Hi all,
I am getting "rpc:s-3 error retrieving information from server" on every app when i try to download or update. I have tried clearing the data on play store, download manager, and google services and rebooting but it did not fix it. Has anyone found a fix for this?
I am on the stable release of 10.2 CM from Dec 2 and have the latest gapps.
Thanks
Anyone?
Try going Settings>Accounts>Google> Tap your account> Three dots in the upper right (or press menu button) "Remove Account" ... then readd your account .. then clear Play store cache and data and try it

Thanks! That got it! :good:
No need to remove the Google account on this problem. It suffices to:
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All
Google Play Store -> Clear data
Google Service Framework -> Clear data
Reboot
Found at http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/59861/error-retrieving-information-from-server-rpc-s-3
Error retrieving information from server. [RPC: S - 3]
I tried all mentioned above , removed account, added back, cleared data & cache, rebooted but still am getting the same error on my Samsung S3

Please help. Thanks much in advance

Same here. I've had this issue for over 2 months now. Google keeps saying it is a "known issue" for some. I have tried absolutely everything possible. Everything. I get it on my GS4 and my Nexus 7. I can not download anything or update anything. This is becoming very very irritating.

This may sound stupid, but changing my Google password and re-signing in on my phone actually made the error go away.
Hope that helps.

Aww that's unfortunate
Ok, here's another idea, have you recently updated "Google Play Services"? It appears that it has been updated on 12/21/13. Perhaps it has the fix?

Hi, do you still have the problem? I got it but it was solved easily. But, while searching the forums for solutions, I stumbled upon one that you may have not tried yet. It is in this link. Tell me if it works.
huhh,
seems I can't post a link. try pasting this in google and the first result is the page I found:
google_play_error_retrieving_information_from
Good luck!

I have tried that solution also. BUT!, About an hr ago it started notifying me that I had updates. Have not seen that in over 2 months. Opened up the play store, and it has mysteriously started working for me on both my devices! Woohoo! Hopefully Google has figured out what when wrong for users like myself and a lot of others and will start pushing out the sync fixes. :highfive:

go to settings > application > select Google play store and Google play service > clear cache
then turn on the internet .
fixed
I've tried every suggestion out there (including those in this thread) for fixing the RPC:S-3 error and I haven't had any success. All apps install or update successfully except Flipboard, Gmail, Google Play Books and YouTube - they always get the RPC:S-3 error. The only other thing I can remotely think of is the fact that pertinent system apps aren't up to date or their versions aren't fully compatible with each other: Google Play Store 4.4.21, Google Play services 4.0.34 (924341-36) and Google Services Framework 4.3-757479.
Could that be the culprit? If so, how do I fix it? If not, any other ideas?
P.S. - Galaxy S III with Android 4.3
SOLVED!!! Finally! Not sure what the fix was exactly (since I tinkered with just everything in this session) but I think it was removing ALL Google accounts (I had 7 total) and possibly combined with toggling Sync and the clear cache & data trick. Here's everything I did:
Updated Google Play services to 4.1.32 (978161-36)
Updated Play Store to 4.4.22
Turned off Sync
Removed all 7 Google accounts
Cleared cache AND data for Google Play services, Google Play Store and Google Services Framework (I know the Google engineer said not to, but F it!)
Restarted the phone
Cleared cache AND data again for the aforementioned apps/services (I'm paranoid/anal)
Restarted the phone again
Turned Sync back on
Re-added just ONE Google account (my primary one)
Cleared cache and data again (told ya!)
Restarted the phone again
All the apps that were giving me the RPC:S-3 error have successfully updated/installed automatically. What a F'ing experience!
Well, 'til the next RPC:S-3 (or RPC:S-5:AEC-0) fiasco...
This is what i did and it fixed the issue.
Remove google account (all of them)
Un-install updates and cache what not
re-boot device.
Re add the account and don't update or anything yet.
Let your device sit for about 5 mins.
Download a random app from app store( don't update any other app yet)
after it's done downloading different app now you can update your apps
This method worked for me. Try it
Hey everyone,
Title says it all really over the past few days over several devices and different users in my household we have noticed that Google play store isn't working properly, we are receiving errors, connections issues and general problems overall.
I contacted Google who didn't do much in all honesty and they advised me to clear the cache for the app on my phone and clear data on both app and googleplay services, which I have done but since doing so my okay store loads but I get the error message check you connection and try again.
I have reinstalled the app using the apk on here and still the same problem.
I'm not to worried about it as I'm pretty sure the problem lies with Google especially since its happening in several device (using different accounts and same accounts)
Is there a fix for this or is it Google causing the fault as I have searched the net and found people with similar issues. (isitdownrightnow.com)
Many thanks
Azel

Got this one solved for you mate, had the same problem.......... All to do with automatic time and date being out of sync with the play store. Go to time and date settings disable the automatic time zone and automatic time and date. change the date manually to say....the same date but 2013. go back to home, then go back to date and time settings, enable both time zone and time & date auto's, and hey presto........play store's back to normal.
happy days
What do you mean when you say "not working"? Do you get an error message? Does it simply crash/force close?
Did you do something to the devices between the Play Store working and not working? Did you change your internet setup somehow? Did you move to a different country? Did you start worshiping Lord Xenu?
Play Store needs to be a system app. You say you reinstalled it, so I'll assume your devices have root. When you sideload an app it installs as a "user" app. Play Store needs to be a system app. Use whatever app you used to uninstall it to change it to a system app (most root apps that can uninstall system apps have this feature...if what you used doesn't, you can find ones that will, some free). If this isn't the cause of your problem, we'll need more info to help you.

