[FIRMWARE / Update][Stock] Fire HD 8 - 7th Gen - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 General

Hello everyone,
The purpose of this thread is to provide a list of stock/original firmware files on a single place for the Amazon Fire HD 8 - 7th Generation.
Here's the list:

NOTE:
I have successfully downgraded from 5.6.0.1 to 5.6.0.0. I have not tried yet downgrading from 5.6.0.0 to any lower candidate/firmware.

Can you by any chance get the firmware files for 5.6.1.0?

The U.S. page has not been updated; look at the Japanese page: Link.

did you have any luck downgrading further than 5.6.0.0?

Is there a page like this for the 5th and 6th Gen HD 8?

If anybody downgraded from a version to another version please let us know if it was successful or not. That might help to create a matrix where we can check from where to where we can downgrade without brick.

Oh my gosh! you are an absolute god! Thank you for the firmware files!

Does anyone have a clue as to why my 10.1" 7th gen fire tab states its installed 5.3.6.4 os, then when i tap "learn more" it states my tab is instslled with 5.6.3.0??
Anyone shed some light on this if you know please.
I have made Amazon aware of this, even there latest update file states v. 5.6.2.0? Confused.com!?

Because someone at Amazon goofed and transposed a couple of numbers in the version field that happens to be read by the "about" page.
All their tablets say that.
And, it's such a small issue that it likely won't get fixed before the next update.
Sent from my Galaxy S8 using XDA Labs

Its such a small issue, that Amazon are investigating it atm. I'm still none the wiser as to which fw i actually have installed!!!
I even tried to update using adb but nothing happened?
So i will wait for Amazon to get back to me with their findings.
Will be interesting to find out what they say.
Not heard of any miss wording errors for the fw though, very odd??

There were several post about it here since it was released back last November. And, I've seen several posts over in Amazon's own forum. My wife and my son both have a 7th gen HD 8. Both received the same mis-numbered update.
I figured, 2 months later, they are just going to wait and release the next update. It doesn't break anything otherwise.

So I downloaded 5.6.0.1 firmware file and flashed it via stock recovery using adb sideload. Everything worked until I pressed "Reboot" and now my device will NOT BOOT! It won't turn on, it won't vibrate, and I cannot access recovery. I think it may be bricked. People keep telling me to access download mode and reflash the stock rom because they believe my preloader is corrupted. How can I do this?

Previous FireOS build? Which device/generation? Vibration excludes Fire 7/HD8 as both lack tactile feedback. If you can not access stock recovery the device is toast. One can not simply flash a ROM on most Amazon devices with a locked bootloader.

It's not possible to flash anything to Amazon devices by SPFT, despite them being MediaTek. SPFT uses a DA (Download Agent) to communicate with devices, and Amazon tablets don't accept the standard DA, they need a special DA signed by Amazon. BTW, good luck with the development of Amazon Fire Toolbox, and I really hope that you have a spare Fire device, because you will not be able to recover your tablet. The only method is changing the Hardmod Root method by a bit, soldering into the eMMC and replacing the preloader and LK, and even that is not yet covered by a guide or anything.

For the ASUS MeMoPad 8 (K015) ME581CL I was able to root it successfully on the 4.4.2-based firmware by using the RootZenPhone 1.4.6.8r
[23pin.logdown. com/posts/230216-root-rootzenfone-14r
I had a pretty sweet rooted 4.4.2 setup on the ME581CL (K015) until I mistakenly decided to try for Lollipop
After updating to the latest firmware (Lollipop 5.0.1) I lost root, subsequent tries to root the device did not work, so I hope that someone can help
develop another method., ASUS link here: asus.com/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_8_ME581CL/HelpDesk_Download
Note: I actually got stuck in the welcome/setup screen and had to boot into recovery and use "fastboot -w" to wipe data cache and partition
so that it wasn't bricked.

Note: there is some progress in getting downgrade working here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/root-downgrade-asus-me581cl-t3075678
I have not tested this method however. I am somewhat content with stock 5.0.1 for now and a decent non-root firewall
to block the ASUS crapware that ships with the factory Android, though I'd much prefer to have downgraded and had my root back on 4.4.2

I've got the ME581CL with the 5.0 OS from ASUS. Sure like to be able to get rid of some of the junk they've placed on this tablet.

