Hi guys,
I'm a little new to posting on XDA itself, so I'm not quite sure if I'm in the right section, as I don't have my 10 posts yet. So apologies in advance. Move me where you need to.
Alrighty. I'm running 4.1.1 (stock firmware) and I've been getting notifications to update OTA since about a month ago. However, when I try to update, it stops in the middle of the update, restarts the phone, and gives me an error 402. Not quite sure what that means, though an old Verizon forums posts pointed to a corrupt file in the phone's software itself, preventing the update from happening. Aside from that, the phone's been a mite glitchy with home screen transitions, and it's eating up a bunch of my battery life (not going into deep sleep; overheating) when it hasn't done so in the past.
I don't want to give my phone back to Verizon and get a like-new one back, but that seems like it has been the only option I've been given. I've factory reset, cleared cache through recovery, and still no luck. The error 402 keeps happening when updating.
So my question lies here - What should I do? How can I fix this error? How can I update my phone? Or better yet, is there a ROM of the original ICS software (Day one of GS3 release on Verizon) that I can flash through Odin? Then I'd just log in with Google, and let the phone update for about three hours until I'm on current software, and it really wouldn't be susceptible to software corruption if I just let it update all the way through.
Anyone with a similar problem, or does anyone know what I should do?
Thanks, and hope you can help me with this.

Maybe just root(; lol and flash clean Rom stock 4.1.2
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I'd really like to avoid rooting at all costs. This phone's been great for me when it's unrooted, unlike my Droid2 which needed Liberty.
But other than that, any options that don't involve rooting?

Not unless you can remove the update and try again. Verizon soft bricked you. Don't know if you can remove the update file from memory and try to download again without root. Get a file explorer and look for the file. Not sure of name as I have only taken one OTA over all the years and it worked. If want to Odin the full MB1 update image is on SamMobile. If Odin that don't have to worry about OTA and will have same thing.

Which is kind of what I'm asking. Is there a way to re-flash the software completely through Odin? Or just flash the 4.1.2 through Odin? I haven't really been able to find the image online, though. I'd be happy with any software version as long as it deleted and overwrote my current system files with fresh, non-corrupted ones so I could start over. Since backing up files isn't a problem, or even a concern since I could really care less about keeping my files intact at this point, what can I do?

I was editing when you responded. The Full OTA Odin Image is on SamMobile. Just Odin that and you are done.

Actually I have it here. Don't know which one is faster. Forgot I uploaded it to my server.

Hi all.
My note (GT-N8000 16GB version) stuck in boot loop and i can't access recovery mode, only download mode available. I'm doing some research regarding this and found that maybe the solution is by installing PIT file. I found pit file for my device in here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41158546#post41158546
I know that installing wrong PIT file will bricked my device for real. So before I'm doing some flashing I want to ask some question here for confirmation:
1. Did the Russian pit file on above link work to all GT-N8000 16GB in every region? my region is XSE
2. How to install the PIT file? I read somewhere that I need to load it along with stock 4.0.4 ROM from my region and then tick repartition check box. Is that the correct way?
Please help. I'm noob here. I really need some guidance. thanks
I am having the same issue. Why will a PIT file will stop the bootloop?
My Tablet charges and charges while it remains in a loop between srarting and recovery....back and forth. It never boots to Andriod and never enters recovery. Like you I can use the start and volume up key to enter download mode but it does not download anything through Odin or Flasher. Any help will be a ggodsend.
Thanks Anybody.......I have be working on it for a month. I am out of ideas.

