I've been an iPod Touch + Nokia flip-phone user for many years, and just last week I finally purchased an unlocked Motorola Moto G LTE (XT1045) to replace them both. So, since I'm new to the Android world, I have come to ask this question:
How long would you recommend I wait before rooting my device? There are some features that would REALLY like (moving entire apps to SD card (I was a bit dismayed to find that when moving all my apps to the SD card, it only saved a very, very small amount of storage space), as well as being able to prioritize memory usage for apps, Titanium backup, underclocking while phone is locked, etc.). I'm viewing this phone more like a very mobile computer than I did my iPod Touch I always carried, and as such I am expecting more of it.
The reason I ask is I am wondering how long it will take for good support to start showing up for custom ROMs and stuff. Since this is my first time rooting a device, I would like there to be a decent amount of documentation, and would also like the majority of the bugs worked out of anything involving rooting for this specific phone.
On a side note, does anyone know of a way to unlock the bootloader without going through Motorola's site? I've read that by going through there to get the unlock code, you are basically registering your phone as "not under warranty." So, if something that is clearly a manufacturing defect (like charging connector becoming loose or something like that) shows up in a month, I'd like to be able to un-root it to send it in.

BUMP.
I got to thinking about it, and since I am actually going to be outside of the country for the next 10 months, so my warranty is pretty much useless anyway. Shipping it back would require removing the battery, which in turn would void the warranty.
So, at this point my only question is how long would you recommend to wait to root my phone in order for there to be good documentation, and good support for custom ROMs and stuff?

I need serious help here
This is my scenario: Day1:
I heard about this flashing custom roms so i thought it would be cool trying it with my phone. So i successfully did flash some roms and had recover many times after bootloop bcuz of nandroid.
But this time its different i try to install xposed installer and was currently using a custom rom. So i got bootlooped again but i wasn't worried cuz i have the powerful nandroid backup . So i restored my stock rom blah3x and it says successful then i reboot my phone . But the logo didnt show up so i tried to go to recovery again AND suddenly it just go back to this useless stock recovery HUHUHU :crying: idont even know why they make this useless ---- errr..
Day 2:
And this day i found this Sp flash tool blah3x . And as what i learned i need a full backup rom and obviously i don't have it and theres no link for it bcuz its very unknown and unsupported device. But luckily i got the scatter file bcuz, before i was using MDK Droid tools to do things that i dont even know how to . So i tried to flash just the recovery . The one i flashed is the TWRP that i've been using for flashing rom and it was stuck in red bar so i unplugged the cable and reboot to recovery but its still the same. And then i was pissed off , so i click the format all + download and i think i saw a text that shows it was success ful( I DID THAT BCUZ I DIDN'T EXPECT IT WILL HAPPEN). After that i cant reboot to recovery and the phone all i have now is this white light when i plug the phone to pc with/without battery. Its hard-bricked right? am i right?
But i think i have some advantage,
-Im still under warranty
-And i formatted everything in my phone as you can see in Day 2 scenario, so that means that they cant know that im rooted right? am i right?
My QUESTION IS WILL THE COMPANY'S WARRANTY SERVICE REPAIR MY PHONE? WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING I HAVE DONE??
Note I'M SCARED IF THEY'LL SUE ME FOR LYING ABOUT IT

Maybe it depends. They might be able to know you did tamper with the phone.

:laugh: Seriously? Worst case scenario they'll void your warranty and ask you to pay for the repair or they will send you back the phone as is.

I don't know anything about this company's policies but in general, if your phone is bricked because you did something wrong and they can prove it, they will probably not repair it under warranty but most likely ask you to pay for the repair or they will send you back the device as is if you don't pay.
Its the same for most OEMs. If something broke under warranty, they will repair at no cost. If it break because you did something that void your warranty, they'll ask you to pay for the repair, if they can prove it (e.g. If the phone can't power on, then they can't prove anything, if the phone does power on and they can see you have flashed stuff, then they'll most likely charge you for the repair.)

as what you said if they cant power on they cant prove anything .. and basically my phone cant power on so they can know right?? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS .. So ill just make excuse to them that I dropped my phone and it cant power on again stuff like that so they will replace some hardware parts right?

• Malfunctions caused by external causes (e.g., radio interference from other equipment, power voltage fluctuations).
• Defects or alleged defects caused by the fact that the Product was used with, or connected to, any product, accessory, software and/or service not manufactured, or supplied by Alcatel or was used otherwise than for its intended use.

If it's dead and you want to make sure it really doesn't boot up you could always format it with a very strong magnet. No physical traces and every chip in your phone will be blank.. But it's also irreversible. But it could also fall under rule number 3..

well i believe that my phone is actually dead and cant boot up except the light turns on when you plug it to the wall ... so will they not find out?? what do you think sir?

Just play dumb.. Might be handy if you Google the most common problems with your model phone. Alcatel isn't the most reliable brand in the world..

