[Guide] Carrier Locked /Snapdragon/ S9+ 10 Hours SOT by Hiro - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Guides, News, & Discussion

How to reliably get 10 hours of screen on time or more with the snapdragon s9+.
I do not use the "battery saving modes" under the top swipe menu. If you only apply parts of these settings, you will get worse battery life. I can reliabally get 10 hours with 30% brightness. I have gotten over 13 hours with more conservative settings, btw.

PS: I personally am offering a bounty for modifying the SD card to be internal storage without root. I tried the classic adb commands to no avail.

I've made a couple changes based on your list.

"Amazing battery life", by disabling every feature of the phone. Lol, I've gotten close to 10 hours with all that **** enabled. Give me a break.

A motorola razr will get that kind of battery life too

Yea lets gimp the phone....seriously why did you get the s9 lol. I use all my features i want turned on.. left phone off charger lost 3 % in 9 hours in standby mode. Pretty da$n good if ya ask me

Now why would i buy a expensive phone and turn all that off, i might as well use a flip phone seriously, i have all of it on from that list and i am happy with my AT&T S9 Plus getting over 8 hrs and half SOT with brightness at 95% and display at WQHD, that is nonsense to turn all that off.

Thanks for all the tips and tricks. This is some great info!
I disabled a few things from your list that I won't use, left some others on.
Not sure why everyone is complaining and whining, but thank you!

LOL why would you buy an S9+ just to disable every feature and set it to 720p? Get a grip man

I can understand the desire, but making the SD adoptable storage negates having super fast UFS 2.1 storage. I could understand if we had slow eMMC or the like, but the storage in these phones are some of the fastest you can get, there's a real speed and usability advantage.

Every year it amazes me how many people use every single feature the phone has.... I never hear of anyone using some of these features on a daily but keeping them enabled obviously is the smart thing to do? Genius.... loving this Generation more and more by the day

Turning a bunch of those features off would drive me crazy. Smart stay is worth whatever small amount of battery it uses to keep the screen from constantly turning off while I'm in the middle of something. And it lets me get away with a shorter timeout, which probably saves more battery than Smart stay uses. Reducing screen resolution has, at best, a tiny impact on battery life. We've got the best screen in the business - why cripple it? LED Off? Yeah, why would I want to know when I have an email or text message, or a missed call? Let those people wait!
Block accidental touches uses far less power than having the phone constantly turning the screen on while it's in your pocket or purse. Smart lock? For sure. Who wants convenience when you can get an extra 10 minutes of battery life instead? And Google apps? Really? The savings in battery life, if there's any at all, is probably measured in seconds per day.
And there's no reason not to let the keyboard sleep. It will wake up as soon as you want to type something. And it uses zero battery when you're not actually typing (and damn little even when you are typing). Actually, most of the apps on your phone use negligible battery when they're not actually in use. Go to Settings / Apps and look at actual CPU and battery usage. Most of them will show zero.
A few of these are legitimate if you don't actively use the features, but aside from the network stuff most will have minimal impact on battery life.

AT&T S9 Plus all day at work 4G LTE been at work all day 95% brightness and resolution WQHD all my features are on at 62% battery SOT 3hrs and 46 min Outstanding battery life, so there's no need to turn all those features in the list which is nonsense.

I agree to keep the features on that you use... but the gestures where I pick up my phone and it vibrates or wipe my hand over the screen i never use and Im sure many others dont use either. I run 1440p with LED on and its amazing battery life

So many assumptions here I don't know where to begin, but I'll just say it makes more sense to leave on all the features you're paying $900 for then to spend the $900 and use setting to turn the phone into a mid-range phone from 2015.

Agree with you, if people are not gonna use features and turn everything off, then a Smart phone is not for you buy a flip phone and you be all set , a 950.00 to turn all those features it's totally nonsense.

