[HELP] Phone boots up only when cold ?!?!

Hi people,
I have a question, I've been reading these forums a lot but now I have a problem that I don't really understand:
My HTC Trinity that has served me well does not want to boot at normal temeratures 21C - 70F. The akward thing is that if I put it in the freezer for 10 mins, it starts working , doesn't get hot. As it reaches 20+C it freezez or doesn't want to wake up from sleep anymore.
Any ideas as to why this happens it's clearly a hardware fail but what part of it ?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's the battery......did you tried it with other batteries....?

It maybe that you have a poor connection within the phone being affected by thermal expansion. Might also be moisture condensation in your phone (made worse if repeatedly placed in and out of a freezer) that requires drying out.

I'm guessing it's not the battery as when I put it in the freezer I take the battery out. Also, while the phone is off the battery charges normally, without heating up or anything.
The theory of a faulty contact makes more sense but then which one ? I do now have a star shaped screw driver with me (I'm travelling for the moment) but I'll try and open the phone once I get back to a more tinkering friendly environment.
I have put it since in a drawer and it has been waiting for me quietly. In the mean time I bought a Sony Xperia X1 which is an excellent phone. I would still try to fix my trinity, I'd use it exclusively as a GPS if it works.
Any other theories as to why this might happen or what should I do to fix it?

When issue occurs will it power up plugged into charger?
As BundyR stated there is a poor connection somewhere. Also known as a "cold solder joint". The trick will be having device apart but still being able to power it up at the same time and start poking around with a toothpick and a magnifying glass starting with the battery contacts and moving on from there.

SOLVED!!! [Q] Help! Nexus S won't turn on!!! :(

Hi everyone.
Last night I went to bed and as usual I check my Nexus S battery.
It indicated me very low battery, and turn it off.
So far, no problem, i thought, well there isn't enough battery to turn on the phone. I connected the cellphone to the wall charger and went to sleep.
Today i woke up and try it to turn it on, the screens just flashes and nothing happens.... Removed battery, try it again, the same.
Try 100 times that, and there was one time a Warning of Bootloader came up. Don't know what i did different thought, but now i can't get the same result.
Actually now the screen doesn't even flashes when i press the power button.
The battery seems to be charged, i tested with a LED. My wall charger is also working cause it's able to charge my old phone.
And now to get things even worse, as i bought it in asia, i don't have warranty, and the gran finale, Nexus S is not been sold in Brazil due to some regulatory issues, so Samsung said it they can't help me with an imported product.
The Cellphone is brand new, doesn't have not even ONE month of use.
It's not rotted, and it was in the latest android firm.
Does anyone have any idea what can i do????
The phone doesn't respond to anything .

Is it showing full bars when you connect the charger and press the volume button?

i think you tried everything possible, can't see what else you could do. Looks like a hardware issue..
if i were you, i'd claim for warranty, even if you bought in hk, it has warranty, of course you will lose shipping cost, but, it's better than lose the phone! =o]

The thing i found most said is that the phone is bran new! Not a month year old.
And i didn't do anything, not even rotted, dropped, anything!

The problem was that there was a little tiny piece of plastic dirt in the usb male plug in the phone! And that piece was able to make a faulty contact with the charger, the phone battery was dead as hell.
Can you believe that?????
I almost sent my phone across the world in order to use the warranty.
Now I'm back with my cellphone up , happy as hell!
Tnks a lot, and remenber to always clean everything before use more drastic measures.

Wow.... really good news, i always clean contacts before everything, my old desire hd was going in car mode, just because a short in this piece, and when i cleaned with isopropyl alcohol it was magically solved.

Phone won't boot until battery is pulled/re-installed. Why??

For some reason my phone just started having an issue where once it is turned off, even with battery charge remaining, it will not turn back on until i pull the battery and put it back in.
I figured it may have something to do with the custom ROM so I tried loading the backup of my stock ROM and the problem still persists.
Is anyone else having this issue?

There are other few people who have stated the same with them too.
I went to the service center yesterday and they told me its the faulty battery and new battery is on its way... BUT they are blatantly lying..because before using the stock battery i had used TWO chichitec and then also the same problem occurred...so i went back to the stock battery thinking maybe these extended batteries are fake...however after 15 days the same thing happened with stock.
I am using stock ROM with S-off...no hanky panky stuff to let them say that i violated anything.
I think its a hardware issue which they are refusing to accept at present. Maybe when the new battery faults then they would check the same.
Sometimes it is very frustrating and embarrassing also.

Thanks for the reply. I knew I couldn't be the only one with this issue. Luckily I turn my phone off once every couple weeks so it really isn't a huge deal to me. But between this and the touch screen acting up I'm really starting to miss my rock solid MT4G.

Just an update. After switching to the Senseless Extreme rom my phone seems to have fixed itself.

