Just how much faster is the new SD845 compared to the previous SD835?
I've been testing my S8+ and Note 8 (both with the SD835) and comparing it to my new S9+ with the SD845.
Here are the results...

Well one thing seems very evident already to me even after only a day, the stanby battery drain is greatly improved compared to my note 8. Guess they were right when they said the SD845 was far less power hungry at idle. Now it still not iPhone level stanby time but for a Sammy it's damned impressive so far.

@iunlock, if you don't mind how many minutes (and seconds) does your S9+ take to complete the CPU and compute tests on Geekbench 4?

I have a note 8. Do u notice any different in scrolling smoothness. I really dont care about apps opening a milli second faster.

Yes indeed. In fact, I did a quick little test with standby against my S8+ with the same amount of app usage on both and the improvement is clearly noticeable.
I've attached a pic.

It takes a few minutes. I've never timed it, but it is normal to take a good several minutes if that's what you were curoius about.

I have my Note 8 all jazzed up, locked down with all animations off so it is super quick. To an average person, one would not really be able to tell, but to the trained eye, the S9+ will seem just a tad bit snappier. It's not much difference though. (ie...You know those slow mo's that they show in races of first and second place crossing the finish line? It's close )

Hehe "What's new high score mean? Is that good? Did I break it?" hahaha. This came as quite a surprise today!

Sure! Here's what I have so far.
Wonder what tweaks I can perform to improve the scores even more. Im using an AT&T S9+. Haven't done anything to it yet really. A few basic tweaks. Id like to see how much improvement we'd see after debloating and further optimization.

Nice and fast just like mine.

Granted I've only been using my phone as a media decide so far, this is pretty impressive. Feels like it last twice as long as my note 8 ever did.

So far I'm not impressed with the battery life. Tbh my expectations were very low. I don't care much for SOT because I have wireless chargers at work and at home so quick to ups are easy. What I care about is sleep. My phone lost 6% in 7 hours overnight which isn't the end of the world but my pixel loses 2 or 3% in the same time frame. I thought the Snapdragon 845 was more energy efficient...

Hmm that's odd, because I've tested my S9+ multiple times next to my S8+ and it only lost 1% over night, whereas the S8+ lost 4%.
Have you debloated your phone from all the leaches? Try something like Hibernation manager, Greenify, and BK Package Disabler to clean up your system a bit.
Any leaking ship will sink so if you have apps that are running in the background (process) then there's your culprit.
One thing is for sure. The new SD845 is much more efficient than the SD835.
I have both the S8+ and the Note 8, that I use daily...

The difference is honestly astounding to me. My note 8 wouldve been dead 3-5x over compared to the kind of use I'm getting out of my s9+. I just spent the last 5 hours playing some dumb game on my phone and I'm only down to 60%. My note 8 wouldve been done about 3 hours in and I'd still be charging it up at this point. Super impressed with the battery on this beast

Very odd. I'm enjoying a 2-3% power drop over a 6-8 hour window. Think one night it was close to 4% but at this point splitting hairs.
So use to my old phones requiring me to charge overnight because they'd loose so much during that time with push notifications, apps updating, etc. This I can feel confident that I'm not going to kill it if I don't charge it overnight and thanks to quick charge its amazing that I can get a few hours use in no time.

For those getting bad battery life on the S9+, you've 'gotta' fix the leaks...

Having fanatic battery life here. Phones not even getting warm. 1.5 hours in PUGB on max ingame settings. Plus an extra 2 hours screen time. When playing it was roughly 10-12% per 20-25min match.

Poor performance after rooting my Note 5

Iv'e been looking for some info about it anywhere but I couldn't find it so I'm asking here.
I recently got myself a note 5 (T mobile) and I immediately rooted it like I did with all my previous devices.
I used the "stock modified kernel" that someone in this forum provided and it all went smooth.
I then ran a Antutu Benchmark test and I was really surprised to find out that my Note is really lacking behind with a score of 58,478. I ran this test like 4-5 times and my highest was around 69K. Note 5 is listed 3rd place with 83,944.
on the test itself I had some weird lugs on the "garden" test and I could see its probably not at it's best.
any suggestions?
Why are you worried about a benchmark test and switch to skyhigh 4.5

Watch your phone performance over the next days before your 14 day window. My first phone went 100% to 72% overnight when I first picked it up, and the cpu temp was always in the 140+ range. I took it back on day 13, knox tripped but stock. No issues since. they did't ask any questions, I said it was bad and they got me a new one.
This is my battery life so far. How is it compared to yours?
Eventually I got 13 hours and 10 minutes before it shut off and SOT of around 3:30 hours

So I guess it's not that bad because I'm also connected to my huawei watch so bluetooth is always on. Actually it became much better after a week with the phone I guess that the "battery optimization" had something to do with it as well.

If your watch is continuously connected to the phone, then no I don't believe your screen on time is abnormal
After disabling samsung push services my battery is so much better and I get more SOT even with my huawei watch connected via Bluetooth all day long. Amazing.
The only poor performance I'm experiencing after rooting and putting TEKHD'S awesome ROM on my N5, has NOTHING to with the phone. My wife, however, is PISSED! I just can't put the phone down!