ON: Galaxy S3 4.4.2 Verizon(d2vzw) -->OK, I know you all may think I didn't read the other debrick threads, your wrong. I made this new thread because i HAVE tried endlessy every method of debrick on this forum and the internet, and no success. I was messing around with safestrap and decided to try and flash a rom called flashingdroid: for some reason. So i did as usual, boot into recovery(safestrap 3.75) and wipe current os and flash the new one. So i wiped my stock rom(after making a backup) and installed/flashed the new one(flashingdroid) and after seemingly a successful flash, i pressed reboot. Then it went downhill. One second after i pressed reboot, the screen flashed quickly, then shutoff, for good. I couldn't boot it or get into recovery or odin or ANYTHING. I tried the microsd method of debricking with minimal success. It will only give me one vibration, then black scree with that method. Nothing else has worked. I know this was a noob mistake somehow, but does anyone know any special tricks or something? Will a good jig maybe work? I have doubt verizon or samsung will accept it back(it was well rooted!). Please anything/anybody help! I really don't want to buy a new phone or jtag it. Thanks!:crying:
You may have read the debrick threads, but what you should have done from the beginning was read and pay attention to which forum you were in. You flashed a ROM for the International version of the S3 onto your Verizon S3. You almost certainly turned your phone into a shiny paper weight. JTAG may be your only hope. If you don't have one, check out mobiletechvideos.com. I'm not familiar enough with safestrap to know if that may have actually saved you since it is not a traditional recovery and I don't know if it touches all the partitions. In the future, research, research, and research, and pay very close attention to exactly what you are flashing onto your phone. For the Verizon S3, you should only flash ROMs from this sub-forum. And when using safestrap, you are restricted to only flashing ROMs with the same build number as what your phone is currently on in a stock condition.
Ok...Thanks

Confused About What's Possible for Modding a Stock Verizon S3
Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2 stock. I recently rooted my phone, but I realize I am very limited as to any mods I can make due to the locked bootloader. Am I able to modify my OS in some way at all (Safestrap) to make my phone run better, or am I just too late in going about this? I've read so much on this subject, but the more I read, it seems the more confused I get. I want to be careful not to brick my phone and would love to see some precise directions on what I could do. Thanks a million for any help at all!

It's hard to compare this forum with the others. I believe the people here are the most knowledgeable and, like you, very helpful. Funny enough, or not, I posed a related question on another site (initials AC), and it took over 150 views and a week later before anybody offered a reply. Anyway, I can see there is lots of information on this forum about xposed, so now I'll go and learn as much as I can about it. Thanks again for your help!
Btw, here's a link for others like me who are clueless about xposed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299428

And yes I agree some are a lot more helpful than others. The guys and gals still lurking around the VZW S3 forums have been here since the beginning for this phone and even though mine is no longer active I still use it daily, mostly for games but will probably never give it up. It was my first true (I'm comparing it to the HTC thunderbolt) android phone

I seem to have gotten into big trouble - I hope there's a solution. I learned all about Xposed and installed it along with about a dozen modules. Everything was working great, except the torch/flashlight... [I wanted that! ] so, I saw a download for a module on this forum to fix the flashlight... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-flashlight-fixer-fix-devices-t2867267 . Well, since doing that, I think I realized that I should have left the flashlight alone! When I tried to reboot after adding the module to xposed, I ended up in what i believe is a boot loop. The Samsung screen comes on, and then it gets stuck on the red Verizon screen. I never dreamed that a module installation could cause this; and I guess I figured if it ever happened I could get into recovery mode and restore everthing. Btw, I had done a complete backup of my phone using Titanium on my sd card.
So, here's what I can/can't do now. I can push "down-volume-button" + home + power to get to screen where you can download a cusom OS - then pushing volume-up-button goes to screen that says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!! (Nothing seems to happen from here.) - - - I cannot enter recovery mode by pressing "volume-up" + home + power keys. When I do that I get the big yellow triangle with message - System software not authorized...go to nearest Verizon store. hmmmm.... So, am I hard bricked or soft bricked? Do I have a way out? Thanks very much for any help with this!

Instead of odin, you could try using samasung kies 3 and use its emergencey firmware recovery tool which dl's and intalls the correct, latest firmware on your device.
What you do:
Install kies 3 on your computer.
Boot to odin mode on your phone.
Click on tools in kies.
Select emergency firmware recovery option.

