I'm waiting from from 6-7 Months now for a new Rom for Honor 8 and I'm not getting any Information about it. There Are Roms coming out for Redmi note 4 and Lower devices Like Pixel Experience, Lineage15.1. I mean is Redmi Note 4 is better than Honor 8?
THANKS
I think they're waiting Oreo for Treble Support.
We are all waiting for Oreo to drop on may, this will give us the opportunity to develop a Treble ROM based on the treble ROM AOSP by phuson. This ROM can be used as a base and it we'll be developed around the rom to make it perfect
Huawei/Honor's software support is pretty awful. I'm using a FRD-L04 and still using the October security update.
Can devs here make anything for the Honor 8 without Huawei releasing code first? I was pretty sure the answer is 'no'?

The only thing you can do is either wait or buy a new phone (what huawei and honor are actually hoping for).
I figured as much. They make really nice hardware (the design, actual SoC, camera, etc), but won't have a repeat customer with the dreadful software support I've received.

Honor 8's SoC is not like other phone with snapdragon SoC that can be ported to latest custom roms.
I think that with Oreo to arrive between April - June (Q2 2018) things will change, expecially if it will come (as it should) with full Treble support. In that case for all the developer would be easier to port any oreo-treble based custom rom to honor 8 or build a new one with less trouble and better compatibility. However, i take the opportunity here to thank all the developer who made custom roms until now for not abandoning this device and trying to fix all the bugs (aaaah that kirin....). Thank you all!

I'm wondering what is up with the development scene on this phone. I don't want to be one of those guys who is always being impatient about when a rom is coming out or whatever but just curious.
Have the sources been released for new kernels and ROMS but no one is working on this phone or are we still waiting for a proper source for devs to work on?
tbh the stock firmware, rooted with the material theme is pretty killer. im sure in time we will get aosp based roms. its worth the buy. if your a crack flasher the only devices i can recommend is a nexus 5x or 6p.

You are waiting for a proper developer, not for a proper source.
If you checked older Huawei devices forums on xda you'll find it going the same way with almost same developers, I have honor 7 and most of what we got is emui roms with few tweaks and kangvip settings. I think this is the best we will get for a while.
You should check how other devices development is going because I don't think honor 8 will be any different.

Well if a proper developer shows up, I'm willing to provide support (non-monetary)
With my limited knowledge I don't feel confident starting a project like this.
I guess EMUI rom with a few tweaks is what I would start with. Better than nothing.
Some progress made on P9, hope it come to Honor 8 soon.

Nice! Seems promising. Would this do anything for the Honor 8? The P9 and Honor 8 aren't exactly very different in terms of SoC, the 955 is basically an overclocked 950.

I'm pretty sure the HiSilicon Kirin 950 is the problem as most developers work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon
MediaTek phone's get the same treatment, very little development aside from modified stock roms

Yea! I will definitely take stock rooted, than no root at all. Patience...it will come!
Tbh this the first device I actually don't miss custom Roms. I mean I wouldn't mind a custom kernel and ambient display but it's almost perfect as in. Not a fan of cm but I'd be for a pure Nexus type from. The axon 7 has the same issues with virtually no development. This phone smokes that one in terms of fluidity out of the box.
The question is what development. Usually it means improvements.
But Huawei is just doing a fine job on improving other device´s ROM´s and H8 will not be an exception.
This phone is like a few months old. It takes more or less a year to have a solid development.

If it has not already been done is protest to Huawei & Honor to release all materials for the Android community to develop their devices. If this has already been done we need a public link where we all can sign up and address such matters. It has been already done. We made a formal request to a Honor employee (because of the Honor Hub) and we just received instructions for compiling the kernel. Don't expect them to release anything, this isn't the first time, it happens with all of their phones.

