OTG not working on Pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I have a 5x and a pixel - I take the OTG cable (with mouse plugged in) and plug into the 5x and I get a mouse pointer on the screen and can move it around.
I take the cable out of the 5x and put it into the pixel and get nothing.
I was trying to use OTG Viewer but fell back to the mouse test as that wasn't working.
Running 8.1.0 on my Pixel, I've searched around - I ran OTG test and it says the device is OTG compatible, I just never sees the OTG device plugged in.
Anyone else see this?
Thanks!

micro USB to C adapter that works with OTG?

So I recently got a Galaxy S7 and it comes with a nice and compact OTG micro USB adapter that I'd love to be able to use on my 6P as well. Thing is, the current USB C adapters I have (techmatte) don't allow it to work. The notification about a USB drive being connected just keeps popping up and going away very fast. The OTG adapter works on my GS7 and my GS3, so I'm ruling it as the techmatte adapter. I'd really like to find a reliable micro USB to C adapter so I can just keep using my micro USB devices in a pinch.
I've read a few topics on here, most seem to be old though or don't have the info I'm looking for. So I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of something more recent and verified to be working how I want. Thanks.
I haven't been able to get OTG to work at all either.

Split cable for charging and OTG

I am trying to charge my Nexus 6P while simultaneously casting a streaming video from a USB drive to a Chromecast using a USB keyboard and mouse (Basically a computer replacement scenario). I have purchased the Cynergy 3 Port Ethernet Hub USB C with USB C connector and everything works independently but I can not seem to get it to simultaneously charge and read the USB port data. When the hub is inserted into the Nexus 6P the phone asks me to choose between 5 USB scenarios (see attached picture). When I pick “Charging” the USB ports stop working and when I unplug the power supply and then plug it back in the phone defaults to “Power supply” and the phone does not charge but the USB ports work along with the items connected to them. So I wonder if simultaneous charging and data is possible with the USB C connector on the Nexus 6P? I have read elsewhere in this forum that it may not be allowed in the USB standard but can’t find any confirmation of this. Has anyone found a cable/hub that can do this or is this not possible due to the USB C connector limitation?
You might want to try something like this.

Why tell him to waste money on something that isn't going to work? The 6P doesn't support USB PD so this isn't possible.
i think you need to do some mad hacks in the kernel to get otg and charging at once (i think they did it on the oneplus 1 and possibly on the 2nd gen n7 so maybe google those for what it needs to be done?) i tried various resistors to the sense pin on the micro usb z4 which ended up not working but i have no idea how the usb c is wired up. Good luck with it anyway

Do OTG cables work?

I've got an existing OTG cable with micro USB. Does that work for things like thumb drives and mice using the adapter?
If not, would this work?

thanks..
It comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box. You should be able to plug your thumb drive or mouse into that.

I don't know why they would get rid of something as old as OTG support so I'm assuming that yes it will work.
yes otg works and the samsung smart switch lets you plug one phone into the other and transfer data
Just reading through the AT&T manual: it states clearly that OTG will not work through the supplied USB connector (p9). Nor can you use it to charge the Note 7 from a computer (p12).
With built-in battery too - hope the Note 7 isn't just another pretty fetish.

Well all of the above work on my T-Mobile variant.
On my t-mobile Note 7, I cannot get my Dragonfly Red to work via USB OTG.

It is a DAC/Preamp. So you use the included microUSB to USB C adapter for your OTG cable?
Yup

idk but all my jump drives work just fine, same as my s7 edge.
just plug them into the usb c otg and tranfer files via samsung file app
Ok. I just realized that there is an otg usb to usb c adapter in the box. That one actually works just fine with my external dac.

I can't get my Oppo HA-2 DAC to work at all. I tried using the included adapters but nothing. I went and bought a USB - USB C cable and that also didn't work. The only way I have been able to get audio is to use a standard charging cable (USB - MicroUSB) and put the USB C adapter on the MicroUSB end. However this charges the Oppo from the Note 7 and I can't disable that. Will burn through the battery in no time! Not sure what else to try at this stage
+1 I have successfully used a SanDisk 8gb flash drive with an aftermarket Rankle usb adapter. I have an AT&T Note 7.
Cheers

I use the included USB-USB C adapter with a USB -USB Mini(?) and my Fiio Alpen. As you mentioned, the Note7 charges the DAC. This also happened with my Note4. You should be able to use a wireless charging pad to charge the Note7 at the same time. That's what I did when I was transferring files between phones. It's transportable but not very mobile.
My little micro usb fan does NOT work with the included usb 3 to microusb connector. So, i'm gonna assume OTG doesnt work as it used to.

Oneplus 7 HDMI dock

Hi,
I want to buy the oneplus 7.
Can you confirm this phone has HDMI output ? Some people say it does only work with op7 pro.
If you manage to make it work, can you tell me which dock did you use ?
Thanks,
I dont know about hdmi (i havent a cable to test) but ScreenCast(aka Miracast, aka mirror your screen by wifi) work much better than op3, more quality, stability and less lag [i test it with same tv, same wifi only diferent is the phone]
oneplus 7 supports HDMI out via USB type C port

Amazon Basics USB C to HDMI adapter and then normal HDMI
I have a HAMA dock from a usb c to HDMI/usb c/2x 3.0 usb A ports. It does output video and audio, the charging and video output is kinda fiddly. Tried getting the AMPERE app from playstore to get a reading on the charge current but it doesn't seem to detect it charging although i do think the phone is getting power. (I guess 900ma, that's what;s written on the back side of the dock). While charging and video output i managed to plug an usb stick and it worked. Tried plugging a usb mouse but for some reason it did not work.

Pixel 3 - USB-C port directionality / orientation does matter?

I have a Pixel 3 and just bought two USB 3 cables (type A to type C) from Amazon Warehouse Deals. After receiving them I tested them with my Pixel 3. Weirdly, the first one would only connect in USB 2/High Speed mode. Until I inserted the USB-C plug the other way around in my Pixel. Suddenly it was connected with Super Speed/USB 3. What?
On my wife's Pixel 3a the orientation does not matter, it is always only USB 2 (but I think that is one of the points where the 3a has lower specs than the 3).
So I tried some other devices. I have any Icy Box IB-CR401-C3 USB-C card reader. It is only recognized in one orientation in my Pixel 3. On the Pixel 3a, it works both ways.
I also tried the USB-C cable (both ends) that normally connects a Chromebook to my screen. While the orientation on the PC's UBC-C port does not seem to matter, it only connects with Super Speed in one orientation on the phone. Flip the connector 180°, and it is only USB 2. I am very confused.
I tried cleaning the phone's port from pocket lint, but as the connection does work (at USB 2.0 speed) and charging works fine as far as I can tell, I am not sure that is the issue anyway.
Has anyone else noticed this? You can check with USB Tree Viewer under Windows or under Linux with
Code:
lsusb
to identify Bus and Device number and
Code:
lsusb -t
to see the connection speed by Bus/Port/Device.