Shapes Blue & Root Wizard,
Thanks much for your replies. Is it possible for me, having had 4.4.3 on phone, to go to 4.3 instead of 4.4.2? Seems some people think that's an advantage, but I'm not sure. If I did do that, could I still run xposed?
Btw, RW, I tried using your idea, but when I was attempting to do the emergency Firmware Recovery, it asked for a computer code...??? So, that method doesn't seem to be a good route for me, but thanks for the tip!
You guys don't know how happy I am to have you come to the rescue! I've been using an old iPhone 4 for calls, etc.... during the day which I don't like at all! I'll be real glad to get back to AndroidLand. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Can you get into recovery?
I was able to open it once I downloaded docs by google. It's been so long since I used it though. I can't recall off hand how to use it to be honest
Sent from my Nexus 5
I have tried everything!
I guess the problem was that i flashed CF-auto root for my 5.1.1. Installed XtreStoLite and while charging, the phone went to Samsung logo and it won't turn off.
I have been reading on the web for almost a day now. Anyone that have a fix for this one?
Bump. HELP PLEASE!

I have tried that many times. It gives me error when i use Kies or Smart Switch. When flashing a stock firmware via Odin, it goes through but the boot loop doesn't dissapear.
Use the NAND erase all function in ODIN, it wipes your phone clean, then flashes the firmware. If you still get the bootloop make sure you have the correcr firmware

I have also tried that with 2 different firmwares. The one from SamMobile and the other from here. Still doesn't fix the boot loop.
I seriously can't fix it. Any ideas to try something else?
I have now tried 2 days in row, from morning to evening. HEEEEEEEEEEELP!

if you can find your reciept, you can get it replaced. other than that, you can go to places near you which repair phones. but they can be a bit untrustable sometimes. ive tried everything but nothing worked. furthest ive gotten is that if i take out my sim trey and suck air out of the sim hole in the phone, the phone boots up.
in your case, you flashed something. i didnt do anything to my phone which caused this. try downloading samfirm from xda . and odin 3.10.7. samfirm will give you the stock firmware for your specific phone. with the csc, bl, ap, and cp.

SamFirm is a great tool. Thank you for it.
But the firmware doesn't help me - even tho it's a stock firmware. I still get the bootloop.
I have the reciept, but that reciept it's going to help me since i've tripped knox (KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 1 (ox0500).

You should try anyway. Most retailers don't know what the Knox flag is or what it means. Worst case, you get a retailer who actually knows and they say 'no'. No harm in trying.

Hi,
Have you solved your problem
I have exactly the same problem. I think I have tried all the fix proposed out there but still no luck
Hello,
So I have an international A51 model and have had it for over a year. Recently, it froze while using the browser and now continually bootloops. When I'm able to enter the OS, it freezes up again. I've tried clearing the cache, doing a factory reset, and even tried to flash the original firmware via ODIN. When I'm able to boot in now, it takes me to set up and tells me there was an unauthorized factory reset attempt. Usually freezes up shortly thereafter.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Did you succeed in flashing firmware using Odin?

First time I tried to change CSC from country of origin to my own. It said success but phone was still bootlooping. Second time I used the original firmware and CSC and had the same result
It's hard bricked if you cannot do anything even after flashing official firmware.

Is there anything Samsung can do or am I just out of luck entirely?
Interesting thread, seems like hardware problem(the EMMC internal storage chip is failing.)
Do you still have warranty?

Samsung can but I think you would have to pay if you don't have warranty which is not even a guarantee since warranty doesn't cover user modifications.
Take it to some unofficial store and you may end up paying less.
So Samsung's policy here is a 2 year warranty for Australian models, 1 year for international warranty. My model is from the UAE and so my warranty has ended. They've told me they will try to fix it but can take between 1 - 6 days up to 6 weeks depending on the issue. I'll follow that up.
If they're able to fix it I'll update this thread with the issue as to maybe help someone else. Thanks for your contributions.