Hello. Since updated to Google Play Services 7.xxx I just realized this.
As screenshot attached, my device shows up as 2 devices. How to remove device at the bottom?
Had already dig in on Google Dashboard, delete here and there, no luck.
Thanks for the help.
Do u have multiple users on this device enabled?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
No. Even guest mode.
Now it getting worse. My OCD senses are tingling...
Here's mine. Not sure what the hell is going on with play services.

Are you perform factory reset or flashing a ROM within these range?

Yes but I've always chosen to continue from a backup in the setup screen. I figured it would keep the data the same. All these duplicates might be why Google Fit hasn't worked for weeks for me.

For me 8 March is from upgraded to 5.1 and 12 March is from factory reset. That's it.
It seems that even make additional copies.
From my theory is every factory reset we make new DNS host name for our device. Maybe that's the culprit.

I don't think it's a biggie. It happens to me quite often, usually when I flash a new or updated ROM. External services will detect that as a different device when I connect.
My guess would be every time you flash and sign in with google it creates a new android ID. Thus google thinks it's a new device linked to the same account. I have location history turned off so I'm not seeing this behavior. One thing to try is Titanium. It has a feature that allows you to restore android ID from a backup. Menu/manage android ID. Create a new one and see if it adds another device to location history. If it does that's the source of the issue. Then you just have to figure out how to flash the ROM and gapps and restore a previous ID before signing in.
As much as I have been flashing lately and looking at my list it seems that the date the duplicates started was when play services 7.0 released. Otherwise everyone on XDA would have a massive list from clean flashing ROMs. It's almost like the same issue with the set up screen. If you choose set up as new device too much sometimes the servers stop updating your back up.
This is pretty annoying, I have close to 20 entries... I am flashaholic.. .
Will try out the TiBu with update zip and see if it resolves the issues.
Google need to fix this.
Hello,
Did Google fix this issue on nexus device ? Because i'm having it on my Note 3 (SM-N9005)...

Apparently no. Still have >1 month old entries and still not deleted.
nO..........but I really really really wish there was a way to fix this. I really really really wish there was a one button kill all to wipe ALL history of EVERYTHING from the server to start fresh. Currently you can wipe backups, location history, and Google Fit data but there is no way to remove these device entries.
same here but don't know what it's disadvantages to us
deleting all data in /data/data/com.google.android.gms causes this too... I have 4 devices in the list now... the problem is that they are stored in the google account and not on the phone.
Google should allow to delete old entries. Also this messes up things in GMS.
I am trying to contact google for this but it's hard.
Also, deleting that directory seems to fix the problem with google play service eating the battery.
Got the same problem with you guys, and still haven't found the solution yet.
Please update here if there's someone who knows to resolve this issue..
Hi guys,
i downloaded the playstation app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scee.psxandroid) on my lg g2 and it keeps crashing right after i start it. it works on a note 3 that i have for testing here.

Thanks this worked for me. I don't use text to speech at all so I guess I can't disable it without breaking the PS app?

Hello,
Please help! I have a HTC U11+ with Android 9. For some reason I cannot open the settings app or by tapping the gear icon. I have performed a factory reset by using the power + up during boot but it's not made a difference.
I have noticed if I uninstall Google or updates it starts working again. I don't know if this is an issue with a recent update but it's causing some big issues. Can anyone offer any advice how to resolve the issue or some alternative?
Kindest regards,
Nick
Hi Nick, I have the exact same issue on HTC U12+
I tried booting in safe mode, but also that didn't make a difference.
Uninstalling google also fixes the issue for me, I think I'll report it to google. It's highly doubtful we can get any support from HTC. I just want to hang in there till the pixel 8 is released, didn't think HTC would throw us this curveball
edit: looks like the google app is getting a lot of 1 star reviews recently. For some people the app itself stopped working completely. Interesting. Perhaps we can also just install a "good" version by downloading a verified APK. Then you can disable individual update for the google app. Not ideal though, but a worst case scenario fix maybe. At least we won't be stuck with the 2019-ish version of google that way
I, too, had the same issues where the Settings app (and alll related functions) would crash. After about an hour of freaking out (I was at Disneyland when I discovered this and had no access to tools or a computer), I figured out it was the stupid Google app that caused the issue... just like what was already reported above.
After trial and error, the last "good" version of the Google app that still worked is 14.15.25.28.arm64. You can grab this from APK Mirror.
Thank you for your replies.
Sounds like it's an issue with the latest Google app update which I think is 14.17. Installed 14.15 as per your suggestion and that seems to work fine. Thanks again.
This mproblem now seems to have resolved itself, not sure if Google or htc fixed it but works fine now without needing to uninstall Google Updates
Thanks for the reply. Yes, mines also been resolved since the Google app version is now 14.17.34.28. Don't think HTC are doing any kind of support/updates nowadays
