Universal software archeology - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hello mighty XDA nation.
Out of a pure nostalgy, I have bought HTC Universal, as new, from Ebay. It has stock WM 5 rom without any modifications. I wanted to unlock it, flash it etc...
But I have found out, that the most of the links to the necessary tools, roms etc are dead. I did some software archeology with little success.
Yes, I have searched this forum, yes, I have searched the general wiki about Universal.
Do you have somewhere still the necessary software to unlock, update, flash etc the eternal Universal?
I am not even sure someone will read this, but if yes, please please send me that software.
Thanks a lot!

Hey, I read this in 2020, what exactly do you need?

[REF][POLL]For all New and Existing users, Please Read :General Guide to Htc Elf(in)

I have been reading around the forums. As always when a device gets popular, alot of stuff for it surfaces and it becomes a little cluttered. I wanted to create one thread with general information regarding flashing and the many different versions of the Elf(in), inorder to minimize frustration and make it easy for all ELF(in) users. Please, input would be wonderful. I will post what I know, and links and information in the first post.
1) Versions of the Elf(in):
The Elf is the GSM version of the touch. For the CDMA2000 version of the touch please visit the VOGUE Forum. There are currently two variations.
-The first and original is the ROM128/RAM64 version or the Elf/Touch or the P3450
-The second or "enhanced" is the ROM256/RAM128 verison or Elfin/Touch XL or the P3452
FYI Code names are actually not an indication of the model at all. Code names will only tell you the manufacturing cycle/revision or regional information.
Currently there is the:
Elf010xx
Elf020xx
Elf030xx
200 and 300 seem to be coming from Europe mostly.
NOTElease correct me if I am wrong.
The next sections will cover basic operations that can be done to the phone. Visit http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FAQ, for descriptions of what the terms I use mean.
2) SIM Unlocking Phone
In order to use the phone universally across different carriers it must be SIM unlocked. This is different from CID unlocking which is what allows you to flash the phone with different ROMS. SIM unlocking was greatfully provided by rishi, and can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328221.
The instructions are easy to follow and can be done in minutes without any problems across all versions of the Elf(in).
3) CID Unlocking
This is necessary to flash an unsigned or no-vendor ROM to your phone, a.k.a cooked ROMS. Some cooked ROMS provide their own CID unlocking and I recommend you use those. Otherwise there is a general CID unlocking greatfully provided by POF here at this link:
For both Elf and Elfin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155
Note: For the elfin, you should place Cert and EnabeRapi files on your phone. Run the cabs. Install them and you should cancel on step 3 !!!of the process inorder for it to work.
Update: Just for Elfin. DJVW has made another USPL,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366875
4) Flashing ROMS
Flashing is a generally easy and painless process thanks to the hardworking developers here at XDA_Developers. There are many different cooked ROMS available and of course official ROMS.
Information about ROMS:
Now a full ROM code has SPL, IPL, EXT_ROM & RADIO and the actual ROM Code itself. These components can be installed in one package or seperatley.
For new users ROMS come in three flavours:
a)Original, non-cooked ROMS straight from the manufacturer. These ROMS are fully packed and contain all necessary parts to function. Comes with you phone and is generally more restricted then custom ROMS.
b)Vanilla which is a clean basic and nearly empty ROM. These ROMS tend not to include most of the above mentioned components, but some do.
c) customised ROMs by users who use a "Kitchen". They provide you with the IPL, SPL, Radio(usually standard across device), and Ext_Rom.
currently there are two popular ones in this forum for the Elf(in), WM 6.1 (not sure which build):
-Elves 5.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364901
- ShadowS 2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363637
Currently a WM 6.1 is being developed for the Elf(in), but a version has already been leaked and many developers here have Roms based off of this.
For ORIGINAL OEM ROMS please visit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1676118#post1676118
Tips for Flashing:
1) Remove Sim Card and Memory Card inorder to avoid mishaps and possible interruptions to the flashing process or damage to the cards.
2) Follow step by step instructions. Although most flashing is standard across WM phones some different things have to be done for different ROMS and phones.
3) Make a back up of your original ROM, using one of the many utilities provided around. I will post up links to some of those soon.
4) Make up a back up of all your contents, and contacts because a flash erases everything stored to the phone's ROM memory.
5) Make sure nothing distrubs the flash process and it is being done from a computer with an uninterruptable power supply, so you do not damage or brick your phone.
Please tell me any thing else to add, correct my mistakes, as well as provide me links to ROMs here and from other sites.
UPDATES:
This section has officially been moved to the Wiki, but this thread is still open for questions. Please ask any general questions you have as I am compiling an FAQ. Remember its just like your teacher says in school, "There is no stupid questions. Ask because some one else might have the same question". That crap doesn't fly here though. Use the search function first, then ask away!
Thanks!
although i already know what im doing. this thread is a great post and highly recommend it to be stickied.
Yup sticky this please so all the new guys who don't know what to do can read this manual!!
Great work Rafiki6
gr. bram
thanks please post suggestions, comments and links to roms and rom sites or pm me. if this could be stickied that would be great but I think moderator has to do so right? btw i am posting from me elfin pcm keyboard rocks!
maybe you should update the cid unlocking part to highlight the need to cancel on step three if you have an elfin
saves confusion once they get to the thread itself
Rory
Very clear, please Mod make it sticky...
Please any Mods, if you see this thread as useful, sticky it,
1) to help new people to the phone like I was about a week ago
2) inorder for me to not search for it every time I want to update. I know I made a subscription to the thread, but it would nice to just come on and find it.

