So I recently got a Galaxy S7 and it comes with a nice and compact OTG micro USB adapter that I'd love to be able to use on my 6P as well. Thing is, the current USB C adapters I have (techmatte) don't allow it to work. The notification about a USB drive being connected just keeps popping up and going away very fast. The OTG adapter works on my GS7 and my GS3, so I'm ruling it as the techmatte adapter. I'd really like to find a reliable micro USB to C adapter so I can just keep using my micro USB devices in a pinch.
I've read a few topics on here, most seem to be old though or don't have the info I'm looking for. So I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of something more recent and verified to be working how I want. Thanks.
I haven't been able to get OTG to work at all either.

I picked up a SanDisk Dual USB drive, and although it works well, I was disappointed to see it's a bit too big to work with the bumper case I use. I briefly considered modifying the case, but think my best option is getting a short USB extension cable... Though I thought that would be a simple and cheap solution. After a little looking around though, I'm not sure I know what micro usb extension I need - MHL, OTG, Power? As best as I can tell, I need what they're marketing as a micro to micro OTG extension - but if someone can confirm, I'd appreciate it. My concern comes from comments on some saying they don't work for charging or syncing (search for "YCS Basics 6 inch USB Micro male to female OTG extension cable" on amazon), but it sounds like the mhl cable is just for HDMI.
Help?
Just get a small USB OTG cable. I use one sometimes with my Corsair OTG drive and it works great. Not all of my cases will let me lug the micro USB in easily hence why I have a small OTG cable. I can post pictures if you would like.

Can you return it for the new USB 3.0 model? Supposedly they made the uUSB connector longer to work with more cases.

Really? That would have been great... but no. Or maybe... but probably not worth it to me at this point. I got a standard OTA cable and have just been living with it that way. And I haven't looked, but I'd have to think they're charging a premium for the 3.0 enhancement. I bought mine during one of those Christmas sales, so I got it real cheap at the time. Thanks though.
So I got the S7, and I also own a premium pair of headphones and a portable amp/DAC as well. My headphones are the AKG K553 Pro, and my amp/DAC is the Oppo HA-2. When I connect an OTG micro USB to micro USB (both sides male) cable to the S7 and my HA-2, ALL it does is start charging my HA-2, which it's not even supposed to do. No music gets sent to it.
The ONLY way to get it to work is to use a regular USB to micro USB cable........ put the included S7 USB to Micro USB adapter (white) on the USB side and plug ONLY that side into the phone. It does send music via USB this way, but it still is charging the HA-2 when it's not supposed to, and also the adapter included with the S7 sucks because it doesn't lock in well so comes out very easily.
There has to be a setting or something I can do to change it so the 1st cable I used (micro to micro) actually works but doesn't charge the HA-2. If anyone knows, let me know. Or else I won't be keeping this phone for very long it seems.
Thanks!
I am trying to charge my Nexus 6P while simultaneously casting a streaming video from a USB drive to a Chromecast using a USB keyboard and mouse (Basically a computer replacement scenario). I have purchased the Cynergy 3 Port Ethernet Hub USB C with USB C connector and everything works independently but I can not seem to get it to simultaneously charge and read the USB port data. When the hub is inserted into the Nexus 6P the phone asks me to choose between 5 USB scenarios (see attached picture). When I pick “Charging” the USB ports stop working and when I unplug the power supply and then plug it back in the phone defaults to “Power supply” and the phone does not charge but the USB ports work along with the items connected to them. So I wonder if simultaneous charging and data is possible with the USB C connector on the Nexus 6P? I have read elsewhere in this forum that it may not be allowed in the USB standard but can’t find any confirmation of this. Has anyone found a cable/hub that can do this or is this not possible due to the USB C connector limitation?
You might want to try something like this.

