please read and respond very important - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hi everyone. Anyone have a problem or bug with xzp. Example; touch screen problem, screen bleeding issue, camera distortion issue, pixel grid issue, losing Wi-Fi connection, weak LTE signal strength etc. Last update could fixed these problems.Would you recommend to buy xzp? Please answer very important for me.

in terms of pixel grid, hmm yah its noticeable if you look closely...
sony claims that the phone has a 4k screen/ pannel so the grid of the pixels changes so its noticeable.
others say its the assembly, i really dont know but the screen does show grids if you really really look close but its not an issue.
no touch screen problems.
no screen bleeding.
camera distortion? hmmmm depends, on auto mode yes could have especially in low light due to lack of OIS (optical image stabilization). But morning pics are really ok and are in fact on a high level, could be stated on the level of xz2/samsung s8, better than Oneplus 5, check youtube for that.
in terms of video though, it has a really good video camera.
check youtube honestly, speed tests against any phone out there this device is almost unbeaten! camera is great, maybe not THE best but ONE OF THE BEST.
again, youtube any thing related to the phone against other phones and see which one has the best features that suit your needs.

Great phone, camera performance not on par, Fixes ?

The Touch Pro is a great phone. But some things can be improved.
I would like the communities help and will provide some of my own knowledge.
One of these problems is the camera and its video performance. Other phones using the same GFX chipset have been advertised to be able to do VGA (640x480) recording @ 30 FPS. The Raphael only does a maximum of QCIF (352x288) @ 25 FPS and even this drops to sometimes even 4 FPS in bad light conditions. Even videos made in maximum resolution lack a good bitrate and shows blocks (bad quality) when played back.
Taking things one step at a time I think we should try to improve the quality for the existing video mode. So I did some research on the forums. This is what I’ve found.
The way I see it is (even for pictures not only video) is that the camera switches to some kind of “night mode” as soon as it is pointed towards a dark area. This is automatic and happens by itself. We have to find some way to turn this off as it causes more problems than it solves. And no changing white balance from auto to something else does not help. I haven’t been able to find a solution for this so I need the communities help.
I’ve looked through the registry and found settings for bitrates and FPS. I’ve played with them and they don’t make any difference.
So does anyone have a solution to this “night mode” problem ? any ideas ? Once we solve this we can move on to solve the low bitrates problem.
All opinions are welcome.
I think the Touch Pro uses the same chipset as Xperia's X1a instead of the X1i's Qualcomm chipset. Probably one of those rolled of the same assemblely line but some got hardware options disabled.
In video recording, wish the camera would maintain fps instead of longer exposure time.
I just want to disable the low light compensation, the so called "night mode" because it sucks and thats what causes the camera slow down. Someone must be up to the task ?
Maybe we can rip the X1 camera software when it comes out ?
Without the drop in the FPS, there would not be enough light exposure to capture any discernable image. You would end up with 30fps of black screen. The CCD and image processor simply aren't strong enough to compensate, and I doubt there's any software fix available.
There was a temporary fix for the very same problem on the Kaiser. Go into camera mode turn the screen off for about 15 sec and turn it back on . A bug in the camera software would disable the low light compensation. The pictures and videos were darker but not completely black so to say. They were very viewable but the performance was super improved. The same bug does not exist in the Raphael. But there must be some way to turn it off.
StashCompInc what?! Almoste everyday I find new issues about htc latest ppcs  .. so pitty..
Have you tried to contact Ateksoft? Let's hope that they will release something for the latest qualcomm devices
http://www.ateksoft.com/
They dont have any email on thier site. And any thing you ask them about their coolcamera software they dont reply. I wonder if there is a developer here that can create a new camera software ?
Im wondering about this problem as well. There must be a way to override this function.. the Cam is actually OK under wery bright light conditions. But as soon as it gets a litte darker, the cam is unusable. Ive noticed that if you change the whitebalance under some lighting conditions there is a small improvement. Still no fixes for this problem? you should think with the prosessor and the ram in this device there should be no problem getting the cam viewer to work properly..
We need a new camera software which supports video, 640*480 @ 30 FPS. Wonder if anyone on the forum can write one ?
But will that fix the choppy cam viewer? Or will it just make it worse? I saw somebody mention that the ccd chip just werent good enough. And that should suggest that this is a hardware issue. But if someone could provide us with a new cam software we would know for sure. or at least find a solution to override the nightmode it goes in to when dark or darker lighting conditions.
Yeah, CoolCamera is a software but does not work with the Raphael. Thier support does not answer questions for a new version update.
hmm. okey. Then all we can do is wait and see if perhaps somebody here in the forum maybe comes with a solution.
I dont think there will be, we had the same problem with the Kaiser and still no solution.
Thats a shame. I didnt buy this device cause of the cam. But when i notice that the cam actually functions good under some conditions, im just annoyed by the fact that its not optimized. i really cant se the problem in fixing this. But if the responce from HTC support is that the pro is not a multimedia device, end of story. Then it seems that we wont get any further with this.
Yeah I know but we dont have a choice. I need a device that does everything since I dont want to carry more than one device. And this seems to be the best bet.
Someone here should mod the CoolCamera Software or the HTC one or maybe make one completely new one.
I think you already know this, but the camera in TP is limited due to some patent issues in America. That's the reason why X1i(international) records better video than X1a(america). I believe it's the software which is limiting the video resolution and camera fps.
Do not expect anything better from HTC unless they make an european version of the device. Now it's the same device for all over the world.
So you also believe this to be a software issue rather than bad hardware? If so then somebody should be able to change the coolcamera software as mentioned before or to make fixes to the software thats allready in the TP. I also bought this product to get a sort off all in one device. And as said before, i didnt expect the cam to perform as good as my N95. But i did expect it to be usable. And as it is now, its really a pain in the ass. Now im seriously thinking about getting another device. And its a damn shame. Cause the TP i just a really beautiful and practical device..
That should not stop others (developers) from modding or porting a new camera software.
My old XDA IIi is able to record VGA video @12-15fps with CoolCamera whereas the maximum that can be achieved via HTC software is QVGA @15fps ! So, a piece of software can definitely help !
Yeah exactly and that phone is old by far. The Raphael has a lot more power just limited by video. Someone please write/hack (from another device X1 ?) a better camera software !!! I will pay for it if it has improvements !