Thank you for your post which I honestly believe is very useful to many people.
I am just not sure if the P3452 is Elf0101 because the label on my device (under the battery) indicate Elf0100 - P3452.
May be some other members can confirm that as well.
Best regards.

Stange, cos my says: ELF010050
Yep, I already found out that the number "Elf0xxx" is a production phase number or a regional number, and has nothing to do with the version of the phone. I have the Touch XL and I am in NA, and I have an Elf101. Someone else may have the Touch XL in another part of the world with another number. So these numbers don't indicate anything.
PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY...It will solve alot of questions and save people alot of headaches!!!
thanxs gr8 work read carefully
I just wanted to update people that I have put the information in the first post in the HTC Elf Wiki. If any user has questions start referring them to the Wiki as it can answer most questions.

Hi,
I've got a HTC Tytn 2 bought in the netherlands and it's shipped rom version 1.56.404.6 and radio version 1.27.1.32
I've searched and tried 3 different roms:
Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_Hybrid_1.64.08.21__RTM_
Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06_CubeV2_
NoThrills_WM61_NLD_V3.exe
They all give error [262]
I've disabled the windows firewall.
Did a clean XP install and activesync 4.5
None works.
Anyone can point me in the right direction? as i'm new here.
ps. what mean these terms?

How is it blurry? There's a huge link with nice big red letters in that sticky that even a pile of freshly shaven wool covered in alfredo sauce would know addresses your question:
ROM Upgrading Wiki (top three links below) <--- Want a new ROM? Don't know what a ROM is? Start here with this 6 step guide.
I can only assume that by blurry you mean you read his response without your glasses and therefore the text wasn't in focus. Otherwise, I have to worry about wool being sentient and taking over the world.

I hate to say this but I never had to ask how to flash a ROM to my TytnII (AT&T Tilt). Every question on flashing ROMs has been answered time and time again. It doesn't matter what phone (Pocket PC, Smart phone, or other), you need to unlock it before you can change the OS, built-in OEM software, or the entire ROM on the device. You will only be able to update the device with the manufacturer's or cellphone comany's software updates if you do not unlock the phone.
As for updating to WM6.1, there is no update method that I know of. You will have to flash an entire 6.1 ROM to your phone. If your cell phone company releases an "update" to 6.1, it will most likely be a complete ROM and not an update like they might say.
Due to European law, most all phones are unlocked for use on different networks. That does not mean you can just flash any ROM to your phone, it still has to be software unlocked.
HINT: look up "HardSPL" or use the XDA-Wiki link at the top of your screen.

How to RMA a phone with a cooked ROM?