Have you tried flashing back to stock and seeing if the issue is resolved still? Maybe it was a corruption issue.
Although if you like Senseless then just stick with that.

I am on stock but still facing this problem...I doubt this is related to software somehow...Otherwise on pressing the power button the phone would have restarted... I sincerely believe this to be a hardware glitch because the power completely shuts down and the current stops flowing from the battery to the hardware.. For me it happens sometimes in 20 days and sometimes (very recently) happened on two consecutive days.
I have also ordered another SIM (of same carrier) just to rule out that possibility also that my SIM card is old (have been using it for 7 years now)

Hm, keep me posted on what you find out. Mine seems to be just fine for now. But I'll see if the problem returns in a few days.
And, Termic - I am loving the senseless rom. I forgot how much I love pure Gingerbread. I'll be sticking with this one for sure.

You are right, it is a hardware problem, I solved it by buying another battery. Everything is perfect now.
P.S. get a higher mAh battery, I got Anker and I'm very happy with

Buddy have tried Chichitec batteries and then also had the same problem...AND not one but TWO Chichtec batteries... both same result...

Phone keeps turning itself off. Has anyone else experienced this?

I lock my phone and about 10 mins later I go to unlock it and the phone powers up meaning that it has been turned off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the charge of the battery but it keeps doing this. The other week the phone wouldn't respond for about 5 hours I would touch it and the touch screen was completely dead. I locked the phone and then the screen went black and the touch buttons at the bottom lit up and that was it the phone crashed so I needed to restart it and it just wouldn't work. 5 hours later when I woke up it responded and Bare in mind I ran about 5 ruus to get the phone back to stock so it wasn't a software problem. So has anyone else experienced one of these problems. The random shutdown is my issue at the moment. I'm considering returning it for repair because isn't it true that htc have a 2 year warranty in the uk?

Sounds daft but I'd put a piece of folded paper on top of the battery to ensure it has perfect contact and isn't able to move at all.....I have heard of others who have experienced this issue.
I would also see if you could get another battery for a short time and try that just to rule out that it is an issue with the battery.

Doesn't sound daft it's a great Idea. I have blu-tack on the slide off cover at the bottom to keep it from jiggling as one of the plastic clips broke. I will probably test another battery because they aren't exactly expensive. Do you know anything about HTC's warranty int he uk ben_pyett? Thanks for the help

I have heard multiple users that they simply rang HTC up, complained that battery didn't work and got a new one sent out.....so try that....and attempt if possible to hang on to old one, as if it turns out to be device, you get a free battery

Same issue for me, it drove me nuts. Turned out to be a faulty battery when sent off to HTC/Vodafone for repair. They replaced it so I wonder if it's a known issue.

My phone used to shut down randomly and I searched and found out that it is due to the bad design of battery placement in this phone. All I had to do was put a small piece of paper and it has never shutdown till then.

I'm definitely going to try this, I've been getting lots of resets and I'm relieved it's not a rom issue
edit: how many times did you guys fold the paper over?

i had issues with my phone turning off too, had it slightly wet at one point so i took it to a phone repair joint, they replaced a few things charged me and it had the same problems afterwards, a test battery proved it was the bloody battery all along!
the tech there let me know our batteries have a soft edge that when pushed up hard against the battery slot it slightly deforms, seems like a bad design if you look at the battery up close you can see one where the edges get pushed in a bit, (well on mine anyway) the test battery i borrowed didn't have the edges pushed in.

Had this problem too. Paper did the trick.

The only reason this phone was with me was due to its good camera qualities else
This phone couldn't give any better loudness if not accompanied to speakers ....each time while watching any video I need speakers
Well ...this phone made me realise that it's not necessary that good priced phone are necessarily good

Screen burn-in / image retention?

Hello all -- has anyone else been experiencing screen retention? I've had this phone *brand new* , not refurbished or used, or a little but over 3 months now, and it has noticable burn-in from the status bar.
I rarely use this phone outdoors / max brightness, and I was wondering if anyone else experienced this, because I'm disappointed from how 3 months of use can easily show on a brand new phone. It's much more pronounced than my 2 year old Moto G7 power.
Do I have a dud, or something wrong with my screen? I have a protector, a good case, and have kept my device well cared for. I'm considering sending it back to Motorola if i manage to unroot it and lock the bootloader back up.

Usually whenever I flash something / the phone is acting up, so not often at all. Is that the issue?

It's too late now. But every computer & modern cell should be rebooted at least once a day. There is no official uptime contest. Reboots reset everything. Also instead of or in addition to a power off of 10 minutes for a cell cools down the hardware. Should be done from first use. Oh & I don't care if others disagree with me on this I know from many engineers this is the truth.

I don't reboot usually because I'm in the middle of working on something / don't find any need. But weirdly enough, this is the same for any phone I've had, but I've never had burn-in issues this severe so short into a phones lifespan

Ok. All I can do is put the information out there. A reboot takes less than a minute.