Didn't like S7 Edge at all.

I have used LG G3 for 2 years then after 1 week of Lg G4 usage found out its battery is thrash ordered myself a 2017 barcoded Samsung G935F.
7.0 Nougat update completed.
Pros:
Good battery endurance.
Does not overheat easily.
Thin and light.
Cons:
Impossible to type while laying in bed or armchair bcs there is no palmguard so you keep pressing home or back button during typing.
Camera isnt better than a g3 or g4 as quality wise.
Fingerprint does not work perfectly.
There is no sound volume slider in drop down menu this sucks as hell.
Most apps and websites are not edge screen compatible so you end up sliding page left or right to read.
Does not have hardware for remote controlling.
Flashlight isnt bright enough.
I am open to suggestions as long as they are meaningful.

Sorry but post lost credibility if ur trying to say a g3 or g4 camera is better then the S7..(laughing out loud)..I'm not a huge S7 fan either but the camera is lightyears ahead of a g3/4..

I found fingerprint sensor to work well as long as I set it up properly.(follow the instructions letter to letter and do not change the angle during setup)
Sound volume slider is always there for me or did I misunderstood you?? carrier firmware??
Not sure what you mean by not edge compatible. Website and apps work the same way as any flat screen with just a little distortion on the edge but doesn't affect any usability since it's still visible and readable.
Flashlight have 5 level of brightness and level 5 are super bright I start to worry it will burn. Maybe you're on level 1.

Thank you. I have recorded (default settings, did not touch anything) my sister and dad next to sofa and with G4 and S7 in a row and then streamed video to UHD TV, both looked same except S7 was zoomed in so I disabled stabilizator in options and streamed again. It was same quality. Lights, colors everything.