Green Power vs JuiceDefender

Hello everyone!
I was just wondering between these two apps...
Which one works better for you and if will be great if you can share your configuration!!
Also, does anyone knows is any of these two disable whatsapp and gmail notifications?
Many thanks for sharing!
Cheers!
IMHO
I can answer about Green Power Premium:
It doesn't have such option like disable notifications. He does such thing like disables data connection for amount of time you chose (for me it is 15min) and then enables data connection for amount of time you choose (for me it is 2min)
Now my Galaxy Note works 2 times longer (from 10h to 20h)

WOW! double time!!
thanks for sharing!
I have been trying both, and while both of them seem to deliver a noticeable reduction in power draw (actually in my case a dramatic reduction), of the two I'd have to give my vote to GreenPower (I'm using the full version). The power reduction is at least as good as Juice Defender Ultimate, and the premium version is significantly cheaper.
Both work by turning various features (mainly Wi-fi/3g/BlueTooth) on and off automatically, but as result can cause delays in things like receiving push-mail and that kind of thing. With Juice-Defender I found this to be quite noticeable, but I'd have to say that with Green-Power I haven't really noticed it slowing down messaging or anything else.......
I've used them both - and deleted them both. I'd rather manage power myself.
i am using 2x Battery for me this is the best. simple and clean.
I usually use JuiceDefender but decided to try out Green Power. I really like it but I have a hard time getting my phone to sleep properly on GP.
i use widgetsoid and just enable my connection when i want it (wifi/3g)
i could never find the proper app that did exactly what i wanted- rather just have control.
going that was and using the phone an average amount my battery goes from 100 -> 75 from the time i wake up (7am) to the time i got to bed (12-1 am)
the 2500mah battery is pretty good!
With JuiceDefender I can get my phone to sleep 95%+ of the time but with GreenPower, my cpu is only sleep 40%+. Can anyone give me tips to get my cpu to sleep more to preserve battery?

Just out of interest, what happens when you browse the web and GreenPower has turned off the Data Connection?
Or you're watching a youtube video and it decides its time to turn off data?
Tried both versions and found green power premium to work better for me. (Price was a good point too.)
However the next day I found that if I left my phone for a while (Around 1 1/2 to 2 hours), the display would not turn on and If I called the phone it would not ring. Only way to fix this was to press the power button for 10 seconds to reset the phone.
Uninstalled green power to see if this was the cause and hasn't happened since.
Was wondering if something similar has happened to other people?
I had to go back to JuiceDefender since I couldn't get my phone to go into deep sleep with GreenPower.
Hi, i went for Green Power. I found it simpler to configure, more focused on the job. Juice Defender has to much possible settings and complexity, this makes it a great tool but might also lead to poor efficiency.
I have never used green power before but im on juice defender. I have experienced auto turn off by the note due to a set cpu settings that govern lower clock to cpu at a certain condition. Due to the big display on note i think lower cpu clock wont do it. Because of that the device turned off itself. Upon failure to operate. Hope this solves your problem
I have tried JuiceDefender but ultimately prefer to do everything manually. Some how I always feel the auto manage apps will have everything off precisely when you need it. I use the SwitchPro widget to quickly enable/disable the various radios from my home screen and it works great.
@ Aldragor
I have/had the same problem. In the beginning I thought that my launcher would be the cause for this problem, but after I disabled my Green Power Premium it hasn't happend since now.
Juice defender ultimate, the feature of switching 2g 3g on stock ROM alone was worth the price!
After figuring out how to config GreenPower properly, I went back to it.
I used JuiceDefender and thought it was great.... when it worked. However, I used it mostly as a scheduler with about 15% battery saving which I took as the icing on the cake.
I want all connections on during the day (peak) so I can take skype calls, etc.. When I'm home, I just want to periodically check for mails, etc (so have connection enable every 15min) and when I go to bed I don't want to be disturbed by emails, messages, etc but still want phone/sms on in case there is an emergency. And most of all, I didn't want to have to manually do that every day.
Problem was that it never really stuck to the schedules. This was the ultimate version but it was a crack as they never offered the ultimate on a trial. I wanted to evaluate the ultimate and buy if it did the job. So, it might have been a bad crack which caused the problem, but I guess I'll never know as I don't want to risk wasting the money if the schedule problem persists.
I am a lover of juice, it keeps he juice in and right

Battery Saving tips? Help!?

I have the droid ultra and was wondering how I could get some extra juice out of my phone? Any help would be appreciated!