Why tell him to waste money on something that isn't going to work? The 6P doesn't support USB PD so this isn't possible.
i think you need to do some mad hacks in the kernel to get otg and charging at once (i think they did it on the oneplus 1 and possibly on the 2nd gen n7 so maybe google those for what it needs to be done?) i tried various resistors to the sense pin on the micro usb z4 which ended up not working but i have no idea how the usb c is wired up. Good luck with it anyway
I've got an existing OTG cable with micro USB. Does that work for things like thumb drives and mice using the adapter?
If not, would this work?

thanks..
It comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box. You should be able to plug your thumb drive or mouse into that.

I don't know why they would get rid of something as old as OTG support so I'm assuming that yes it will work.
yes otg works and the samsung smart switch lets you plug one phone into the other and transfer data
Just reading through the AT&T manual: it states clearly that OTG will not work through the supplied USB connector (p9). Nor can you use it to charge the Note 7 from a computer (p12).
With built-in battery too - hope the Note 7 isn't just another pretty fetish.

Well all of the above work on my T-Mobile variant.
On my t-mobile Note 7, I cannot get my Dragonfly Red to work via USB OTG.

It is a DAC/Preamp. So you use the included microUSB to USB C adapter for your OTG cable?
Yup

idk but all my jump drives work just fine, same as my s7 edge.
just plug them into the usb c otg and tranfer files via samsung file app
Ok. I just realized that there is an otg usb to usb c adapter in the box. That one actually works just fine with my external dac.

I can't get my Oppo HA-2 DAC to work at all. I tried using the included adapters but nothing. I went and bought a USB - USB C cable and that also didn't work. The only way I have been able to get audio is to use a standard charging cable (USB - MicroUSB) and put the USB C adapter on the MicroUSB end. However this charges the Oppo from the Note 7 and I can't disable that. Will burn through the battery in no time! Not sure what else to try at this stage
+1 I have successfully used a SanDisk 8gb flash drive with an aftermarket Rankle usb adapter. I have an AT&T Note 7.
Cheers

I use the included USB-USB C adapter with a USB -USB Mini(?) and my Fiio Alpen. As you mentioned, the Note7 charges the DAC. This also happened with my Note4. You should be able to use a wireless charging pad to charge the Note7 at the same time. That's what I did when I was transferring files between phones. It's transportable but not very mobile.
My little micro usb fan does NOT work with the included usb 3 to microusb connector. So, i'm gonna assume OTG doesnt work as it used to.
Anyone know of any good adaptors similar to the OTG which would allow to connect USB memory sticks via the USB-C port.

Huh?G I'm using the Note 7 adapter. According to another site some OTG cables don't work with the Z so beware.
Found this on Google store. May go for it unless anyone's already tried with no luck. https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_usb_standard_a_adapter

Not sure if the actual term for it is OTG as that's what the adaptor was called for Microusb to USB A connection.

Thanks but that's from the U.S. I'm in the uk
I havent used them but some companies are making flash drive with usb c and usb a if all you want it for is a flash drive you can get a flash drive that works without an adapter
Be careful of hard adapters, they (Ha Ha, YOU) will break themselves or your port
Edit, these may not be OTG also. Yet similar OTG 90* adapters have similar drawbacks/ benefits.
There are 2 like this on Amazon.

I am going to get this soon.
This right angle horizontal, is not yet reviewed, but a sister item with right angle (up) is.
Frys usually stocks this style in micro, maybe a C version is there?
I have used one! The one I use works only with USB flash drives that are fat32 format! The brand of mine is belkin and I bought it from best buy!
Very nice to use this for watching movies and not having to use up storage on the device.
Only drawback is that the usb-c port does not allow you to use wired headphones at the same time! So, I had to go wireless Bluetooth headset!

Curious question. Since this is one of the first phones where the add-on option comes into play (mods), couldnt one devise an external ssd drive moto mod? Either that or one of those all-in-one adapter mods where i can plug in older tech? Im always skeptical about destroying the one & only port on the phone anyway.
In case anyone only wants flash storage I purchased the Sandisk Dual ultra and it works great, usb c and a usb a connector.
Also only have to carry one thing as opposed to two. I bought mine with 128gb storage, preformatted to fat32, was simply plug and play.