Can I expect lag-free and long battery life on S8+?

I'm trying to choose between samsung s8+ and sony xz premium. Samsung is offering a very good discount, and the larger screen is a plus for me over xzp. But I had very very terrible experience with s5: response could take like 10+ seconds, and the battery life sucked. These two are the biggest concerns for me looking at s8+. I know phones generally performs well when they are out-of-box, and I'd like to hear from owners who have been using s8+ for a while: how is the experience regarding response time and battery life?
I've had my S8+ for a while now, and the batterylife is beyond what I have ever tried on any other phone.. I have not yet been able to drain it on a single day.. Always above 45-50% when I end the day.. with 3-4 hours of SOT.
About the lag some people talk about, I will say (Though never owned a pixel) it's probably not AS smooth as the pixel with stock android, but I have not experienced any lag. I'm also using Package Disable to disable about 104 packages, which helps quite a bit as well I usually always have above 1GB of RAM free.
I hope this helped a little
Stock.. havnt disabled anything with alot of apps installed (restored from my s7edge) and so far doesn't lag even with QHD screen resolution.

How about battery life?
S8+ using QHD+, Medium brightness with location, wifi, and data always on, and I've been able to easily hit 7+ hours of screen on time (SOT) with heavy usage such as lots of YouTube videos , light gaming for hours (clash Royale and clash of clans), Instagram, Reddit, and browsing the internet. Even on other days where I'm doing super super intensive usage like Bluetooth to car and listening to music, and gps navigation at the same time along with lots of 4k video recordings I can easily last through the day. I'm not even scared to leave the house with only 60% if it's the start of the day since it'll last me that long. Quick charge is a cherry on top too. Screen is gorgeous and I keep the always on display enabled .
My s5 never lagged

Depends really.. QHD and spending most of the day on 4G I get around 4.5 hrs. FHD and Wi-Fi gets around 5.5 hrs.
Ive only had the phone for a week and I am on vacation. So it's too soon to judge as I am always taking pictures and uploading on social media... talking on VOIP etc. I can easily last 10 hrs or so with loads on pictures and social media and phone calls and YouTube (not a gamer). So I think normal work/home days would def get me around 5 hrs with QHD.

Battery on the regular Note 10

I know its too early to tell yet, but id be really interested to hear how the battery is fairing up, I have the S10+ atm and really like the smaller Notes form factor, seems the perfect size for me. Ive compared my phone to the Note and it does feel like a downgrade in a few area's, but yeh really interested in the battery really. Thanks.

Battery life is mediocre at most, maybe 1 full day with medium use, nothing exceptional.
Yea I bought it. Was expecting a little more from it battery. I knew this would be an issue going into it but did t realize it would be so bare minimum.
I purchased the regular Note 10. I'm only on day 3. I'm happy with the battery life. The 1st day I used it I got between 5.5-6 hours SOT and that was mostly WiFi. I charged it and took it off the charger at 2am to see how it drained overnight. I woke up and it was at 95% after being idle for 7 hours. I went to work with the phone and my stats from yesterday was 4.5 SOT with almost 24 hours being off the charger.
I think I use the phone pretty regular. Most of my user is from YouTube and Netflix. With yesterday's use I watched the 1st half of the Jets vs Saints.
So far I think its a little better then Pixel 3. Thanks to my recent increased use and Pixel 3 I started freaking out and plugging in charger all the time, need to go back to normal use where you unplug in the morning and plug back in before bedtime.
Here are some screen shots of my user of the regular Note 10. I'm at almost 16 hours off the charger. It's 9:20pm here. The battery life is better than my S10. I'm going on vacation tomorrow, depending how the photos are for me trip will determine if this phone is a keeper. So far I'm happy.
Thanks for everyone's replies, I'll wait a bit until I bite the bullet and thats if I do. I'm happy with the s10+ battery, obviously it won't be as good as that but I'll wait to hear more info on it. Cheers.

Here is a comparison with mixed usage on both Notes https://youtu.be/IrX0rp_Bnbw
Iam feeling the same way. I have pulled the trigger on the plus model mainly because i got it at a good price, and for the bigger battery plus i kinda feel that it's the real note 10 and the smaller version just seems like a downgrade.
Iam having some regrets now though after handling both in person. I just much prefer the size of the smaller note 10 and iam telling myself that the battery should be good enough to last a full day which is all we need really. Expandable storage isn't an issue as 256gb is more then enough for most users (certainly for me)
Iam now tempted to return my plus model when it arrives even though deep down i love that on paper it's technically the superior device. I wish the smaller note had a bigger battery, quad HD screen and the depth sensing camera.
If they had of just made one model somewhere in the middle in terms of size with maybe a 6.5 screen it would have been perfect but oh well.
It's ironic too that most ppl love the idea of a bigger screen but how many of us actually take advantage of that and make use of it. Most of us use our phones to communicate with each other so why do we even need bigger screens? Nice to look at but that's kinda it or am i wrong?