It doesn't let you get rid of everything, but you can install "No Root Firewall" and block everything by default - it uses a loopback device to bind all your traffic through it so you don't need root to block/allow traffic from apps.
To update to 5.0.1 I copied the firmware here: https://www.asus.com/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_8_ME581CL/HelpDesk_Download/ into the root directory of the tablet and restarted it, that picked it up and applied it.

[GUIDE] Sideloading Nougat on your G4+, from any firmware version. (e.g MPJ24.139-48)

NO PC REQUIRED AT ALL FOR THIS TUTORIAL!
READ ME: I am not responsible for bricked/damaged devices from following this procedure. It should be safe, if done right on the supported models. This does not void your warranty, but it is soak test firmware, meaning that it is beta software, and might have bugs/issues. I haven't noticed any myself, however.
Alright, I am aware that there are already videos describing how to install Nougat, but this is a (fairly) easy to follow text tutorial.
Step 1: Make sure your running the latest Marshmallow.
Before you can install the Nougat update, you have to make sure that you are running the latest Marshmallow firmware for your device. If your phone is running the MPJ24.139-63 firmware, you are good to go. Anything lower, and you will have to update your firmware, either manually, or through the OTA checker.
UPDATE: Download this file and flash it in recovery the same way that you install Nougat, to update to the latest Marshmallow firmware, if you are on anything lower than MPJ24.139-63: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&confirm=mkUs&id=0BzpjDRtfDv8PdER0cml3VzRHZTA
Step 2: Download the Nougat OTA File.
Follow this link to download the Nougat OTA file: http://downloadmirror.co/Uq5/Blur_Version.24.31.64.athene.retail.en.US.zip
Step 3: Boot into Recovery.
You have to boot into recovery to sideload this OTA file. First, power off the device completely. When it is completely powered down, hold the Volume Down button, and then the power button, not letting go of either button, until an Android appears, with a bunch of text. You are now in Fastboot Mode. Press the Volume Down button until you see Recovery Mode, then hit the power button.
Step 4: Install.
Once you are in Recovery, you may see an Android logo again, with the text "No Command" below it. What you need to do here is hold the power button, and whilst holding the power button, press Volume Up, to access the menu. It is easy from here. You need to select the option to install update from SD Card, using the Volume buttons for navigation, and Power to select. From there, you find where you downloaded the BLUR_VERSION.24.31.64.ATHENE.RETAIL.EN.US.ZIP file, and select it. It will start installing the official Nougat OTA. Give it some time, upwards of 15 minutes to install. Once it has complete, simply select the Reboot system now option, and if all went well, you should see the "Android is upgrading" screen, and now you are running official Nougat soak test on your G4.
NOTES - The install may hang on the "Patching system image after verification." message. Give it around 5-10 minutes, it will eventually pass that stage.
I can't guarantee that this method will work on all G4 variants. I can confirm it works on a UK Retail XT1622, however.
This may make it harder to install the stable official Nougat when that releases worldwide, I am not sure yet if it affects the upgrade path to the stable firmware.
KNOWN ISSUES
I actually have not found any issues with this firmware yet, it appears VERY stable for a soak test build. If you have come across any, or need help, comment below.
COMPATIBLE MODELS
These models have said to have had success with this update.
XT1643 - Moto G4 Plus Dual-SIM (India)
XT1640 - Moto G4 Plus Dual-SIM (Brazil)
XT1642 - Moto G4 Plus
XT1622 - Moto G4
XT1626 - Moto G4 (India)
@LoopingCreeper is your 1622 a single sim? I have a 1622 single sim from tesco and I haven't received the 6.0.1 ota to 139-63 probably cause I'm not on the retgb software channel. Did you get the ota pushed to your phone ?
when i try to apply update from SD, m getting error 'internal and extenal memory not found'..i tried mounting SD card but i am still geting this error. how to resolve this error?
Is there any other way to install this update on my device.
I am from Brazil and am currently using 139-50 version of firmware...
I cant update to 139-63 with the method describe, when trying to update the zip file to MM 63 i get a message saying that expected version should be 139-23.
Anyway to upgrade to 139-63 from 139-50? No ota available.

Actually, according to motorola, the first part is not true. Flashing an ota zip file will void your warranty. That is the official motorola answer. Especially for unreleased software.
You may not like it or agree, but they have stated this many times in the past
I prefer to wait for the final version.
I cannot upgrade to the latest MM. It asks me for the firmware version 139-23.4 and I'm on 23.2 (XT1641, retca). is there another package to upgrade? Thanks.
Any loss of data?

