Hello,
I have a Galaxy S6 running the latest 6.0.1 XEF stock ROM (no root) before Nougat.
I have choosen not to update to Nougat for the moment as I prefer to wait for better Nougat releases.
I was quite sure the settings of my S6 were set in order to disable search/install of updates. But yesterday, while connected to my network using Wifi, my S6 has started to download the Nougat updates! But, as I said, I don't want it for the moment. I stopped Wifi, then it stopped downloading the updates. I tried to go to the update settings of the S6 to disable updates but it is not possible now to go the "About device > Software update". And each time I connect to WIFI, it resumes the download of the update .
In the application manager, I found 2 apps related to "Software update": for only 1 of them it is possible to stop it and remove cache and data, which I did. I thought I would have cancelled the download of Nougat update and bring me back the possibility to disable update. But unfortunately, it has no effect. I also tried to wipe cache partition, but the same: it has no effect and each time I connect Wifi, it resumes the download of the update.
So, how I can cancel the download of the update and be able to access to the settings to prevent from downloading/installing it??
Thank you for you help!
There's no need, Nougat is stable now.
If you still doesn't want, let it download the update (because you can't cancel it) then block notifications from both updates apps from the settings.

Really? Latest release for XEF has still the same changelist and I read several complains regarding battery life and lags into the Gallery app for example...

I had very bad battery life on Nougat, i was on UAE firmware. When i bought this second S6 i made a decision to stop using custom roms so i tried to flash another firmware, took the last XEF ( from April) and flashed it 2 weeks ago, my battery improved a lot specially in standby , no issues or whatsoever.
Thanks for your feedback!
phone is full, now what?
Sorry to hijack this thread, but it seems the best fit.
Basically the same question as above: "How do I cancel an OS update download in progress" on my Samsung S6
Reasoning is a little different though. Accidentally I started the update process but during the download my phone ran full.
And as you might know, with a full phone some apps dont work.
Of course Android gives me the option to remove files and apps but immediately the free space is occupied by the running update....
Any ideas?
tia!
So the wave of the Oct. Security Update for the H918 is out. This new version is completely safe to update since this is still ARB 1 (See attached pictures).
Is it strictly security, or are there any UI/UX bugfix or additions?

I got this notification for a system update and I just rooted about a week ago.
Since im rooted can I accept and install the system update. If yes how do I do this in twrp. Will I loose root?

If you accept, the phone will go into a bootloop since the stock recovery has been replaced by twrp. So don't accept the update. Reflashing the ROM would stop the bootloops if you just so happen to accept it.

To me I believe its just strictly security tbh since I haven't noticed anything else. I will see if performance has been improved or not

Actually I did accept it when I first saw the notification then when I realized I was rooted (about 4 years without root) the phone booted in to TWRP and I freaked out ... so I moved the slider to see TWRP was asking to enter some sort of password or key for it to continue. but then I saw the cancel button and I cancened and it took me back to the main TWRP screen where I just rebooted the system without issues.
The only reason I rooted was because OREO battery life was 10 % per hour weather I touched or did not touch the phone. I thought this security patch might have battery optimizations.
But thanks for your replay, I'm going to stay away from this system update since I'm rooted not. I guess I got luck and not bricking my phone.
20G Security Update Changelog

Software versions & updates: LG V20
Android Security Bulletin—October 2018
Have you received it and any changelog? Battery seems much better to me now.
I received it also, no issues so far.
But how do you make any assumptions on battery life in case you just received it today?

Updated this morning. Battery seems the same. But it was good before.
WiFi keeps disconnecting like before on previous versions. On Oreo it works like normal. Do you guys get this on Pie?

Sometimes. I want to rollback to android 8 but I cant.
It's easy to rollback, just need flashtool and xperiFirm that is integranted into flashtool, CE1 (Central Europe) variant is on Oreo, so you can download that version and flash it. You will lose all you data, deleting everything assures that the instalation will be OK

I succeed with germany version of oreo. I found the ftf file from one of czech website and flashtool recognise that. Happy with this firmware now.
These updates are just monthly security, so I don't thing they would mess with battery life or performance of the phone whatsoever.
The actual build of Pie didn't change from the first one in November 2018, just security updates and thats all.
They didn't even bother to fix the sound issue, that is mostly common reported one.
Regarding WiFi problem, mine works without problems from the day 1 on Pie.

What is that sound problem that is reported by users ?
Thank you
It's so strange that the WiFi works fine on some phones and doesn't work at all on the rest. It can't be a hardware issue since the Wifi works fine on Oreo.

But I don't know what's changed? Also on the P20 Pro?

Maybe they are preparing for harmony os dual boot or something?

9.1.0.328 clt-l29c432e5r1p9
Same here
Did notice something saying that feature advisor is running
I received the same thing and I couldn't find any information regarding the update. Was thinking something is not right and not the usual update process we are used to.
Hopefully someone fingers it out.
I also got this push notification for system settings, wasn't a normal update. My device a Huawei nova 3i.
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80680997&postcount=2
Honor 10 also received this system setting update.
Some news? I also received the update but I didn't notice any restart in recovery or changelog. Perhaps they have resolved the excessive consumption of the battery due to the system IU process.
The same with me today mate 20 pro
I noticed this update at the morning. I assumed it's related to daylight saving time. For example Israel moved the clock 1 hour back yesterday night.
updated but no clue.
Got the update too. It's a timezone fix

Everything is fine not any big bug that worth mentioning!
It can lag a bit if you wont make a factory reset afterwards
Came directly from pie 10.0.20.0 everything is fine i think ots safe to install

Is it the same update as few days ago?
11.0.4? If yes ,then I wonder why they stop the OTA just to start it over without changing/fixing anything...
It's like xiaomi devs are a bunch of amateurs who doesn't own this device therefore unable to test their updates and just hope for the best when they release one...
Yes it's the same 11.0.4.0

I'm on Q from the first update - 11.0.2.0 - which is running without major bugs, just a bit worse battery usage and less maximum brightness They don't offer me any update yet.

There's a process for applying the OTA or a fastboot image you can use to upgrade.
I expect you'll get a OTA offer soon anyway. I just missed it last time but got it now. OTA from 10.0.20.0
