the button inside, I then folded it until I found the perfect thickness and set it on top. I just carefully put the backing back on. It pushes the power button up about double what it was. I'd take pics but all it is is a piece of paper sitting on top XD

Hi guys
Unfortunatly my time has come to have a possible hardware issue.
Yesterday my N5 was connected via USB (like I usually leave it resting at work / charging) and out of the blue, rebooted. Google logo shows up, and reboots right away. Trying VolDown + Power shows up the menu but I hardly have any time to select bootloader or recovery, and when I do, it eventually reboots again after a couple seconds.
I'm able to turn it on and have it on if I avoid touching the power button, when I do, sometimes it works (screens just turns off), sometimes ir shuts down after a few seconds after doing so. It's not always, but happens three out of five times.
Connecting the USB cable has the same behaviour, sometimes it's alright and I'm able to copy files and so on, sometimes it shuts off and there it goes into bootloop again.
So, I got home, opened it and I looked like a donkey looking at a castle lol. I had a disconnected brown wire on the right side of the battery which I was able to fix, but that doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem.
The power button feels ok, it's not exactly rattled or anything, it has on/off feeling. if you know what I mean.
Problem is, I bought this in second hand in london about 6 months ago, would be hard to RMA and probably they would give me the finger.
Anyway, suggestions? Anyone went through anything like this? I doubt it's a software issue (rom) cause the same behaviour happens when on recovery / bootloader. Sometimes it holds on and lets me do things, sometimes it doesn't. Most often, doesn't.
Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

I can't, was bought in second hand in a shop, besides I opened it and the water sensor is pinkish (never touched water, probably humidity).
I can only do that around christmas time.
Any other tip ? Something I can do before considering something like that?

By sending in for repair or replacement, I meant to LG. Not Google for RMA.
LG will charge you for the repair or replacement.
There really isn't much you can do otherwise.
Hello, today my phone keeps rebooting for no reason. It just reboots immediately after the Google logo shows up or during the flying balls animation. Once in a while it will be able to start, but then back to reboot loop very soon. I can't even use the "Volume down + Power" screen (sorry I forgot what it's called) because the phone will restart immediately.
I didn't install any new app today. My phone is unrooted and is on Lollipop 5.0.1. Bought it used last week after I hardbricked my Moto G.
Please tell me this is fixable. My Moto G is still lying in front of me. The Nexus better not join its brother.
I got the same problem here, all of a sudden it turned off and began this incredibly fast boot loop, I can't enter recovery mode because the fastboot screen goes off as soon as it appears. I'll try to figure something out and come back here. Thanks
I recently installed Lollipop 5.0.1 so it might be something with it too
Thanks. Please tell me as soon as you find the problem. I hope it's just a software (particularly Lollipop) problem and is fixable. It's incredibly frustrating to see 2 phones go down in a 2-week span. **** my life.
ok, so my phone turned on and I actually was able to use it for a while, until I slightly touched the power button (but didn't actually click or even apply force on it) and then the problem occured. So it's either that the power button became overly sensitive or a sensor malfunctioned (I'm a noob so forgive me if I sounded silly).

So, I was looking for answers and figured out it was a hardware problem, the internal power button was stuck. I saw some tutorials on how to disassembly the phone and managed to loose the button up a bit and now it's working fine. Sending it from the phone right now hahah
PS. I'm not a phone master or something, I saw the tutorial and got the motherboard out to fix the button, the worst part was unscrewing those tiny little screws, but it was kinda easy at the end.

That's good news. I don't have the tools to open the phone so I'll have to go to the repair shop next week. Please inform me if the problem somehow returns to you.
P.S: I'm actually gaming on it right now without problem, just gotta be careful not to touch the power button
Hi,
This has happened already thrice, but this time it was too much. Each time I was using my phone in the rain the home button was more and more unresponsive, forcing me to press it harder in order for it to work, but it was fine until recently.
To my dumbness, I insisted on using my phone while it was raining, and after some time the phone's not been exposed to water both home buttons and capacitive buttons started to malfunction. It seemed as if all the three buttons were pressing themselves without command, and trying to press one of them myself resulted in no reaction.
I used the good known old trick, that is, putting the phone into a bowl with rice, which really helped. The buttons do not press themselves anymore, though I have to apply very strong pressure on the home button for it to work. Weirdly, sometimes even that does not result in a reaction, somtimes I only have to press it just a little bit harder and it works for a longer period of time, then again starts to malfunction. The phone has been lying in the rice for over 12 hours straight, so I assume it would not help any further.
Any ideas on how could I fix that?
Also, the warranty is long over.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
To start, I bought this phone used a few months ago. I'm traveling, my other phone was old and the camera was broken, and I wanted something that wouldn't be bricked if I fell into a river while hiking (it happened in the past; the current was faster and the river deeper than I anticipated). Anyways, so I got this S7 and the only issue seemed to be that the volume down key was a bit... off.
A few days ago, I went for a hike in here in the south of Spain, in the seemingly only place with some water... and... only thinking about the phone's supposed water-resistance, I went under a waterfall with it to take some video. It worked (although somewhat glitchy), then it displayed the volume mini-screen on the display as if I had pressed one of the volume buttons (I hadn't), and then it restarted. Into safe mode...
Since then, everything else besides the volume has worked without any flaw. I can use every other feature of the phone, but if I restart it, it ALWAYS starts into safe mode. Using the diagnostics screen (*#0*#), neither of the volume keys registers. I thought perhaps the volume down key was stuck as when I press the home and power buttons (without touching vol down), it takes a screenshot. So I took the back cover off and checked it.
The initially dodgy vol down button was a result of the previous owner breaking something and having the back cover taken off to fix it. They had reglued (rather than using the standard adhesive strip) the cover on and the glue had gotten into button's allocated space. Their shoddy gluing job was also the reason why water was able to enter so easily when I went under the waterfall... Anyways, I cleaned their glue out and detached the flex cable for the volume buttons. With no change. The phone still starts into safe mode and the screenshot is still taken without any need for the volume key.
My last thought was that if I hold the power and home key during startup, then maybe I can use the same process as a screenshot to get into download mode. Turns out I cannot...
---------------------
So, backstory and details aside, does anyone have any previous experiences like this? Could it, in fact, be the power buttons (I initially thought so, but the lack of change when detached makes me think otherwise)? Or did the water that seeped in maybe affect the motherboard and is there a place/method by which I could check this?
Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated as I'm rather stumped at the moment.