Then the probability of Honor 8 getting AOSP will be low.
Have anyone saw if we're getting update for the androod O?
The only sure thing is "updates for 2 years" we just dont know how many there will be.
I think we will be lucky if we see 7.1.X updates or EMUI 5.1 ...
After all if they give you Android 8 on Honor 8, how will they convince you to buy a new mobile in 1.5-2 years ? Its a market thing...
Same happened with OneplusX , you like it? you want more? buy a new model.
I do not believe we get the update on Android O.
Samsung keep their promise and gave android 5.1 for my old Galaxy s4.
If I couldn't receive 2 years update, I will erase the Huawei from list and Me, nor some one near me will never buy Huawei again. It's simple like that. We call it "trust". And miss using trust is a "one time" mistake.
I think we could receive it.
I personally don't it. We went five months without a simple security update. A full OS overhaul seems unlikely to me.

Not entirely irrelevant. Nougat brought native replies within notifications, that wasn't possible on Marshmallow (without Xposed). If Huawei's customizations bring the same or comparable features to an older version, I can live with that, but they don't always.

Agreed, though their target market in China prefers devices that behave similarly to iOS. Thankfully EMUI5 / Nougat is much closer to AOSP than EMUI4 / Marshmallow.

I wish it will happen in EMUI 6
Personally i hope but i think not. They don't even want to update to 7.1. Think about this, they made P8 (flagship version not Lite one) with a good hardware to support android 7.0 and even 7.1 and guess what? They killed it in favor of P8 lite 2017 that comes with Nougat and the hardware is just slightly different. The P8 just receives security patch updates (at least this phone receive it, we not), nothing more. I agree with those who say is a marketing thing. Talking about our phone, i think it's capable to get 7.1 and even O but probably it will die after the "Big" update with some EMUI 5.1 features on our EMUI 5.0. If we're lucky we'll get by time some security patch updates but nothing more. I wish they can keep their promises about 2 year updates, but actually i'm pretty diffident. Hope they can show me that i'm wrong
I think Honor 8 will receive another major update.
The fact they won't update Honor 7 (Yes, compatibility issues, but still...) disappointed lots of buyers. Making the same mistake with Honor 8 would destroy the reliability of the brand. I hope they're not so stupid.

There are lots of interesting alt roms for the Mate 9. Has anyone developed (or be willing to develop) a custom rom for thr Pro? Pretty please!
The poor pro is being left behind... I realise this is largely because of limited geographic release but it's a great phone which deserves some attention. I'm not sure how ewsy/difficult it is to adapt the mate 9 custom roms for the Mate 9 pro... Or perhaps there are some Pro owner developers out there.
FYI I'm currently running LON-L29C636B225. Latest version appears to be B229.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I missed something on this that has been posted already.

No. I have asked on threads if a mate 9 rom would work on mate 9 pro and generally got a response of no or 'not sure'. Given that the correct region also seems to be important to make these roms work, I really didn't want to risk flashing a mate 9 image on my mate 9 pro in case of bricking. The twrp I flashed is also different from the standard mate 9 version.
I saw that KangVip build a rom for Mate9/pro...

Isn't it just a different screen size/resolution? That shouldn't be a problem software size. I would imagine.

you should know that huawei phones will never have many if any custom roms. the few that have custom roms like the honor 8/P9 are loosing interest from the few devs that are trying to build roms. oreo might fix that but like i said, devs are loosing interest fast.
im waiting to see the pixel 2 and the LG v30. those will have great hardware and will have a huge custom rom support. never again huawei!

Based on your response, why did YOU yourself even bother purchasing a Huawei device when you knew that rom development was going to lack?
I already knew for months before purchasing mine that ROM development was going to be small or basically non existent and I've been a ROM flasher for many many years, this is the first device I've ever own that I didn't have to root or even flash a ROM, seems you're pretty much unsatisfied because you can't flash any custom ROMs compared to other devices

my only huawei devices have been the mate 7 which i bought brand new and a gifted bartered honor 5x and honor 8. i got rid 2 of them as soon as i could. the honor 5x is the only one i still have due to it having a snapdragon soc and a big custom rom selection.
had someone warned me about the mate 7 i would have not bought it but lesson learned. as i have stated many times, huawei hardware is great but their software is complete ****! thankfully huawei is becoming less popular on xda due to them going back on their word about providing major updates for 2 years.
to each their own i guess. you can stick with your huawei devices but most will never take hauwei serious for good reasons. LG v30 FTW!!!