Thank you for your reply.
Fingerprint reader is too fast to judge I guess, I had to re-apply adding finger process several times to make it working more properly.
When I surf the web, some websites' texts are starting from the very edge screen (left) so I can't read first letters of comments or titles. Not sure how to fix that or those websites need to fix it. This does not happen in apps like Youtube or Facebook, must be optimized already.
Sound slider it is shown when I use hardware sound buttons but I would love to see it also next to brightness slider when I drag down the top menu like in LG. I am not allowed to post an image url yet.
This model isn't customized by any carrier and more like an international unit. Only samsung apps are pre-installed.
I didn't know there was levels for brightness, I will check it out and thank you for that. Hope that level is auto applied also to Flashlight shortcut when I enable it.
My biggest problem is to be able to use phone while laying in bed, holding phone on air and typing, some of my hand have to touch hardware buttons and its not solved yet.
I think I need a case to have more space for holding phone on air and type properly.
Thank you guys for your comments. I have searched the web and did not find much about these worries so I had to make a thread.

@fatihso
Sorry. Respectfully Disagree with you..
I`m using this device for almost one year. I don`t have these isssues (specially regarding camera). I`m happy with this device.
+ for the volume slider in notifications! I have it on my ipad but I have to press a physical button on my phone.
I think he's not wrong on that camera part. Believe me I love this phone and its camera. I had a 6P and Note 4 before. Even though I was sure the S7 captured much better pics, lately when I compared 6P and S7, I found the 6P doing better at post processing with HDR mode. S7 oversharpens images and it looks quite horrible sometimes, specially portraits.
And about the clarity thing, yeah 12 megapixels vs 16 megapixels. It shows when zoomed in. But overall S7 camera is much better than other smartphones (taking in consideration video, low light, pro mode etc).
I think in daylight the G4 may take better pics cos of higher resolution (visible when viewed on a bigger screen). Not sure because haven't used a G4 before.
G4 pro mode doesn't compare with s7 edge...try take a pic at midnight with G4 In pro mode at 30s and one with s7 edge at 10s..see who takes it better...LG?
Obvious troll is obvious.
I have this phone for over one year now,its a great phone, but I would like to make my observation about the camera quality too:
its a great camera for scenes for sure, but for human faces, from a bit distance, will blow them out of proportion due to its large pixels letting in too much light in bright conditions.
And also I miss the volume control from the drop down menu without pressing the hardware keys.
everything else is great and I love it a lot.
I have s7 edge for a year now.
Your cons are funny
1) It is possible, maybe you have small hands, that thing doesnt happens to me.
2) Camera is ok, comparing it to g3 is...idk it's silly.
3) If you set up 4x fingerprints 2x left 2x right, make sure you swipe it in all directions. Mine works much better than on marshmallow, 99% of the time.
4) In dropdown menu, you have ringtone, media, notifications and system tones. Where is a problem there?
5) I am using UC browser, no problems in web surfing.
6) IC port missing, the only one annoying thing for me, cant use it as a remote control sometimes.
7) You have free edge app where you can adjust level of flashlight.
The biggest problem for me is the battery after one year. It's capacity is much smaller, and SOT isn't as good when I bought it.

OMG troll kiddie
camera not good LOL
I love the phone but I will admit the camera is no where near as good as my g4.
But I do prefer the s7 edge because it doesn't bootloop. Lol.
Only joking . Apart from the camera the s7 edge is better in every way .

On the finger print sensor, I set both thumbs and both index fingers with multiple angles so I can unlock the phone without having to line up my fingers every time. Other than wet or dirty fingers I haven't had any issues at all. I'm even going to set my touch screen bike gloves as a finger print so I can unlock it when I ride too.
Thank you for replies guys,
It's been like 5 days and I am getting used to the phone. I still don't have any case or alike.
I still have problem typing while on bed. It's not going to be solved without a case to stop my hand touching bottom of the phone while typing in air. My hands are big.
Camera, it has a good camera but in my 1st post I mentioned I recorded a video and then streamed it to TV and I didn't see any difference so it was based on that. I didn't see its worse or better, it felt the same output.
I still would love a volume slider in drop down menu without pressing hardware button. Helps alot if your phone is on table and during watching videos/playing games, you won't need to hold phone and press volume button. Also double tap to lock/unlock phone. I tried some apps but they felt like draining battery after giving them administrative permissions to monitor system.
Anyway, thanks again for your comments.
You had it for 5 days. Man you aren't allowed to speak anything, please.... Use Nova Launcher, standard launcher is annoying. There you can use double tap to lock the phone. And for using it in bed, you just don't know how to.

