I have a Samsung Note 8, and ever since the OS upgraded to Oreo I can't seem to connect my PC to the phone for media transfers and such. I have set the phone to usb debugging on developer options. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
In 'device manager' of your Windows PC, can you find your Note 8 in USB Device List?
Uninstall it there, then connect your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to computer with USB cable. Your computer would install a driver automatically.
After the driver successfully installed, your Note 8 would be recognized as a portable device.
Step 2: After the driver successfully installed, your Note 8 would be recognized as a portable device.

My PC doesn't show my Note 8. Nor does my note 8 give me the option to switch to media transfer. It only shows "charging" on the drop down. I have the developer options set to USB debugging. And I've tried setting the USB settings on all setting mtp, etc..

Follow these steps on your Windows PC:
a. Click “Start” and click “Run.”
b. Type “devmgmt.msc” and hit “Enter.”
c. Expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”
Check if there is some item has yellow exclamation.
If yes, right-click that item and select uninstall,
disconnect Note 8 to PC,
reconnect Note 8 to PC with usb cable,
wait Windows to install driver for Note 8.
Can you tell me how to post?

I have done this and it shows nothing. In this picture. I have my Note 8 plugged in, and as you can see, its not showing on the USB controller. The USB hubs are working, I usually run an external hard drive from it. I've tested all the other hubs and they work fine.

If then, try to download USB driver for your Note 8 from Samsung official website -
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/
Or you may try to make use of a Windows utility by Samsung, Samsung Kies.
Good luck to you.

Hey guys here is the way to connect to pc
Case 1(your phone drivers are not installed correctly)
The best way is to install kies Download samsung usb drivers for mobile phones
Use moborobo pc suite
Case 2(u have installed drivers properly but still it is not recognized)
"Run "regedit"and select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices" folder. See all the "Dos Devices" listed? You'll have one entry for each physically mounted drive (HDD or Disc) plus you'll have one show up for each USB drive you attempt to insert. Double click each device listed and seeifyou seetextsaying something like"U.S.B.S.T.O.R...". Once you find that device, right click it and select "Rename". Now change the drive letter to something unused... like Q: or something. Close regedit, disconnect the USB device and reconnect
Try this it works:thumbup:

Hi,
Has anyone tried connecting the Nexus 5 to a macbook air in bootcamp? I have MTP mode enabled but cant seem to get the phone to show up as a storage device in Computer. I was however able to connect the phone via MTP to a HP laptop no problem. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Thanks.
I also have this problem. MTP is selected and my computer doesn't see it as a storage device.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I had this problem with both my Nexus 7 (2013) and the Nexus 5 in Windows 8 and it came back when I updated to 8.1 (on a Windows PC, not even through Bootcamp). The following fixed the problem each time:
1) Go to Device Manager (press WIN+R, probably CMD+R in Bootcamp, type devmgmt.msc and hit ENTER).
2) Find the phone under something like Android Devices.
3) Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
4) Select Browse my computer for driver software
5) Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6) Select USB Composite Device
Apologies if the text isn't exact, I'm actually on a Mac right now and don't have Bootcamp... and the PC I remoted into doesn't have an Android device plugged into it. But after doing all of that, Windows instantly recognized it and both MTP and USB debugging / ADB worked fine.
Hmm, so my phone is showing us as "MTP USB Device" under "Portable Devices" in device manager. And the " Update Driver Software" option is not available when I right click it.

I had the same problem!
None of the drivers works for me and the "Update driver" option is not available when my phone is plugged in.
Are you using a USB 3.0 port?
For some reason my phone works when I connect it through a USB 2.0 hub, but not when I connect it directly to the USB 3 port on my laptop.
Weird.
This solution worked for me. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512549 and see post #5. Be sure to thank n7of9 for the link and WugFresh for his toolkit solution. Enjoy.
I started to have this issue since I have formatted my PC (I've got Windows 7 Professional).
If I connect the device without the debugging USB activated, the PC doesn't recognize it, such as the device doesn't exist. Neither the classic sound which the PC does when you connect something to the USBs ports. Nothing, without the debugging USB my PC doesn't recognize nothing, and the device only goes charging, the notify of the USB connected doesn't appear, it could be because the PC doesn't recognize the device.
But if I activate the USB debugging my PC recognizes something. The auto-installation from Windows Update for the drivers starts (it says "Nexus 5"), but it doesn't find any driver on Windows Update. So I've downloaded the original Google USB drivers. I've gone on Computer -> Device -> Right click on Nexus 5 -> Update of the drivers. So I selected the unzipped folder but Windows doesn't install the drivers. It says it's impossibile to find the driver for the device, but I've selected the correct folder!
I've also tried to download the drivers with SDK Manager, but even in this way Windows doesn't install the drivers.
I've also tried to download the "naked drivers" from XDA, but that was the same result.
So I don't know how to do. Why Windows doesn't recognize my device?
My Nexus 5 is still with the stock firmware.

I had this issue with my first N7 2013. I ended up RMAing it because of touchscreen issues, and the replacement never had the issue. From my experience, I can only deduce it's a problem with the hardware.

i go to the setting - storage - usb computer connection, and check the first one (MTP). unplug and plugit again and nothing shows on my computer.

Try changing the USB connection to PTP and see if that works for you. If it doesn't, use this tool to help set up your USB connection. http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...olkit-wugs-nexus-root-toolkit-v1-8-0-t2517778 You don't have to actually root or unlock anything so the process should be pretty easy. All you need to do is click the Full Driver Installation Guide button and i will guide you through the process.

Windows 10 installs latest drivers automatically. I don't know if Windows 7 will do the same.
It's not uncommon for the problem to be on the PC side.
Try to uninstall and the drivers, update OS and clean your windows system. Then connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
For ADB connection you need either Huawei or Google drivers. Depends on Huawei model.

I have this problem on my windows 10 but not on my windows 8 laptop. The fix is to manually update the installed device driver software. That is assuming you've previously installed all drivers or windows installed them for you.
If you connect your phone to PC and put it on file transfer mode. But nothing comes up do this
Connect phone to PC.
Right click start menu
Click device manager
Expand portable devices
Under portable devices you will see mtp device or
You should see your device eg H60-L04
Right click. Update driver software
Browse my computer for driver
Click Let me pick from a list of drivers
It should show you a couple of drivers. Like MTP / MTP USB device. Just pick another from the list and click next.
Hopefully this works for you