Little bit of V30 fanboyism there?
EMUI 5.0 has never been a hiccup for me it's infact the best UI I have experienced so far alot better than 4.0.
Sucks to be you, should've done the research if you knew what you were getting yourself into but you learned it the hard way, but each to their own.
I rather have a device that rarely anyone knows about VS a phone or a brand that everyone knows, have fun with your V30, cuz I'm pretty content where I'm at, no need to go batsh** over what ROM has marginally better battery life or what kernel provided better performance or signal strength with modem files. TBH at least some credibility is due for them for actually polishing up EMUI, if they didn't care this brand wouldn't get far ?

Great - I didn't know about this one! The only challenge for me is the Chinese forum. I know I can google transalte but it is still a bit of a struggle - especiall;y to post questions etc.
I was hoping that some of the custom versions for the Mate 9 could easily be adapted for the Pro. I guess the Pro is a mainly Chinese audience. Depsite these ROMs being based on EMUI, I was pleased of late to see that more of them are coming out. Just not for the pro!
I also notice that the kernel source has been released. Although those experimenting are still experiencing some issues with it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/kernel-source-t3639912
But hopefully this means renewed iinterest from developes for an ASOP ROM for both mate 9 and the Pro!
Have we got any hope? Why don't they just say no?
Want updates? Get a Google Pixel, Sony XZ or OnePlus. Either factory or 3rd party, there's always some ROM.
As a rule of thumb Chinese (except OnePlus and probably some other) brands take your money and that's the end of story.
Honor 8 will not get Oreo update. Support won't tell you anything about their update policy.
Because they are not sure if they are gonna release Oreo for the Honor 8 or not.
I remember on Honor 6x forums, there is a post saying Honor 6x would get Oreo. If that's true, I don't see why Honor 8 cannot... Maybe HUAWEI hasn't decided whether or not they would build Oreo for more Honor devices.
Common, how naive can someone be? Who believes Huawei/Honor would disclose the update path before just before doing it? It would upset current ownsers.
We just need to look at how the brands I mentioned (plus HMD/Nokia) plan and communicate the updates: they publicly and officially communicate it months before doing it. No ifs or buts. Because it's a strong point in their favour. Not the case of Huawei.
It's clear as water but one might choose to believe in a different thing. Like pigs can fly.
Edit: this is nuts! Oneplus 2 will not receive official Oreo. Honor 7 neither (what a joke) and they were both lunched one month (2015) after the other. OP2 have Lineage R15 (Oreo) working. H7 have :laugh::laugh:
Snapdragon is the way to go.

I don't know the point of hiding everything. Say that you are testing it and we'll know soon, say that there is no hope, but just say something.
The support people know as much as you do on updates. They aren't told so they can't tell anyone else. That way, they aren't involved in any early release tests that they aren't supposed to provide support for.
What's the point of having inhouse processors if you don't optimise and update the device.? I know 2 years worth of updates is too much to ask, but it's been less than an year, and this device already feels abandoned. At the very least be like Xiaomi, update your own EMUI for most phones, if android updates are so big of an ask
"HMD Global has announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1, making it the first Nokia smartphone to get a stable build of the latest version of Android."
https://m.gsmarena.com/nokia_8_1_android_10_update-news-39549.php
Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?
Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.
its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.

Nothing official, but I think q1/2020 would be a good guess.
Last year Mi A1 got the Android 9 update on the 23rd of december.
My guess is Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10 in late december.