1. Turn off Battery Saver under Settings/Battery. This is false hope and more of a placebo. It usually kicks on when you are already really low on battery and it usually just down clocks your CPU and can make your phone sluggish.
2. Turn off Automatic Brightness under Settings/Display/Brightness. When the sensor on your phone reads the light around you, it likes to shift the brightness on your phone from really high to really low. This effects your battery. Turn that option off and leave your phone on half to 1/4 max brightness. 1/2 is usually just fine. You will get used to this brightness.
3. Turn off Location Access. This is probably one the biggest battery wasters out there and you don't need it running all the time. It is located under Settings/Location Access. Turn off or uncheck everything here. If a program needs or wants it on, it will request it when you are using that app. Most of the time it is usually for Google Maps. As you can tell, this also turns off GPS.
4. Let your phone sleep, but not too soon/long! Under Settings/Display click on sleep and change it to 1 or 2 minutes(preferred). Nothing shorter, nothing longer. Nothing longer because if you forget to turn off your screen, you don't want it sitting there for 5
minutes wasting away. Nothing shorter because turning it back on after 15 seconds because you were thinking will only cause the screen to demand more power to get it restarted, thus draining battery.
5. Facebook = Battery Killer. I get it, you love Facebook. That is ok, but your battery doesn't. There is hope though! Open the Facebook app and slide your finger from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen. Now go all the way down to "App
Settings" and make these changes. #1 Refresh Interval = Never: This will prevent it from waking up your phone/battery and refreshing automatically when the phone is off. When you launch the app, it does this for you, so why have it do it when you are
working/sleeping? Plus you can always manually do this by pulling down on your News Feed. #2 Turn off Messenger location services. You don't really need this on. it likes to activate your GPS(battery hog) and let people know which city you sent that post/message from. Unless you care that people know you are in Butt****, Ohio, you should have this off.
6. Streaming Music kills battery. Do you have 80gb of songs at home on your computer? Then why do you stream Pandora all day? You having unlimited data is not a good excuse. If you can, put all those songs on your SD card/phone and listen to them using Google Play Music app. Buy a bigger SD card if you have to, they are not that expensive. Or just ask Santa.
7. Turn off vibrate on touch/haptic feedback. Usually located under Settings/Sound. That little motor that tickles your finger tips when you touch the screen actually uses a good amount of power. If you are really looking to get the most out of your battery, turn this off. I leave it on because I could always go for a finger tip tickle.
You don't have to use all of those, you can pick and choose if you like. I do. I hope it helps you out. Let me know.
Fun Fact: The takes more power to show the color blue on your screen than any other color.

Yeah, well, you need location services for Google Maps. It's nothing something discrete for just one application. (Meaning, if you turn off location services globally, it turns it off for everything. If you turn it on, you can go into individual apps and see if you can turn off location.) However, you can go into Google Now, menu on the bottom right, settings, Privacy & accounts, Google location settings, and turn off location reporting and location history - unless you really want that in Google Now.

1 - Agreed.
2 - This is mostly preference and will not that huge of effect on your battery. Having the display on the brightest setting will always drain more than the lowest setting, but the auto-brightness changing does not hurt the battery, it's when it sets the brightness high that it does. I have auto-brightness set and I'm doing pretty good.
3 - Location services are only accessed and turned on when requested. For example, when you open maps, or have geotagging enabled on the camera. Just leaving it enabled in general will not be that big a deal.
4 - Mostly preference, but setting it too long can have more detrimental effects than just battery usage. For example: forgetting to lock the phone and shoving it in your pocket while the display is still on can result in apps opening or calls being made.
5 - While you're at it, just quit facebook altogether But seriously, the more "social" apps you have running, the more you have apps waking up the phone and hitting data in the background. Instant messaging can cause battery drain as well. As for me and facebook, I do not have an account at all, so I don't use it, and can't really say if it really is a drain on its own.
6 - Agreed. Either put music on your phone or use the caching available in various services like Spotify. I'm a Spotify premium subscriber and it's totally worth it.
7 - This will have a negligible impact on your battery.
I'll add this: If you're into figuring out what's causing battery drain, install an app that monitors wakelocks. I use Wakelock Detector. Wakelocks are going to be your idle time battery killers and apps that abuse them will cause excessive drain. I'm sitting at 8% awake right now and my battery easily lasts the entire day with around half battery remaining on my Mini. You can find apps to blame for battery drain with an app like this easier than an app that just monitors battery usage.