Ehh media consumption? Many people play games too.
Well I couldn't wait any longer and have the regular Note 10 coming tomorrow. I still have my S10+. I just hope the battery doesn't spoil it for me. With my S10+ I never worry about the battery because its never let me down. But I love the size of the Note 10. Like alot of people have said its just a shame they had to strip it down so much compared to the Note 10 plus. Anyway I have 14 days to compare. I'm really excited to see how i get on, hope its not a let down. If it is then I'll wait on the S11 or even the next huawei phone. I had the Huawei Mate 20 pro just before the S10+ and it was great phone. I think I just like to try new things.

I don't have an image to post but I have gotten similar SOT and standby battery life as you have. I've been able to nearly squeeze 6.5 hours of SOT and got over 24 hours of standby time. I would get better if I didn't keep locations services on full blast all the time plus I have a few survey apps running at all times which also use location/data services so that dings my battery. If you aren't using those things it'll likely be even better. I am totally fine with this battery life.

Wow that's great. I keep Bluetooth active for my gear s3 but not location. What kind of settings are you using?
I have an exynos standard note and like the S10/S10+ before it I would describe battery as acceptable but IMO below par. What bugs me is that it drops at quite a steady rate just sitting there doing nothing, goes from 100 to 99% within a few minutes of coming off charge and continues on from there.
Overall on my Note 10 exynos, the battery is really good. You have to put apps you dont want running in the background to sleep.
AOD I set to tap to show + aodNotify app to wake it up with incoming notifications + edge lighting. Power savings mode when at 50%. Mostly on wifi, no gaming and some light youtube usage.

Long Term Battery Exynos Models?

Just wondering to see what everyones long term battery usage has been like on the exynos model since launch. Has it improved with updates and One UI 3?

To me it has, I remember the day I got the phone I didn't even get more than 3 hours of SoT. But now I'm getting about 6 hours in a 15 hour usage, with 20 to 30% left. 120hz on all the time, no battery saver.

I mean... Honestly samsung has never been great when it comes to stand by drain (I've had every note since the Note 8 including the Snapdragon versions) but to me, when I sleep let's say 8 hours it drains about 4 or 5 percent, so I guess that's not that bad.
The N20U is the first Exynos phone I've had, and although it's not astonishing, I'd say it's not as bad as some people say.

Question Battery life

Please use this thread to post everything about the Battery live of our S22 ultras
Pretty bad the first day (drained 40% in 12 hours of not doing anything).
This is currently day 3 of me using it. The battery learning or whatever is done and it is noticeably better (but not perfect). Although the fact that on low brightness/ambient light you are stuck with 120Hz kinda kills the battery in the evening.
My Phone runs actually 2Days and 1hour without Charge. I have 7% remaining and 6h 5 Minutes SOT.
I Use energysaver mode(always on+bluetooth+wlan is non stop on) and all apps in deepsleep that i dont need
For me it´s good so far^^

When it comes to battery drain while the phone is not doing anything (just sitting with the screen off and all apps closed) it is worse than my almost 4 years old S9+...
While using it it is hard to tell, but sometimes it seems to just eat through the battery.

Think the "day one patch" will fix it a bit. Many people have stutter issues seems like driver Problems with the AMD gpu. it will release this Week.

I would be happy to have your results. Look at my S22 ultra (Exynos 12/256) Battery drain ! Just from reading my mails and using telegram and a little bit of whatsapp
Day one battery life is pretty awful! Hope it improves..
. I take it off at 100% and I watch the battery tick down almost immediately. Just general use dropped 16% in the first hour. Hope it gets better than this.
Q: Whats the name of the Samsung optimizer app that.one is supposed to run after an update?

Wtf thats **** mate :/ hope we will See an Update on the official Release:/
Day three. This has the worst battery life of any device I have used in years. For example, Dropped 5% in first 16 minutes of use today. I used smart switch. Maybe that did it? Or is 5G?
I have 2 full days in now, and the battery life is good. S22U 512K unlocked SD version, no power savers, adaptive brightness. I have fast charge turned off and using Anker wireless charger, recharge in about 3-4 hrs.
Feb 23rd : 8h 43m SOT, 8h 22m screen off, 36% remaining at end
Feb 24th : 8h 48m SOT, 7h 51m screen off, 46% remaining at end
I'm on day 5. S22 Ultra with 12/256. It is technically getting better but I do not like how quickly it drains. I been finishing about 5-6 hours SOT max but with battery almost completely dead. Just from unplugging it and driving to work checking notifications, it goes down to 97%. Never seen a battery drain that quickly. Maybe I am just spoiled from the iPhone battery. Also running everything max QHD, 120Hz, auto brightness and Snapdragon version.
One additional comment, I wonder if the battery drain could be due to the GPU and people's different usage patterns. I don't watch a lot of video or play games and my battery seems OK. That and the reports of the phone getting really hot when playing games and the refresh and screen glitches makes me wonder if people reporting higher drain are using the GPU more.