Okay. I can now confirm that it works on XT1644 [US]. I'll upload screenshots later.
All the screenshots I took when my G4 Plus got into Nougat from side loading. So far, no bugs and it's extremely smooth. No lag or performance issues so far.
EDIT: I have more screenshots. If you want em, tell me and I'll post it. These are the last screenshots you'll see of the Stock Rom from me, I'm going to Resurrection Remix.

Still, none of these have the October patchlist which fixes KRACK.

2)Looking at the updater script, this OTA and the non-Amazon OTA for NPJ25.93-14.7 requires NPJ25.93-14.5.
Code:
Package expects build thumbprint of 7.0/NPJ25.93-14.7/7:user/release-keys or 7.0/NPJ25.93-14.5/5:user/release-keys
As you've flashed NPJS25.93-14-8 (the retail, non US June 2017 update), this takes you off the update path for US devices. I do not know if you can flash NPJ25.93-14.5 (which has the June 2017 patch as well) and update via OTA without issue. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298984458 for NPJ25.93-14.5, https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817906626617945295 for NPJ25.93-14.7 (both non Amazon), or NPJ25.93-14.5 for Amazon devices: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634798183
Either way, you are correct this OTA doesn't have the Krack patch, for official stock updates you'd have to wait for the 06 November 2017 or December 2017 security patch levels. I recall custom ROMs such as Resurrection Remix and Lineage OS have the Krack patches in place.

Wow - that was INCREDIBLY helpful, and thank you very much. Not only that, you provided the links to 14.5 and 14.7 so I didn't even have to search for them. Again, thank you!!!
Ehud
Do you know if the ATHENE_AMZ_NPJ25.93-14.7 version is out? I only see the NPJ25.93-14.7 for non Amazon. I really wish I could switch the from AMZ update channel to the Retail. It has to be possible with the bootloader unlocked to flash a retail version. I have searched, but no one has been able to change the update channel.
I guess if I want to have a fresh install, I would have to flash the 14.5 Amazon version and do the OTA for the 14.7.

Just curious...have you been able to stop the ads? I'm also on a bootloader unlocked XT1625 Amazon G4 and have version NPJ.93-14.5. I'm rooted, but regardless, the lockscreen ads continue despite clearing and disabling com.amazon.phoenix and xom.amazon.widgets.

Yes I have. I didn't disable, but deleted the Phoenix.
I don't have any ads.

I used a file manager and looked for system apps and deleted the Phoenix one only. I still have the widget app. I used solid explorer, but es File Explorer works also.
I am waiting for the ATHENE_AMZ_NPJ25.93-14.7 myself. Is it available yet?
Bricked my phone when i installed the retail version of NPJ25.93-14.7 in a bootloader locked amazon version and the phone wont pass of the recovery menu saying an unauthorized version is installed. Searched the web for a while now and only ATHENE_AMZ_NPJ25.93-14.5 is available and i can not downgrade.
Any help will be appreciated

Fire HD 8 (2017) - Downgrade to 5.4.0.0 from 5.6.0.0

This is the link to download Fire OS 5.4.0.0 for Fire HD 8 7th generation; I finally found it in an Amazon webpage for UK,
Fire OS 5.4.0.0 Direct Download Link
If some brave soul who lives near an Amazon office wants to test it, please go ahead and ADB sideload it, and let us know.
And don't forget to uninstall OTA because you can do so in 5.4.0.0!
Good Luck!
EDIT: And this is the software update page.
Nah
I have the HD 8, but I am already waiting for a refund, and my warranty only covers 3 devices If anyone could test this... kudos to you.
EDIT: After disabling OTA, is there any way to check the OS version? I used the tool to disable OTA and now I can't even open the system updates menu. Pretty sure it deleted OTA .
Don't try. You get hard bricked device.
Some users reported an hard-brick downgrading to 5.4.0.0, but I tried the same. I can confirm, you cannot downgrade Fire 8 HD 7th. You get hard bricked device.
I tried downgrade from 5.4.0.1 and no errors are reported after sideload ROM. I tried reboot and the device didn't start again.
I hope there's eventually a way to remove some bloatware from this device, it's actually a pretty good little tablet
I have a Fire HD 10 5th Gen, and was able to downgrade from 5.6.0.0 to 5.3.2.1, which allowed me to block OTA updates and remove the bloatware.