Restrict all background data when screen is locked

Hi,
I come from sony xperia z3 compact, which had a really cool feature, stamina mode, and what i especially liked about it, is that when it was activated and you locked your phone (screen lock) - it restricted ALL background data, no exceptions. Only when you lighted the screen, it would activate the data. Does anyone know, how can i achieve the same feature with the Samsung S7. Basically all i want is that if i lock my screen, all the background data is truly disabled?
Samsung's equivalent of stamina mode would be the "Power Saving" option, of which there is two tiers("Mid"and "Max"). Background data is restricted by default in both modes, although I think the "Mid" tier still allows it periodically.
Yeah i saw them, thanks for the input, although the MAX setting makes the phone lose its features. I will try the MID setting (i disabled the limiting of cpu and some other stuff, because i want it to function normally when i use it). Maybe theres an app, that will make it work just like i want it. Because the s7 battery should last longer - with sony, wifi off and background data restricted, i sometimes got like 4 days without charging. I am not a 24/7 nose in the screen type of a guy anyways, i mostly call and when neccessary look stuff up on google and read my mails. Would be nice to extend this S7 battery to around 3 days or so with such usage.

You can add *some* apps for use in MAX mode, most notably WhatsApp. Maybe use Tasker to toggle data when the screen turns off?(Would need root though). But yeah, there's only so much you can do for a big AMOLED paired to a power hungry SoC I've never known more than a day and a half's usage though. Perhaps other people have better suggestions.
so far its been 6,5h since last charge, and its on 91% - with the mid power saver mode, cpu limiter disabled, screen res on FHD, screen brightness about 40-45%, wifi off, and gps on high accurancy - it looks somewhat promising. I'll see how long it will last on that charge and proceed from there.

I use greenify. You don't have to be rooted to use it and there is a setting that puts apps you select to sleep and turn screen off (that might be a root feature tho, I'm not sure, I don't use it, I just have it set to force stop battery draining apps).

3rd party power management apps tend to screw things up by creating conflicts. You may find it better to let Android do it without using any other apps except to shutdown apps that are known offenders.
On my load it's Bixby (except Bixby Vision and Bixby Vision Framework) all cloud apps, Samsung Push, Gmail, Google backup Transport and Backup Transport Framework.
All I'm using is PD MDM and Settings changes on my 10+ running on Pie. You will need to -play- with it to optimize it. Most guides and power management apps just drop the ball.
Monitor it. The usage you see is AOD running. After I turned off the screen Android powered all the running Apps down. No trivmcks; in Stand By Apps you can see all are in the Active state, all the time, always but they power down when not in use. So much for buckets... using Samsung Device Manager adaptive power management will toggle those buckets to various states and cause more battery drain eventually.
Use Galaxy Labs>Battery Tracker
It's possible the newer versions of Samsung Device Manager run fine but test by monitoring and always be wary of all 3red party power management apps!
Have you looked into Bixby Routines or an app like Tasker where you can create rules? I can't say this will work (I don't use these apps), but if you haven't looked into using rule setting apps, that may be a solution for you.
still someone mentioned the note 20 ultra may not be sleeping the phones cores that is why battery life is so out of whack. i just wanted an app that when i tape it it will turn off the phone and sleep the cores instantly. someone mentioned it is better then waiting for the time it takes to let the phone do it. this will help me find out if the cores sleep or not buy using the app to see if it will give me better battery life. really no harm will be done. the phone sleeps cores anyway. but if a bug is keeping them awake i want to catch it and report it. so it be nice if i can find an app to shut off screen and sleep the cores as well and it will save my power button from wear
All I would like is an icon on my home screen that I could tap to turn the screen off. I feel I’m wearing out the power button the amount of times I use it to turn screen off. Not found any other way to do it

Oh. Why didn't you say so?
Don't think Double Tap* works on 10....

*Double Tap may work on 10; it has a 2x tap on home button off option. No ads, no data usage, very low resource/battery usage. This is one of three screen off/no button options I have enabled.