Hey
My Touch Pro seems to have a fault so I need to RMA it, probably straight to HTC (suspect I'll have difficulties with the shop I bought it from) so I figure I need to flash it back to a stock HTC ROM. One problem is I bought it here in Spain so it had a Spanish ROM before but I don't see one available on the wiki.
So I have a few of questions:
1. Is there any legit way I might have flashed my TP to a WWE ROM that HTC wouldn't disapprove of?
2. Are the ROMS here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs the same as regular cooked ROMs in terms of how you go about installing them?
3. Can I remove HardSPL? Do I need to?
Any help gratefully received thanks
Oh also... Can anyone recommend a very plain ROM for Touch Pro? I don't know how to install the plain WM6 ROMS on the wiki so I'd like to test with something as close to a stock ROM as possible just to try to rule out the possibility my fault is actually a ROM issue
(I get lockups when playing audio *and* clicking around between apps. The phone is stable when there's no audio running, and if audio is running and I'm not doing anything else it's also stable, it seems to be the combination that's a problem)
No one?
Can't you download one of the official ROMs from HTC directly? If you're going to be sending it to them, as long as there's an official ROM on it, it shouldn't matter.
I didn't realise they provided them actually. But there don't seem to be any on their site for the TP.
You can use one from the Wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs (your link from first post )
Use one thats WWE and HTC (and read the thread to the rom )
good luck!

Sorry to hear that you are having problems; however, you might not find help here since your device is not an HTC windows mobile device and there might not be many people familiar with your device. You might be better off returning it to the vendor for warranty repair or replacement.
You won't be able to upgrade to WM 6.1 as your device is not supported in this forum and if you flashed a WM 6.1 ROM for another device to yours you would likely brick your phone. There might not even be anyone here in this forum who could even tell you how to unlock your phone or even enter into bootloader. Contact the manufacturer of your device to see if they have official upgrades available.
Sorry that this might not be much help but most people here are only familiar with HTC Windows Mobile devices and other HTC made devices. I researched your device and it does not seem to be made by HTC. Good Luck
It seems that you have a settings problem. I would check with the carrier or the manufacturer.
As far as WM 6.1, you'll probably have to wait until either Spice releases an official update or until someone is able to port it. So far, hotrod101 is correct, I have searched a while and there doesn't seem to be much information regarding your phone (let alone development on it).
Good luck!
Thanx guys, for ur valuable time and help.

[Q] Help with the HTC Arrive - The Tangled Path To Custom ROMs

Hey all, I'm new here, but I've been lurking for a few days in all boards relating to WP7.8, etc.
I really do hesitate when I make this thread, because I know a lot of other people have already asked how to do this,
HOWEVER! I can't seem to pull together all of the information I need- the trail seems to go cold after a while,
I have an HTC Arrive (Gold C) on Sprint, With Mango & SPL 4.3
What I am trying to do is get to a point where I can install a 7.8 custom ROM, or simply, I'm trying to get HSPL (which, if I'm correct, requires me to downgrade to NoDo?)
After reading, it looks like the solution to my problem is to use Ansar's NoDo RUU for the Arrive, then, use the Dark Forces Team HSPL Loader to load HSPL onto my Arrive, and then finally, install a ROM like leadpoizon's Custom 7.8 ROM.
I'm pretty tech savvy, but as far as mobile devices go, the hardest thing I've ever had to do was jailbreak a few iPods, and install CFWs on PSPs.
I will openly admit, just putting this information together has been a confusing painus in the anus for me.
My problem is thus - I haven't been able to do any of this because Ansar's NoDo RUU (and, as it would seem, the rest of his RapidShare files) are all down because his bandwidth on RS ran out.
Does anybody have a copy of the NoDo RUU for the Arrive that they'd be willing to upload?
I'd be suuuper appreciative...
Thanks for your time and patience with my utter-noobliness.
I'll be sure to make a proper introductory post later, but I've got work and I'm out of time.

Also, you must install RSPL, then HSPL, then the custom ROM. I am using the LEAD rom and its working great!

Thanks so much, for the welcome and for your help!
That's exactly what I've been looking for, I never checked out that link because the thread was titled with Gold, not Arrive, GoldC, etc...
I hope this thread helps someone like me out!
EDIT:
Where does the RUU installer place all of the files? o.o
Nevermind, got it! Everything works great on leadpoizon's ROM, aside from the HTC Hub tile, which I didn't care for to start with.
Thanks again.

HTC Arrive
I, too, am having the same problem as the original poster. Except now, the link to the thread we are being sent to is now not working. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does this process also work for the HTC Pro7 T7576? This is the GSM version of the device where the Arrive is the CDMA one.