Fire HD10 5th Gen ? Why not trying to root it as discussed here (even though it says HD10 7th Gen) :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/rooted-fire-hd-10-7th-generation-t3718629
I have a 2017 HD 8 that I got with 5.4.0.0, and it updated to 5.6.0.0. I don't see any reason to downgrade, as I don't gain anything, but I also don't want to downgrade because it seems moving from anything 5.4.0.1 and above to anything below 5.4.0.1 will brick it. Seems they updated the bootloader in 5.4.0.1 on the HD 8.
I have future OTA disabled, hoping we can get an exploit in 5.6.0.0 like the HD 10 did, but fingers crossed.

Can you share your 5.3.2.1 firmware for HD 10 5th Gen? I want to downgrade mine too.
so is there any benefit for me to stay at the 5.4.0.1. that my HD8 is at.. I haven't turned it on since the day i received it. The day i got it i had turned it on without allowing any connection to wifi and i was able to check the version it was shipped with. Then i turned it right off as I've been waiting to see if any exploits arrive! My apologies if this falls under a different discussion! Thank you guys for any and all input!

Thanks! Is this the de-facto latest version as of today? Can we fastboot flash these directly from any other patch level or should we go in sequence? (for instance, I am on PP029.114-16..)

It is the latest at least the latest the LMSA app picks up. You can fastboot flash this over any version that is older. If you ever flash downgrade your device is bricked. During flashing just omit the step to clear userdata unless you're factory resetting.
Well I decided to try fastboot flashing this from PP029.114-16 and now I am getting constant restarts after the Motorola image appears.
Trying to fix this...
I uninstalled Magisk beforehand and did a userdata wipe at the same time when I did this.

Performed the fastboot sequence again and it is working
Does anyone know if this will work with the Amz variant? I have an unlocked bootloader, fastboot flashed the RETUS PPO29.114-16, and have Magisk installed.
Edit: corrected errors

I received the OTA last week but had to flash manually since the bootloader is unlocked.

I got it Tuesday May 21st.
I have a screenshot of the build and baseband info, but the app keeps throwing a bad request error when I attach it.
PPOS29.114-16-5-2
XT1962-1
US Retail
Unlocked from Best Buy.
Using Verizon sim.
My g7 is bootloader unlocked and rooted with Magisk. Is there a way to use the Rescue feature on the LMSA tool to download the firmware updates? When I connect my g7 in fastboot mode to my PC running LMSA, LMSA pops a dialog box "device is not supported". My g7 is XT1962-1 that I purchased through Google Fi.
My previous mobile phone is a Nexus 6 and when it was supported by Google the firmware was posted on the Nexus website on a monthly basis. I'm struggling with the process for the g7 firmware images.
So, I am on a replacement phone now. I took the latest OTA and this got me to PPOS29.114-16-5-2.
So, it doesn't look like PPO29.114-16-7-2 is released for OTA yet? I'm not gonna flash anything that doesn't pop up on my OTA going forward..

Firmware is here. Directions are here.
LMSA won't help you on a rooted device plus all it does are the same directions I provided. Might as well do it yourself.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, there seems to be some confusion. Let me try again.
1. The repository at mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/river/official does not appear to me as an authentic Motorola repository. Why would Motorola have a Paypal.me link at the top of the page for Li Huixia in Shanghai?
2. You previously provided the firmware I'm currently using
BUILD REQUEST INFO:
SW Version: river-user 9 PPOS29.114-16-7-2 42129 release-keysM632_12.52.01.86R
MBM Version: MBM-2.1-river_retail-b508f3a-190402
Modem Version: M632_12.52.01.86R
FSG Version: FSG-8953-21.62
Build Fingerprint: motorola/river/river:9/PPOS29.114-16-7-2/42129:user/release-keys
CQATest App Version: 6.0.4
Did you use the LMSA tool to download this zip file? If so, do you have a device that is completely stock (i.e. bootloader locked, no root)? If you didn't use LMSA to get the 114-16-7-2 firmware, where did you get it? It's not on the lolinet repository site in the river/official/RETAIL directory.
3. Coming from a Nexus 6 phone, I used this site ( https://developers.google.com/android/images ). I've been trying to find the equivalent site for Motorola firmware images that is an authentic Motorola repository.
I'm not trying to be impolite or argumentative, but details matter when dealing with software and hardware.
Thanks.

I've used the LMSA app to download the firmware [for all 29.114-16-X] and also the link I posted. I ran sha256/512 hashes on both zip files from each source. They were identical.
