I've instaled Handcet SMS and uninstalled default SMS application, is there a way to change Handcent SMS name to, let's say MSG and ico to default one?

ive just installed handcent sms (could be any particular messages app) and i want to use handcent instead of the optimus 3d's original sms app. i turned off notifications of the original sms app, however, the quick launch bar will still show a "1" if a new sms comes in, AND it also starts the original sms app.
i would like to have the quick launch bar sms symbol start the handcent sms app instead of the original app. is there any way to do that?

Do a backup then delete the messaging apk from the system/app folder. Can't remember what it's called though. it'll most likely have a messaging icon.
then set handcent as the default and restart your phone. worked on my last android phone so should work on the O3D
that did not work. after renaming the messaing apk from systemapp folder, the home launcher crasher. afterwards the messaging symbol in the quick starter was gone, however, no way it got replaced by handcent (tried rebooting, setting as standard).
now i renamed the messaging apk to its original name again but still the quick starter place for messages is empty.
i think this means there is a config file for the quick starter somewhere, that says which apk at which position. after the home screen detected that some apk was missing, it removed it from that config file. we need to look for that file.
try to freeze the messanging apk with AntTek app manager, don't uninstall...just freeze it
do that in Handcent SMS
setting -> application setting
1 - Root your phone if its not rooted
2 - Download Root Uninstaller
3 - Backup Messaging aka mms.apk and Messaging Widget aka messagewidget.apk ( both are in green as the message icon )
4 - Unintall both of them ....