Mine does but no idea how yours is configured.
The app simple turns off the screen same as hitting the power button.
Apps like Greenify tend to make a mess out of unrooted phones.

To what end? I have about 60 apks blocked, no sync running for Gmail, Calendar, etc, no cloud apps, no trash message apps, no FB, Playstore is blocked unless I unblock it and no 3rd party power management*.
My OS "sleeps" within a minute or so of turning the screen off.
Still a lot of stuff running though plus I'm using AOD.
It uses a little under 1% of battery per hour and better with no AOD.
Reboots generally don't fix power issues at all.
*all 3rd party power management apps including Samsung's Device Manager (disabled) cause more problems than they solve and many times cause excessive power consumption as well. All my app buckets show as active in Developer Options.

i bet, but some have said it is not sleeping cores that may be the same as os sleeping. and why wait a min when you can have an app do it when you tap it. i just want to test if forcing the os/phone into sleep will make a difference and they got apps that can turn off screen and force sleep i just can not find them. i found one in 2015 and lost it forever

I use Nap Time by Francisco Franco the kernel developer for rooted devices from a couple years ago. It will put the phone into a deep doze, which android already has. You will need to do a couple adb commands to get it working on non rooted phones, it's one of the first apps I install on a new phone. The phone can sit 10 hours over night and drop between 3-5%, you can have it turn bluetooth, wifi and data off while in a doze. Here's what Franco says about his app.
This is the real battery saver. No placebo and dumb marketing shenanigans!
Naptime lowers your device's power consumption while the display is off by empowering Android's built-in doze power saving functionality. Faster idle means less power being consumed unecessarily. By default doze can take a while to kick in so Naptime just speeds-up that process automagically for you.
It can also automatically disable W-iFi, mobile data, location & bluetooth as soon as doze kicks in.
Experimental features such as automatic Android Battery Saver, Aggressive Doze timings, Aggressive Doze scheduling times and location detection.
Now you have profiles so you can load them up on demand based on your usage and accessible from Quick Tiles.
Most features work if you're not rooted, but to have the full experience you'll have to root your device.

You can't double tap with that one; set one or more of the slides to turn off the screen. I use that as to kill the screen, navigate and more.
Double Tap is the one that does just that.

It turns off the screen. There's always system apks running in the background unless you power off the phone. You can limit what runs to some extent.
If your getting around 1% per hour battery drain when the screen is off I call it done.

Question Battery saving tip

Here's a tip to save battery while still preserving the most important functions of your S22.
Enable "Developer Options" and turn on the "Sensors Off" quick set toggle in the "Quick Set Developers Tiles" area.
This will give you a new "Sensors Off" quick toggle to enable or disable all the Sensors on the phone, including the camera and mic. I've found this saves quite a bit of battery while not affecting most everyday uses. Additionally, overnight, my S22 only used about 3% of battery in 6 hours of idle time.
The rest of your phone will continue to function like normal including the mobile network and Wi-Fi. This also comes in handy if you want a more private experience. To turn the sensors back on all it takes is a tap of the Sensors Off button in the notification shade.
Thanks will give it a go. Right now I'm losing about 6 to 7% overnight

So one needs to turn it back on whenever they want to make a call or use the camera and leave it off all the other times?
Just realized lift to wake doesn't work if you have sensors off.
Disabling the sensors I've noticed that turn on the screen by pushing the power button is slower. Can you please confirm this?
Any way to set this on automatically when you go to sleep and off again when you wake up via Bixby Routines?

Just in case you are not aware, this Sensors Off quick settings developer tile is not unique to Samsung. It’s most likely available on all Android 11 & 12 devices. I have it available as an option in LOS 18.1

Same here. Most fun is my Huawei Mate 20x (my work phone) is using between 0-1% over night, around 7-8 hours
I checked last night, and my S22 Ultra used 3-4% battery in 6-7hrs overnight. That's without turning off sensors, and with all the battery 'optimisations' disabled. I use AOD, but have it on a timer so it's not running overnight.
I don't know why others are getting such poor battery life, it's very odd.
I'm losing around 1% per hour overnight, AOD off and with mobile data
Thanks for the tip