The s7 camera is decent but it's clearly optimised for low light with a 1.7 aperture where it is superb.
It's all about compromising and Samsung has probably quite rightly assumed that most folks will snap their sprogs and pets often in less than ideal conditions.
As an enthsiast I have taken some great shots and provided links before but I admit that 12mp on a fixed lens camera may be inadequate if you want to crop or print a little larger. Samsungs own S6 resolves better in good light thanks to 16 mp.
I haven't read up about the S8 camera yet but it uses algorithm to supposedly improve.
That's not enough for me so I see if the Note 8 brings something useful to the table (not just camera wise) to make me upgrade. If not its the next iphone or the S9.
Very happy with the S7 otherwise in every respect.

video quality issue, poor results (like color banding?)

Hi Guys!
I have recently bought the S7 (Exynos, Samsung camera sensors), considering the good price/performance ratio after reading a lot of reviews how good this phone was. Since I owned a low-budget 4 year old Huawei smartphone - which had a price tag about 25% of the S7's current price - maybe my expectations were too high on the camera and that's all it has to offer. Or is there some setting i'm missing?
I have tried a second device (about 1.5 year old), same circumstances, same results. Both have the latest Nougat firmware installed, no root or whatsoever. Photos are ok.
Both shots were made with default settings, automatic mode, HDR auto, flash off, 1080p/30fps:
1.) first I wanted to show my buddy with my new phone, what's the job he has to deal with soon (he is a painter)
vimeo.com/268656045
2.) when I saw the results, I made a second video in the kitchen, I would say rather good lightning than poor (although artifical), nevertheless same issue as seen in the first video
vimeo.com/270958764
(One more thing to add, Vimeo encoding did not cause significant degradation, what you see it's almost the same as you watched the original file.)
Why isn't the colour smooth? What causes those "waves"/bands around the somewhat yellowish focus in the middle?
It seems to be a problem with the "gradients". (nor sure if it's a proper definition of the problem, but the shadows have a similar effect on a solid/mono color surface as the light is less and less compared to the center) For me it's like the color banding issue, which AMOLED screens use to have sometimes, as I have read in several forums.
Thanks for any feedback and help in advance!
I get those banding circles if I take a photo with RAW enabled in Pro mode in bright light, probably just a limitation of the sensor under certain conditions
Could it be the colour depth of the sensor?

First of all thanks for the feedback! So you think it's not a malfunction, that's all the phone has to offer in such cases? I was wondering, that I did not read about similar complaints. No one has ever tried to record a video with similar background and similar lightning conditions? Or those who did, they never use to complain in forums?
Either way this result is disappointing.

Hi zeroprobe!
First of all, thank you for your feedback too! I really appreciate it. As far as I can tell, the video shows similar degradation like your pictures between 8bit vs 10bit, but what can be done? What does it mean?
Bump!
Did anyone experience similar issue while recording a video? Is there a solution or it is as it is, this device has basically a cr*p quality in certain circumstances? I wouldn't call it a great camera seeing this, rather disappointing.

Samsung Galaxy A20 - The good and the bad

O.K, the Samsung Galaxy A20 is a budget phone (I bought mine for AU$239) so I do not expect any "flagship" performance but the initial attraction was the Amoled display that has some degree of daylight readability, reasonable camera performance, the relatively big battery capacity for SoC size and the glimmer of hope in rooting this device.
After a little while, some things becomes apparent which I would like to share:
There is no light sensor so screen brightness cannot adapt to ambient light....a strange and disappointing omission
The phone is made in Vietnam not South Korea...just an observation
The heavily embedded bloat from Samsung and Google is chronic in magnitude and its primary purpose is for harvesting personal information and pushing ads
Fingerprint lock works efficiently but the rear sensor is hard to locate
WiFi reception range is poor.
The Android One UI is pleasingly clean but the Settings menus are a bit disorganized
Root can be achieved relatively easily but is "precarious" to say the least.
Show me your good and bad list

It had no light sensor but somehow it uses the cameras to adjust to ambient light.
Update after using for some time.....
I really miss not having a notification LED - a backwards step to delete it for the notched display fad. An edge LED would have been great but that would cost 3c to include.....
Mobile reception is noticeably weaker than my old Moto G 2013 and Xiaomi Redmi Note2 - another backwards step!