Hi Everyone. I've read a lot of posts here and elsewhere on this issue, but have been unable to solve it, and Sony phone support suggested I post a question. So here goes...
I have a Z3 (D6653) on Android 6.0.1. A month out of contract with my telcom (Telstra), I started having trouble pulling down the notification drawer. Originally it was just slow, then only possible from the home screen and within a day altogether impossible.
I reset the device to factory, but this didn't help.
I used the native diagnostic tool to test the touchscreen and it showed a narrow, very uniform unresponsive band at the top of the screen. About 2-3mm. The uniformity of the band, which suggested to me (right or wrong) that it may be a software issue, not a hardware issue.
So I tried to flash a custom ROM, but although I was able to unlock the bootloader, I was unable to access recovery mode. (I've flashed custom ROMs before, but it's not something I've ever found trouble-free.) After about 8 hours trying all the usual methods, and all the unusual ones, I gave up and started looking at recovery apps.
But recovery apps all require root, so I decided to pursue that course. But without recovery, I couldn't root the device the normal way, so I decided to try Kingroot. After a few false starts, it eventually said it had successfully rooted the device, and Root Checker said it had too. But I was still unable to install a custom recovery with an app. Which left me with nowhere to go.
And now Root Checker is saying the device is NOT properly rooted, Kingroot basically spins, and I haven't been able to unroot with SU or anything else I've tried (not many attempts).
And now at least one app (Pokemon Go) won't work because it thinks the device is rooted.
So I'm now using a floating app to pull down the notification drawer, and I've got all the apps that most often give me notifications sitting directly on my home screen, rather than in folders. I know none of this is the end of the world, but it interrupts my workflow and, thus, my overall productivity. Also plays havoc with my OCD!
Sony support said it's no longer covered by warranty because I rooted it, and although they can probably fix it, it'll take up to a month, and will cost somewhere between $50-$250. I could buy a replacement phone for not much more!
Any ideas on where to go from here? Should I just get a local mobile repair shop to replace the touchscreen? Or is my suspicion right and it's more likely to be the OS? And if the OS, how do I get to recovery?

I just about guarantee you that it's a hardware problem, this has happened to me twice on 2 different display panels, through some research this problem happens only on sony phones.
Normally cracking the screen will trigger this problem (Even the smallest of cracks will) but in some cases it will do it on it's own. I think (correct me if I am wrong) sony purposely made this happen possibly to make money on the unfortunate ones who have cracked the screen and caused the digitiser to become slightly unresponsive or not work at all (Thus needed repair and most will go to sony to do so).
I ended up blowing up the phone (Not kidding, I put it in a old microwave and the battery exploded) because it was a pain to run AOSP/CM roms on there and it was gonna cost me quite a bit to fix again so I said fk it and happily destroyed it with a couple of mates (I don't suggest doing this I was just sharing my experience/feelings with this problem {and more}).
I'd suggest selling it (If possible) and getting a new phone, even a phone with the same specs will be better due to sony being... well... sony.
I'm quite happy with my new Moto G4 Plus that runs considerably better than my old Z3 (And the battery lasts longer too ).

In this thread I'm asking less for technical advice but more for legal advice. Basically, my phone is stuck in a bootloop caused by an user-aborted system update. Details see my other thread.
The phone won't start anymore, google's ABH warning appears, then the phone reboots itself.
I bought the phone last week. So far I only did: 1) Register gmail for play store 2) Download and use one app (messenger) 3) Set a lockscreen password and make it request it on boot 4) Play the octopus android easteregg game
That's it. I haven't even made a single call on that phone yet. No root, no adb, no tinkering, nothing. The phone is practically still as new.
A few days ago I noticed a small crack in the glass on the phone. I don't know where that came from. I never dropped the phone at all. (No younger siblings or similar either)
First I called verizon (where I got the phone from), that was before the bootloop happened, about the crack. I have the highest tier phone insurance, paying $7/month just for that. Verizon told me they can replace it, but I'd have to pay a $150 deductible. WTF#1? I have highest tier insurance and this was not my fault, why can't they replace it? But ok. I don't mind the crack that much.
Now, because of the bootloop, I called LG directly. They told me the bootloop thing falls under warranty, however because of the crack the warranty is now void entirely. WTF#2? How can a warranty be void because of a small crack on the back of the phone that I didn't even cause? The cost to just diagnose the phone would be around $20 and the repair would be around $100, plus shipping costs. Maybe more, they couldn't name an exact price.
Is this really how warranty works in the US? Is there really nothing I can do now? I don't even know how to fix this bootloop (for some reason I can't access fastboot) and I can't pay that much money just to fix something that is entirely not my fault. So what are my options?
Or can ASUS still tell if my phone has already been previously rooted? I come from Samsung phone where rooting the phone would permanently trip Knox as if there's some sort of hardware fuse. I'm wondering if something similar happens to ROG Phone as well.

My guess is since the phone pings asus to unlock bootloader that they know on their end that its been tinkered with.
If you have used the official method they have record of your device id. The good news is they're not too hostile towards unlocked devices like some of the other brands - they know most of their customers are on the wild side
Asus releases an official unlock app, so the warning about voiding warranty is more intended toward covering issues you cause yourself. They usually still cover the internal hardware and provide support for the stock firmware. If flashing the phone back to stock fixes the issue, they may even help with that. At the end of the day, it's there so they have the option to deny claims.