I agree. I came from a Nexus 6P and found the notification light very handy. It's not a deal breaker for me though.
Does anyone know if the A20 has an oleophobic layer on the screen?
This might be stupid question but why does my A20 SM-A205G not have NFC there is no options under settings or on status bar to activate it but I see some SM-A205U have it and other 205g have enabled, do I have the chip in phone already? Just need to flash other firmware to use it? Has anyone else had any luck activating NFC?
I've had the phone about a month now and coming from an LG V30 before this I can say that despite all the cons I'm overall happier with this phone over that garbage. Barely.
Pros:
The A20 camera is much better with low light
Apps seem to crash less
I also like the Samsung UI more than I expected
The samsung keyboard is so much better than any other keyboard I've been able to find in the app store
I like how the lock button is on the side instead of the back like on the V30
Cons:
The camera is still pretty grainy even in sunlight
The auto screen brightness sucks balls. I can't even count how many times the screen dimmed & brightened just in the last few mins while I'm sitting in one spot
I also very much notice the lack of ram. It feels really laggy at times, like a 5 second delay when I'm just typing or sometimes I'll tap and it'll register as a hold
I can easily see the downgrade in screen resolution when watching videos
The proximity sensor. I'll be in a call and occasionally my face will mute the call or dial numbers
Or when I had the feature activated to double tap to turn on the screen, it would turn on in my pocket all the time and mess with buttons or sliders. On numerous occasions my phone would be ringing and I'd pull it out to find out my leg was messing with the volume slider. Not once did the LG do that
And finally I should've looked into the ability to root this phone before I got it. I have the A205U sadly and didn't make sure it's even unlockable with all the extensive research I was doing while I was looking to replace my LG

I have the same question.... I've seen through the internet many sites saying the a20 has nfc, and even give instructions for activating it , but i couldn't.... Wether it has or not, I'm not certain at all.

Blurry Photos on Front Camera

Hey guys, Got my phone 2 days back. I received a software update the very moment I signed in and I did.
Later through the day I went on checking the cameras. I was in a medium to low lit room and I could see the front camera was blurry. So I tried taking pictures but they did turn out well. I tried gcam but the viewfinder was still the same blurred with good shots after the photo was clicked.
I went outside to check the camera and I could see the viewfinder preview was sharp as it looks on my op5. I went back to the low lit room and the viewfinder turned blurry again. Also I tried video calling and the receiver told me that my video looked like some low frame rate camera.
I received an update later which reduced the blur effect a little but it's very much noticeable.
Anybody else has this issue?
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to be as detailed as possible.
Also I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue the viewfinder should've been blurred in good light too right?
Also photos when clicked in low-light come out good. The issue is with the viewfinder only.
I'm sceptical of getting a replacement if it's not a hardware issue due to the lockdown delay and all and since it's from OnePlus site I don't get the return option either like Amazon.
Please share your valuable thoughts regarding this and if anyone else's facing the same issue.
Seems like nobody has the issue. So I might rma the device.
Thanks people

I am still trying to understand if this is an hardware problem or software. I wrote on a forum and they told me "sometimes blurry, but its okay with the colours" and another "whatsapp videocalls were always pretty bad, but I faced issue with blurry camera only at night". People answered me like if this is normal for a 1000€ phone...I come from one plus 7t pro and the front camera was better. I don't know what to do, I wait some days to find more discussion about this, if this is an hardware problem I try to replace otherwise I will ask refund...
I'm pretty sure the 7T & both 8s use the same font camera sensor (Sony imx471) so the images should be similar depending on software.

Actually the photos in low light turn out good once you've captured them. They're blurry only in the viewfinder. As such video calls are also blurry since what you see on the viewfinder is what the receiver gets.
To top it all the viewfinder is sharp when it's good lighting out there. The issue is only with medium to low light
Hi, i am facing the exact same problem. I got my phone (OnePlus 8) two days back and I started having second thoughts. I really hope it's a software issue. Spent a lot on this device.
I just bought one plus 8 and I am feeling so regretful as I figured out my front camera blurry, I don't know what should i do
Should I wait for software update?
